Reviews of The Buddle Inn
Old traditional pub. Very friendly staff. Good middle of the road. Lots of fish on the specials board which were good quality.
Most dishes could do with more sauce as they were a little dry. Curry was a little bland and needed some more spice.
Kids meals good with good selection. Kids ice cream was top class wit selection of sauce, sprinkles and marshmallows.
All in all a meal.
Very good pub. A little tucked away but worth seeking out, also only a few minutes walk from the IoW Coastal Path. Stopped in for a well earned snack and both the London Pride and chips were delicious. Highly recommended 👌
Food was amazing, we had Sunday roast and breakfast, rooms were modern and cosy. Service was amazing with live music when we arrived and staff friendly and accommodating
Highly recommended. Lovely pub, with great food and the people who run it are extremely nice too. One of whom ran out in the pouring rain, to return my wife's handbag that she had left behind! Will return in future trips to the Island
Great food, and friendly service - a dog friendly pub. Fireplace made it cosy. Great view of the sea.
Good to sit on the patio overlooking the sea on unusually warm March day Warm welcome too and those eating seemed well pleased
It was our first visit to this pub and it won’t be our last! The food was absolutely lovely the scotch egg was gorgeous and the burgers were amazing. And the smoked applewood cheese croquettes are definitely worth a try! Just a shame there’s not more of them 😂
We have visited a lot in the past so we're hoping for good things. We were sadly disappointing. Menu is very limited if you don't eat fish. 5 of 10 dishes available are fish. No veg served with steak or salad with burger nor available separately. Small portions for a pub and the high price. Sadly we won't be returning.
Lovely pub, nice staff, good beer, but not much choice on the menu, and no specials board. Would come back for a drink, in the lovely garden, but sadly, not for food.
We spent a week in Niton as we do every Easter and used The Buddle Inn regularly throughout the week! The new team are amazing and the food spot on! The new referb has really lightened up the pub! Can't wait to see you next year! Thanks Rich & Bec
Cosy old world pub ,amazing fireplace, lots of charm, brilliant sea views.
We just had drinks. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was nice.
Sunday the 28th of May.
We decided to go out for the afternoon and ended up at the Buddle. We were greeted in the garden, and was told there were no tables available,( as we had not booked). and they were expecting a big crew of people. But was told you can have a drink at the bar if you like.
Not a good start.
On entering the pub we were very surprised to see it empty,( not one person sitting at the tables.)
This time we was greeted by a very friendly, helpful barman, on ordering our drinks, we mentioned that we wanted to eat but was told there was no tables available, he looked rather surprised. And went to speak to the person that had greeted us outside, on his return he said you can sit anywhere inside or out, wherever you like there's no problem. We sat at one of the tables outside. Our server was happy, friendly and helpful. The food was lovely,
In our opinion your meet and greet guy needs more training, as it could have lost you money in your till!
If it wasn't for your barman, how many others have been greeted this way.
Delicious food, incredible views and really friendly staff! Highly recommend
A gorgeous country pub overlooking the sea. The smell of authentic pub, beer and food cooking was alluring and will surely be back to sample the food. Settled for a pint of cider and crisps in the sun and beer garden. Fantastic village, and walks to keep anyone occupied for a day or two.
Food is basic but tasty, like the option of smaller plates. Staff and service was great. Love the building and the location. Will be back.
Fantastic pub, with a great menu and super attentive staff. Can recommend the sandwiches looking out at the sea view.
Beautiful pub overlooking the sea, food was good, a bit pricey but not too bad,
Fantastic old pub with views out over the channel. We had a perfect sunny spot in the garden to relax after a long walk. Food was good excellent quality, including a homemade tartar sauce that might have been the best I’ve ever had. Plus really enjoyed their exclusive IPA. Staff were lovely and chatty too.
A pub that has managed to maintain its character serving good food and excellent service. I thought the food price was a little high in comparison but very tasty.
Everything about this pub was fantastic!! The manager was an excellent host, friendly, accommodating and told great stories. The view from the garden at our table in the middle looked out onto the ocean. The pub is dog friendly, so we took our little pup and is also great for kids and adults. The food was delicious and the gin cocktails were 👍
Would go back, a full 5 ⭐️
Lovely pub in a glorious location. We enjoyed a delicious couple of pints, only downside was slow service at the bar.
Lovely outdoor seating with a great view.
Fast and friendly service.
Changed a starter into a main as there is not a great veggie choice however it was good they did that and what we got was very good.
This place is good and full of character. Let down by significant amounts of litter on the way in and needs some emergency weeding. In addition, ran out of Yorkshire puddings on a Sunday (notcadvisedbuntil food arrived) v disappointing and no price adjustment made. Excellent choice if real ales served well.
Despite an event being on, our food came faster that it took to wait for a table! Staff were charming and friendly. Dog friendly, beautiful views, extensive gin collection, child friendly. Possibly difficult for wheelchair users.
In cold weather open fire! Lovely atmosphere, regular events and generous portions.
Good was good, although menu was not very extensive. Lots of seating inside and outside with nice views.
Allergy menu was good, but many things weren't suitable for our allergy sufferer.
Friendly staff who fitted us into their last available table. It was a damp evening so we had to sit inside and unfortunately our table was near the toilets, the external loo doors were wedged open which meant bright lights and hand dryer noise faced us all evening. Suggest these tables are removed from dining as an option. Food was average for pub grub. Would try them again on a sunny day and chosen different menu options. Location is great.
Had a roast dinner here last year and have meaning to write a review, was visiting the island for a few days and came across this lovely pub whilst en route to the lighthouse. They were extremely busy but managed to fit us in after our visit to the lighthouse. The roaring open fire was as welcoming as the staff. There was a guy singing at the bar which gave the pub a great atmosphere and the roast dinner was one of the best we had ever tasted, would highly recommend and will definetly be back when we're next on the island.
Generous portions, delicious food and excellent customer service. 4 or 5 vegan mains on the menu. They even whipped up a vegan dessert for us. Lovely tranquil location too.
Great first family post covid indoor bar experience, went there as a group of 5 and had three courses of food, with real ale. Due to covid the condiments are sachets, which is fine but unfortunately the cheapest variety and poorest quality is being used and let's the food down. The service was friendly and professional and the environment was very relaxing. Our starters were really good and we were very positive about everything, the paprika chicken burgers and plant based burger were very dry dishes. The real ale went down well, would definitely recommend and return, maybe try the roast dinners next time as they looked fantastic!
What a warm and friendly place. I have quite a few food intolerances and the staff were absolutely brilliant. The chef came to see to find out what I could eat and what he could do for me, the end result was spot on, a really yummy meal. Thank you so much for a lovely evening, you have made my holiday!
Phoned them at short notice after getting a tip from a local. They went the extra mile to accommodate us and the food and ambience was excellent. A very popular place, so booking is important but worth all the effort. Old smugglers haunt in beautiful surroundings with a great view of the sea from the gardens. Plenty of parking and the staff were brilliant.
The pub is dog friendly and in a nice location near to the coast and landmark Catherine"s lighthouse. I visited twice. During an afternoon for a drink only and one evening for a meal and drink. Both are expensive, but many places on the island are taking advantage of tourism. I feel sorry for the locals having to pay the premium.
The real ale was in good condition, but a £1 more a pint than another pub I tried in nearby Ventnor. Food was also expensive and only average. I tried a steak and ale pie and it was poor compared to my benchmark of a good homemade pie served in one of my local pubs in Northamptonshire and at £14 it was more expensive and just came with mash, garden peas and gravy. I also had a soup £6 50 and desert £7 (!), which were both OK.
In a local IOW guide Character Inn's (the pub chain that own this pub) advertised a 10% discount if you downloaded their app. I went to their website and couldn't find the app. I sent a message to them about this, but they didn't answer my question and when I wrote a second time I got no reply. Very bad, as well as being rude. Hence I cancelled my booking for a second meal (and also because my food on the first visit was only average). Glad I did as I went to a much better pub instead 😉
Not really recommended although seems popular with tourists and locals.
Great food and beautiful location! One of the highlights of our Isle of Wight stay. We had fish cakes and a brisket sandwich and soup which were great. Friendly and helpful service and child-friendly!
Excellent Sunday roast and pudding. Very friendly staff and a great location. We lucked out catching it on the last night of opening for the season.
Came to a wedding vows renewal September 8th 2022. What a wonderful setting everything was perfect staff were so friendly and food was excellent. I am coming to the island again this May 23 and I intend to visit again and bring my family for a drink 🍻 Lynne. 🙂🙂
Amazing location to start with, especially when the sun is out and sitting in the garden. Great choice of food on the menu, friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit
We had a delicious Christmas dinner, including fabulous roast potatoes with both the turkey and vegetarian option. Very friendly and welcoming. And there was a singer/guitarist too! A great way to spend Xmas Eve evening!
A lovely traditional pub, with a great atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and helpful. ( Ellen was brilliant) Food was very good. Looking forward to coming back.
First visit, seems like a lovely pub. We're going back tomorrow for lunch so watch this space... 4* so far.
Popular place and not surprised. This is a lovely old pub with real smugglers history and loads of character. Made to feel genuinely welcome and the young staff are vibrant and efficient. Sarah and Jade in particular were excellent. Great menu and the food is excellent. The seabass dish was so good we both went back and had the same again! Social distancing and covid 19 measures could not be faulted.
Will go back a second time to check i did not turn up on just a bad day but food was over priced for what you got. Think your paying for the location as sitting outside on a sunny day with a cold pint would be perfect.
The pub itself - as a building - is really lovely, with a great atmospheric ambiance. Live music, open fires, cosy, but yet large - clean toilets and great service. The food however I thought was very standard - nothing special, but the presentation of the menu leads you to believe it's great, but it isn't - it's just very standard, with nothing special compared to a Wheterspoon, or Taylor Walker pub. Go in for a beer, enjoy the charming views of the sea in the distance and relax if you're in the area.
Wonderful old worlde pub, fantastic staff makes up for disappointing food. Nothing particularly wrong with it, just some elements don't work - the "famous" Eton Mess is pure whipped cream with only the slightest hint of meringue 🥺 however would probably go back just for the staff and location 😁
They do the best chips on the island- maybe even the country, which is the reason why we always have to go there when visiting the island! Service is very good and the food is delicious of which they have local produce such as Ventnor caught crab. Great views, parking, and warm open fire inside.
Fantastic location. Great staff who are all very friendly and made you feel comfortable. The food was excellent. Will definitely be coming back.
Fantastic place with excellent service. A selection of food is quite impressive! They do have tables outside in the shade, so you can enjoy lovely views with a good meal in a sunny day!
Found this absolute gem of a pub through trip advisor. Booked online and got a confirmation the next day.
Fantastic evening with friendly service and amazing fresh local food.
Not sure how the staff stay so positive and welcoming after hearing some absolutely disgraceful customers treating them like trash. One waitress was in tears at how a customer spoke to her but i saw the rest of the staff rallying round to cheer her up and somehow they were all still polite and accommodating to these rude people. It's clear to see the industry is suffering after covid but rather than noticing that these poor people are working insanely hard to accommodate a busy season and sometimes very rude people, some seem to instead treat them like robots. If you're going to a restaurant/cafe/pub these days try to remember that anyone working there has probably worked a 90hr week, barely slept or eaten and is still there smiling serving you fresh scrumptious food! They deserve a medal and all the support in the world right now.
Our food came in a timely manor and was delivered by a friendly and helpful young waitress. The same one who i later saw get torn to shreds by a rude customer shouting that they had waited ages for their bill. I was sat on the next table, they waited no longer than 5 minutes and in that time the waitress had taken food to another table so it'snot like she was standing about doing nothing! She was very sweet and polite in the face of what was an unnecessarily rude attack on her character by this horrid loud man!
So a massive THANK YOU to the entire buddle team for being fantastic, accommodating, hard working, welcoming and putting up with so many impolite people! Hang in there. You're all amazing, the service was fabulous, the food second to none. I will be back and will gladly recommend you to all of my friends!
A beautiful and welcoming environment, however we all had a Sunday roast and although the meat was beautifully tender, the roast potatoes were hard and were burnt at the bottom, the vegetables were hard as if they were blanched and not cooked thoroughly.
Cosy country pub by the sea, Sunday lunch was perfect, and the chocolate brownies were divine. Seating available outside and dog friendly.
Really nice location right by the coast. The gent who served us was super nice and provided a great service. Food very reasonably priced and came out perfect.
Lovely old pub.Lovely garden and views.
Good food and drinks choice and friendly staff.
Great for a walk to the ckiffs and lighthouse then a slap up meal.Well worth the drive!
Nice food, good quality for the price and great view of the sea outside. Disappointed that adding bacon for £1 to a burger meant one small streaky bacon slice (expected it to be at least 2/3 small slices or 1 very large slice), otherwise good trip.
Found this place by accident on a walk. Stopped in for a drink and ended up eating as the food coming out looked so good! Staff really friendly, service excellent. Would absolutely recommend! Will be back when next in the area.
Lovely place great food only let down by the fact many of the benches outside are rotting full stop during lunch one of the benches our party was sat at actually broke thankfully in front of a member of staff. The staff acted quickly and moved us to another bench and gave us complementary drinks as an apology. Whilst this was a nice touch the table we were moved to was not in a fit state to be fully sat at due to obvious rotting of the seats. If the public house improves the quality of the benches this place will be a brilliant place to visit.
Loved spending an evening here recently. Staff members are truly joy to deal with. Everyone was welcoming and accommodating beyond belief. Really enjoyed the atmosphere, food, drink and surroundings. I highly recommend a visit there🌊❤️🍷
Enjoyed a fantastic Sunday roast a couple weekends ago with a group of friends. I would definitely say this awesome Inn is a must visit for people staying on the Isle of Wight!
Out walking with friends and recommended this pub. Lovely food and beers. Quiet place to eat outside and with a sea view. Worth a visit
Beautiful evening to sit in the garden for our meal and take in the amazing view! Such a lovely location and the food was perfect too.
Lovely all round. The staff here made us feel so welcome and couldn't be more friendly and attentive. Very Covid secure without spoiling the experience. Delicious fresh hot food. Would highly recommend
Loved this place. Great atmosphere, awesome food, brilliant beers (ales), and stunning sea views. A pub not to be missed.
Possibly the best pub I've ever eaten in. Lovely decoration and gorgeous food. Sea bass risotto especially nice. Friendly staff even made dog happy with a biscuit.
Food was wonderful and atmosphere overall was lovely. We also received a lovely surprise discount as we were celebrating a special occasion. We look forward to visiting again next time we are on the island.
Had a lovely evening here. All v well organised - we’d booked in advance but were allowed to sit down early which was great. V tasty food, a lovely atmosphere and amazing views from this beautiful old inn.
Incredible food, think we've tried a vast amount over the last few days ☺
The staff are amazingly friendly and accommodating, always found us a table when they were ridiculously busy
Thank you for introducing us to rhubarb and ginger gin fizz and snowball with vodka 😊
We'll be recommending you to all on the mainland that's for sure!
And how bloody freaky seeing Lisa, an old school chum after 34 years! Wow!
Donna and Gary 🥂
Fab old pub, stone floors and beams n stuff. Tucked away it's sits with a perfect view out to the English Channel. In the autumn they start the log fire and theres a variety of different music acts...food is top rated pub food..go sit in the garden, watch the sea and enjoy!
Great food, nice selection of beers and neat location, staff where all very friendly and worked hard to make sure we had an enjoyable evening. Worth a visit.
Great service and lovely food. A bit keen to clear the plates before we'd finished but overall definitely worth a visit. The views are great.
Lovely place, nice food with a varied choice. Quality atmosphere. Thoroughly recommended.
Found this pub around the corner from the Enchanted Manor where we were staying. So staggering distance!! Fantastic food &
staff were amazingly friendly - thank you - hope to return one day.
Really nice pub, a little off the beaten track, but well worth visiting, good selection of local beers spirts and cider, had Sunday lunch great food helpful and friendly staff would go again.
A really good lunch very friendly and welcoming even though we hadn't booked! Food was delicious and well done will go back soon.
I have been to the Buddle Inn several times recently and even on a hot and busy day, Beth has managed to fit us in without a booking and the service has been amazing! Great to have somewhere with friendly and professional staff - thank you!
Beautiful pub run by a lovely, friendly team offering excellent customer service. The food is excellent, highly recommend.
Great pub, very good food and great atmosphere, I recommend it. We stayed here for one night
