Reviews of The Bugle Hamble
K. D.
We visited for lunch. We both ordered The Cod and chips which where fantastic as was the service the little jars of ketchup are a really nice touch I don't usually like mushy peas but their home made version where really nice as was the homemade tatar sauce. A very friendly and efficient front of house. I would recommend to anyone.

Went for a birthday lunch, had booked but there were a few empty tables. Only a small outdoor seating area though so would recommend booking. Serving a limited menu at the moment, but lots of lovely options. Food was excellent quality. We shared the arancini and crab croquettes to start. I had the minute steak for main, was actually thicker than I’d have expected and still nice and pink in middle, served with yummy garlic butter. My mum had a salad bowl with lots of fresh flavours and my husband enjoyed his dish and chips. Recommend the elderflower gin cocktail too!

Went with my friend on a Monday lunchtime. To start with there were not many people. We ordered drinks and then we placed our food order for 2 courses. We had ordered chicken meal each. It took an hour for the first course to arrive. We had asked 3 different times to tell us why it was late. To eventually be told that the chicken had fallen on the floor so they had to cook another one. We wouldn't have minded if they told us this in the first place food to arrive, which we ordered 2 course. I must admit the food was nice. We had parked for 2 hours. There was no real apologies or offer of a discount. My friend asked if we could at least have the drinks taken off for the inconvenience. At which point the waiter snatched the bill out of her hand and screwed it up. So no tip was deserved. When we left we had only 10 minutes to spare. So it wasn't as relaxing as it could have been. Won't be going there in a rush.

We had a really delicious meal here last Saturday evening, June 11th 2022. The staff were very attentive and paid attention to detail, and all our requests. The food was really tasty and beautifully cooked, our juicy top- class steaks were cooked to perfection. We enjoyed a great bottle of house red that paired well with them and we would definitely return and recommend. We had not had such a good experience at another restaurant in the same group but the Bugle staff were aware of this and really made ammends. Thank you.
G. P.
Great food. Great choice of beers. Service was great although a little slow due staff shortage. This didn't detract from a great fathers day lunch. Thanks to everyone there.
J. V.
Fantastic food, great price and super service. Two oldies and daughters enjoyed a good three hours eating and drinking. Thanks for a super afternoon.
L. S.
Absolutely beautiful evening celebrating our sons birthday at the Captains Table - a gorgeously decorated room upstairs - the food was 10/10 and the service from Scott was faultless - nothing was too much trouble and we felt so looked after 🥰 thank you so much 🥰 friendly and professional and fabulous
J. R.
Good food, good quality beer and very friendly and helpful staff. What's not to like. This pub was recommended by a local and we were not disapointed.
L. M.
Great food, very dog friendly
P. B.
Went out for a drive and found this place. Good size food portions and tasty. Helpful staff.
M. N.
We treated ourselves to our first meal out at The Bugle after lockdown 2.0 and enjoyed 3 courses where every dish was stunning: from the white soy cured trout and celeriac starters and mains of seared duck breast and sea bream. Puddings of a warm chocolate brownie and passionfruit pannacotta topped off the evening. Made even better with warm service from the front of house team.
Thank you to The Bugle team for a wonderful anniversary treat!
G. C.
Nice old pub with nice outside seating for a river view
R. H.
Lovely setting, good food & great hosts
H. S.
Cozy pub with an open fire in a very scenic location close to the water. Great drinks list and locally sourced food. Part of the Ideal Collection group so get a loyalty card if you eat/drink at any of them regularly - it's definitely worth it.
J. a. N. D. C.
It had a really nice atmosphere and the staff were really pleasant. We didn't eat there but will certainly return soon
A. J.
Lovely dog friendly pub and fantastic food. We'd been on a long walk by the sea with our Jack Russell and stopped here looking for something hot and tasty. Some of the best fish and chips I've had, perfect portion size and wonderful mushy peas! Will definitely come back.
P. L.
Lovely lunch, great old fashionable pub sat in Hamble. Well cooked and lovely service.
C. S.
My third visit here, the first being a group dinner in the private dining room upstairs. Very friendly service at all times. Historic location, good food and premium beers. Guests being served outside meant that the doors to the front bar were banging shut almost incessantly.
H. L.
The cooking here is first class and they also do interesting dishes such as mushroom and beetroot burgers that you would swear were meat. My last 12oz sirloin was a superb piece of meat, cooked to perfection and accompanied by deep fried onions and excellent crispy thick chips. One of the best steaks I have eaten. Later, the sponge pudding with Lyle’s Golden Syrup is nostalgic bliss. Excellent service too and comfortable seating on leather in the restaurant.
A. C.
Only stopped in for a drink and some crisps while waiting for some rain to pass but great service from friendly staff
C. S.
The food is amazing, the staff are great and make sure you’re looked after. Lovely setting too. What’s not to like
B.
Fantastic food, very friendly staff. Well worth a visit if you are in Hamble-le-Rice for anything. Cracking menu
C.
Had a reservation here with a large group. It was a great time there and the staff was very talkative. I ordered the classic fish and chips and it was amazing. I also had a great time looking at the small shops and sights around the docks next door.
D. S.
Nice pint, great service, dog friendly, chatty staff, nice & relaxed.
R. W.
Great food. Friendly staff. Super location. Always creating new culinary delights.
A. A.
Lovely atmosphere....good service..helpful staff..decent pub grub..will certainly return..
K. A. J.
My husband, friend and I came for a Sunday roast, and it has to have been the best roast dinner we have had out, ever! We can't stop talking about it and are going to have to come back and have another one sharpish. The staff were so friendly and attentive, and also made our dogs super welcome by providing a doggy bowl of water. 5 stars are so well deserved.
B. W.
We enjoyed a very enjoyable dinner on 6th Dec. The food, atmosphere and service were excellent. Would recommend to anyone to book a table at the Bugle. Will definitely return, when next in the area.
D. D.
We went for dinner
Fish and chips ok
Roast lamb.. Not the best..
A. B.
Lovely locally sourced food, expensive but good quality.
A. G.
A lot smaller than I last remember, apparently the rest was sold off to build new apartments.
In a great location in Hamble village, right near the river, a wooden beamed ceiling giving it that cosy feeling.
They have a car park but when it’s busy you can park in the centre of the village for a fee & walk down the quaint village lane to the pub.
There is seating inside & outside.
We had food here but the menu was limited at the time as only certain items were available.
Usual pub prices, which isn’t exactly cheap, the burger I had was tasty but the the chips were rather hard & crispy.
Still, I’d return, probably a lot better during the summer months.
R. S.
Recently refurbished well, nice pub with good atmosphere. Menu good as well, particularly the small plates
T. A.
Wonderful food and great staff, the best in the area.
A. W.
Good food and service.
Best lamb I have had in a long while.
R. C.
We had a very good dinner here on the weekend, sitting outside on the terrace. We had the Lentil Dhal and Crispy Chicken Asian Salad, both well cooked and light.
Service from Lilly was friendly and efficient.
Overall a great evening
P. H.
We popped 'in' (still outside only) on a windy Sunday afternoon for some hot drinks. The mocha I ordered was very nice, but must have taken at least 25 minutes to arrive, by which time I had four minutes to drink it before I had to leave!
The outside seating area was comfortable and the heating was very welcome!
B. S.
Had a lovely Sunday roast. The staff were super friendly and accommodated to do another roast option as they only had beef on their limited menu.
Very tasty, but quite pricey for what you got.
C. O.
great food, young waiters/waitresses were happy and attentive and hard working, thoroughly enjoyed our night and they thoroughly deserved their tip!! will be back soon!🍾🍺🍸🍷🥂
M. E.
Great food and Fab service, we were in the small part of the restaurant next to the loudest group of people you could imagine which did kind of put a downer on the evening but we were forewarned so can't blame the establishment for that
Will return
A. L.
Great food, great beer and a nice atmosphere
D. W.
Really nice pub with seating outside and heated for winter nights great beer great food highly recommend and outside you dont get nicer views of harbour in Hamble with a cold pint
S. W.
Had the most delicious lunch today, sea bream with Jersey pots, samphire, crab sauce to die for. My son had the mussels with chorizo excellent and mum had fish and chips, very fresh. Definitely will be back x
E. P.
A welcoming log fire greeted us on a chilly Wednesday lunchtime. The fish and chips were excellent as we're the staff.
S. H.
Staff good, helpful, pleasant. Friends thought the 'Full English Breakfast' was nice, husband thought it ok. My confit chicken beignets were unusual, very nice flavour, slightly dry. Herbed chips a bit salty but good. Price excellent for 4 people (including bottle of water). I'd go again because there is plenty of variety on the menu.
C. D.
Earlier today we called in at the Bugle with no reservation, but fortunately for us someone had cancelled so we had their table. Beth the waitress looked after us with drinks and food, we felt very comfortable eating outside. The outside heaters were also on which took the chill off, the tables were situated at a safe distance from one another which made everything safe. I would definitely recommend the bugle to all family and friends.
S. P.
We turned up on the of chance for a pint on a busy Sunday afternoon. They found room for us and were really helpfull and cheerfull.
£30 round of drinks amd made to feel as welcome as a table spending 10x that much on the full menu. Thankyou.
S.
Food was delicious and really nice atmosphere and location.
E. C.
Nice food (we went for a Sunday lunch), and friendly staff. Extra brownie points for letting me breastfeed my baby inside and for her to have a snooze in a quiet corner away from all the hustle. thank you!
C. B.
Nice little pub staff very welcoming polite and attentive. food was good although the portions were a little small. I did like the fact you had to pay for condiments 75 pence for two tomato sauce and a mayo. But on the whole nice atmosphere although a little expensive.
L. M.
A little on the cold side inside but the huge loaded sandwiches were lovely. Located on a lovely village road, a stone's throw from the water. Nice, hearty food, even a vegan option. All in all a great place. 👍
S.
Lovely old pub with heated tables outside. Great use of old kegs as urinals.
B. S.
Outstanding gluten free lemon drizzle cake: the first time I had it, I had to double check that it was actually gluten free because it was impossible to tell (not something that usually is difficult to distinguish)!
S. T.
Lovely looking pub with great food and well kept beer. Friendly too and waterside view from terrace.
G. K.
Amy and Dan looked after us from start to finish. Attentive, understanding and funny. Lovely service. Such a lovely setting, thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommended it.
E. W.
Not welcoming or friendly, only wanted drinks but felt obliged to order food, not a great choice ordered a sandwich, more as an obligation.
perhaps it's better at weekends
D. S.
Great pub with delicious food. Was down for a sailing course and had our first evening meal here. A perfect start to a perfect week. Burger and Steak was good but the plate we all had dinner envy over was the ham and eggs! Beautiful hand carver ham and 2 perfect runny fried eggs.
A. C.
Didn't eat here. Just popped in for a quick drink. Friendly, welcoming staff and good spot to people watch on the outside terrace.
C. B.
Will be back again so lovely and staff were very professional
L. D.
The pub was lovely and the staff friendly but my friends and I were very disappointed by the portion size when we ordered lunch. A round of pork belly with two croquettes was priced at £17. There were no vegetables and the food took around 5 minutes to eat. It was very tasty but disappointingly poor value for money.
K. D.
Beautiful location in picturesque lane from village centre to the shoreline.
Called in without a reservation but were seated outdoors on the patio.
All lockdown procedures were followed without unnecessary formality.
Very friendly and attentive staff & drinks and food arrived promptly.
Hoisin Duck and fish & chips were nicely presented and extremely tasty.
Average prices.
Recommended
M. P.
Was a nice little pub will go again staff did come to the table a little bit too much asking if we wanted anything else 4 times in 30 minutes but overall was nice
J. G.
Lovely pub/restaurant. Friendly service very good food, reasonable prices. Will definitely be back
M. V.
Average service drinks a little overpriced.
M. N.
The friendliest welcome imaginable on a very busy evening. Nothing was too much trouble for them and the dinner was excellent. So good to see that some places haven't forgotten excellent customer service in the present circumstances. Thank you!!!
N. W.
The food is amazing here and the staff are always friendly. Cannot recommend this place enough!
J. H.
Shipyards American Pale Ale on tap. What more is there to say!?
D. B.
A good pub with very good food which is close to the river.
s. t.
An enjoyable meal. Amazing fresh sea bream , beautifully cooked.
The building is interesting.
The location quaint and historic.
Worth a visit.
S. N.
Superb food, small menu but food was amazing... staff were attentive & very proactive.... best place to eat in Hamble😋👌👍🏼
M. H.
One of the best pubs I know, delicious food, great atmosphere
J. M.
Bit pricey but location is great
B. N.
Another place I have been going for over 15 years. I feel the place has changed for the better in the last 5 or 6 years. I live in Hamble, but am not a 'yachtie', and sometimes many years ago there were alot of 'yatchies' that would look down there nose at you here (even though they were outsiders!), but now this has changed. That being said, the staff have always been friendly and welcoming, the food has always been top notch and plentiful. The place has a real Hamble feel to it, and it just a lovely place to be, rain or shine, inside and out. A real gem in Hamble.
E. D.
Perfect portions and lovely service
D. M.
Food was nice but a very limited menu, and when we asked if we could have a drink outside we where told no!
P. B.
We only had snack but it was beautifully cooked and the waitress was so attentive. Well worth a visit.
M. T.
We visited the area for a christning just before Christmas. We were staying at the Compass B&B across the road from the Bugle so visited here a little bit by default. Luckily it was a good find. The food was very nice and the pub/ restaurant had a really nice atmosphere, and the staff were very friendly and helpful and they were happy to let our dogs join us as well.
m. p.
Great pub, great people.
V. S.
Excellent service and food . Staff so accommodating and varied menu .
K. B.
Cosy pub situated just down the road from the hamble yacht clubs. Good selection of beer and the food menu looked delicious, would have eaten there if we weren't full already. Plenty of outdoor seating with heaters, was warm even in the cooling autumn air!
A. M.
Good dinner on a crowded Friday evening. Very friendly service. Recommended.
N. H.
Quaint pub just off the waterfront in Hamble. No car parking available, but there is a public car park in the village square, and another on the waterfront, both of which are probably busy in the summer. There is a short but excellent menu of good quality. The choice of lagers is a bit unusual, but OK. The staff are friendly, and dogs are welcome.
e. H.
A beautiful little pub in Hamble-le-Rice near Southampton in Hampshire. A casual atmosphere and usually full of locals. Three guest real ales/craft beers. We went for dinner and the food was great. Upscale dining but nothing crazy or especially imaginative. Steak, fish of the day, etc. All prepared fresh. Restaurant rather than pub food. Table service and very good service at that. They also do very good tapas. And reasonable prices. It was £30 a head for 4 people including our drinks and 2 courses.
D. K.
The crew at the Bugle are super considerate and really doing a great job through this confusing time. The food was absolutely wonderful (please, try the burger!), and it's just lovely sitting so close to the river.
S. D.
As a seasonal regular to the Bugle I've always enjoyed the food but this weekends was up another notch. I highly recommend it for a social get together enjoyed with high quality dinning.
L. N.
Busy, good food, friendly service, close to the water.
A shame one girl didn't really know what to do but she was well covered by other staff.
Food was sent quickly and good quality.
Toilets are upstairs and in need of modernisation.
M. M.
Cosy place and food quality was good but was very disappointed in my Sunday roast dinner. Very small portion and not a great variety of veg. Crackling was soft and chewy. No one else in the place tells me that it's not that popular. Sadly my spot across the road had sold out of roast dinner.
R. T.
Great food, attentive service, well kept ale.
C. S.
Very good meal, great service and reasonably priced. Well organised for social distancing and we had a very pleasant outside table overlooking the street.
M. S.
'Had a lovely evening here recently with 6 friends. Very imaginative menu. Excellent food. (I had sole in lobster sauce, delicious! Desserts (e.g. Rhubarb and Blackberry crumble and custard / Pannacotta and blueberries) also superb - portions just right and beautifully presented. Excellent service - friendly and efficient, despite us being tucked away upstairs in private dining room. Ideal venue for our Book Club. Manager charming. Will definitely return!
A. E.
An atmospheric little pub with great black and white sailing photographs and a good location on the edge of the little river village of Hamble-le-Rice. Went there for dinner and enjoyed tasty good quality food from the specials board (bream with risotto and lamb shank). Largely attentive service, even on a Friday evening.
S. H.
Lovely staff, really good food- chef makes an effort with specials and his menu. Some basic errors with young inexperienced staff- to be expected though. Nice and cosy, with a good atmosphere. Will keep coming back for sure.
B. B.
Lovely place in the beautiful old High Street right next to the Hamble River . Great pub and restaraunt .
L. S.
Fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food. 😊👏
T. A.
Good local village pub. Nice food with good presentation. Well worth a visit. N.B Short 6-7 min stroll from waterfront car park which charges by the hour. There's a Toilet facility at car park area too.
W. C.
Nice atmosphere, nice food with friendly staff. A place to go back to.
A. S.
Great location. Annoyingly the waitress rushed us into ordering food before we were ready because the kitchen was closing. What she forgot to tell us was that it would be opening again in an hour!
J. M.
Amazing experience visiting, lovely and knowledgeable staff. A lovely venue.
M. M.
Best pub in Hamble. Guaranteed a great evening with good food and a nice view.
A. L.
Nice beer, good service and a pleasant atmosphere.

S. A.
Just had coffee, staff friendly and polite. Warm and inviting pub. Food looked very nice being served to customers.
J. T.
Not a massive menu but lovely staff and good food
A. G. U.
Great place, amazing hosts. Thank you for hosting us.
R. W.
Decent food at reasonable prices. Lovely location in hamble. The afternoon we went they were short staffed and busy, this did lead to some delays but they were polite and apologetic. We visited on the one lovely day between Christmas and New year so not surprised that it was busy.
M. G.
Very busy (packed) when we visited but they still found us a table after a short wait. Food was fine but maybe a tad price for what was offered. A good selection of drinks and, at least when we were there, a good atmosphere.
J. G.
Very good fish and chips good customer service poor choice of puds coffee needs a decent machine!
I. E.
Good system, works well post Covid. Simple and easy. :)
A. E.
Great food and great service. Overall really nice place.
C. B.
Fantastic staff, even under Covid restrictions they did all they could to make our visit great. Food and house ale were perfect.

One of my favourite pubs around. Stunning cosy feel with open exposed beams and real fires burning away. Great food and amazing staff. Got aspalls on tap too :-)
S. F.
Lovely food in a well run pub with friendly staff. Located in a popular Riverside hamlet so it can get busy but I keep coming back.
L. N.

N. B.
We had a lovely sunday visit. The sun was out We were welcomed by locals and staff. Quick friendly service, the roast beef was amazing. Thankyou x
J. B.
Nice food. A bit expensive though & disappointing that they charge more for a pint of shandy than they do for a pint of beer. Bit of a rip off for the "responsible drinker".
C. R.
Lovely food and great service. Did not have to wait long for our food. Dog friendly as well.
r. p.
Great pub in an old traditional sense with well kept real ale and much more. Good food selection.

Great pub and staff. Always a favourite. Better for food than drinking due to bar layout.
I. G.
Food varies a bit depending on who's working but lovely old pub, part of a chain but retained an individual charm, we always visit when in Gamble.
