Reviews of The Haywain
J.
Enjoyed our trip out to the Haywain Pizza & Carvery the atmosphere was friendly, service was very clear and well maintained. Well managed.
Worth a thought if you are looking for a good meal and the pudding menu was good as well - pictured cookie dough with mallows and a touch of seret syrup
E. S.
We haven’t been here for some time because of Covid and other factors. The pizzas are new so we tried them (2 for 1 Mondays and Thursdays) and we’re very impressed, they’re the best I’ve had for years, including some in Italy (I had the spicy chicken one with stuffed edge). The staff were very pleasant too so this could be a regular event now - excellent value!
s. d.
Met some good friends today and went to haywain. We all had carvery which was served by a lovely lady chef . Meat potatoes and vegetables very tasty and plentiful. Service was excellent by all staff
Good value for money.100%visit again.

Hi, I am posting this on behalf of Ivan and Irene. They were served by Carolina when they went and would just like to say that she is always polite and attentive, and very good at making floater coffees. They really enjoy coming and eating here so thank you!!
K. R.
Visiting daughter, ate here 3 times in 2 days breakfast and evening meals all excellent kids and adults.
Staff very pleasant and accommodating to all our needs.
Will definitely return.
G. R.
Came for father's Day all you can eat breakfast. Staff were lovely, food was ok, would've liked mushrooms and scrambled eggs as an option and the fried bread was so hard I couldn't eat it, it would be good to knock out your enemies though 😉🤣.
K. C.
Love the pizzas, chicken burger was good too but my favourite is the roast, it's delicious and tastes homemade and i haven't had to be a slave to the kitchen to eat it! Hats off to the chefs and Rebecca, she's a star, everytime I've been she's friendly, happy and always smiling. Thoroughly recommend that you pay them a visit
J. L.
Hadn't been to the haywain for a few years due to a few rude staff, but that seems to have completely changed for the better these days. Our server Carolina was very efficient at ensuring our experience went smoothly and provided great customer care to myself and my family. I'd like to personally highlight Carolina for her great energy and ability to create a warm, welcome and positive environment no matter the situation. If this is the new haywain standard then myself and others will definitely be returning, it's much better than when we visited a few years prior. Five stars, and thankyou again to Carolina for taking great care of us and changing our views on the haywain for the better.
C. G.
Fab serve Yr self brekkie..love going here..Nice friendly staff too..
Also the carvery is fab too.
C. C.
Booked a last minute table here for 9 on a bank holiday. Good food (we ordered a good selection from carvery, pizzas to pub classics). Great service - staff were very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. BlueLightCard holders are offered a 10% discount which was an added bonus. Will return ☺️
T. C.
Good quality food at an excellent price. Friendly staff...we were served by Rebecca, who was friendly and efficient. Would highly recommend a visit!
R. T. (. W.
It was OK, though I thought the site was a little shabby and the quality of the carvery food could have been better. There's a decent sized car park. Disabled access was OK too.
a. H.
Been here twice and both times have to say amazing, the staff and management are on the ball very polite and good service, the food is fab,I've not tried there carvery but looks good and even better they were dog friendly
E. N.
We come here nearly every Sunday, it is always amazing! great food. lovely staff and a lovely atmosphere!
K. R.
Good breakfast food for the price, quite clean and pleasant enough staff. Sometimes could do better to make sure food is always available so no waiting
M. C.
I can highly recommend the haywain, comfortable settings, lovely carvery meat was lovely and tender lots of vegetable choices at a really good price, will be going back there soon and the staff cheerful and friendly.
C. E.
Excellent experience every time we go there (for breakfast). The all you can each option is of good quality and the staff are friendly.
S. F.
Really amazing service by Carolina and George, loved the food and how nice and attentive everyone was, really recommend going there and Carolina makes amazing hot chocolate. I'm definitely coming back
S.
Went in at 12 noon and had a freshly cooked and good value carvery along with attentive service from the staff. Will go back soon!
C. L.
Use often and never been disappointed. Staff always helpful and friendly, food good and can't beat prices .
G. M.
Good value no frills Carvery on a Sunday. Good selection of meats but we arrived towards the end of the day (early evening around 7:30) and they were beginning to run out of some meat and had no gammon. Other than that a well priced offering.
D. S.
The best carvery around. Nothing it too much work for the team. The chef (I think Ryan was his name) is an absolute credit to the kitchen team. We’ve booked to come again already. Thanks guys!
J. W.
Had a lovely carvery today, the service was great very welcoming and polite, excellent value for money
s. w.
The food was five stars, good value, hot and freshly cooked, they were also on top of the carvery, not leaving it too long before bringing fresh stuff out, staff were happy and there seemed to be alot of regulars there having lunch so that was a good sign, dropped a star because the communal areas could be cleaner and are in need of a spruce up, the toilet is horrid and even if it was bleached clean it would still feel dirty and the carpet has had it which actually spoils things a bit, a bit of money spent on these areas and it would have got 5 star, because the food was so good though and the atmosphere really nice I will definitely be going back Xx
C. S.
Good atmosphere, attentive staff with a fair variety of food. However coffee could be hotter and mushrooms were not included in the price. Would go again.
P. L.
Really pleasant roast dinner. Not all meats available but had gammon and turkey. Lovely veg. Very good value.
M. D.
Fish & Chips were good. Asked for vinegar and ketchup. Nearly finished meal and got up to ask again, was told she was training a new girl. Did bring it eventually. I think she is the one needing training.
P. C.
Really nice food, staff where friendly and accommodating. Could find no fault, if I had to was stood in the entrance waiting to be server for a bit not not an issue
D. C.
We had a good evening here, enjoyed a nice starter and main meal, and a lovely desert. Maybe needed one more staff member as not always one around to ask question or order drinks.
C. B.
Fantastic food, super staff and a great experience. Would recommend! 🙂 Most recent deals from our last visit (today) attached.
T. G.
Excellent food very nice pub. Staff were very friendly & helpful. The young lady who served us seemed more than happy to make sure we had everything we needed. Will definitely go again.
G. G.
Booked table & asked for "quiet area." Was allocated bar area which was indeed quiet on being seated. While we were choosing carvery, staff then sat a couple right next to us with about 6inches separation & while there was plenty of other empty tables around. Hardly quiet & no tip that day.
M. S.
Lovely food, served timely and hot. Pleasant staff. We will return!
M. R.
Usual run of the mill chain pub, went for a breakfast and a carvery, staff were welcoming but had to wait a while for the carvery.
M. H.
Absolutely delicious Carvery. A lovely selection of roasted meats, fantastic tasting roast potatoes and their cauliflower cheese and gravy was perfect. Only complaint is you have to pay extra for a pig in blanket with a Yorkshire pudding. However, very well decorated inside, has a small outdoor play area for kids and all you can eat ice cream was great too. Staff were helpful, friendly and apologetic when they forgot to get a high chair. With the sma negatives it was still 5 out of 5 stars.
N. T.
- superb help yourself buffet breakfast with extremely cheerful and friendly staff in attendance…
- first great visit of many I am sure …
N. J.
I used to visit here a lot as a place to meet my team in my last job. Was good to be back. The breakfast was yummy - especially the waffle!!! The staff were really cheery and welcoming. It's such a handy place to get to from Eastleigh. And it's really reasonably priced. I nice place for brekkie and a catch up with a friend.
l.
The quality of the food and service were amazing. The employees are also so kind
D. M. S.
The staff were very accommodating, we hadn't booked a table but they managed to fit us in. The staff were friendly and professional, we ordered our drinks and food very swiftly after being seated. We did have a bit of a wait to go and get our food from the carvery but the chef was very apologetic and gave us a free portion of pigs in blankets to apologise for the delay. The food was fantastic and all plates were cleared. Highly recommend.
R. A.
Had a breakfast here, it as nice. Slow to get mug for a drink and cutlery. Would eat here again.
N. M.
Stopped in en route to the coast from London- brilliant roast, good value for money and great staff, Tom was great!
E. B.
Food was amazing would definitely come again friendly service from Rebecca who was very lovely
A. P.
Good breakfast with everything nicely done. Friendly staff and a quick service.
R. P.
Started to visit here more and more. Food is good, staff are great amd there is a small playground in the garden to entertain the kids...
M. D.
Had a Sunday roast, choice of meat and plenty of vegetables very good, serving staff, polite and attentive enjoyed my visit.
M. D.
The girl that greeted us at the door seemed a bit bored and unbothered, and also walked past our meals on the side for about 5 minutes, however the rest of our visit was fab. We both had the bacon and cheese burgers with chips made by Bruce and they were delicious, and our server Liam was attentive and friendly. Thank you :)
P. B.
Had a fantastic breakfast at The Haywain today. Everything was cooked perfectly and was hot. Which is great for a buffet style breakfast. The sausages, bacon, eggs and beans are a good quality. They also serve fried bread, plum tomatoes and hash browns. Mushrooms are extra. Toast is also available.
Staff are friendly and helpful and the price is amazing value.
T. R.
The staffs are very nice with friendly service. The food are delicious, especially the pizza. We ordered 3 starters for £9.99 and they came with good portion and all are tasty. There is an optimal parking space. We will go to this place again if we visit the surrounding area.
p. m.
Welcoming staff and a nice atmosphere. The pub is nice and clean and great for a family lunch. Of The Carvery is great value and very good quality. The freshly made Pizza are a hit with the children.
Would have liked to see some real ales but Doonbar filled that gap.All in all worth a visit.
S. C.
Although forewarned that 7 or 8 may arrive, following a family funeral, when we turned up with about 30 we were made very welcome. There was a wide variety of food, to suit all tastes that was well prepared by helpful, friendly staff. The Haywain staff did all they could to ensure we had an appropriate good time following a very difficult, emotional event. Should you require somewhere to gather at such an emotionally difficult time I would unreservedly recommend the Haywain. I would advise that you try to inform them ahead of time to assist them to support you as best as they can.
N. P.
Best carvery I've ever had. What a great place staff are fantastic.
A. G.
Lovely food and friendly staff. Would have given 5 stars but there was hair on the potatoes and cauliflower cheese and staff did not notice
K. W.
Lovely food. Very nice and helpful staff.
P. M.
Great pub with lovely food, not had a bad one here since new management, covid regulations seem to work well, you get called up to come and do your carvery instead of people waiting in a line like it was before. Really hope they don't get rid of this system once everything is back to normal as there was nothing worse than being sat eating next to people queuing up. As with all carveries this place can float up and down depending on the time you go. Always best to hit lunch and dinner times when not busy as the food doesn't stay fresh under the heaters. Recommended for a place to enjoy a roast!
D. G.
Love their breakfast, so cheap, service very good, always chatty & helpful staff.
W. S.
Excellent service, by Tom, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Nothing was too much trouble.
C. B.
Lovely meal and services all improved and Tom is great
E. F.
Food is fine. Servers are lovely
However. I did take issue with a member of bar staff, who, when I was telling my three year old no to having a toy from the machine, bought him one anyway... That wasn't your place to do and really doesn't help me reinforce that "I want" doesn't unfortunately always get. I know she meant well... But I was actually quite miffed by this.
D. F.
Excellent food, as much as you can eat breakfast for £9.
A. B.
Lovely food and friendly staff, what more could you want.
G. T.
Made a booking via the website and there was no problem being seated on time. The carvery was really nice and not too expensive either. It does seem like the staff are constantly rushing around though as they are trying to cater for every taste! General pub food/pizzaria and carvery seems a bit much to handle!
B. A.
Lovely food, and wonderful service. Tom was incredibly kind and funny, me and the ladies really enjoyed everything. Definitely be back soon
C. B.
The meal was lovely, and the staff very attentive.
A. H.
Good value for money. The buffet is really good and have a varied menu as well. The pizza oven is good with really good selection of salad. Their breakfast buffet is so worth having, with free refills on tea and coffee
P. T.
Lovely food ,fresh and tasty dessert was lush .
T. T.
Love this place. I go here often with my partner.
Yesterday had a family lunch at the haywain.
Lovely experience as always.
The food was lovely and the staff also, Tom and Amber are always going the extra mile to make sure we are happy when we are there they will always make time to have a quick chat too
Highly recommended this place.
N. T.
This is a very clean place to eat, and dogs are also welcome in a dedicated area.
A very helpful and happy place to be in.
T. S.
...fraught traffic jam on the M27, and stopped to stretch my legs at pub/family eatery.
Just wanted a coffee, but this was no problem for the staff...found me a table, despite families and the early lunch time gathering.
Plenty of parking available too....
D. C.
haven't been for a while and im glad to see they have up there game. friendly staff good food
J. m.
Love Gorgeous George (better known as head Chef) kept our table in hysterics by being so nice . Taking Daves / Chris’s banter all in his stride . The vouchers to eat free next time were much appreciated 😂😂😂😂. Thanks George lots of love the ladies at the table …Quick shout out to Tabitha … only been here two weeks but awesome at her new job . Thank you too x x
m. m.
Well 3 and 3/4 stars....
Food was ok we had burgers and wings...
Service could be better but the guy in charge during the evening was quite good at just ironing out little niggles.
I think I would go again for a clearer review but would certainly recommend people to have a look for themselves....
Lovely pub
C. L.
Amazing food, fast service.
Staff are very welcoming, would 100% recommend
P. F.
Good quality food. I like that kids meals/pizza/burgers come with "help yourself" selection from salad bar and carvery vegetables.
We visit about every month or so and the food and service is always excellent.
C. N.
Brilliant service lo lovely food will go again
d. j.
The staff here were brilliant, especially Alice, one of the waitresses. Some of the people i were with have some dietary needs and she literally knew what people could and couldn't have. Very refreshing as usually some staff dont seem in other places we have visited dont seem that bothered.
Well priced food. Everyone enjoyed everything they had. Carvery was lush.
Will definitely go again
G. J.
Food was really nice and staff are very polite
W. C.
The coach tour company I work for always goes here for our December Turkey & Tinsel lunch. Never disappointed.
J. W.
Friendly, helpful, attentive staff which was really appreciated after the the 3 horrendous local restaurants we had just visited trying to fine a vegan meal. The chef was really helpful and the vegan nut roast was incredible, at a great price. The restaurant was clean and Comfortable, we could not ask for more. Thank you.
L. S.
We came here on a whim because our original place in mind were not serving food, and were met with a member of the team called George, amazing guy. I am vegan and my boyfriend is coeliac (a pain, we know) and he was helping us with absolutely everything, tips for us elsewhere, he got us fresh everything, told us allergens for everything and did not disappoint in the slightest. Worst of all? He wouldn’t accept a tip, wow. We’re already talking about coming back another time and we hope he would be here next time too, nothing was too much trouble for him. Couldn’t recommend enough. The food was absolutely delicious too, we were stuffed to the brim and our bill was still under £20, we were so surprised.
r. a.
Pretty much like it as it is love the food,
J. B.
We always get a great meal at the haywain with excellent service. The tables are set out with good social distancing. The staff are all very friendly, especially the waiting staff. Pizzas and carvery both excellent quality. Good sized portions and great value for money.
m.
Carvery is good. Still adopted table service which was smooth.got invited to servery by staff in order of arrival very safe .
P. S.
Excellent staff and value for money
D. M.
Canary was brilliant service little slow to order puddings and clear plates
C. J.
Good food and friendly staff
Very clean and tidy
I will definitely go again
R. P.
Brilliant value for money food always good a great selection from the carvery of fresh veg and meat. Staff always friendly and helpful always cheery especially Alice would highly recommend
G. G.
We had a great, eat as much as you want breakfast. We'll cooked, tasty food. Tables well situated. Very good
V. W.
5* Fantastic food and friendly staff!
Arrived without a reservation in the hope of getting a table, luckily they had one free and we were seated within minutes.
(Would recommend booking a table to avoid disappointment as it did get busy)
All five of us had a carvery which was declious.
Look forward to returning again soon and will definitely recommend you to family and friends.
G. P.
My partner and I came to the Haywain tonight and we haven't been since before covid. The staff were really friendly and professional. The covid measures they have put in place are great. Thank you all. Food was amazing too 😊.
D. G.
They do the best carvery we always travel from Bournemouth to go there
A. C.
Nice family restaurants great food and Ryan the chef is very helpful well worth a visit
H. T.
Went for Boxing Day meal today. The staff were brilliant. Unfortunately my daughter, partner and kids were ill so were unable to to make it. The manager was able to offer meals at a later date which he didn’t have to do. We really appreciate this. The meal was great. Best cavery local to us. Thank you very much.
C. S.
Beautiful food, beautiful beer. Couldnt ask for anything better love. Only problem is that theres some waiters and I'm a more all waitresses kinda man but I'll let it slide this once.
S. M.
Always good food and friendly staff and special thanks to Alice who always looks after us throughout the evening. Would highly recommend this venue. *****
G. S.
I had a nut roast carvery and it was delicious! I was really pleasantly surprised, the vegetable selection was good and roast potatoes lovely. The staff were really helpful and able to tell me what was suitable for vegans and made special gravy for me. The only downside was we did have to wait quite a while but it was worth it!
R. F.
You get what you pay for. Not in a hurry to go back, food wasn't that tasty.
S. L. S.
Fresh cooked carvery and not to crowded, you don't feel rushed
F. R.
Lovely place! Super friendly, especially Tom who was both welcoming and humorous. Amazing menu- perhaps too many choices!
P. R.
Booked a table for breakfast. Staff were very good nothing to much trouble. The food was lovely empty plates all round. Thank you.
M. T.
Staff friendly and polite but an air of disorganisation. The carvery was quite limited in terms of what I've seen elsewhere, but very acceptable. Rare to find somewhere where they do everything well.
L. E.
We booked the Haywain Stonehouse very last minute and must say we are very glad we did.
The food was amazing! We all left with in a mild food coma and even my 2 year old daughter ate her dinner with fussing... This alone is a miracle as she's hardly ever eats without making a fuss.
The staff where also very polite and accommodating.
We will definitely be coming back again when we are next down this way.
Thank you for a great meal.
C. T. R.
The food was nice and the pub was lovely inside. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only criticism I would have was having to go and collect your food once it was ready, so you could get the vegetables, salad or chips to go with the food. It would make more sense for customers to give their choice when ordering the food, so this can be added onto the plate by the chef, then the dish can be brought over to the table.
I realise this is only my thought, others may not agree.
J. W.
Sadly this was not up to the usual high standard, service was very slow, waited a considerable time for carver to arrive. Some of the vegetables were past their best, dry peas and Cabbage although the Cabbage tasted o. k. Meat was good and potatoes excellent if you like them very crispy.
Well we can't be perfect every day. Still think this is a great place for a roast.
A. B.
Fantastic roasts, the biggest we have ever had. The food was hot, which is not always the case. Vegetables cooked just right. Worth dropping in.This was the Haywain in Cadnam, Dorset. The breakfast was good value also.
j. o.
Excellent service from the guy's dishing out the food, they very helpful 10 out 10.
Can't say much about the waitress they let the place down badly.
E. H.
Not the best carvery I've ever had but still delicious. Atmosphere relaxed although really busy. Lovely table reserved for us. Our waitress, Manoly, was very good. She took our orders from our table and made sure we were all ok (my mum is a wheelchair user) Would definitely return for another meal
J. M.
Amazing experience today. Felt very safe. Food is ordered and brought to your table. Lovely freshly cooked. Staff very friendly and helpful. Manager Tom has done an excellent job. Thank you
d. c.
Lovely place for a carvery staff very nice meet and greet at door was nice food brought to table after chef dished up wasn't over crowded so plenty of space thanks for looking after 7 of us much appreciated
M. M.
Just want to say a big Thankyou to Amber and the rest of the staff for making our birthday celebration last night such a brilliant experience. Having been here numerous times in the past, it was our first visit under the new restrictions and nothing was too much trouble. We were 11 on 2 separate tables in our family bubbles and felt cared for the whole time. The staff were very attentive and helpful to my 11 year old granddaughter who is coeliac. The food was good and plenty of it, most of us had the carvery.
A most enjoyable evening. Thankyou
T. I.
Booked for mother's day for a party of 14.
Food was good and varied menu was a bonus. Friendly staff.... good value ... No complaints at all. Was even treated to a private sitting of a ladies singing group on their return from a Bournemouth competition.
Overall a memorable day, so Thank you.
A. H.
One of the best carverys I have had very accomodating with request for particular table due to mum needing one with lots light as partially blind thankyou
A. M.
Stopped in on the off chance, it was the best meal of the holiday so far.
All 5 members of our party enjoyed every mouth full.
d. p.
First time here tonight and have to say nothing was too much hassle for the staff just a shame all staff in restaurants can't be like they are here super nice super helpful 👍👍👍👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
J. C.
We ordered one Carvery and Chippy Platter off the menu. The Platter came quite quickly and look amazing but when it was served we were not offered the choice to have vinegar or any sauces to accompany it or told where they were to go and get them ourselves.
It would have been curteous to have been offered this by the server.
The Carvery was delicious.
K. V.
I enjoy the breakfasts here, although I would prefer scrambled eggs rather than fried which is on offer, as far as the carvery goes it would be nice to have a few more slices of meat, veg is a bit hit and miss sometimes to hard so avoid the ones that are, but in whole one of nice carvery’s around. Oh it would also be nice to see the staff smile now and again.
J. N.
Just had a fantastic family meal here this evening and want to leave this review now before I forget. Staff all very friendly and made an extra effort to help us celebrate a family member's 18th birthday.
Food excellent and everyone in our party of 10 was very happy with what each had ordered.
Thank you again to all the staff, it was a great evening.
S. O.
Awesome dinner on Sunday evening - 25.10.20. We visit the Haywain often enough, always a pleasure. Alice is a credit to your Haywain team - from start to finish nothing was a chore for her; made our visit much much enjoyable. Looking forward to coming again. 😀
J. A.
Excellent food , very reasonably priced . Pleasant atmosphere and good service .Worth a visit 👍👍
D. G.
As there were just the two of us for Sunday lunch we thought we would treat ourselves with the luxury of not having to cook today.
We decided on The Haywain at the last minute and even though it was very busy we got a table quite easily.
The food was very nice with a great selection of meats and lots of veggies, gravy and sauces to choose from. The price is reasonable at just under £10 for a standard plate, which you can of course pile high if you choose.
My only real criticisum is that the queueing time for food is very long. This is not due to the speed of the staff but due to other guests taking forever to load their plates. A second serving station might help this although i am not sure where they could put one as space is tight.
However, the food was great, piping hot and the place has a nice family atmosphere. Would recommend :)
C. E.
Admittedly, the first impression of this place was not great when greeted by someone who, it seems, didn't want to be there. It wasn't terribly clean either, which was a surprise given how quiet the place was (it did get busier, we were just early).
However, the food made up for this. Portion sizes were generous and great value for money.
Parking isn't a problem either; there are plenty of parking spaces. It's good for families too, with a small play area for children.
I'd certainly come back here again.
E. C.
After a recent bad experience here we decided to come back in hopes it was a one off and we were absolutely delighted that it was. We come here every week for the carvery.
George is fantastic! Such a lovely guy and the food is even better when he is there compared to the other staff.
So friendly we love having a natter with him.
Can't wait to come back on Tuesday!
Keep up the good work :)
w. t.
Nice breakfast no complaints with food and service. I did struggle to get in through main entrance in my wheelchair, the door COULD be 4inch wider we did struggle.
A. R.
Amazing food staff are great nothing is to much trouble.
Very clean and tidy restraunt all very organised.
Good plans in place for social distancing.
Felt very safe eating here.
Thank you
R. T.
If your looking for a bargain and happy for average food then this is worth a try carvery, pizza, fish, pies help your self to veg usually with this standard of food I would give a three. Although the food is average at best. The prices are extremely fair.
There is a very good selection of ales, lagers and beers again all reasonably priced.
The main reason for a four instead of a three is the staff are extremely friendly and really can't do enough for you!
Well worth a cheap eat!
K. G.
Fantastic carvery as always !
N. S.
staff were great. food no complaints from us! couldn't fault any of it. unique in it's own way, shame that other establishments don't follow it's lead. £16 for 2 pizza plus free drink is great by anyone's standards. pizza was great. thank you.
h. N.
Went to the haywain last minute for my daughter's 1st birthday after being let down by the previous place we had booked. The staff couldn't be more helpful. We had a lot of people come for the meal and everyone was happy. They made a fuss of our birthday girl and made her feel special. The food was lovely and we all left very happy.

Kids love free ice cream. Service and food quality a bit hit and miss. Visited on 02.03.19 early evening. Not bad all round but has been better. 2 adults and 2 kids. With drinks £40 so ok but not great.
S. D. C. M.
Not so good since it changed from Crown Carvery. Prices hiked, smaller portions. OK its clean, food acceptable, but was 10 times better under Crown. Obviously the change has cost them trade as it was quiet compared to before.
J. E.
I was at this place today with three friends for lunch.
Excellent Food Today.
Excellent Service.
The staff very helpful and polite.
Nothing too much trouble.
Definately be back again.
A. D.
We had carvery and the turkey and beef was very tasty. Roast potatoes were crispy and lovely rich gravy. The waitress friendly and helpfull we had our work christmas lunch and she went and got our drinks for us to save us going to the bar. All in all a very enjoyable lunch. Would go there again
E. W.
Staff excellent. Breakfast as much as you like . Tea coffee extra. Value for money and all nice and hot.
W. S.
Premises has just been refurbished. Great design and atmosphere. Really recommend the pizza selection which are cooked in new custom made ovens, delicious. Food selection has now greatly improved and service is very good. Great for the family. A++
P. H.
Lovely afternoon visit to the Hay wain today. Greeted by Alice who was very welcoming and helpful - explained the new rules in place much clearer than elsewhere we’ve been. Great food. Great service. And must I add, we felt very Covid safe here. Thank you again
M. P.
The staff go above and beyond of what is expected of them, huge thank you to Tom, Lisa and George for providing such a great place to eat, for the extra lengths you all go to in keeping it a safe place with your Covid protocols.
D. E.
Nearly missed the restaurant. No lighting outside whatever. Not the sign or car park. Nice meal. The roast potatoes were reheated though. Spoilt the overall experience. I do normally go out of my way to go to the haywain for the normally lovely spuds. It was also very hot in the dining area. Lastly. The chef was however very friendly and weighing the meat is a bit weird. But fair. I have been behind someone who has had a larger portion of meat and felt a bit perplexed
A. S.
The pub is very crowded with furniture and when busy you really don't have much room to move around. The service is very slow especially when the Carvery is busy.
The food is good enough quality for a Carvery and but the staff seem to have issues with their process to getting the food out quick enough so that delay can be averted.
There does seem to be quite a few members of staff just floating around not doing much. I feel that they could be better utilised by helping the Chef out on the carvery.
Shame really as this place has been here a long time and previously its always been an experience.
Hopefully time will change and the management will get their processes ironed out so that its becomes a slick operation again and I can up-rate my review.
C. C.
Food reasonable, staff friendly enough, unfortunately the place was scruffy in need of a re-dec, and a good tidy up.
T. B.
Very friendly service and decent value pub grub
S. A.
This is a nice, clean pub and staff have always been friendly and helpful. Only been here for the all you can eat breakfast and that itself it great. It's a buffet style so you can pick what you want and they also do good vegetarian sausages. Free refills on tea and coffee and they have a free car park for customers
d. V.
Amazing food. Fabulous and friendly staff. Great value for money.
D. S.
Good meal eventually poor carvery choice. Half of the pudding deals, options unavailable, minimal staff that could be more customer friendly. Had to clear our own table before puddings.
A. C.
great breakfast and nice people but run out of tinned toms but never mind there are bigger problems in this world
J. W.
Really great food at a very reasonable price. Covid19 restrictions in place but felt safe and received very good service. Would recommend and would advise booking ahead.
J. H.
Went for breakfast, reasonable price for the unlimited option. Staff attentive and polite despite being rushed off their feet. Only downside is the queues at times but this would be down to limited oven space and people feeling loading your plate with more food than you would eat is the way to go...
m. m.
A most enjoyable meals highly recommended.Always helpful and pleasant. Mike
B. D.
The car park only had a few free spaces so we knew it was going to be a bit busy.
We got a table quite easily but there wasn't much space between tables so we moved to a huge round table with more legroom.
The server on the carvery was polite and efficient but more importantly a saints fan
He commented on my football shirt.
The food was well cooked and tasty, with a variety of different meat.
The only thing spoiled our meal was a young girl being allowed by her parents to run around causing havoc. Quite a few of our fellow diners complained until eventually one of the staff asked her to stop.
Apart from that we had a very enjoyable experience and will come back.
r. m.
Food was lovely, service was good, not very expensive. There's a choice of a carvery or pizza then you choose salad and sides, it's a very good idea. I would definitely recommend a visit here.
S. J.
Nice carvery, plenty of choice
g. c.
Went for a lovely lunch at the haywain, a friendly warm welcome! The service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. The staff, Tom and Ty, are a credit to this establishment! I will definitely return!
E. G.
What a great unlimited breakfast! The value is great for the area where it's contenders are probably McDonalds or Totton Morrisons (which have disappointed me time and time again). I was surprised by how good the breakfast was... Nice quality sausages and bacon, great fried bread and eggs all cooked just right! I went on Friday and I'm looking forward to going again in the morning!
Also it's great that they do Armed forces discount on top of what is a great price for unlimited breakfast.
The one negative was how busy it got which is only testament to it's great value. It's obviously not a secret with the tradesmen judging by the amount of hi-viz coming in for the great breakfast. To avoid disappointment if theres abig group just book a table in advance.
M. B.
Service good as usual, food was up to standard, had a good experience
Thank you.
D. M.
cant fault the place so deserves 5*. really nice fresh pizzas for good prices anyway but they also do crazy offers eg tonight was 2 pizzas and a bottle of wine for £15, bargain. food was cooked very well, salad bar was spotless, well stocked and fresh, carvery looked good. we'll come here again for sure, maybe to try the brekkie next time
added 24/6/19- came for breakfast £6.50 for all you can eat brekkie and hot drinks, great value. much better than other stonehouse places in the area, they have plenty of staff and a good turnover so everything on the deck is kept fresh. eggs with runny yolks? whatever next!
P. H.
Lovely pub /restaurant at the edge of the New Forest. Pleasant interior with comfortable seating and a cosy atmosphere. Friendly, helpful staff and the carvery was excellent! Special thanks to Manoly for all her care and attention.
J. W.
The first time I've been to this place, I went fora Sunday afternoon, upon arrival I could see the restaurant was busy.
We had no one to greet us, even though some of our party had arrived a welcome wouldn't have been too much to ask.
Once seated we became unsure whether we had to wait for someone to take our order or make our order at the bar. Eventually we guessed the bar was the best option.
The bar was relatively busy; which is understandable for a Sunday, but it was a little understaffed as it took a while for us to get noticed, let alone served.
Oncr we had managed to order our carverys we set our sights to the serving area, we were met by a wide array of meats and small selection of dried out vegetables and stuffing.
I had ordered a vegetarian option roast, I gave over the ticket I had been issued and as the menu had stated I awaited a portion of nut roast. During this time I had collected my vegetables and other parts of my meal and continued to wait for the nut roast. after some time I was starting to think they might be bringing to my table so I chose to sit and eat so not to let the rest of my meal get cold.
By the time I had almost finished my plate I started to realise this nut roast might not be showing this side of Sunday. I informed a member of staff who very apologetically went to grab the management, upon realising the situation he informed me that I had ordered the vegetarian option and not the nut roast option. This was not made clear on the menu when I ordered at the bar, the nut roast was listed under the veggie roast option, so I logically assumed this is what I was ordering.
This being the case the gentleman did apologise and rectified the situation quickly and efficiently, as an added bonus he came back and kindly refunded the meal for me.
As happy I was for this conclusion to the meal I still feel this could have been avoided had the options been made clearer and the lack of staff interaction made the whole affair abit less enjoyable.
K. W.
Delicious food at a good price, staff very polite & helpful. Having found me a table Ty then allowed me to change it for a more discreet one as I was alone.
m. m.
Meat was very dry and tasteless and vege4ables over cooked too. So disappointing...
P. A.
Four of us went for lunch at around 1.30pm and had the carvery at £3.99 each. There were lots of people having meals, the staff were polite and helpful. The carvery had all three meats available as advertised, and all were nicely cooked and tasty. Big selection of vegetables that were mostly ok (the other 3 in the group thought the carrots could have been better, but I thought they were fine!). On the whole we thought the meal was exactly what you'd expect and was of reasonable quality - we'd certainly go back again. Other people seem to have reported poor experiences, but we didn't. Its certainly not 'haute cuisine' but that's not what we expected anyway! The place was clean, and the carvery looked like most other carveries I've seen, and we felt it was very good value for money.
J. G.
The Haywain - it is what it is. Reasonably priced food and drink.
Freshly baked pizza to order - with fantastic drink combination offers.
I haven't tried the carvery.
The staff are outstanding. Friendly, welcoming and accomodating.
W. F.
Nice atmosphere accompanied with a friendly service. Food is good value and is of good quality. Children's menu is varied enough and set to a satisfactory price. The stonebaked pizzeria is a welcomed addition. Children's play area out side is of good standard. My only complaint and the one thing preventing a 5th star would be the incorrect description of one of their puddings. The Malt Ball Crunch Pie is not a malt ball.
P. B.
Went up for lunch today absolutely brilliant couldnt fault anything . All safety measures are in place the staff were all brilliant they have a gd system going . Highly recommended will be going back again . Thank u Ty our waiter and Tom going through the procedure well done to you all fantastic job
C. G.
Lovely food, great service
N. D.
Thank you so much to George and Sophie for all their hard work for tonight's dinner as they were at front of house. Trying to get all the food out as quickly as possible. Although there was no Turkey and waiting for the beef. They did everything they could for all the customers. Also so sorry for my son being sick outside your door .
Nathan and Jo and Mitchell
J. E.
Good quick service, fantastic food, and polite, courteous staff. Prices are pretty reasonable too, great value for money. Definitely will be returning
J. F.
Lovely meal, good service. Will definitely be going back
J. H.
Carvery was really lovely. Juicy turkey and tender beef..veg selection very good ..definatlty would return..best time to go 12.00 when afternoon service starts.staff friendly and helpful...good value for money.
B. H.
Great pub/carvery..your not going to get al a carte here, what you do get is a plate full of roast dinner for a bargain price, it is however very good value for the quality. They also have a salad bar and a pizzas, the pizzas have home made thin bases and the toppings are of good quality. The only let down is that the chips always seem a little over cooked and being under the halogen lights makes them dry and stodgy.
n. k.
Something a bit different (sort of ) pizza and a Carvery in one place , her in doors had the GO LARGE carvery and yer it was massive ! Great pizza I went go hot and one can confirm it's hot chilli flakes are a plenty , nice chilled out pub friendly staff
R.

Good all you can eat breakfast.
Good carvery too, both for a reasonable and fair price. Good staff to assist.
It’s clean and tidy and it can get busy at lunchtimes.
S. B.
Nice family dinner, with good quality carvery. Always choice of hot veg. Staff pleasant, worth booking for groups. Small outside seating erea with climbing frame. Close to forest.
M. P.
The all you can eat breakfast is really good and very good price. The car wry is also good.
M. J.
Top quality food and prices loved it
C. A.
My Mum and I are regulars as the choice is excellent and Jackie, Bruce and lovely staff are so very welcoming. We look forward to our visits even more with newly renovated restaurant with a lovely carvery choice of gammon, turkey and beef during the week and a good selection of veggies and roast potatoes/mash or chips. I also love pizzas and highly recommend the hoisin duck pizza. There are also a good selection of desserts but I am comfortably too full to try. Also their 3 course Xmas meal is good value at £10.49. Still to try the burger shack. So much to choose from now but what a lovely choice. I highly recommend The HAYWAIN and Mum at 91 loves the Haywain too. Once you have found the Haywain you will always return so just enjoy you will love the experience.
l. b.
Loved it pizza was awesome
J. G.
Excellent, but slow service. Lots of parking carvery recommended.
F. N.
Beautiful food at an frankly amazing price, be mindful of timing when booking as it would surly sell out fast! Staff were really friendly and happy to engage in conversation.
V. D.
Great experience and staff very helpful
A. C.
Lovely, really fabulous staff and great food. I was so well looked after.
K. U.
First visit to The Haywain on Friday evening. Food was yummy and well priced, staff were friendly and helpful.
T. W.
We went for breakfast and although the social distancing was fine there was s long wait before we could get our food
T. L.
Great food and value not frills just taste and value
M. M.
Recently refurbished (Nov/Dec 16) & re-launched as a Stonehouse Pizza & Carvery. Bright & fresh, the carvery is still the best (gvfm), but whilst the pizzas are tasty, we found the bases a bit too dry for our liking. This may be down to staff getting to grips with the newly installed pizza ovens. Worth a visit, and decide for yourself.
a. g.
The haywain is a great pub to visit in the new forest and is also on the main route into holbury/ blackfield and calshott so is easy to get to.
Its located in dibden of the roundabout after apple more tesco
It has a reasonably priced menu of plenty of starters, mains and desserts and a fully stocked bar with plenty of drinks to choose from.
Service is excellent and there is plenty of car parking in front of the pub as well which is off the road.
Definitely worth a visit👍.
P. W.
We have eaten here a few times and food, cleanliness and staff attitude has mostly been good. We went one Sunday evening a few weeks ago and had a long wait also food was very average. We will probably give it another go .
A.
We just finish carvery today, was one of the best :) I'm coming here from 8 years, but today was delicious, big portions and all meet great. Thank you
F.
Stopped in for an early morning breakfast after a long trip. Excellent value buffet breakfast. Friendly, clean family pub. Really good service. 👍🙂
S. L.
It was ok, food was cheap and cheerful but had an issue with staff showing me a label for a bought in baked cheesecake. Manager didn't seem to have the nouse to deal with it properly...
C. J.
Such good food and treated so well by Amber. Would recommend a visit
d. a. d.
Great place, great staff, great with the kids. Manager is a leg end. 5 stars.
K. K.
Been here a few times, the staff have always been polite, the food good and not expensive. I recommend trying the breakfast buffet, it can be a bit busy but worth it.
d. g.
Great food and service with unlimited tea or coffee 👍. Just wish they did unlimited soft drinks for my teenager's like Toby's
P. H.
Tryed to book on line thought I had but my phone but the manager found one for us he was great
w. n.
Nice place nice service had to pay 1 pound extra for mushrooms and 2 pounds for tea so this made it over priced
The advertised price of £4.98 should cover all of that maybe 1 pound for tea making it £5.98 each would be reasonable but its not worth anymore than that
Had a response to my review from the haywain which is always nice
But ive read back through other reviews and its just a copy and paste response that are all the same
I would expect them to address the bad points which they havnt so ive reduced my rating from 4 to 3 stars
E. C.
Took longer than I would like for food but the burgers we had were lovely
K. P.
Tasty carvery served 7 days a week! We will definately revisit when in the area! Blue light discount too!
L. M.
Food is always delicious. Staff friendly. Condiments could be moved as you need to squeeze through the queue to grab some gravy.
M. R.
Considering the place was buzzing, service was quick and spot on. Great food.
J. E.
Regular visitor to the Haywain, glad to be back since lockdown!
Staff always work so hard to cater for everyone's needs! Now taken covid 19 measures seriously & a safe environment!

P. M.

M. S.
Good pub grub.Well organized friendly staff.Fresh made food served in good time.Nice place to visit.
J. R.
Lovely food but chef had dirty apron which was offputting. Barmaid needs training on mixing drinks i.e. blackcurrant and lemonade needs mixing, had to ask for straw to stir it.
B.
Lovely family meal, great food, friendly staff! Would very much recommend!
G. L.
We were in a hurry and we sat down, ordered drinks, ate our carvery and paid within 50 minutes. Good food and very good value.

Pizzas are wonderful, could do with a better salad section, not a fan of the carvery, meat a bit hit and miss not very tender and veg are definitely frozen ☹️
J. E.

ten of us for the sunday carvery..it wasnt cheap at more than £7.plus a sweet and a couple of rounds of drinks. So we spent quite a bit of cash..Food was average..staff were miserable .We cleared our own plates from the table..Weve been here several times on a sunday and expect better for the money.
