Reviews of The Horse & Jockey
G. B.
Lovely pub, great outdoor seating the menu is different well presented but slightly over priced starter's but they do offer small plates we went in afternoon but I would imagine with the outdoor lighting in the evening would give it a good experience
P. M.
This really is a nice pub in a lovely location. Today no eating inside the pub, but outdoor eating area set up is really good, you wont get wet or cold. . Food is good too and staff were very efficient and pleasant. I had mushroom risotto, good portion size and my friend had baked cod. Sorry no food pics, always forget to do this. There is an outdoor bar and again a really good set up. Just a hop skip jump there is a National Trust walk along the river, dog friendly and also in pub. . I saw people rock up in a small boat, and a dinghy for a drink, what a lovely way to arrive at a pub. Enjoy xx

Went there for Sunday Roast. We ordered their pork and vegetarian roast. The gravy was thick and flavourful. The roasted garlic and veggies really completed the dish. We ended our meal with a lemon panna cotta tart. The staff were attentive and friendly.
R. S.
Lovely food and very nice staff. They are really kind here and very dog friendly which was great. The food was very tasty, it took a while to come out but was lovely when it did so worth the wait. The deserts were delicious as well!
T. G.
We stopped here last night and had a really lovely meal here. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was amazing, a small menu but that made it easier to choose. Very tasty food, well presented and would certainly go again if we were in the area!
J. D.
Lovely pub. Menu is good with a decent range and prices are very reasonable. Staff very nice too.
T. B.
Excellent service right from the phone call to book.
Our roast dinners all piping hot, sounds simple but have been places where half the plate is hot half cold. Really tasty food. Will definitely be back.
A. M.
Lovely venue very friendly staff but waited about an hour for our food, would have liked it to have turned up a little quicker, staff did take the time to apologise. When the food arrived it was lovely a little over priced. Nice venue to catch up with friends a number of people arriving by kyack. They have made a nice outside, undercover and nearest setting area. Would possibly go back.

We are a group of 8 people who regularly lunch on a Sunday most of us had the roast beef one of the dinners was dry and tough so was not eaten we had mention it after we had finished. As we had a birthday cake we didn't have desserts so we were offered a free coffee which they brought out straight away we had to wait 25 minutes for them to take our order for the other 7 coffees as we were told they were to busy to take our order.
Although the rest of the meals were fine we felt the service was below par
A. G.
A while since I've been here, it looks like it's had a total refurb. Looks really good indoors with loads of outdoor space for when the weather turns warmer. Food was great, sea bream on tomato infused linguine I doubt could be bettered anywhere, and reasonably priced. Will be back.
R. A.
Nice pub with a great atmosphere and lovely setting. Lovely to have some vegan options especially for dessert. Would be even more improved if they had some better vegan main courses for example vegan burger and chips rather than just risotto which is quite boring and safe. Also my family had to keep their coats on yesterday as it just wasn't warm enough inside.
J. H.
Beautiful location and decent food. They've got all weather areas food/drink. It's a traditional country pub inside, but they also have an undercover outdoor area with heaters or a riverside seating area. You can even Paddle board or Kayak from the jetty (eventually goes to Hamble Marina).
M. M.
A friendly greeting awaits & we were shown to our table in the bar/ restaurant area. Our waitress to our drinks order and we were left to study the extensive menu. Our food arrived quickly and it was delicious. Would recommend.
P. C.
Lovely example of a country pub.
Good beer and food, and excellent service.
Fish and chips were superbly cooked
Look for the info about the whale!!
J. H.
Great location for paddle boarders as there is great access to the water, when the tide is right. Do check tide times though, if the tide gets too low you will get stuck in the mud.
Do bring along a mask though (even outside), otherwise you will feel the brutal wrath of a very vocal (bordering on down right rude) barman!
R.
Great location. But some of the food was disappointing. Fish and chips was a reheated frozen thing and sadly didn’t taste as nearly as good as it looked. Mac and cheese was good however.
A. O.
Tasty food and nice pub garden!
M. H.
Food arrived very quickly. Mushroom Tagliatelle was tasty but partner’s steak not so good. Not busy at all when we visited.
P. A.
Went for father's Day lunch and had a really nice meal. Service was good, really nice walks by the river
H. R.
I feel very torn with this place. My Partner and I visited a few months ago and had the Italian tapas, it was great! However, we returned recently for a Sunday roast and were SO DISAPPOINTED! Tough meat, lack lustre vegetable selection and cheap trimmings (I presume the sad little stuffing ball was frozen?) And £9 for a child's roast?! Such a shame as we were a large party and were excited to take our families here but the empty restaurant spoke volumes.
J. D.
Outstanding service, great outdoor space and bar. Paddled up and nearly missed the tide out we were having such a good time.
a. j.
Arrived by water and made to feel very welcome by very friendly and helpful staff. Beer was good and food excellent..

Its the little things isnt it? Cold night, but not overly warm inside. At 1900 and after having chosen starters and mains, we were told that one of the main vegetarian mains was not available. Three out of five wanted this main. Not a good start.... Service could have been better. Some of my starter rolled onto the table as it was served to me. Would have appreciated the choice of a replacement, but this wasn't offered. Four of our party got their starters on time. We had to prompt the waitress to ask if the fifth was coming, whilst the rest of the party watched as theirs got cold. Similarly this happened on the main course as well. Coffee was ordered for one person as desserts were served for the others. The coffee never arrived with the desserts and was cancelled. Having said all that, the food that did arrive was really really nice. Tasty, hot, well-cooked and well presented. Why didn't we say all this to the proprietor at the time? The meal was a Christmas gift, those that bought the gift were present, and it would have soured the whole evening.
So if we come back? it will be only for the food and the hope that the little things have been sorted out.
A. K.
Tasty heartwarming food, and pleasant welcoming staff.
Even though we (parents +3 hungry kids) arrived slightly late and when they almost closed the kitchen, they were kind enough to find a table for us and serve a delicious meal.
We would definitely come again!
J. W.
I booked for 2 people in advance. My guest is a real ale buff, so we were disappointed to be told on arrival none was available due to uncertainty about covid opening. Food and service was good, but maybe inform customers of problems before arrival?
R. P.
This place has a really nice feel to it. Large seating area both inside and out. Plenty of tables for those who are dining. Free car park, but not sure if it can cope with dozens of cars?
Reasonable prices for drinks. Nicely decorated with interesting pictures and artefacts around the walls, including a guitar signed by Paul McCartney...although whether it is his actual guitar?
Free WiFi.
J. K.
Excellent Sunday lunch today. The food was plentiful and delicious. Very nice staff at this pub. They are friendly, attentive and efficient. Definitely will be coming here again to have a meal.
A. L.
Excellent food, very impressed. We went for a Sunday roast and had a lovely meal. With a choice of chicken, pork, or beef it very much caters for all. I had the chicken and found it to be well seasoned, moist, and delicious. The service was very prompt too, despite being prime Sunday Lunch hour! Clearly the staffing and training shone through. Finally the beautiful wooden structure made for pleasent views next to the river and had string lights and heaters running throughout, so you could not get cold despite the rain! Will definitely be returning again soon.
A. s.
Lovely food with good sized portions, friendly staff, good amount of parking, not sure how you get there if you were to walk though.
K. B.
Stopped off for a drink here & looking at the food coming out from the kitchen we will definitely be heading back for a meal at some point. Lovely staff and surroundings.
M. M.
I telephoned to make a booking, as they were busy I left a message on their answering machine asking if I could book a table for the following day, I left my phone number but failed to leave my name. About an hour later the phone rang and it was Franco from the horse and jockey confirming my reservation. Next day when we arrived we were greeted by a gentleman who showed us to a table. The server came with menus and took our drinks order. We were perusing the menu which was quite broad with an extensive range. The drinks arrived and we placed our order,we knew that it may take time as it was extremely busy, but when our food arrived it was worth the wait. I would certainly be back and I would recommend it. The staff excellent, customer service excellent. I can't find fault. Brilliant place.
E. O.
First time been back here for many a year having been previously very disappointed under a previous ownership. Had a very nice Sunday lunch.
S. W.
Now reopening under new management, the place is immaculate and smartly refurbished. Menu is an interesting mix of pub grub, italian influence and a few unusual/interesting choices (Jamaican salad!). The Chicken Florentine was excellent, I had a burger and it was rather good!! Atmosphere was nice, and the staff were super friendly.
Edit: any reviews dated pre 2nd-July are for the *old* management.
S. L.
Just back from a fantastic meal at The Horse and Jockey. Amazing food with friendly staff. Tracey couldn't have done more for us. Our 2 daughters (age 8 & 10) loved their meal and the service. Franco went above and beyond for me and my family and we would highly recommend. The outside area is simply beautiful and very covid safe!! If I could give above 5 star I would!
M. P.
What an amazing place to eat. Had some fabulous fresh food here. Service was fantastic, with really helpful and polite team looking after us.
My daughter had a beautiful Spaghetti Carbonara, which she loved.
Will definitely be back here.
C. L.
Absolutely amazing staff and fantastic atmosphere as well as the food being a knockout! wouldn't hesitate coming back again!
J. D.
Beautiful country pub, with a warm welcoming, old school pub feel. Lovely ales on tap, incredible food and lovely friendly staff. Truly wonderful. Will be back.
A. L.
The best covid friendly dining experience in the Southampton and New Forest area. They have a large timber barn covered with perspex and kitted out with patio heaters. The tables are well spaced and with no doors, there is always a good flow of air. On top of that the staff are really helpful, the food is delicious and the ambience excellent. Gluten free, Vegetarian and Vegan options are all available. A great place that more people should know about!
j. b.
Great pub, great food, HUGE 'outdoor' seating area. Only drawback is busy road close by. There is a lovely walk along the Hamble close by.
L. G.
Great service, good reasonably priced food..top pub quiz
J. S.
Friends held their wedding reception here. The food was very nice and huge portions. Attentive landlord. The staff worked flat out - there was also another reception and a 40th birthday celebration happening. I will definitely go here again
G. R.
Great outdoor space, friendly staff and excellent food.
L. k.
Lovely place and excellent food! 😊 We'll definitely be back!
B. M.
Really great food. Amazing hosts. Will definitely be back again soon!
G. M.
Great food & fantastic staff,a 10 out of 10
C. M.
Had a great night out here last night! 18 nurses for 1st social since lockdown so much needed! 😁 Great food & service, sat on comfy chairs outside covered area ( the stage) & though it was heavy rain, we were lovely & dry! Fab for large groups! 😀
P. G.
The first day after a considerable lockdown and what a wonderful surprise. A purpose built outdoor seating area, with attentive waitresses including the pub landlady.
This will be a very desirable venue for locals and visitors alike, and I and my party will definitely be back.
J. Q.
Lovely food, nice setting and attentive staff x
J. B.
Never been before but very friendly staff, the food looked good, we didn't eat, but very nice experience
S. W.
Great Sunday lunch in a lovely pub. Service is great and the outdoor covered space is well used. Look forward to visiting again.
J. L.
As usual excellent food, dropped in without a booking, although it was midweek early evening. Sat outside in the gazebo area, no flies or bugs, lovely service and smiles. What more can I say.
L. G.
Very good food, very good service.
Beautiful outside seating area.
Fantastic menu choice and quality at a reasonable price.
Very highly recommended
M. R.
We had a beautiful drink at the horse and jockey. So good we came back on our paddle boards for another one!
m. t.
God service lovely food affordable prices. Well worth the trip.
K. L.
Fantastic staff. Really friendly and attentive. Great menu and delicious fish and chips.
U. M.
Lovely spot by the river, covered seating area excellent. Was disappointed with the food - ordered a burger and received something very ‘weatherspoons’. Real shame because other people’s food looked lovingly prepared with quality ingredients, but not mine 😔
T. B.
All in all a good first experience when my daughter came to visit. Bar staff particularly friendly but tell the new chef to serve the chicken chabatta warm as was a little dry being cold
B. A.
A lovely pub by the river with a rustic, covered seating area and bar & tables by the bank. Very nice food and decent parking - will definitely be going back!
C. C.
Lovely lunch, the staff could not have been any more helpful. My grandchildren and daughter in law have dietary requirements and the chef even came out to discuss with us. Everything was fresh and very tasty.
Would recommend to anyone who enjoys freshly cooked food.
C. H.
Been here before - but now they have an outside bar (2020). Looks like it has seats, protection from rain and Comedy nights.
They still have seats and small tables right by the water.
A. N.
I had a booking yesterday, food was gorgeous, venue observed good covid restrictions (well done), I will recommend the duck menu ( well done chef) . Fish and chips brilliant the poach fish one was cold, overall we emjoyed and we recommend this venue ! Good luck , hope our local pub will bounce back after such a challenging year (pandemic)
C. B.
Went paddleboarding from here, parking is now for patrons only, that was OK as we went for a meal afterwards, staff happy and friendly, we had a main meal and thinking of dessert afterwards but meal was so nice and very filling we couldn't manage anything else. Seating was all outside where they have made a big marquee, covid safe. Would definitely recommend to others.
C. W.
Amazing food, beautifully cooked and super accommodating and friendly staff. Recently went to their outside space and it has been the best outside dinning experience I have had in the current restrictions.
J. R.
My first visit to this pub and I will definitely be returning. The set up outside is perfect during these difficult times. Staff were friendly and the food was lovely.
A. H.
Great covered outdoor seating. Well spaced out tables. Staff didn't lean over table when serving. All well done! Food was quite nice too. Well done.
T. O.
Amazing food and very pleasant staff members. It was our first visit but definitely not the last.
K. S.
Love the outside seating area. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and did a marvellous job. Will definitely be returning!
K. T.
Went here for my son-in-law 40th birthday last night. The staff, food and venue were excellent. We were socially distanced on tables where we were in our own bubbles. We were very well looked after and I would highly recommend this to anyone if you are having some sort of party. Thank you to the team in these difficult times
A. B.
Lovely food, which although quite pricey, is worth the money and the staff were very friendly. The reason I have not given it the full five stars, which it would have deserved, is that although booked our table wasn't ready. This meant we ordered extra drinks from the bar ( we usually just have a bottle of wine, at the table). Once we had chosen our meals, we were informed it it would take a while and it was suggested we have some bread & olives while we waited (we don't usually have a starter). All in all the delays put quite a bit on the final bill. So although I would recommend & go back again, I couldn't give five stars this time.
S. M.
Food was lovely, service was great, heating could have been put on as it was cold whilst eating.
m.
Great pub, delicious food. However the food did take an hour to arrive and it looked like they overbooked during the day due to many cars not being able to find a parking space, despite notices saying they are fully booked
D. M.
Very nice pub. The owners are 1 from Ireland and 1 from Italy. Their food is very well prepared. They organised tables outside and tgere is plenty of space. Very big parking space. The place is amazing in summer time with a lovely path through the woods and a small river.
Many other tables around. Access for disable.
Easy to reach from Botley village or from Whiteley village.
m. p.
Great outdoor seating area, plenty of space, friendly welcome
C. C.
Came on a Friday evening. A little quiet when we arrived around 18.30 but soon filled up. Menu was small, but a good variety of things. Staff were really good and food was even better. We went for the lasagne and tagliatelle with chicken. Very very nice, we will be back 😀
S. P.
Fantastic and safe environment for quality food and great service, facilities are ideal for outdoor dining as been purpose built for all weather's, lovely venue with river access and a nice walk along the riverbank.
G. S.
Absolutely excellent! From service to the food! 10 out of 10. Decor is really nice and very clean. It's so obvious that the food is all home cooked and fresh, best lasagne I've ever had. Will be going back soon I hope!
J. T.
Great covid friendly covered outdoor space (luckily as it rained hard!!!!) Great selection of food, we saw a lot of lovely looking meals go past but selected a very enjoyable selection of nibbles and tapas. Very friendly and professional staff .. and in our case great company 🙄
J. S.
Pleasant environment and very friendly staff. Menu and specials offer excellent range of choices including vegetarian. Traditional pub food and some dishes with an Italian twist. All well presented. Good Fuller's beer and wines by the glass. Our third visit with this management. Will go again for sure.
L. O.
Nice pub salad 🥗 wasn't that good
J. B.
Was torn between four or five stars but being picky I personally like my service a little quicker. Some may be happy taking it easy but it was friendly and there was a good atmosphere. We wouldn't fault the food however. It was very tasty, served hot and there was enough of it. Mrs B loved her Sea Bass and I really enjoyed the veal with Mushrooms. It is great to know we have a venue like this locally and we will definately be returning.
C.
Great pub, great food, friendly staff.
H. L.
Absolutely excellent food, great atmosphere and exceptional service. Well looked after. Would definitely book again. Would recommend to families. Loved the whole experience!
J. B.
Had an amazing function which was catered for in the new outdoor area which has its own bar, large screen and heating. Food was delicious, the staff were really polite and friendly. Highly recommended.
L. P.
Went tonight as they reopened for eating outside. The dining area was amazing and the food excellent. 10/10 would go back. Staff were friendly and fantastic 👏
M. J. H.
We enjoyed our meal inside the restaurant , the food was tasty and plentyful.😋 Staff very friendly and attentive But although the outside seating area has been well thought out, and customers sit socially distanced, inside the restaurant, so many customers were walking in and out and to the toilets without masks on. We all arrived at the place with masks on until we sat at our table. We were told masks weren't necessary inside!
So we were abit disappointed in this .
But we really like it there. Abit confusing to be honest!
E. B.
Fantastic food and atmosphere and managed by great people. Garry and Tony go above and beyond to accommodate and look after their customers and I look forward to our next visit where we will be celebrating our team Christmas lunch in line with all the Covid measures you have in place.
S. S.
Foods expensive but my colleagues really liked it. I hear the tapas is great but I thought it was too expensive for such little portions. I opted for pie of the day as was cheaper than a salad and the pie was nice, mash was cold and lumpy and veg was supposed to be seasonal to which I got red cabbage and 2 small storks of broccoli. The place is more ideal for small appetites and don't mind paying more for a meal.
B. B.
Lovely setting and lovely food. Shame we couldn't sit by the water and have our lunch as its drinks only down there.
A. R.
Lasagne was one of rhe best I have had in a pub
. Very good food
T. H. s.
Was really happy with tonights service and meal.
All the serving staff were super friendly. Would highly recommend the horse and jockey
A. O.
Lovely food and really friendly staff that made us very welcome. We were a party of 17 and we couldn't fault the service.
C. I.
Lovely venue, doing a brilliant job to make the best of distancing rules with large covered outdoor seating area... Just a real shame about that road noise... Don't know what they can do about it really. Food was excellent though!
L. H.
I haven't been in here since it changed hands..
Delicious food 👍, great beer, a friendly welcome,👍 nicely decorated, clean, quality napkins,, and toilet paper!! Great lit outdoor space,, and a post box outside too! (which came in handy! ,,... Shame the council still haven't sorted out the bridge outside leaving only one exit to the car park.. Apart from that great 👍👌 a packed restaurant too!,, speaks for itself 😉👏well done 😁
J.
Great quality food and perfect for family
S. B.
Just had a fantastic meal here. Everything is homemade. The gentleman that owns/runs it was very lovely and welcoming and looked after us so well. The food was super. For anyone who wants a massive but tasty meal I reccomend the double bacon beef burger! The stuffed chicken breast was also fantastic. Location was great being next to the river.
A. K.
It was okay , but expensive I thought. Also my chocolate fudge cake had obviously been freshened up in the microwave. All cream from cake a melted mess on the plate.
G. G.
Great food, lovely pub and great service. Dog friendly which is always a bonus.
C. W.
Fantastic meal and service. Well run, safe and friendly. Enjoyed our first night out this year to celebrate our daughters birthday. Thankyou
J. S.
Really nice meal outside in the undercover seated area, starters were cracking, main meals spot on, beer really good. Pay for what you get 👍
Recommended.

Have visited the Horse and Jockey many times over the years and was interested to see what it was like under new management. We weren't disappointed. It's not the cheapest place for a Sunday lunch, but the food justifies the price. The menu is interesting with all the usual fayre, but with the addition of some good Italian dishes reflecting the new ownership. We would definitely recommend giving the Horse & Jockey a try.
S.
Very popular pub. They have a new outdoor, but under cover, restaurant area. We hadn't booked, so just sat by the river.
J. B.
Perfect stop off on a paddle. Great indoor and outdoor space
N. A.
Really nice pub, great food. Friendly staff. The outside seating is perfect when the sun is out. There's a jetty outside you can canoe up to. We often padle up to there from Hamble and have a few cold ones. Well worth a visit
k. l.
Perfect for a mid kayak meal/drink. Very covid safe with brand new socially distanced outside seating area. Friendly people and nice atmosphere. Will be back on our next paddle
N. T.
Lovely refurb, new menu looks fab! We were there as part of a private party for breakfast and were very pleased with the meat especially - sausages and bacon were very tasty. Looking forward to going back and sampling some of their speciality Italian cuisine one evening soon!
W. M.
Came here with my fiance and my old man who's a grumpy, difficult to please pain in the arse sometimes but my word did you lot do a great job! Immediately welcomed by a warm smile and sat at a lovely table. It's absolutely stunning inside and spotless! The food came out and the portions are huge and down right delicious, definitely go on an empty stomach. The fact that the old man kept going back in for more of his burger, and still couldn't finish it, truly is a testament to how good the food is. I've never heard him say anything more than "it's alright..." But he described the food as "beautiful" and even "perfect"! We'll definitely be back!
C. H.
This pub has been taken over by Marco who used to run a nearby Italian restaurant. If you like great food come to this pub. If you like Italian food come to this pub. The meals we had were spot on, cooked on site, cannot fault it. Best meal out I've had in ages. Prices are fair, main courses were £15-£17 but they also do pub grub. Will be going back again soon.
C. B.
Delicious food and friendly service. Everything possible has been done to make eating here feel covid safe: there is a huge covered outdoor eating area.
M. L.
A real mixed bag.
Really nice and friendly staff, although definitely not enough of them to run such a busy pub. The food really suffers when they are busy, but it’s obvious to see that they are trying to cope with the influx of customers given the recent opening.
With Italian restaurant heritage from some of the team, having run a fantastic restaurant in Locks Heath until recently, the menu offers a combination of pub classics and Italian delights. I feel as if the Italian items on the menu are certainly far more reasonably priced, better prepared, more imaginative and certainly far better presented on the plate. Sadly, the pub classics such as the steaks do not stray far from what can be considered standard “chain pub” food in both imagination and preparation.
Nonetheless, the pub has been beautifully refurbished, friendly staff, alright yet slightly overpriced pub classics contrasted with modern homemade Italian classics.

Myself and 6 very close friends had our Christmas meal here last evening. We had the christmas 3 course menu. And every choice was excellent, freshly cooked and hot. Service was excellent, very attentive and I'm sure there was music in the background but we were so busy talking! We had a great evening, thankyou 🤗
R. (.
Very good meal, served in a well ventilated outdoor covered area. Friendly and helpful servers. Definitely recommend.
C. B.
Start with the negative first I have no signal so am having to use my wife's phone to write this review. Now to the positives this was by far the best food I have tasted everything we ordered was cooked to perfection highly recommended great speedy service polite and happy staff idyllic setting amazing amazing amazing! Thank you
m. m.
Busy day but a great pub.
C. M.
I visited with my parents. The menu was a bit limited but most people should be able to find something on it. The food when it came was ok but not great. The seafood pasta was dry with a definite taste of stock cubes. The other two meals were ok.
S. P.
Recommended by a local Nissan car sales man after purchasing new car. He'll be getting a pat on the back for such a good find.
We luckily got there early as it did start to pack up for a Sunday lunch rush and the outside seating by the river was very busy also.
The Sunday lunch was brilliantly prepared - nice just getting the vegetables on the side, all of which were cooked perfectly, along with the meat.
The deserts were very good, the caramel & chocolate pot being my favourite, and very very sweet.
Well worth finding this pub if you're in the area and enjoying a nice meal.
Next time I'm not driving so I can enjoy a pint of Pride...
N. C.
Nestled by the tidal branch of the river Hamble this building is steeped in history going back hundreds of years. Some fantastic events are recorded in pictures on the walls. The time a whale beached here and locals tried to save it. The old stone bridge. The thatched pub. The flooding. The spaces are under new ownership and they have taken care through out to remove old trip hazards and steps up and down. So it is all on one level and retains the feel of elderly English pub. Pleasant staff take popular British and Italian menu choices plus tapas like squid. Food cooked well and tasty. An enjoyable meal out prices average. Thanks guys keep it up.
S. A.
They have really gone to town on this pub, outdoor, undercover gazebo built incl, lighting and heating, smoking area, SUPERB, would highly recommend this place now. They excelled in their achievements here.
R. P.
Kayaked up the river to The Horse and Jockey, very busy with a variety of boats being launched or stopping for food and drinks. Lovely atmosphere and a very understanding landlord with a specific entrance for the wet ones coming off the water. Staff really enthusiastic and helpful. Defo recommend this one! 👍

Really nice , lovely setting , must go back in the evening . Staff on the ball , dogs welcome ,plenty of parking , definitely going back .______ Went again on a lunchtime , hasn't lost any of its quality , if anything its gained , pity I can't up the rating any more . We had the tapas and it was lovely I had the HSB and it was at least as good as I have ever had .

Cracking evening had once again at The Horse & Jockey.
Franco and his team were as welcoming and accommodating as ever and the food sublime.
Not my first time here and certainly not going to be my last! #toptopplace #6stars

Very nice allways is. Went for sunday roast very nice. Bit skimpy on the beef. Apart from that all good.
H. F.
We were a table of 4 starters of mussels, fish cakes, soup & mozzarella. Mains of veg burger, meatballs & 2 chicken. Desserts of fruit crumble & panna cotta and lovely coffee. Excellent service and a lovely atmosphere.

Have been watching over the months as this has been taken over and refurbished. Obviously popular as since opening the car park has been filled on a regular basis. Booked for lunch today and I think expectations probably spoiled the experience. Quite quiet when we arrived but still waited 15 minutes to place our order. As we ordered a wild mushroom and chicken risotto we were told they had run out.....but it was, and remained, on the blackboard. Then after taking our drinks order we learned they had run out of Peroni......just not our day I guess. Food took about 40 minutes to arrive and was nice but not exciting. Surprised apart from the risotto, which was off, there didn't appear to be another chicken dish available in the mains, tapas or specials menus. To end, the Peroni was left on the bill and as the replacement drinks were cheaper we had to ask for it to be amended. Staff were always polite, food was nice but for us this is probably a one off.
K. P.
Nice pub, dog friendly section. Sunday lunch - had the pork and it looked as if they had scraped up the offcuts, very small portion of meat. Tasted ok. Could do better, service fine.
L. H.
Excellent food, menu choices, friendly staff & first class service. Have returned several times for lunch & never been disappointed.
Great pub which has a dog friendly area inside.
E. P.
We had a baguette and ordered chips as a side for £1.50 extra each, there weren't very many chips. Also we ordered a sausage for our dog, which took ages to come, we had already eaten our meal before it came, even though we asked 2 members of staff. The baguettes were good though.
B. C.
Much better food than you get at most local pubs in the area. Could not fault the service and quality of the food. Visited in a group of 6 and had a lovely evening.
I. C.
Good pub. Very expensive. Could be a little more accommodating for those coming off the river. One of the bar staff should practice smiling once and a while. They've spent a lot of money on improving is appearance and it's looking great.
K. C. (.
Very accommodating to our hen party, excellent service. Good covid-safe environment, food was delicious. Will visit again
A. F.

C. U.
Very nicely done up - not been there for a while but new set up is good. Only had a coffee but plan to eat there soon following several recommends. The good weather complemented the ambiance of the place but prob just as good in mis winter with a roaring fire going ...........
I. R.
Excellent welcome, lovely food and service. The tide was in so the river was beautiful. Totally professional
A. M.
Two years since I last visited Horse & Jockey so there has been a change of Landlord and a refurbishment of the restaurant. Location does not change! Delightful place particularly on a sunny day when one can sit beside the River Hamble. Inside clean and pleasant, friendly and helpful staff and delicious food. We will be back soon!
M. O.
This is a really nice stop off point on for a drink and a bite to eat. Staff are always friendly, really good outdoor facilities with new dining area. Well worth a visit.

Family Fairies and Food
Our Son and family were here on holiday from Australia and our Daughter arranged for the family
consisting of grandchildren and great grandchildren to visit the fairy wood followed by lunch at the Horse and Jockey. We had an enjoyable slow walk but I must emphasise that this is not suitable for
pushchairs, wheelchairs or even partially disabled persons. Boots or very stout shoes are a must.
The path is quite narrow and covered with tree roots, some of which are quite hazardous. There are many patches of quite deep mud.
The National Trust who own the land have laid a couple of board walks which are very helpful. When we visited we had not seen rain for a number of days making it clear that it was permanently muddy in places. Upon reaching the fairy tree it was a treat to see the delight on the children’s faces. Full marks to whoever tends this.
As I stood watching I began to think how sad it was that children in wheelchairs would never see this. We managed as one child was in a front sling and another aged two walked or could be carried if needed.
We returned feeling hungry and ready for our lunch at the Horse and Jockey. Our table was ready.
There were eleven adults and two high chairs. The service was quick and efficient with friendly Staff.
Meals were hot and very well presented with varied vegetables making a most enjoyable end to our visit. Thank you to everyone. Will obviously recommend and come again.

Nicely presented, good quality food. I asked at the bar for something Pimms like and the Barman produced a tall glass filled with a selection of small fruits, ice and a generous quantity of Pimms topped with soda. Most enjoyable.
P. B.
Lovely pub and food but the guy sat at the entrance constantly answering the phone needs an office . Was well enoying listening to through our whole meal.

S. W.
Went there for a wake, waited an hour & half for the food to come out, which I thought was pretty bad, when it did it was good, then when we left we got accused of not paying for an extra drink that wasn't ours...cheek
