Reviews of The White Swan, Southampton
B. A.
Lovely place we were served by hannah who was absolutely lovely and so.friendly ! Thank you 😊 will be back again soon 🙏
M. S.
First time there for a long time, due to Covid. Restaurant was very busy (Sunday lunch) but the waitress was smiling and helpful.
Lovely tender meat, with a good selection of vegetables and delicious dessert. Will be going back. Recommend booking first.
J. M.
Honestly really surprised by just how good the carvery was! Had the steak and ale pie which was full of big chunks of steak in a rich gravy. Veg was fresh and the parsnips were amazing! Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy a roast.
h. V.
Came for the unlimited breakfast and was not disappointed. Very impressed with the service, food was amazing! Buffet breakfasts don't usually appeal to me but everything tasted fresh was cooked well and regularly replenished. Great value for money and will definitely be returning 😁

Went to the white Swan for lunch today. Arrived at 12 noon and car park was nearly full (always a good sign). Found a table outside overlooking the river. Food ordered and served within 15 mins despite the large number of customers. A delicious meal, very well priced. Something for everybody on the menu. A first class experience and we will return for sure. Thoroughly recommended!!!

I visited with a friend and his uncle on a Saturday afternoon. This vegetarian opted for a meatless carvery.
I was surprised to see that there were no labels on the two types of roast potatoes, etc and the vegetable selection left a lot to be desired.
Also, I need to make a special mention for the Karen who decided to have a moan at me for "getting too close" to her at the carvery. If that's your concern then perhaps, don't leave your house, Love.
Despite this, staff were friendly and welcoming.
A. F.
Lovely pub on the river. Buffet breakfast well worth the money. Staff are friendly and helpful, a swan kept nearby on the river, All round clean and although near to main roads its quiet and family friendly.
c. m.
We have always loved it here.
The prices are reasonable.
The staff are so lovely too..really helpful as well.
The roast potatoes that are cooked in with the beef are genuinely sublime!!

Been to the White Swan many times for a carvery and its hit and miss depending on when you visit.
We booked a table for 6pm and it wasn't very busy. The meats were mostly dried up and some of the vegetables were as well.
Soon after we got our food it started to get busier and the containers were replaced. Nevertheless the choice of vegetables wasn't like it used to be.
We still had a good meal but were a bit disappointed as we went with family who were visiting from the USA to show them what a carvery was like.
S. S.
Very welcoming, nice food. Great value set lunch menu. Service a bit slow as it was not busy. Nice location by the river.

Amazing and friendly service! Food was unreal and couldn’t have been any better.
Jayne was our server and she always come to the table with a smile and made our Easter roast something to enjoy.
D. H.
Well worth visiting this place. Have tried the breakfast and lunch. Really nice and well presented, with really helpful, cheerful staff too. Much much better than the Riverside in Bishopstoke with much more friendly staff. There is no comparison, this place is light airey well laid out place, although slightly more expensive but well worth the extra. I would definitely recommend it. Try for yourself, you will not be disappointed, as there is seating by the river on a nice day and dogs are welcome too.
J. T.
The food was brilliant, especially the beef dripping roast potatoes 🤤. The staff were really friendly and helped us save a bit of money. We went for a late lunch/early breakfast and I fully expected everything to be dry having been under a heat lamp all day, however everything was lovely and moist.
m. t.
I stopped off here for a full breakfast selective breakfast of your own choice .very good staff excellent chefs. pay stay car park plenty of parking free if you use the White Swan. next to a great picturesque river with moorhens and otters.
j. n.
Been down a few times recently with the family and the food is always awesome, Its nice to have a different range of veg alongside the usual favourites, the boys love the mac and cheese with thier carvery and the staff are always really helpful. Highly recomend. Much better than Toby!
A. L.
Popped in after walk for a bite to eat. Friendly atmosphere, plenty of outdoor seating and nice food. Good service. Thank you
B. S.
Enjoyed our evening, a very good venue to dine with friends.
Nicely decorated for the Christmas period. The dining area was very clean and tables cleared promptly.Staff were excellent.
Enjoyed the carvery, a slight criticism was that the vegetables could have been hotter. I can appreciate that it can be difficult to judge the numbers of customers at anytime , but it did seem that there was an excess of vegetables prepared too early when there was just a few customers at the time of our visit.
We will be returning and would recommend the White Swan.
L. H.
Had a lovely family meal at The White Swan. The carvery was delicious all cooked to perfection. The meals from the main menu were also really tasty. All left empty plates.Definate value for money in a friendly, relaxed but professional local pub.

First visit to The white Swan and we will be back.
Excellent carvery and desert , great value for money.
Service was fantastic.
We will be going back.
R. r.
My steak was VERY dry, not helped by only having English mustard or a blue cheese sauce on offer (I prefer French mustard & hate blue cheese). My "onion rings" were a massive clump of batter (more than one of the party had exactly the same!), instead of separated, which spoilt them & the veg was most definitely overcooked!
The pie, that another member of our party had, was 90% pastry and a horrible non description filling which tasted more like grule!
We didn’t end up with the table we had specified, as the "previous booking has overran".
The table we ended up on was right beside a speaker which was blaring out really loud music throughout which meant one of our party had to turn off her hearing aids as the music overpowered any & ALL voices - except for the shrieking children's voices from the table opposite.
Had we had the original table, as requested, we would have been isolated from all the external overpowering noise, which would have made the occasion more pleasant.
This is our second disappointing meal here, so we'll be finding somewhere else for future occasions.
J. S.
Food isn't as good as it used to be. Had the carvery but the server was really tight with the amount of meat he cut and served. Not as much selection of vegetable. Overall I felt that it was far from being as good as it was in previous years.
J. P.
This was my first visit. What can I say?
Excellent food with first rate service.
I will definitely be going back.
Second visit on my birthday - the food was equally as good, it definitely lived up to expectations!
H. H.
Jo our waitress was very attentive and helpful. The food which was served by Steve was plentiful and delicious. I was very impressed.
J. S.
The carvery was amazing we had a 40th and 42nd birthday meal and are waitress Rose was absolutely amazing she couldn't do enough for us we were a table of 12couldnt wish for more
S. P.
Delicious food. Had a carvery. Excellent service and friendly staff
M. J.
Came here specially for a coffee with my partner and our dog as the staff are always so friendly and the atmosphere is so laid back. Been a few times now and enjoy it
M. G.
Food was good, Sunday carvery, would liked to have a bit more space between tables, but small point and it didn't affect us too much
J. O.
Lovely exsperience today, great food really enjoyed the carvery. Staff were lovely and understanding. Had a lovely chat to one of the staff members at the carvery stand who was cheerfull.
Thanks 👍
A. L. M.
Had a lovely meal with my family today, couldn't ask for a better service,Simon was great.food was lovely and staff very friendly.Thank you.
K. G.
Great food friendly place to visit
A. B.
Lovely country-like restaurant, very friendly management, and pretty good food by a beautiful riverside spot.
J. M.
Great place to meet up with family and friends. Staff were friendly and the food was yummy had a Yorkshire wrap 👍
J. H.
Very friendly staff, provided a lovely buffet and we're so helpful through booking to the day.
C. T.
Do you like homemade roast dinner? Look no further from prices starting at £5.99 (check nearest Toby Carvery to you) and you can munch on giant plates of roast and other similar dishes. The food is tasty, very filling and the price if you time it right is extremely cheap for main course and dessert. You dont need a starter here people! Save your monies for drinks or desserts! If you can fit it in of course.
Service was good, and when seated the waitresses were prompt. Its a self serve basis for the roasts but anything ordered from the menu and not out front will be from the kitchen so expect a short wait for those. However i would probably recommend booking on a sunday, and on special offer days because it gets really busy here in the White Swan in Southampton. There is a large bar area, seating, fire and a tv for your pleasure. I would recommend checking this place out. Good food, cheap price!
c.
Wonderful carvery fantastic setting by the river staff very helpful even asking about allergies!!
D. L.
Great carvery for Sunday lunch. Everyone in Southampton knows about this pub so you need to book. There were four meats on offer at the carvery. Everything tasted great. This is perhaps my wife's favourite as she loves it. She goes out once a month with a group of friends. Last year, it was her turn to book their Christmas meal and she chose The White Swan. They all liked it so much - and some can be fussy - they asked her to book it again this year.
UPDATE: The same group ate here last night and it was just as great. We had a private room. The service was great with attentive but not intrusive staff. Most had the carvery which we all enjoyed - everything was piping hot. During the week they offer two courses for £10.99 and there's a smaller menu - I think you need a "Diamond" card which my wife has - with fewer choices for £8.99, but the carvery is included.
A. D.
The venue was lovely. My friend and I had hoped to eat outside, for covid reasons, despite it being a cold December day. We were kindly offered an indoor dining area that was partitioned off with glass doors which we thought was a great idea and we were the only ones in that area.
Staff also informed us that it would become busy so we were forewarned and left before the lunchtime rush.
The food and service were great. Parking is free if you're using the pub but remember to pop your reg number in their machine.
A. C.
Great all you can eat breakfast vast choice and great attentive staff.
M. B.
Lovely Breakfast and plentry of it.
I was taken there for father's day by my son and his family.
E. C.
We came for a lunch time carvery and the food was amazing. The waitress (JAYNE) went above and beyond for us. We will definitely be coming back. Thank you for a lovely experience
A. F.
Eight of us had a really enjoyable, tasty carvery etc today. As well as best carvery had in a long while, staff friendly & helpful also. Will be back soon
A. M.
Arrived on a Wednesday evening having not booked a table, thankfully they opened the big back room for us, which was lovely as we were the only people there. Without a doubt one of the best carvery's I've had in a pub. Great service, fast and efficient with friendly staff. I will be coming back
r. h.
Lovely staff very helpful. Good breakfast lots of choice with the buffer.
P. N.
Lovely place with very friendly and helpful staff members. Rooms are very cozy and breakfast is amazing.
We will come back for sure!
A.
A great place to have our Christmas meal. Area well ventilated felt comfortable with the whole experience. Food lovely ( had carvery)
a. s.
Amazing night, family meal for 2 of my children's birthday today, food was lovely , thankyou Leslie (hope I got your name right) for waiting on our huge table
l. k.
Unfortunately they didn't have our reserved table for us and service in the bar area was practically non existent.
This was in November 2021 and since then we have received 2 threatening letters for £85 parking fees plus costs. Despite telephoning the pub on two separate occasions, I received no assurance that there would be no further action. I tell you what, I won't be darkening their doors again!
L. M.
We've always enjoyed coming here, up until recently. The stuffing has been really overcooked, and on our last visit the vegetables were all cold.
L. w. L. t. D. L.
Lovely setting. Dog friendly. Unfortunately I cannot recommend the carvery: the meat was cut so thinly it crumbled on the plate, the roast potatoes were overcooked, the dauphinois potatoes were so hard I couldn’t get a fork in. The vegetables were unimaginative and it was understaffed. Not a relaxed Sunday lunch.
E. M.
Very cozy place, tasty food and nice prices
Highly recommended
S. R.
Went for the buffet breakfast, probably great for carnivores but limited vege options. Coffee was quite weak also.
N. R.
Excellent service great food all the just lovely xx
t. p.
Seems to have changed hands post covid and is a lot friendlier now!
I had one of the best pies here, and you get to select carvery veg with it which is awesome as I could pick the exact quantities of trimmings I liked.
M. N.
Sunday lunch , midday booking greeted by happy waitress ,drinks, meal and service really good.Thank you.
g. o.
Great place to have a meal with the family, service was excellent, food was amazing, was looked after by Holly who was a Diamond
s. s.
We had the cavery and it exceeded all expectations, absolutely delicious. Staff very friendly and helpful Great place.
c.
Nice riverside pub serves carvery. Function room also available. Couple of real ales on tap.
J.
Had a great Sunday roast dinner with all the trimmings
Definitely recommend
A. F.
Nice breakfast in front of the Itchen. Good value, loved the fried potatoes, great location.
S. L.
Very helpful staff and a very good meal, the waitress was very good with a bit of banter, will definitely be back
C. B.
Was a good place for breakfast however for an all you can eat breakfast I would prefer it to be available to collect yourself. I suffer with pretty bad anxiety so asking a waitress what I want for breakfast was super daunting for me. The waitress was very good at making the process easier however I feel my experience would have been better if it was self serve.
Condiments on table were dirty and quite off putting for myself.
K. B.
Lovely meal. Accommodating staff. Will return next month.
N. B.
Great food and service. Good idea about the car park sign in car reg inside
A. L.
We come here often for a Sunday carvery. The food and service is always good.
V. C. T.
An amazing pub with very good food and a lot of beers to choose from. By the river the fellings you get while enjoying your beer or food is more than perfect for someone who loves listening to the water flow the birds and the pure nature. It is definitely a place you have to visit if you want to escape from the city and what makes it more attractive is the fact that it is in a really close distance . A hidden gem I could say.
A. W.
Cosy pub ,food looked lovely being served, though we didn,t eat, busy for a friday lunchtime, staff friendly.lots of old photo,s of times past there.we used to come here as kids with our parents,so brought back happy memories.
A. P.
Nice food in a lovely setting by the river. Dog friendly too.
L. M.
Good size portions, quality food, amazing price and good service
H.
Burgers were amazing but the bacon was slightly undercooked. Toilets weren't clean
L. R.
Had a lovely waiter. Lovely experience
L. G.
Best carvery I've ever had, food quality is outstanding, and service excellent. Top marks all round.
E. B.
A lovely pub, good service, friendly staff, and food is excellent ❤️
N. B.
Breakfast is all you can eat. Food excellent. Service friendly. Good value.
L. P.
Great carvery at the white swan. It's Not a Toby, its better! Lovely river views through windows, staff excellent.
S. J.
The food was good really enjoyed that, the only thing that let the place down, was no lock on the toilet door, and toilet seat was hanging on by one bracket, had to move into position to be able to use the loo
j. b.
Always nice to walk along the river then sit here next to the river with good food and drinks
l. c.
Big pub right next to the river itchen with a seperate restaraunt, very friendly, came here for dinner as we were in the area, it was very quiet for a friday night and the menu seemed a little pricey but they had a carvery on for £9 so we had a very relaxing (and filling) meal, and a quick drink at the bar, prices might be a bit steep but I think on a summers day this pub would be heaving considering the atmosphere, and location.
C. S.
Carvery meat very good well cooked and tender. Experience spoiled by fact that vegetables were only luke warm. Service was slow. Had to find waitress to get desert menu and find waitress again to order desert. Altogether disappointing experience
M. B.
Enjoyed a all day breakfast, staff quickly out with umbrellas when it rained
A. R.
Always enjoy the carvery, great choice of vegetables too.
s. k.
Nice pub in a great location and reasonably priced drinks
I've had food here several times before and it's always been good
It's just a pity about the metal flood barrier by the river!
It could surely be replaced with see through heavy duty perspex so you could sit in the garden and actually look at the river.
Still well worth a visit!
M. F.
Always welcoming and efficient. Service is perfect everyone is happy to help. Great location by the river, beer garden gets the best views. Inside is clean modernish décor. Large car park which is free to pub users, enter your reg in the computer in the pub during your visit and that's it. Food is good pub food, with a great carvery. One suggestion is to relocate the vast number of bins from the front left of the pub, they slightly ruin an otherwise lovely building.. plus in hot weather they stink! Other than that it's all great and look forward to visiting again, especially as wheelchair accessible for my very old (and mildly rude) grandmother!
D. M.
Nice pub with good food and honest prices. A lovely path goes around the woods. You can also fishing in the near river.
G. P.
Had a fantastic vegetarian breakfast this morning which was cooked to perfection. it even looked amazing on the plate. it was the BoHo breakfast with the spinach. Minor criticism, the spinach could do with being wilted but none the less it was amazing.
I was served by the wonderful Tracy who is just the person you need to see in the morning, cheerful, smiling and attentive. Full marks to the breakfast team.
N. R.
Booked a table, nice food, and very friendly staff.
M. H.
Decided at the last minute to pop into the Swan, they were able to offer us a table for two without any wait, brilliant service considering it was a Saturday and after 5pm. Had a great meal, the staff were lovely.
D. P.
Lovely carvery on a Sunday. Great service. Didn't book till last minute and they found a place for us.
s.
Couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Allowed to park m/home overnight in car park, and wonderful bacon butties in the morning. Really hope this pub continues its success, it fully deserves to. Massive thanks to Chris and his team.
O. B. N. Z.
A real gem! Delicious food, generous portions, fairly quick service and amazing views siting right on the river. Prices are very affordable too
S. M.
Lovely place to go to eat and really nice people Lovely place in the summer to go and have a drink and lovely food would really recommend this place !!! However just been back to the White Swan tonight which is the 8th of March and this is what happened First thing that I noticed is that they seem to be short of staff because what seem to be the manager was rushing around like a headless Chicken 🐔 not only that but the kitchen staff didn't seem to have a clue how to run there kitchen Because not only did the Carvery run out of food but my partner is Gluten free and they told her that the Gluten free gravy was ready So we went up to get our Carvery and my partner went and sat down ' without her gravy that meant that her food was getting cold So I spoke to the manager and it appears that her Gravy was still in the kitchen which was then taken out to her but also the trays of Carvery food that should have been full of roast potatoes and other foods were infact empty So we had to wait for them to get our food (( Very lacks and needs to be fixed
But despite that we still had a very nice time and all be it eventually ? Lol The food was quite nice 👌
So will see what happens next time a Watch this space 🤔
Stan
K. B.
Excellent atmosphere and the beer was good too. Quite poplar.
T. W.
Food was ok, although the roast potatoes were not very good, very mushy.
N. H.
Nice pub on the River Itchen, large restaurant with a daily carvery, brunches, and good menu for bar meals. Plenty of beers and lagers to choose from. Large car park, but register your number plate because there is a change for non-customers.
L. P.
Nice for a carvery, great roasties & good vegetables. BUT you haven't told people about your new parking & to put your number plate in. So your sending fines to people who ate with you. Regardless they won't be paid as we can show you bank statement proofing we ate with you. Also caesar salad was just leaves & cheese. I did ask for bacon you didn't, anchovies & dressing? Nope none. Used to be 4 stars but last visit disappointing.
F. C.
Can thoroughly recommend this place, the food (especially the Carvery) is excellent and good value for money. The staff are very friendly and looked after us well.
Lovely setting
Plenty of parking
Lost a star for the state of the toilets!
S. T.
Tasty carvery. Nicely cooked meat. Enormous Yorkshires. Crowded on a Sunday lunchtime. But then it would be! Prefer mid week and quieter.
k. m.
All you cant eat breakfast 6.99....yes please great food, two young ladies who served us very polite, helpfull and professional. Food is tasty and the hash&cheese&onion creation well thats abit of alright!!! N kids 3.97 yes im coming back!!
A. P.
Great breakfast, really good value for money, staff are always super friendly and helpful 👍
d. b.
Service was great.....found it expensive for Sunday roast. Would definitely go midweek
C. B.
Very very nice and tasty food staff pleasant and helpful
G. A.
Went for breakfast for the first time. Very pleased with the service, staff and food available. Buffet breakfast with all the usual items but also some different and inspired offerings. Would recommend
R. M.
Nice and relaxing having drinks by the river and then after a stroll along the river a delicious evening meal. A varied menu and carvery available. Polite and friendly staff.
H. A.
Good breakfast today at the White Swan. Good service from the staff. They ran out of baked beans, no more available, and the milk ran out for the coffee (quickly replenished), hand sanitizer before the carvery/breakfast deck, but not at the coffee and tea area. So not 5 stars, but very good.
G. P.
Friendly staff. Carvery was OK for the money. On the edge of a lovely park so you can build up an appetite on the way.
R. R.
Really nice carvery would definately go again
A. D.
Good carvery, can opt for larger portions with the kingsize option. Could still serve more meat but vegetables and trimmings are always in good supply.
K. E.
such a good meal, and a waitress, Jane, who was attentive and great.
A. S.
I like this venue, its always a good place to drink and eat. Its a good carvery. the waiting staff are good and 90% of the time you can get served quickly at the bar.
The carvery staff are quick but i do feel that a good carvery is always better when you have a chef with a big loud personality to go with it. The Chefs I have seen seem to be young and shy.
The regular menu is has a big selection for all diets and they cover all the usual allergies and Vegan/Veggie requirements.
Lovely views, especially in the summer with a river side deck/patio. The place is a fair size and on busy days/nights it has a great ambiance about it.
4 Starts because i think some very small improvements on customer service and refreshing food on the carvery could make this place an amazing place to come rather than a good place to come.
T. M.
Just a J2O by the river but nice and peaceful 🍹
D. C.
great food at sensible price staff were friendly too. it's definitely changed a lot for the best
M. P.
Nice food friendly staff good beer
D. (.
Very busy but welcoming staff and good food
L. H.
Lovely to sit out in the sun but even though adjacent to the river your view is completely obscured unless you stand up. Pity they didn't install see through flood panels. The staff are very pleasant.
O. S.
Good selection of breakfast items on the all you can eat.
L. W.
Really friendly staff. Great carvery.
d. a. p. j.
Very good food service was amazing nice n polite staff couldn't fault nothing remembered why u were my favourite carvery x
A. H.
Much better than last time must have new chefs
G. M.
Certainly picked up after our last visit many moons ago , will come back
J. R.
This was everything a Carvery should be. We were served quickly. There was an excellent choice of well cooked vegetables, and the food was hot. The staff could not have been more helpful and the atmosphere was relaxing. It was a very enjoyable outing.
The menu had a good choice for those who didn't want the carvery, and the dessert menu was brilliant.
M. S.
Went for lunch, having heard good reports of their carvery...We were not disappointed !...really good food, good service and reasonably priced. Shall visit again 👍
H. M.
Welcoming. Breakfast carvery is scrumptious, though arrive early. full all day.
R. C.
Nice place let down by the room, badly needs to be redecorated and updated
D. G.
Great carvery Gluten Free no problems the kitchen will make you your own gravy . Staff really helpful and polite. All in all excellent.
D. B.
Nice spot by the picturesque River itchen. Good service and lovely food.
Had read mixed reviews beforehand. Each to their own I suppose and depends upon personal experience. It has had its ups and downs and a change of ownership.
A couple of items were off the menu but that is generally a measure of their success.
Six of us were eating and from a varied palate. I had carvery. Waiter was very attentive throughout and timed my heading off for the carvery to perfection as when I returned to take my seat the other mains were coming out. No complaints from anyone and plates were empty. Will return.
L. F.
Hi,we love this restaurant.Carvery is great but one criticism we have is food on a cold plate. So much nicer to have your carvery on a medium hot plate so as when you are in the middle of eating it's not cold.Other than that fantastic place, fantastic food + staff.
J. M.
Went for the lunch time carvery and it was wonderful food. The staff was super helpful with my elderly in laws who both walk with canes. They made sure we had a conveniently located table and made sure they didn't have to carry plates back to table from the carvery.
Made a return trip to the lunch carvery with the in laws and it was spectacular service again. Keep up the good work.
M. C.
I was delivering equipment to the site however from what I saw of the placeand the people I spoke to, they were friendly and helpful
T. R.
Excellent service, lovely food, great value
C. D.
Amazing atmosphere, gorgeous carvery best we have ever had! Staff are absolutely lovely and polite. Definitely will be returning!
S. F.
Holly was server today and she was lovely thank you Holly 😊
M. B.
Great roast dinner, you ask, the chef piles it on your plate, waitress brings it to the table. The stuffing was super tasty I know that's not the main part of the meal but well worth a mention.
Worth all of the £8.29
H. B.
Lovely food, wonderful staff, great pub. Can't ask for more than that. They even made sure our dog was cared for too. Fantastic 10/10
z. z.
Love the view of the river (and close flying plane 😄) while eating. Food-wise I only tried the carvery, really good.
L. B.
Had a table next to the river, was so nice. They got us a parasol as it was really hot. The customer service was 10/10, all the servers were genuinely lovely and helped in any way they could. The food was delicious!
K. H.
We recently visited the White Swan on 2 consecutive days. The food was, on the whole, delicious and it is dog friendly which is great. Unfortunately the difference between Friday lunch and Saturday lunch was vast. It was busier on the Saturday but even still the food took much longer than is acceptable. It wasn't helped by watching at least 2 of the kitchen staff in the bar area chatting & wandering about when it was so busy! We ordered treacle sponge for pudding but it didn't arrive & we had to ask again for it. When it finally arrived it was lukewarm and the custard was stone cold. Such a shame. They are advertising for staff, so maybe they have a staffing problem, but an explanation would have been appreciated. My daughter also asked for pork both days but was told on Saturday they rarely do it even though it's on the menu. All that being said, it is a lovely country pub on the riverbank and the food we did have was delicious.

Lovely breakfast. Good price aswell

Went for a roast today with a friend service was good food was good meat portions were very poor, paid extra for the large roast ie more meat and barely had a full slice of meat! Disappointed
A. E.
Nice place for a drink during a walk along Itchen Valley.

Went for a carvery on Sunday.
We got there and the friendly waitress showed us to our seats.
The woman who served us was very helpful and friendly, got us our drinks quickly.
We went up to get our carvery, food was delicious!
The only thing that could of improved was you pay £9.99 for this and we only received a small amount of meat.
Overall a nice experience, i would go again.

Could have been better on Carvery, food was falling off carvery area at front of counter and not being cleaned up, vegetables ran out a number of times and only refilled when requested in my opinion a chef should have been keeping an eye on the counter, the sauce & gravy area looked untidy, the service at table was good as was the carvery meats.
V. S.
I make a special effort to come with a colleague for their lunches. Go for carvery. Great staff. Register your vehicle when you come.
G. C.
Nice location with pleasant staff and surroundings. Good selection of food for all tastes. 12 4 22 very quiet guess increased bills and covid playing a part in keeping people away
M. R.
Love having lunch there, lovely food and people
R. F.
Wish Pork had been available as website advertised was told available tomorrow, no good to us. Also quite a few desserts were not available, as it was only 1.30 I think more stock required of popular desserts.
C. P.
Absolutely fantastic the service is of top notch, 5 star rating for service and venue. Will definitely see THE WHITE SWAN again. Love love this place. We'll done👍👍👍👌👌👌❤️❤️❤️❤️
A. M.
It's a nice place and popular, the carvery looked really good but went for menu instead. Sadly the choice I chose was not cooked well, cremated more than edible should have complained but as friends bought my meal didn't want to embarrass. Chefs walked through later and really didn't inspire confidence in returning soon.
L. D.
Wonderful selection of beer and ale on tap. Fab for a catch up, Christmas meal, Sunday roast or even date night. Staff are attentive and, unlike most places, don’t forget about you if you’re a couple!
I’ve been here for the Christmas meals and even Sunday roasts with my friends and would highly recommend. I couldn’t fault them as my food on these occasions has been a good temperature and there has been plenty of options to choose from too.
R. C.
Staff were welcoming, nice table and good menu. The starter was good and served quickly. Sadly the carvery was mediocre, lack of meat choice, waited for vegetables, some of which were tepid and the plates were cold. Chefs appears somewhat disinterestedly! These shortfalls were mentioned to our waitress who apologized and even checked the server heaters which had failed !! Waitress advised us next time to dig deep into veg as they may be warmer near the bottom!!

Excellent value for money and beautiful setting and grounds over looking fishing river at Mansbridge. The white Swan is relaxing and has plenty to offer with s nice atmosphere and service. Food highly recommended with nice bar and dining area with dining annex over looking river at back of pub. They also offer a generous carvery at the restaurant. Well worth a visit and good for families.
R. P.
Always a great carvery. Staff are very accommodating and helpful
c. m.
We were really impressed last Friday when four of us ate here
The food, especially the sea bass, was divine!
The service was second to none..thank you
J. V.
Always clean, the bathrooms are in good nick and nice. The food for the carvery is outstanding. The atmosphere is brilliant and the river view is lovely. This pub/ restaurant is a great place to eat and drink. We will walk a great distance to come here.
S. G.
Always love the carvery here
J. S.
A very good carvery - particularly on a Sunday. Very good value and they offer 20% discount if you're a member of the AA.
They serve a large menu in addition to the carvery and that is also nice. However, as this is probably one of the best carverys around, I'd recommend going with that.
There is sometimes a wait if you haven't booked on a Sunday. But there's a nice bar area, often with the football on while you're waiting.
s. b.
Cracking food but suffers with flooding as they are located right on the edge of the river. Fabulous food and polite fun staff. Well worth visiting and highly recommended.
D. W.
Conveniently located on River. Good beers on offer Inc Timothy Taylor's. Efficient and friendly staff. Carvery meats were great. Vegetables past their best. Good portion sizes of everything. Broken lock in loos and no hand sanitizer let the experience down.
T. T.
Great value, quality food.

We had a meal for 6 for my husband's 50th birthday and it couldn't have gone better. Fantastic food and the Assistant Manager who served us was great. She knew exactly that we were up for a laugh and simply joined in. Food arrived hot and within a good time. Great service, long may it continue.
We will be booking you again in the near future for our daughters 18th birthday.
Well done.

Lovely breakfast and wonderful staff
R. P.
Popped in for a drink after a walk along the river, it turned out to be a hidden gem. Lovely pub and outdoor seating area. I ended up having a Yorkshire pudding sarnie, it's probably the best sandwich I've had in a long time. I'll definitely be coming back for a proper dinner at some point.
S. C.
Really nice friendly atmosphere, lovely carvery and a delicious gooey chocolate cake for pudding! Yummy!! 😋
S. E. A.
Best carvery in Southampton hands down, and even better when the sun's out as there is seating on the Riverside. Great to watch the river birds go by
S. F.
My dad and I had the beer battered fish with chips, peas and tartar sauce . it was lovely.Staff were friendly and polite.
M. L.
Staff friendly; food good value -- nine quid for a carvery with a generous serving of pork and all the trimmings you can pile on your plate. Didn't try the beer on this occasion, but there's normally at least one decent real ale. Unfortunately, we saw one waitress pet a dog and then wipe her hands on the cloth she was using to wipe the tables, which was a bit off-putting.
D. M.
The word "WOW" comes to mind. The carvery was perfection. Very happy customer. It has definitely got to be a regular thing. Yums ❤️☺️
D. V.
Popped in for lunch last week and was so good we come back again today. Roast dinner wraps are a bargain and very tasty. Staff are helpful and friendly. Our server (Emma) was very nice and provided great service. Will be back again!
D. S.
Large portion great price and really tasty 😋
W. C.
Lovely food, great service and very good location! Definitely be visiting again!
g. y.
Really enjoy this pub/restaurant. Great staff. Great decor. Right on the river. Carvery is excellent. Spacious, clean and welcoming. Would have given the fifth star but they are continuously a little 'light" on the meat compared to other carverys.
m. w.
Nice breakfast and friendly staff
J. S.
Fantastic. These guys clearly read their reviews and improve when needed. Great customer service and one of my favourite local places to eat.
J. M.
Been here for the carvery a few times. Really very nice food and helpful staff. Only downside is, it's a stand and served at the counters carvery not table service, which isn't great if you're disabled. Also not automatic doors, I wouldn't be able to go here without an escort. It gets very busy so, would suggest to book.
T. G.
Food was great and the pub and restaurant are well decorated, only thing that let it done was the service. The female that looked after us was seemingly in a bad mood and when a member of our party complained that a glass had a scent of a dirty cloth she was told it was fine. Overall I would consider going back as the food was so good but the service was not up to the same standard.
P. E.
Brilliant food wonderful service the river view with the swans are breathtakingly beautiful eat your main walk the river go back have your pud
B. L.
I booked for 29 people for my husbands birthday. We all had a fantastic time. Lovely food. Even though there were a lot of us the service was very professional. And not rushed. We always visit The White Swan as we only live in Mansbridge. It has a very good reputation. Special thanks to our server Shannon. We will definitely book again
K.
Great carvery and loads of veg to choose from and loads of starters and desserts. Sat on a river so nice outside especially in the summer and plenty of parking available. Will always be my favourite place for a roast dinner and recommend to everyone. Staff are lovely and friendly.
D. B.
Nice pub. Service a little slow for 3.00pm on a Friday. I ordered a cheese and red onion sandwich which came with roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, which was almost as odd as the prawn sandwich which came with the same option.
I ordered the sandwich and said I didn't want the potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. The kitchen staff kindly substituted a salad which made more sense. What I couldn't understand was the original menu option nor why a salad option wasn't automatically offered.
Other than that nice to sit by the river in the sunshine
L. K.
OK for stop of quick lunch & drink, their carvery looks good as always Price of drinks is very good 👍🏻 too.
L. J.
Good value well cooked food
J. S.
Nice old pub by the river Itchen with out side tables by the river. Good carvery and a range of other food. Can be a bit noisy popular with young family's with children. Car parking outside. There is a good walk by the river to work off the food.
A. P.
First visit for a while and what a change last time there was a huge wait and the food was not good so different now food was great and the waiting period was very small well done keep up the good work
D. P.
Very lovely place, huge parking-space. I like that there is rooms with different decoration. In mid-day (around 12 o'clock) there is a lot of people so book your table before visiting. But there are always place by the bar. ;) People are very polite and smiley. So cheers!
A. M.
Lovely location which lives up to its name. Staff are polite and helpful. Food is hearty the meat is good and you get what you pay for (in line with mid range restaurants). They offer a good carvery selection and have a nice kids menu.
M. C.
Good food choice on menu including carvery. Staff very attentive. One small criticism of carvery is that the food needs to be kept hotter, all my vegetables were luke warm so by the time I was halfway through my meal some had gone cold.
B. D.
Definitely a 3 star... Average.
The soup starter took 30 minutes which to pour from a batch canister in the kitchen shouldn't really take more than 5 minutes.
On the menu there's an over 50s deal, but you're not allowed to use it unless you have some special card, so age is irrelevant. False advertising.
The food is a solid 5 / 10
Nothing special, but not horrible. Just average.
They really could use a children's part of the pub, as there were countless kids throwing cutlery and running around from incapable mothers who simply don't care. They'd probably stop yacking if one of their kids tripped over and landed on a fork.
The price is not worth it, because there's plenty of carveries about, which much higher quality. It's at least £3 over priced per head. Wouldn't go back when theres just much better options around.
S. T.
Booked a table for 5 for 6 o'clock ,not sure what to expect as it was our first visit ,have to say we weren't disappointed ,the food (we all had the carvery) was delicious and hot ,also great service form the waitress who served us ,will definitely bring going back .
A. C.
Decided to visit in mid week as the wife didn't want to cook. Friendly staff seated us & advised on menu choices. We both went for the carvery deal. Great value & superb surroundings. Definitely worth a visit again.
C. S.
lovely pub, got served very quickly. the place has an outdoor seating area at the front and rear but as the rear over looks the river it's always busy as soon as there's a tiny bit of British sunshine. I have eaten here before and while slightly pricey it was really good especially if you enjoy a sunday afternoon carvery
P. R.
Good place very good food no comment on the beer cos I don't drink alcohol.have re visited again and wish to update. Now giving 4 stars. Had beer battered codfather with chips excellent food. Well done to chef waiting staff extremely efficient and friendly.
E. L.
Amazing .....loved everything about it the polite staff..was greeted at the door by Billy .....we had hoy drinks outside as had been on an evening walk by the river .. it was table service .,..felt safe ..,and all covid rules where followed . Such a beautiful pub/restaurant....food smelt amazing....clean and friendly .....5 🌟 🌟 🌟🌟🌟 stars
C. H.
Lovely pub by the river. Good choice of food, although renowned for their week long availability of a carvery. It is well worth skipping the menu and heading straight for the carvery! Fantastic food at a great price.
S. G.
Nice enough carvery pub. You can sit outside by the river which is nice in the summer. If you order off the menu there is often a 30-40 minute wait on food. There is no option to book unless you are a large party so at busy times you might have to wait for a table inside.
S. S.
Tracy at the Swan was absolutely amazing when accommodating our large booking. She even gave me a call when a table large enough for our group became available.
The carvery as usual was spot on and the service was friendly and efficient despite our party staying until closing. This will definitely become a regular for our family.
N.
Best breakfast ever. Great service and friendly helpfull staff. Go early on weekend's b4 11 !
L.
Didn't go into the pub but looking at their menu it looks amazing and we will be visiting soon. We visited this place for the parking which you need to pay for on your phone and there is camera's on the parking site as well.
J. H. (.
Went this afternoon for a friends birthday lunch. Nice pub and good service. My friend and I had the steak and ale pie which was very disapointing. Neither of us could find much meat in them as full of gravy and onions. Wont be ordering that again.
S. M.
Very nice riverside pub, in lovely verdant surroundings. Can be a tad pricey, but a visit is always enjoyable.
P. F.
Nice place the only downside the carverys food was a little dry
E. A.
I called in after a dog walk along the river, had a lovely meal, large portions. The staff were very friendly. We sat outside in the garden overlooking the river. A lovely afternoon, my only criticism was that the garden furniture was looking old, seats weren't very inviting. Need some cusions. Hence 4 stars
J. D.
Hi, visited today for lunch with a friend which was fine sandwich with roasties and Yorkshire, different. Sat outside but please someone needs to sweep up, get rid of very dead shrubs and put a brush around the window frames. It's a lovely area but really not pleasant to sit out. And have to say no different from a couple of months ago. Apart from that myself and other friends come along in the evenings for a meal and always very friendly staff and lovely food
Ps... ladies loo at the bar had no lock on the door!!
T. S.
Four of us Had a lovely roast dinner and dessert. Very busy but still good service. Will definitely be going back as they also cater for Vegans.
P. O.
Good services, food freshly cooked and we'll presented.
G. W.
Covid-19 safe, ample parking, good service, pleasant staff, great carvery. Really enjoyed our roast dinner.
S. O.
Had the carvery excellent washed down with ice cold stella 👌 😋 lovely location
P. H.
This lovely pub is situated on what once was, would you believe, the main road between Swaythling and West End, crossing the River Itchen at the tiny Mans Bridge that is still visible from the newer, wider road. I well remember what an enormous bottleneck it became! But enough of the local geography, let's talk about the pub.
It really is a lovely place, right alongside the river and I'm so glad it is still doing good business when so many similar venues are closing down. I must praise the staff for their top quality service... the young ladies attending the tables were extremely sweet and nothing was too much trouble for them. The only reason for not giving the full five stars is that I must agree with your reviewer Maureen in that the carvery vegetables were a little dry and not very hot... I will certainly be back to the White Swan but on my next visit I shall order a set meal. Don't be put off by this small criticism though, because its a great place to visit and I highly recommend it.
D. N.
Very large carvery/pub. Big car park. No booking, so we had to wait 30m on a very busy Sunday, which was OK. Service pleasant, but slightly misordered. Food seemed fine to me given that everthing is done to a (low) price. Lots of families eating here with loads of babies getting food spooned down their sticky faces; the White Swan is NOT a sophisticated place.
o. w.
Amazing food and really nice staff. The waitress went above and beyond and kept making sure everyone was ok on our table. recommend the cookie sundae
N. N.
Early evening carvery, 1st visit for a long time, and 1st visit since it has changed to a Toby inn, chose a carvery, meat was a bit dry as it was a hot day and carvery possibly not the first choice for most, but after giving the veg a good stir, it was hot and plentiful, real roast potatoes and good selection. Will probably go and try a buffet breakfast, starting this service next week (end June)
M.
Great beer, food and atmosphere placed alongside the river Itchen. Got to be the most dog friendly pub on the south coast too with great dog walking. Probably our most favourite pub and well deserved too.
D. G.
Lovely place with a good atmosphere, just don't except everything on the menu to actually be available, and make sure to specify how you want your burger cooked or they'll cremate it. Otherwise you get what you pay for, cheap and cheerful.
A. T. B.
The food is generally good here but there's something about the place that doesn't always make you feel welcome.
I always think that if a manager takes care of a place then they'll ensure that the toilet's are in good order, but the toilet's really let this place down and they are run down!
I. N.
Very nice food with great views of the river. Staff very friendly and helpful.
N. B.
Lovely place to visit. Good food, wide selection of drinks. Value for money with great service. Really nice location. Definitely one to visit - must try the Sunday lunch!
C. a. H.
Good food good atmosphere great staff.
Standard carvery food good large helpings extra large plates available and kids menu.Kids very welcome. Very busyat 4pm on Sunday afternoon. Booking recommended unless you dont mind waiting
C. L.
Absolutely brilliant great service and a gorgeous meal lovely time spent with friends
D. S.
Great food at good price. While the carvery is very popular they also have plenty of other options available. If you go at the weekend I would recommend booking, they get very busy.
A. J.
Stopped here for lunch while out walking. We had to wait 35 minutes for our sandwiches. We ordered brown bread and got a very doughy yeasty white and the horseraddish was missing from my beef sandwich. Complaint over, the meal was actaully very delicious. The addition of roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding and a jug of gravy was unexpected but lovely. I poured the gravy onto my sandwich as i took each bite and it really enhanced the flavour. CAUTION! I spilt a bit of the gravy on my hand and it burnt me to the point it blistered. Be careful with it. Value incredible, I paid £4.79 for a thick sandwich, filled with hot roast beef, and the extras on the side. Very filling. I will go back and try it again, hopefully next time they get my order right and i get served a bit quicker. One last comment ... the bar staff were not at all welcoming.
M. T.
Good service and excellent food 👌
A. m.
A lovely pub on the walk along the river Itchen from woodmill. This pub has a nice menu with plenty of choice and I belive a carvery on a Sunday! Although on this visit I only had a drink. Nice garden at the back of the pub next to the river, very peaceful. There is also seating at the front with parking.
J. S.
Very nice carvery. Big plates and lots of meat. It can get very busy though so can be quite a queue. The staff are nice and the place is fairly fancy. Fairly standard prices. Overall nice experience.
S. L.
Well organised for social distancing. Nice friendly staff. Disappointed that had run out of steak. Top items on menu and a staple of British pub food. Amazing desserts 🍨
B. R.
I dont like to leave negative review. I prefer constructive reviews. I had to ask for cleaning stuffs to wipe the table before sitting. The bar man was polite and helpfull but if it was my bar, I would send one of the staffs to make the table ready. Food arrived, even my 4yrs old son said the Garlic Bread is burned! Wasnt impressed with food quality. Lady who brought our food to the table didnt ask if we need anything or simply saying enjoy your food.Good Customer service is the main reason for bringing people back to pubs. Will I go again to White Swan? Yes it is my local place, but hope the management will improve the customer service.
E. M.
Visited this pub whilst visiting our daughter at Uni as it is not too far from Wessex Lane campus. We walked to it on a Sunday via Woodmill riverside walk and popped in hoping we could get food. The pub does a carvery and menu and was very busy especially as it was a lovely sunny day. We could have waited 45 mins to eat in the restaurant or just order at the bar and eat outside or in the bar without the wait. We decided to eat outside and order at the bar. We went for the carvery at £10 per head and wow what great value!! The roast was amazing! So much choice and fantastic roasties and yorkshire puds. Thoroughly delicious and will definately return. I would recommend booking before you go as we visited at 5.30 pm on a Sunday and the place was heaving and if the weather does not give you the option to sit outside be prepared for a long wait for a table.
C. H.
Friendly staff and good carvery on my Monday lunchtime visit.
A. M.
Nice large pub with good carvery. However when we rang to book we were told they didn't take bookings on Sundays, which turned out not to be true when we arrived! Fortunately we were able to sit in the bar!
S. G.
This pub has beautiful surroundings right next to the water, friendly staff very happy to help & the food is nice not brilliant but nice overall & on a sunny day if you sit outside round the back you can watch the birds & canoeing go by.
D. N.
Is a lovely pub to go to with amazing beer garden next to the river but could really do with improving the sunday carvery as the last time I went it was very cold. Not tried any of the normal menu but imagine it's good
w. h.
Staff very food amazing and dog friendly
L. G.
Lovely staff the food was ok but was not very hot and potatoes were dry as though they had been kept warm for a long time meat was great
L. H.
I all way look forward to having lunch, at the swan and seeing the staff thay always very helpful thank you.
A. C.
The food was nice, but they need to sort the legs on the tables. We had two tables both wobbly, and yes a full pint went over. They gave us a replacement and packing for the legs.
C. W.
Had a carvery there paid extra for large portion but only got a bigger plate not good. But the food was nice just not enough meat . Friendly staff though
L. A.
Only stopped for coffee while out walking but the young staff were so polite and helpful. Will go back for lunch soon.
M. E.
Small amount of meat on the Carvery and did have to wait 5 minutes for the roast potatoes to come out, but when it was all out it was a very tasty carvery. Didn't have to wait long to be seated and the table service was polite
m. ś.
Brilliant place, lovely location. Delicious lamb and traditional roast. Very friendly staff . Not a lot people know but working here almost Ed Sheeran behind the bar. Thank you we had lovely time 😊 Mirka
D. A.
I dont think the staff like working there, they look miserable half the time, barely saw a smile on the 3 occasions I've visited. Sunday dinner was ok one week but not so ok the next. Went for breakfast one day only to be told we dont serve drinks until 10.30am, so I went to Weatherspoons instead.
A. O.
Great Sunday carvery. Arrive early if you haven't booked (they don't officially open until 12 on Sundays but they actually open 20 mins early).
no roasts weekdays !
N. R.
We used to go to the white swan about twice a month but in the last year its really gone downhill the food is ok but the staff look like they really cant be bothered especially the chefs serving the meat , they virtually chucked it on my plate. There are a few friendly waiters and waitresses and i appreciate they work hard but we come out to enjoy ourselves not to feel like we are just an annoyance
A. D.
The location. That is why I rated it highly, it is set alongside a beautifully scenic River which frequently has white swans swimming through, playing off of the name. But then the food was disappointing unfortunately and although staff were very nice and talkative it unfortunately wasn't enough compensation for the one and a half hour wait for our meal. I may go again in a couple years to see if they've improved, but until then I'd only go there if it was to go on a nice walk along the river.
S. J.
Lovely location on the river. They do a great carvery. Excellent value
L. S.
Went for breakfast, it's all you can eat but with table services so you tell them what you want. Bit apprehensive being British and not looking like a pig but was done in a great way by a great waitress. Food was great, bacon was amazing and you know its all cooked fresh as its prepared when you order.
Only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because of the way its done. Was fine for me but the missis was very anxious about ording and would have perfered to go up and get what she wanted. Personally having the food cooked fresh was better for me but I suppose its dependable on the person.
Would deffenatly use again.
S. W.
The staff are friendly. Emma our waitress was lovely. They even phoned a taxi for us as we had no service on our mobile. The food was divine. We always come back for the carvary.
B. P.
Had the sirloin steak. Really was very nice perfectly cooked and juicy was really busy too. Sunday carvery also looked tasty.
j. s.
Took the Mrs here for lunch and the service was excellent. Nice place as well by the river. Would recomend
M. X.
Cosy and nice food. Eat here quite a lot. The portions are a really good size! The carvery is very generous too, you can have all of the meats if you choose. And unlimited stuffing and Yorkshire puddings....please tell me another carvery that offers that locally!! The puddings are big as well and very well priced. Under £4 for a huge ice-cream sundae! Drinks are good prices too, £3.20 for a pint of cider on tap. Personal fav is the Yorkshire pudding wrap!!! Amazing value, under £6 for a meal that you will struggle to finish! Staff all so lovely and friendly! Very large carpark, and you can even go for a walk along the river itchen afterwards if you want to walk it off. There is a smoking and non smoking split area outside. There are also outdoor heaters under the gazebo if you get cold. First class pub!
J. S.
Had a great meal here. Staff were lovely and helpful. They also gave our two dogs treats! Would definitely recommend.
B. B.
After a walk up the Itchen a decent roast is called for, and wine! Come to eat rather than drink, but there is a bus stop if you do! Friendly service, comfortable temperature (it was bitter cold outside) and bigger than I expected.
G. G.
Our family group of 30 really enjoyed celebrating my mum's 70th birthday here.
Three course meal including a carvery.
Pulled pork cheesy nachos, three meat carvery and Eaton Mess.
The staff were really helpful with mum's cake.
A good pint of Ringway ale.
Thank you.
M. S.
Decent variety of food - all the usual suspects there
Pricing is what you would pay at any "brand" pub.
Quality - The menu food has always been good. Vary, not so sure and always wondered how long food sits there before being eaten.
For value - its acceptable. although not brilliant.
D. C.
Very pleasant staff, doom bar on form, prawn sarni hit the spot after a long hike. Found a fireside table easy as pub was quite empty mid afternoon. Can get manic at the weekend on a nice day.
R. W.
Excellent food and service for our first visit. Lovely location too
L. N.
Very quick polite service, food was great. Nice cool environment on a very hot day . Really enjoyed
T. W.
Had a great carvery celebrating our niece's birthday with all the family (13 of us). Really good service and good food. Definitely recommend a visit.
J. M.
The food was good as always, but we had an upsetting experience today. Yesterday was my husbands 80th birthday (one whichi we didn't think he'd see) so my daughter who treated us to the meal asked a waitress if she could put a candle in his dessert for him so we could sing ''Happy Birthday''', shortly after asking this favour they noticed the waitress had gone off duty, so my daughter mentioned this to the other waitress who turned out to be waiting on our table and she said ''Oh yes you want a candle in the desert that's fine''. So when the desserts arrived what did he have - Nothing. He was oblivious to this but my daughter was terribly upset as her dad will never have this special birthday again. Regards J. McPherson
M. C.
Good family pub restaurant primarily based round a carvery. Vegeterian meals also available. Plenty of parking with pub located next to the kitchen river. Friendly staff in restaurant and bar.
R. H.
Very nice place to eat, carvery food was excellent, friendly staff, excellent value. Will return in better weather so we can ear outside overlooking the river.
G. P.
Great food, great view of the river and most of all the waitress was excellent
D. H.
Very nice venue, staff are all friendly. I haven't tried the food though so can't comment.
J. M.
Great location next to the river. Perfect for a sunny day sat outside in the large garden area. Food was nice too, and was served very quickly considering how busy it was. Staff seemed a bit agitated and unfriendly at times during the busy period, but we didn't feel unwelcome.
S. R.
Not a bad pub, pretty good menu, but didn't quite hold the coziness of a nice old pub. Large screen TV playing sports :(. Ate the carvery on Sunday which was good, but it was very crowded and the lines were sooo long!
M.
The carvery is the best around
E. W.
Lovely food and happy and helpful staff. The location is very pretty. Deco inside is very nice. Perfect place for families or private functions. Would highly recommend
L. S.
Great service. The desserts were fab, the carvery beef was good, but the roast potatoes were a little tired.
J. C.
Friendly front of house, food average and Luke warm on this my 3rd visit, sadly the same on each visit. I so wanted it to have improved. Disappointing as such a lovely situated pub by the river

I had the ploughmans which was supposed to come with home made bread. What arrived was 1 slice of very cheap white bread chopped in half. After I pointed it out my dinner was taken and 2 nice pieces of home made bread was on the plate not to sure why they think they can get away with this.

Didn't rate the food . Had the carvery in the evening. Waitress very polite & prompt when serving us. Not enough time between food before being offered dessert.

Friendly staff and wonderful food

Sorry its been a bit delayed. Visited a little while ago, managed to drop a £20, staff very attentive and showed their integrity but delivering it straight back to me. Good food as well, just a shame my stomach wasn't as big as I thought.

Kitchen door slamming every few seconds, spoilt my otherwise great meal. Please fix it!

Excellent food outstanding service can’t wait to come back again roast dinner a must

Brilliant. A great pub/restaurant on the bank of The River Itchen, they serve a wide variety of food and drinks plus it is also a Carvery for a good roast dinner.

Nice little pub with good food and a wide range of drinks. You can sit out next to the river which is very scenic and relaxing as you listen to the water flowing by. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Didn't have several items on menu but eventually enjoyed soup and wrap but the potatoes tasted old so didn't eat them. Also toilets were out of order.

Excellent atmosphere, staff friendly and helpful, food was great too ....served promptly .

The pictures aren't quite what it is like in real life, somewhat disappointing.

This is a really good pub offering good service and a selection of drinks it has a fine restaurant at a reasonable price. The outside facilities for drinking and dining Alfresco are excellent. A big plus is that it's dog friendly

Just had a fantastic Sunday lunch. Great food, plenty of it and a very reasonable price! Special mention for our waitress Emma who was great with the kids!

Being a vegetarian initially I felt they don't have enough choice for me in the festive menu, but they made a veggies tart especially for me. The festive decorations and music was also good

A great location for a pub in the city. They serve a carvary every night alongside a normal menu. I always go for a carvary when its busy otherwise food can take ages to come out.

Very nice Sunday carvery, very clean abd good quick service

Usually pop in for the carvery. Good value for money, plenty of choice and always leave full.
Service is friendly and good. Nice walk along the river if time permits too

Very good carvery, staff friendly and efficient

Just had a drink. Took a few favorites off the menu (calamari and sweet potatoe fries) so didn't eat today. More because of the weather being too hot!!
C. F.
It was very good meal
J. N.
Lack of clarity when ordering drinks and food, had to wait nearly 45 minutes before we were told we could go to the carvery

Was a nice pub friendly and helpful staff but ordered for same table separately but they didn't cook food all at once so food got cold waiting for everyone else's, also found a hair in the food but they gave a full refund
T. L.
Been here a couple of times after a walk along the river. Good parking, good décor, both times I had the fish finger sandwich and was pleased with the quality of the food and reasonable price. Will visit again.

Lovely food bit busy but the service was fab

Mediocre carvery, overcooked veg and pirates, thick skin on gravey, cheap enough as were the clientele. Desserts very good value. Just go for pudding...!!
C. E.
Excellent service, very friendly staff

White Swan does a fabulous fish and chips. Chips are perfect- crisp on the outside and fluffy inside and fish generous size. Favourite place for a Friday night.
I. M.
Fish and chips were absolutely excellent. Fish was cooked to perfection and batter was superb. Service, however, was rather slow.

Visited today. Made our choices from the menu only for the guy who was serving our table to come back and say that the chef was taking his break for the next hour and that only the carvery was available!! Has put us off going again.
J. F.
Good service. Fair price for food. Carvery hd a good selection of meats. We had a nice liitle room for our group from work.
j. b.

M. T.
Cavery food very good
C. W.
Very slow service. Had three attempts to get food actually available. Previous visit was also very slow service. Booked table for 11 people only 10 chairs and settinget. Would not recommend
J. G.
Great place to eat. Great service Excellent food good choice not just carvery
N. L.
Great place.
I like .
It is very beautiful pab near the river.
P. M.
Superb. Would recommend booking early but if you arrive around 12 you can sit in the bar and still have a Sunday carvery.
A. F.
Lovely food and very friendly staff
Had to wait for nearly an hour which was the only downside
However very wholesome food great value for money and the staff kept us informed of where our meal was due to the delay
Definitely a place to visit and we will be back
Thank you
G.
Love food and lovely pub. Drinks service was poor though. In fact, we had to go to the bar to get drinks then, take them to our table.
C. W.
Popped in for a carvery. Food was good and fairly cheap. Pub itself was nice and the serving staff friendly.

Went here for their carvery it was ok but not the best , there was little cheese on the cauliflower cheese , the roast potatoes were rubbery, the ladies toilet hand dryer made a funny noise, service was good..
