Reviews of The Star at Cotton

We ate here on an evening whilst camping up the road and it was definitely an amazing find!
We were greeted and seated instantly and the service from the waitresses was great. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of Malbec and tucked into some of the nibbles which were delicious (highly recommend the home made scratchings and bread basket).
The Korean chicken starter was tasty but the 2 best courses were by far the huge tomahawk pork steak with an amazing sauce and then saving the best for last, a giant slab of sticky toffee pudding which was incredible!
Whilst waiting for a taxi back we enjoyed some delicious cocktails from their bar. Highly recommended to come check this place out if in the area

Really lovely staff and fantastic food. So much so we've been here three times in as many days.
If you love burgers then the brisket burger is a must. It's off the chart. I couldn't get it out of my mind the next day and had it again that night. Incredible.
The Star breakfast is also up there. Really tasty.
Our daft dog was also welcome.
Oh, and the background music was inspired. A great Motown playlist created a beautiful vibe.
Brilliant. Well worth popping in if you're passing or camping nearby.
R. F.
Forgot to take a picture of the main meal but the food was top quality, with fresh and local ingredients. Good beer and friendly staff. Can't wait to return on our next trip to Alton Towers. Would highly recommend!

We have just spent a lovely afternoon in the Star, thank you so much to Ophelia for looking after us so well you made our birthday celebrations even more special! If you are ever in the area we would highly recommend a visit. 🥂🥳

My favourite place for dining and socialising. Warm and inviting with the friendliest staff. The food is first class, nothing is too much trouble. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Wow such a lovely place! Great friendly staff, amazing food and a few cold pints after a long hot day at alton towers !! We booked online was fantastic 👍
H. W.
Outstanding food, excellent service, absolutely wonderful - I would drive the hour and half from home just to eat here. Thanks you so much, 100% will come again ❤️
L. k.
Very interesting menu, all food was incredible. Though we did order a virgin blueberry colada and 2 with alcohol and all 3 tasted the same
D. O.
Thoroughly deserving of 5 stars! Everything was perfect, from the brilliant staff to the delicious food. Staff were so friendly, warm and welcoming and particularly lovely to my 18 month old. Menu had something for everyone, including a lovely children's menu. We had pork belly to start which was the best pork belly I've ever tasted, the mains were also delicious. Thank you very much we will definitely be coming again!

Beautiful food. Beautiful surroundings. Staff are cheerful and friendly. Catered brilliantly for my wife's dietary requirements. Would highly recommend.

Our 3rd visit over the Jubilee weekend and it just gets better, food is excellent surroundings beautiful and service is 1st class thankyou Jess my wife is the fussiest eater in the county this weekend and has enjoyed the food immensely, will be back on our next visit

Sunday lunch spectacular.
Warm and welcoming, me and 3 others came here for our Sunday lunch, we opted for the sharing platter £20PP, pricey for a Sunday lunch but worth every penny.
It was essentially a Christmas dinner, extremely tasty with all trimmings, the cauli cheese, roast carrots and enormous yorkies were the stand outs but it was all delicious, the mince pies with cream were also some of the nicest I have had, this from a mince pie connoisseur.
The staff are warm and welcoming, the decor is beautiful with the flowers hanging from the ceiling - excellent touch.

*vegan options*
Amazing! Honestly just go already 😊.
Stayed just down the road from this pub while visiting alton towers. Very warm and welcoming and have a couple of vegan options that me and partner had. I had the vegan fish and chips and my girlfriend had vegan meat ball tagliatelle. Both were insanely good! Everything about this place just felt right. It's such a gem and you won't be disappointed.
C. T.
Excellent, The Star has some star chefs who can certainly cook, and some attentive staff to serve, busy place with great atmosphere, parking a bit tight 😬 but worth finding one. Thanks guys.

Went today for afternoon tea to celebrate my birthday. The food was amazing and they catered to the different dietary requirements for the group. The staff were so helpful, special thanks to Ella and Ellie who were so polite and attentive. The atmosphere was great and the staff clearly put 100% into everything they do. Thankyou to the whole team. Will definitely be returning. Highly recommend

I've got to be honest, I didn't think this place was up to much. The staff were lovely, the surrounding and decor was very nice but that's all if I'm honest. The food was bland, most boring burger I've ever had. Me and my partner both asked for ketchup and got given a measly little pot between us. When you're paying them prices I would expect better. I'd still have a drink there but that's it.

Although it is a great spot with some great food photos, we were a little underwhelmed with our experience. No reservations available on the Web site, so called in to see if we could get a table for 2 @ 12:20. Waited 5 mins at the door, then shown to a table in a thorofair, order 2 drinks, white wine spritz and large coke - we get a white wine and glass of coke full of ice. 5 mins later took the food order - simple brunch bacon and bre stack and breakfast. Nearly 1 hour later it arrived, warm. It was lovely but would have been better 30 minutes earlier and Hot. We asked for the bill and eventually paid on the way out. Apparently they were a chef and grill down so apologised for the delay.

My family and I were passing through on our way from Cambridge. We literally stumbled on this place and were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Even going to the trouble of making sure the log fire was lit for us.
The food was excellent. Good portions and superbly prepared and presented. The dessert, in my case, the sticky toffee pudding, was incredible. I have never tasted better.
We left well fed and will most definitely return in the future.
Thankyou.
L. E.
We had a pre valentines meal as they were fully booked for the actual day. We had starter, main and dessert, all of which were absolutely perfect. So much so we were trying to figure out a way of ordering some more dessert to take away because it was so good. Staff were super friendly and attentive, a real credit to the place. Absolutely faultless!
G. R.
What a fantastic, inviting and friendly pub. Made to feel very welcome and our waitress Ella was superb. Spent the afternoon in the pub garden and enjoyed a wonderful meal as a family which included our 3 dogs.
I would highly recommend a visit.

A very handy stop off after Alton Towers on the way towards home. Excellent food, better service! Nice drinks range and very child/dog friendly. A hidden gem, very well done all of the team at The Star, Thank you.
D. M.
Fantastic place with fantastic food. Really glad we called in. Brilliant vegan options too for my wife and even the kids menu was interesting. Staff couldn't have been nicer either.
c. e.
We eat out regularly and I have to say the Star is superb. We had the sharer platter of beef, pork and chicken and all the roast meal trimmings. It was huge and beautifully cooked.
.the starters and puddings (which I was too full to eat!!) Were equally excellent . Definitely worth a visit.
The staff were delightful, not pushy but helpful .
We will be returning very soon

After a day at Towers we looked for a place to relax and eat and let the rush hour die down. How lucky we were to find The Star at Cotton. Firstly, it's adorable. Secondly, the staff were above-and-beyond lovely. My boyfriend had something stuck in his eye and they even fetched saline for him to try to wash it out. And they came and offered to take a photo of us together. Just nice things! Thirdly, the food was good. I found plenty to eat as a vegan and my boyfriend found plenty to fulfill his child-palate. Would return.
M. F.
We visited the Star at Cotton while on holidays and enjoyed our meal so much the first night we came back the following. The food was wonderful but the real jewel is in the staff there. I can't say enough wonderful things about them. They went above and beyond to ensure that my family was happy and well looked after and I will absolutely recommend that any friends visiting the area stop in for a meal. The truffle parmesan fries are amazing and you won't regret ordering them as a side.
K. B.
Great food. Restaurant quality and prices so don't expect standard pub grub and prices. Two parties at the time of my visit and they all seemed very happy with the service and food. 2 minute stroll from the C@C club site. The Star at Alton.
J. C.
Best date night! Stafff were sooo lovely! Food was amazing cannot wait to go back!
C. B.
Booked a table on a whim after looking for somewhere to eat near our accommodation. We started with the bread and butter, and the Korean fried chicken. The bread was fresh, and the butter was made with seaweed and garlic. The chicken was absolutely incredible - juicy chicken, crispy batter, and the kimchi coleslaw was fresh, crunchy, and bursting with flavour. For mains, my partner had the Star burger, which she couldn't stop talking about all night, and I had the fillet steak. A bit pricier than I'm used to (7oz for £30), but it's absolutely in my top 3 meals I've ever eaten. The steak was cooked perfectly and topped with bits of crispy fried onion, and the gravy that came with it was full of flavour - perfect for dipping your chips! We both had the chocolate orange torte for dessert, which was soft and rich. We paid £95 for two starters, two mains, two desserts and five drinks, which is more than we'd usually spend, but it was worth every penny. This isn't your usual pub grub, it's fine dining food that just happens to be served in a pub. The staff were attentive, and the food came out quickly at every course. Parking is limited, so turn up before peak times. The entire place has a cosy feel, with low ceilings, comfy chairs, and homely decor. We'll definitely be coming back if we're in the area.

What an outstanding country pub! The service was impressive from the second our family walked in the front door and the food was delicious. A well thought out menu, with a beautiful balance of flavours. A must if your are in the area.
L. B.
Four of us thoroughly enjoyed our outstanding meals, so delicious. The birthday girl also got a second dessert wishing her Happy Birthday. Lovely helpful staff too. Thank you!
A. G.
Went here for an evening meal. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, the food was perfect (I would highly recommend the chocolate orange torte!), and the price was very reasonable. If I lived closer, I would definitely be returning here.
K. L.
This place is beautiful and gets busy so advisable to book. Food is beautiful and the staff are really friendly.. Close to Alton Towers and local holiday lodges.. Definitely recommend a visit here...
J. E.
What a great last minute find! Mussels starter really tasty, then the rump steak was exceptional and the blade of beef very good. The bakewell tart was huge and outstanding, with a great vegan brownie too. The kid's fish goujons were excellent too. Service was attentive and very well carried out. Thank you for an excellent evening
S. W.
Absolutely brilliant night celebrating my birthday on Saturday. Food was gorgeous and the staff were fab, especially Poppy who had our entire table laughing. See you soon

Visited twice in one week while camping up the road and visiting alton Towers.
The first time we went we were seated in the bar. Had a lovely meal and desert and enjoyed our surroundings. The two young waitresses didn't stop all night and nothing was too much trouble. The bar man brought our drinks over and talked to us about the local beer that he'd had a part in making.
The second time we went we were seated in the restaurant and were then forgotten about.
A waitress came over to take our drinks orders and we said we were ready to order our food.
We watched drinks being served to other tables but there was no sign of ours.
After 20 minutes of placing the order (40minutes after arriving) I managed to get someone's attention and she went to find out about our drinks order.
Another 10 minutes went past and our starters arrived.
I asked again about our drinks and the lovely young girl said she would go and find out.
We finished our starters and were gasping for a drink. Another waitress came to the table next to us with more drinks for their table so I asked if we could at least have a jug of water for the table as we were very thirsty now.
She apologised again and the jug of water appeared instantly. I asked again if there was any chance of our ordered drinks arriving.
Not much long later the drinks finally arrived (must have been over an hour by this point) closely followed by our food.
The food was beautiful. Lovely fresh and seasonal.
We had walked to the restaurant with the plan to have a good few drinks, a cocktail and a desert.
We had our shared starter, a main and a single pint and left.
The restaurant was packed and the young waiting on staff never stopped. They clearly need to employ more staff especially when you're next door to alton Towers and it's the school holidays
G. J.
The service, atmosphere and food were all impeccable. The staff where very welcoming and incredibly friendly. The food was absolutely gorgeous, I highly recommend the pork belly and the Camembert.
L. N.
Visit if at Alton Towers! We stopped here having left the park for the day, to grab a quick bite before driving home and it was the perfect pitstop. Service was friendly, attentive and extra lovely to our toddler. Food was quick and truly delicious: we shared some small plates and little one had kids sausage and chips. Everything was super tasty, we’ll presented and interesting. Pud was scrummy too! Drinks were great and everything was really good value. We will be back there again!!
H.
Wonderful Easter meal at Star of Cotton. Delicious food and the service was amazing. Particular thanks to Ellie who was our waitress. She was so lovely and really made it special.
e. h.
Overall we had a nice night here. Really lovely and efficient service. Great cocktails. The pork tomahawk was great and so were the sides but unfortunately the pesto and chilli pappardelle wasn't good at all it was very bland and had no chilli! It was very disappointing and I would have put a lot lower rating if the service and all of the other food wasn't so good.
R. L.
Visited this pub this afternoon for lunch with my friend, we were not give the lunch menu as I have just seen on the website but rather the experience main menu with limited choices. The steak sandwich was served on the thickest / small cut ciabatta bread that was impossible to fit In the mouth, so it was a case of dismantling it. Not worth £12 with a few fries next to it. The ferrero Rocher cheesecake it was delicious, however at a £7.50 again was too expensive for the size. The pub itself was nice and cosy, staff friendly. Shame that we were not given the cheaper lunch menu to begin with, so when visiting make sure to ask for it, as they don’t give you the option.

Today was a very nice relaxing day in a family friendly pub with good food and atmosphere 5 stars is the least I can give this place,. And the food well that was well portioned for the price very happy definitely be back in next few weeks
J. M.
Impromptu stop for beer and probable nibbles.
Nice warm feel to place on entry and asked if we wanted to dine bar fully booked so we were shown to adjacent area which was v nice. Menu looked good so we settled on a sharer plus a starter which were v tasty and highly recommended ( beef strips/ camembert).
Service was v good and friendly - thank you Poppy.
Only reason not 5* was 1st beer served was off and fairly obviously so ! No probs in replacing.
Will def stop again when in area
Cheers.
J. L.
Great little find today . Good beer excellent food fantastic staff. Expensive for the size of the portions is my only little moan. Otherwise it would have been 5 stars.
M. K.
Amazing food, lovely decor and helpful staff. Always happy to visit here after going to Alton Towers
A. S.
A great little pub serving hearty, great quality food. The pub is small so it's best to book ahead, however it's definitely worth visiting if you're in the area. Although we had to wait a little for food, it was well worth it!
J.
The place and staff at great and very polite. Was abit disappointed the chicken was thigh meat and not breast considering the price
L. W.
Had pie and chips... Amazing. Log burners, real ale and friendly staff. What more can you ask for. Knocked one star off due to the portion size of fish and chips and the gnocchi compared to the burgers and pies. Dog friendly to boot!
S. B.
We only had a lunch drink on a walk and elected to sit outside. That said we found the star very inviting, the staff were all very helpful. We intend to made a return visit and have food as the menu looked interesting.
A. P.
Good pub with varied food options. Lovely beer and friendly and accommodating staff which were excellent with the kids
G. B.
Lovely place we just pop in for a drink .
1st time here we call back soon ..we must book next time for a meal here
S. W.
Don't know what the hypes about. Food is bang average if that. Yes the staff are lovely and friendly, but people must be deluded if they think the foods top notch. Frozen food gets you no where
M. G.
Absolutely beautiful pub, great staff. The pichana steak was outstanding. We were delighted with our drinks, made up with our food and it had a great family friendly atmosphere. Can't wait to visit again.
A. H.
Went for lunch and was blown away with the service and the quality of the food. The menu choice was refreshing after finding many pubs are serving 'standard pub grub' recently.
Staff noticed we had a present on the table for our daughter and offered to bring out a birthday board, which when it came was such a lovely surprise. Will definitely return when next in the area.
D. H.
Awesome food, lovely atmosphere, would have been 5 stars if the portions were a bit bigger.... thought I'd ordered a child's meal by mistake....
Staff get 💯💯👍👍
A. F.
Lovely pub with a selection of vegetarian dishes. High end food which tasted amazing. Would highly recommend
A. C.
Has been variable over recent years (for understandable reasons) now back on form. Excellent food. Great beer.
R. G.
An absolute gem, the place is beautiful, the staff are friendly and helpful.
The food is out of this world and the cocktails are sublime.
N. A.
Such a great atmosphere and the owners couldn't do enough to help. Food and service was amazing would highly recommend and will be back
J. G.
Good food, good surroundings, lovely helpful staff and amazing hot food 🥘🥰❤️Xx
C. F.
Visited for the Valentines special. Amazing food, friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommended, we will certainly be back!
J. S.
Always a fab meal with great service set in a lovely place 10/10
H. N.
We booked to eat here with the family whilst on a visit to Alton Towers. We were looked after by Ophelia who was extremely friendly and attentive. The food was amazing. We had chilli beef (quite a kick to it) and the lamb to start with and they were both delicious. Followed by duck breast, pork belly, kids burger and kids sausage and mash, all of which were very tasty. Would definitely visit again if ever in the area.
B. d.
Excellent food and great service, really enjoyed our meal here it was such a treat!
C. P.
Nicely refurbished and the staff were a credit to the establishment. Set up as a restaurant but drinks only customers made to feel welcome. Nice snug for a cosy drink. Beautiful setting, two minutes walk from local campsite and close to the theme park.
n. s.
We went last Sunday for a sharing Sunday lunch platter. The food was delicious and there was an abundance of meat! Excellent value for money. The place is decorated beautifully. I advise booking as this restaurant gets very busy. I have read previous reviews about people being turned away when the place looks like it has spare tables but I observed their excellent covid hygiene measures so I can understand why the tables aren’t full at times due to them having time to clean. Excellent service all round
T. D.
Great country pub, but service was a bit on the slow side, we were seated on arrival very promptly, and then our drinks order was taken, then 5 minutes after that the food order was taken. We waited 20 mins for food to arrive, at which point our drinks still hadn't arrived and we had to ask for them again. The food was lovely but the service was on the slow side, especially as they were not full to capacity
S. C.
The Star is an absolutely fantastic pub. The decor is beautiful inside and out, the beer garden and covered seating area is fantastic. The owners are wonderful and have hearts of gold, they go above and beyond EVERY TIME to make sure you have the best experience with them, whether it's a quick drink or a three course meal. The food is amazing, one of the best in the area. Great selection and lovely drinks menu too. We go regularly and you should too!
L. N.
This is an excellent restaurant pub. Great decor, great staff and excellent food.
E. K.
Very lovely and tasty late lunch.
Pleasant and efficient staff.
Nice small menu.
Only feedback really is (and it won't stop us coming back):
Decor is a bit confused, feels a little like it should be an upmarket tearoom rather than a gastropub.
Pork belly was tough. We didn't say anything as it was very moreish and the crackling top was 👌
Possibly a bit too much truffle being used on the menu - we both love it, but it felt like it was featuring on a lot of the dishes.
Just wish we'd left room for desserts 😞
Next time, though!
A. N.
Brilliant venue and food. The service was excellent and made our visit really enjoyable, nothing was too much trouble - we will definitely be returning here often.
M. s.
Food was amazing staff very friendly really rate this place 👌
R. W.
The food was amazing and the staff member who served us was even better. You will make an amazing teacher (we were the Scottish family with the baby). If your a family at Alton Towers, I would highly recommend the Star.
C. L.
Took the wife out for a meal, food was good but the young blonde bartender was a real treat. Very polite young man, made us a ‘whiskey sour’ will definitely be going again highly recommend.
D. M.
Absolutely AMAZING the food was the greatest meal I think I've ever had. A real home from home. The staff were polite, friendly and extremely helpful, nothing was to much for them. I can't wait to go back and enjoy more of the fantastic food.
E. M.
A very charming country pub and restaurant, our waitress was lovely and very helpful.
I had a steak it was extremely tender and tasty. I Was VERY surprised though to see just a steak, a mushroom and some vine tomatoes but NO CHIPS for £30!!?! they had to be brought separately!.
My child had vegan meatballs (very little vegetarian options)with pasta, said it was nice but was bit cold. It was busy and a nice atmosphere, we went after spending the day at Alton Towers and was a nice place to eat before our journey home, just a bit on pricey side but I guess maybe because of the beautiful area its located.
Also, parking is very limited, only a small carpark at side of the pub.
G.
Food was great for the price, portions aren't too small and the waiters and waitresses couldn't be more helpful. Ophelia who served us had a very positive vibe about her
P. E.
Happened upon The Star at Cotton whilst driving around waiting for our daughter to need picking up at Alton Towers. It's a very welcoming pretty looking inn. We sat in the garden and a waitress appeared, welcomed us and took our drinks order. Lunch was being served, which looked delicious Unfortunately we only had time for drinks which we enjoyed in the garden. We will be back to enjoy a lunch before our holiday finishes.

loverly country pub a stones throw from alton towers, parking available.
lovely attentive staff and great service.
food was... well it wasn't what I expected, it was good and I finished my meal but I was expecting much much more fro thrle hype, they are clearly trying their best
we have branded paper napkins but the menu was a tacky laminated job with little choice, I suppose the menu could be a covid thing.
we will return again for the summer menu.
I wish the Star at Cotton well..
G. L.
Great food, good beer & great atmosphere
V. C.
The venue is lovely and has a cozy feel. No seating outside so had to sit indoors. I would say call up and book in advance as it can get very busy.
The service is extremely slow as it took 2 hours to get a starter and main. Also ordered the camembert starter which was on the menu but was told they didn't have any which was rather annoying.
R. S.
Above average food , relatively small portions, parking limited
j. s.
Great place , food was excellent , service was spot on , highly recomended.
G. M.
Stay at alton towers nearly every year tried here for the first time.
Food was amazing like great we all loved it.
Service however was poor. It appears they forgot to put our main order in and it took over an hour to arrive. Hey these errors can sometimes happen, however communication was very poor to the resolution. When food did come out some had been sitting under the lamp for a while even after we asked for any food to be sent straight out multiple times (particularly the kids food). The food would probably make us return again but communication needs improved would love to have been a 5 star.
j. t.
Lovely interior ..warm and cosy atmosphere ...could do with a little music piped outside where the gazebos and seating area are. Plus outdoor heating now the weather is cooler.
All in all a great place
S. C.
Lovely food, really nice environment & atmosphere and the staff were really helpful and attentive.
S. M.
This is a beautiful gorgous pub couldn't believe how pretty it was when I walked in
S. B.
Delicious food, friendly and helpful staff, lovely table in the restaurant, warm and welcoming, would definitely recommend a visit.
J. E.
Fantastic quality food without the price tag, welcoming staff and atmosphere. Would recommend a visit particularly as it is only 5 minite walk from Alton, The Star camping and caravanning club site.
S. H.
What an amazing g place, booked here when we had a stay over at Alton towers for our sons 14th birthday. Wish we lived closer as we loved it so much it would have become a regular haunt. Great food, great serti g, staff were attentive and very friendly
N. O.
Fantastic service, friendly staff, lovely hot food, very quick service
P. F.
Delicious food, amazing service and friendly staff. We are staying at Alton towers hotel but did not like the look of the menu. So we went looking for somewhere local to eat, my partner found this local pub. We received a warm friendly welcome and the food was outstanding. I would highly recommend this to anyone staying at Alton towers or passing through the area.
A. M.
Lovely food and staff. Would recommend

I came across this gem as I had dropped my DD at Alton towers and only wanted a coffee and toilet, but boy what a lovely surprise. Elegantly decorated, super clean, and a quaint little snug, that leads into a dining area. Toilets were spotless and the staff very friendly and polite. I just wish I found it earlier in the day. Next time this is my go to place, and I can bring the pooch as dogs allowed and a lovely little garden. A beautiful friendly pub 2 miles from Alton Towers what more could you ask. Good luck to the new owners, I will definitely be back.
C. J.
2nd visit and it was as lovely as the first. I had the crispy beef followed by the brisket burger. Both were delicious! For pudding, I had the tolberone tart which tasted a lot like a Daime cake? Still delicious though. I also finished my daughter's cheese cake and son's brownie. I left feeling so full, I had to lay down. My drink to go with it all was a lovely cider, Kings press I think? Everything I want from a pub lunch.
V. K.
We had such a lovely evening. The quality and variety of the vegan dishes was fantastic. Staff were really welcoming and friendly. Thanks xx
J. S.
Lovely food. Attentive staff. Warm and comfortable on a wintery rainy day. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Many thanks
G. D.
If you like calamari, you are in for a treat! An elevated gastro pub menu, nice atmosphere and very attentive staff. A recommended stop on your way back from Alton Towers.
D. M.
After being recommended to me on Facebook we popped in here 28th June while staying at alton towers- the food was delicious and resulted in a bold statement from my partner 'the best burger I've ever had'! Thanks for adding to our trip, would highly recommend to fellow travellers.
I. M.
What a find ! A beautiful country pub, less than a five minute walk from alton the star campsite, full of character and a lovely welcome to match. What can I say,the staff were attentive and welcoming, the food was amazing and the service was five star.We will
definitely be coming back. Thank you the Murphys 🙏
M. W.
Stayed at a local campsite for 3 nights and came here on each night, having an evening meal on the first 2 nights.
The first night I had an excellent 10oz Sirloin cooked to perfection, followed the night after with an amazing 10oz Haddock.
Both were perfect.
On top of that, the staff assured safety by implementing Covid-19 guidelines in an very professional, yet uncompromising way. All the staff were extremely friendly, whilst remaining personable, flexible, welcoming and professional
The place is spotless and comfortable, with real fires throughout and a fabulous welcome for our little dog.
All in all, an excellent experience. We shall certainly be back. Thank you.
Mark, Sarah and Rambo!

Lovely little pub with a deceptively big restaurant. Food excellent, staff excellent - couldn't do enough for you. Would highly recommend.
D. H.
Great pub, a million times better than eating or drinking in Alton Towers, just book ahead to avoid disappointment. Staff, surroundings, service and atmosphere all great.
s. p.
We had a meal here on the 29.10 and it was off the set menu and my husband had the fish and chips which looked awesome and he said was delicious as well as his soup for starters. I had bruschetta and mushrooms which also was very nice and lasagne for mains. We definitely would recommend and return when we come back to Alton Towers 😂.
n. w.
Absolutely brilliant experience! My 50th birthday surprise. The staff were amazing. Would definitely recommend
M. M.
Great friendly staff amazing food and comfy chairs
I. C.
Fantastic food, great service. Highly recommended. You can really tell how much effort has been put in to make this a success despite the worldwide challenges.
O. K.
Had a really good meal here, the food was enjoyable plus the service was friendly and helpful too.
S. M.
Lovely bottomless brunch in fabulously comfortable surroundings. The drinks were not spared in our 2 hour slot and food was delicious. Highly recommend 👍🥂
P. S.
Amazing service, amazing food we will definitely visit again when we can. Top notch top nosch
K. G.
Amazing place. This was our second visit in as many months and we live an hour away. Delicious food, beautiful location, gorgeous pub decor and lovely warm, welcoming atmosphere. We will be back again! Highly recommend!
K. S.
Pleasant pub nice staff, I think the food and drink is very expensive considering there is only 5% vat on food at the moment but of course that goes for most establishments around the country.
A. P.
Just had a truly outstanding night at The Star with my beautiful wife. Fabulous food, excellent service, lovely atmosphere. Have to go back again and try the puds as the starter and main portions were so generous, we couldn't squeeze anymore in. All good!! 👍😃
A. L.
Beautiful afternoon tea👌 great value for money
R. C.
We went for lunch yesterday after a beautiful walk around Dimmingsdale. The decor is lovely and everything is scrupulously clean. There was a great range of gins and the ales and wine were great and well priced eg large glass of Malbec for £6.50. All our meals were delicious with the biggest chips in the world getting a special mention! Service was friendly and unobtrusive with all our requests dealt with promptly. I think we might try the breakfast pre walk next time! We had a great day. Thank you.
G. W.
Just stumbled upon this Pub by chance for an evening meal. Obviously very recently renovated and to a very high standard. Staff were really friendly and the food was to a much higher quality and presentation than expected from a local pub and for the price. I had the special of a 8oz rump steak. It was like a fist size bit of beef, unbelievably thick and perfectly cooked. I wish this place was my local.
R. W.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was ok but I've had a lot better. The pub itself is clean and nice but the thing that really let this place down for me was the temperature in the main dining room. There were two electronic blower heaters on but it was really cold and spoiled the whole experience for me.
R. W.
Cute little place, brunch time can only get open brunch with 40£ pp so we just had coffee and dessert, still nice with lovely decor.
B. D.
Fantastic pub located right outside Alton towers. If you are staying over it's worth leaving the park and coming here for your meal. All the food was excellent, I had the steak and my wife the Cajun chicken burger. Good selection of beers and ales and great service from the team there. About half the cost of eating in the park and better quality food. You should definitely stop in for a meal here, we will be again
S. L.
Fantastic gem, home cooked food which is lovely and fresh . Booking recommended as it is always busy.
Lovely staff who help go above and beyond
J. E.
Excellent food! Excellent service.
All the staff are friendly, nothing is too much.
Highly recommend if you want to celebrate a birthday or just have a cosy meal. 5 stars
J. B.
Accommodating and friendly staff welcomed us into this fine pub for dinner. The menu is standard pub grub, which was served promptly, was well cooked and nicely presented.
The small pub garden is well maintained, and a nice place to sit.
Inside, decor is modern, and unfussy, and there are some lovely places to sit and relax.
Excellent.
d. o.
Came on a Sunday had the roast player to share for two. It was absolutely lovely. Couldn't finish it all but highly recommended.
P. M.
Great service. Lovely food. Very clean and a pleasant decor. Will definitely visit again!
K. C.
Good food with little portions.there wasn't enough salad to wrap the duck in.abit slower then the places i have been before and definitely not for people with claustrophobia.
B. H.
A lovely little beer garden for a sunny Bank Holiday weekend, real sun trap. Friendly staff and a nice choice of craft beer on tap too. We didn't eat, but the food looked good.
J. C.
What a beautiful pub stopped off for some food and wow it lived up to its expectations. Traditional home cooked food at its finest. Warm welcoming atmosphere topped off with exceptional customer service I will be returning here very soon.
A. G.
Very nice pub, fires running at full tilt so nice and warm, staff young but efficient and communicative. Good efforts made for Covid safety, though with a small old pub such as this, there is a limit to what you can do.... There are floor signs requesting that you follow the one way system but no sign of said one way system actually being in place, for example. Toilets smart and clean.
M. W.
This is a beautiful quite pub in a rural setting restaurant and bar food very nice friendly staff worth a visit
C. B.
Stumbled across this little place last weekend & what a lovely hidden gem it was. Beautiful food, friendly service & a welcoming atmosphere. Would return & recommend.
V. E.
1st time here today and won't be our last. Sunday lunch share board was fantastic. The service was brilliant also.
N. W.
Great little gastro pub. Food was excellent. We went for cocktails with our meal
G. P.
14/09/20. Service with a smile, but not a great deal of efficiency. Food was OK too. Broccoli and Stilton soup, Bread & Butter Pudding, Pint of bitter, Cup of frothy coffee, less than £20.
m. s.
Excellent service from the staff, absolutely outstanding can’t wait to return. Food was just as amazing 5* all the way
K. R.
The food was amazing and reasonably priced at around £14 for a main meal. The staff were friendly and welcoming whilst adhering to social distancing rules. Would visit there again.
d. b.
Lovely place to have a meal brilliant quality food lovely service and the burger was beautiful
J. S.
Very friendly place, all waitresses was very welcoming. Food and drink very nice, would definitely recommend.
B. M.
Best food and homemade cakes I've had for a very long time. Great homely atmosphere with friendly staff. Wish we lived nearer.
m.
Good atmosphere, great beer. Also for being out in cotton, it's all up to date, can use Google pay, and others. A really nice location as scenery is beautiful. Alton towers just down the road too. So all in all a great place for a quiet drink and a chat.
S. H.
Amazing food and service definitely recommend coming.
C. P.
Lovely surprise find when in the area for Alton Towers. We needed an early dinner with a 6 & 8yr old and the Star was perfect. Nice menu, mainly burger based and all the usual kids options. 3adults, 2 kids and a few drinks came to £66.
Lovely bright dining room soaking up the eveniung sun. Cosy bar area with much needed woodburners. Staff were very pleasant and efficient. We'd definately visit again if in the area.
L. H.
Loved this pub. Food was fab, staff pleasant and helpful. Would definitely go back. Seafood sharing starter was huge.!
B. C.
I'm a regular visitor to the nearby campsite and always give this place a visit. It's a very nice traditional local pub that serve great food and staff that always give you a warm welcome and will do anything to make your visit better. Due to it being close to a busy theme park I would advise you to pre book a table if you require food to avoid disappointment.
j. b.
Best burger I’ve ever had in England. Absolutely delicious! Get yourself a Star Burger, you can thank me later
F. S.
Abousluty brilliant little find. We were on a girls weekend away and needed a good dinner, we came across the Star and we were so glad we did. Wonderful staff, beautiful decor, warm log burners, gorgeous garden and the most amazing roast.
It's a bit of a way from where we live but I will be back next time I'm passing for sure.
J. T.
Called in for Brunch after walking in the area, lovely pub, friendly staff and excellent food
J. S. (.
Great food, beautiful decor and lovely staff. Slightly pricey and difficult to get a table (or to park), but doesn't detract from how nice it was. A great stop-off for food if you're at the nearby attraction!
s. e.
Lovely place. Very friendly. Only went for a drink. The meals I saw looked fantastic albeit large for me. Lots of choice
A. M.
One of the most enjoyable home cooked bar meals I have ever had. Beautiful environment. Friendly helpful staff. Would definitely recommend.
K. S.
Enjoyed stopping here, travelled a long way from North Wales visiting Alton Towers! So we needed food so thought we give this place a try. Fantastic little place for food and drink lovely staff, food was fantastic couldnt fault it reasonably priced too. Highly reconmend 😁 thank you.
Keith and family
J. H.
One of the best places we have eaten, the food was fantastic. Lovely staff and great little pub!
E. G.
Beautiful food, lovely restaurant, and great staff. A perfect way to finish off our trip to Alton.
A. W.
Really nice place, great service and good food for a lunchtime, decent choice of beer too!
R. H.
Fantastic and friendly staff. Went out of their way more than once. Great with the kids as well. Food was delicious and quick. Can't recommend highly enough! Beer was great and the beer garden was lovely. Inside was cosy and very nice.
A. F.
Best food in the area by a long way. Very nice place to go to.
G. K.
The new team at the Star are doing a great job, particularly in current times. Food and service spot on. All faith in the pub going strength to strength. Highly recommended.
j. c.
Amazing food, amazing staff, was very friendly and a great place for a family meal at the end of the day.
A. H.
Wonderful Sunday sharing board and amazing staff x
C. T.
Lovely setting, mixed reviews on food though. I had a Mexican halloumi burger with paprika fries which was lovely, another member of my party had the vegetarian lasagna however and it was so dry she had to leave it
M. S.
Cannot fault this place- what a find! Staff are so attentive, food is incredible, pub is gorgeous.
A. P.
Not the cheapest place but the food was first class with very friendly and helpful service.
There are a good selection of drinks and tea/coffee reasonable.
Lovely deserts.
Toilets clean.
Parking limited.
Ignore the sign outside that implies they serve food every day. No food on Monday.
S. M.
Great vegan options! I had never had banana blossom fish and chips before but would definitely recommend them.
M. V.
Nice small pub. It looks refurbished and it is very cosy. Staff there is friendly and food good. I don't normally use salt but I had to put some on my steak and chips. It was little bit blunt.
S. K.
Great food, great staff. Looked after us wonderfully. Grand daughters 3rd birthday, nothing too much trouble.
S. L.
Excellent service and quality tasty food, I would recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
A. H.
Best burger I've had in a while!
M. E.
Lovely little country pub! Very friendly staff, dogs are welcome outside but not inside. Fresh tasty food for vegetarians and gluten free options.
G. D.
Very clean abided by the regilations 5m apart very friendly .staff helpful friendly . Facilites i.e toilets showers not open 16th april can recommend highly good stay
J. B.
Lovely meal and stunning inside pub , let down slightly by the staff were very young and were out there depth with the Corona virus social distancing , but would definitely recommend
J. E.
Very nice food, service was quite poor. An hour and a half wait for food, no further drink orders without having to go to the bar (and wait for 5 minutes for someone to come out of the back) and request someone come to the table.
P. T.
Great food and cosy atmosphere. I love the brie in honey starter. Just a small dish, but the perfect start to a meal. The bar area and upper restaurant is fabulously cosy in all seasons, but in the winter, the wood burning stoves are a real treat
M.
Lovely service, brilliant food!
D. G.
Wonderful food and service ... Thank you and see you soon !
S. H.

J. E.
Beautiful pub, lovely garden area, fantastic food and service. All staff very welcoming, glad we stopped by!
D. W.
Great find, cosy little pub with good quality food, wasn't very busy which meant service was reasonable, attentive and helpful staff and had no trouble what so ever a very diverse mix of clientele due to being the closest pub to Alton towers, carpark on the small side and local parking is sparse so give yourself time for arriving and parking.
R. G.
Fantastic food. Great portion size. Great selection of beers
T. C.
Lovely halloumi burger. Nice staff. Good food. Nice outdoor seating in the sun. Not far from the theme park.
d. s.
