Reviews of Penhelig Arms Hotel
N. C.
Would definitely recommend booking online as it gets quite busy here.
Lovely location on the sea front, with stunning views from the front court yard on the opposite side of the road to the pub.
We had dinner and dessert, and the food was good simple pub food. Service was fast and we would definitely return.
A. M.
Friendly and attentive outside staff . Typical hotel prices. £9 for a large glass of white wine and half a pint of peroni lager. Nice and close to Penhelig train station if you dont want to drink drive. On the sea front opposite the hotel has picnic type benches, have lovely estuary and sea views. Great place to relax outside.Limited parking for max 5 cars I guess but lots of parking available opposite the train station in a car park. Short walk into Aberdovey town with all the delights it has on offer.
S. T.
Beautiful comfortable rooms with a great view. Very friendly staff and a lovely breakfast.
J. R.
First time eating here despite coming to Aberdovey annually for the last decade. Not sure how we've managed to pass it without going in before now, but we managed to get a late booking and really happy we did. Really friendly and helpful staff, excellent food at a reasonable price and fantastic view across the estuary. Will definitely be back next year!
G. E.
Friendly staff Lovely view from the room you have to be good at the dudley 2 step to get around the bed the bathroom is a tad small be carefull when sitting on the toilet you could end up with abit of a shock off the toilet roll holder 😀 .but all in all a lovely place to visit many thanks .
J. O.
So welcoming. I felt I was visiting family. Food was great. My room was clean and very comfortable. In the morning I opened my curtains to an amazing Sun rise and view over the river to the sea.
D. T.
Located in Aberdovery heaven my heaven on earth.
Suite was ideal.
Highly recommend a visit plus Brains beers and fabulous food.
T. B.
Not up to normal high standards. Sunday roast good and waitress very courteous and polite. However, table not ready when we arrived for 2.45pm despite our reservation. Unable to offer any deserts as had run out of everything except ice cream. Did put a bit of a dampener on the afternoon unfortunately
J. W.
Lovely hotel, me and my family stayed here as we were attending a wedding locally. The hotel accommodated a large party and managed to seat us all together for breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful.
S.
We pre-booked a table as it was August Bank Holiday. The food and service was great and sensibly priced. Sat outside by the sea for drinks after. Definitely recommend.

Had a fantastic stay. Having not been back for a few years we were so pleased that not much had changed. Had a couple of problems on the first night but Richard and David sorted this out very generously as it was a special birhday. Can't wait to return later in the year. And the dogs were made to feel welcome as well. Thankyou 💜🐕🐕🏴
R. R.
Food was generally good - can recommend the steak and ale pie, but the portions, especially of the side vegetables and curry were particularly miserly. Service was very rushed - I would have complained if anyone had come back to the table.
A. N.
Was a limited menu so can't judge too much. The Glamorgan sausage was recommended and it was beautiful. Good service, albeit a little flustered. Probably due to low staff numbers.

We've been coming here for quite a few years for a drink and a bite to eat but never stayed until this time...we checked in 23rd Dec and go home tomorrow 26th Dec.... it's been really great, from the start....all the staff are very friendly and professional....the food portions are extremely generous....and well cooked and presented....we will definitely stay again....so I'd just like to say thankyou to a really great team 👍👍

From booking in until we left my sister and myself were impressed by the friendliness and good humour of all the staff that we met during our stay at The Penhelig arms. The room was lovely and the beds so comfy.Although the room was warm due to the heatwave we were provided with a fan which really helped. We had dinner and breakfast which were well cooked and the staff although rushed due to staff shortages looked after us with good humour and big smiles. All in all brilliant and I am sure we shall return.
E. H.
Quite a small room, although very pleasant (I can think of ways they could have improved use of space though). It’s an old building so it has quirks & creaks that add to the appeal. The view & the location are outstanding with lovely estuary views. Car parking is available opposite, but it’s quite limited. The hotel did offer to refund our costs if we used the public car park round the corner, but we managed to find a space so didn’t do that. Breakfast was nice. The lava bread is a bit of an acquired taste, but worth a try as it’s a Welsh delicacy.
R. G.
Beautiful sunny terrace overlooking the estuary A perfect place to relax and enjoy a drink and food if desired (photo taken February 2019) Unfortunately construction work going on next to the Hotel and probably for the rest of the summer!! (edited June 2021)
Adjoining building work is continuing through the winter Most outside seating is basic uncomfortable picnic benches The 'garden' benches with back support alongside the path with the beautiful estuary view -HAVE NOW BEEN REINSTATED as of Jan 2022 Thank you (edited 27/1/22)
C. G.
An excellent Christmas Day meal, well presented and food prepared to a high standard, level of customer service was high and contributed to score above
n. H.
We had booked a dog friendly table inside but the wonderful staff accommodated us eating outside. The manager went out of his way to let us eat outside which we really appreciated. Daisy, who waited on us, is a credit to the company. She always remembers us and our dogs, always stops to chat and nothing is too much trouble. Even the chef exceeded our expectations - not only was our food really delicious but we had asked for sausages for our dogs birthday and he went above and beyond to provide a huge plate of tasty sausages for them. We all had the best Easter Sunday meal.
P. R.
Our three night stay in a well-appointed, spacious, clean and very comfortable balcony suite was delightful. Our dog was also made welcome within the main hotel. All staff were so friendly and helpful. Meals were all of good quality and value.
This was our fifth stay at The Penhelig and it continues to be our first choice for a seaside break, due to its great, welcoming service and brilliant location. We’ll be booking again very soon!
J. E.
The lady who took our food order and delivered it outside to our table was lovely!
She was very pleasant and chatty and helpful, a huge asset to the establishment. Food was brilliant! I had chicken burger with chips and hubby had steak & chips both mesls were delicious and plentiful!
Will definitely go back again had a lovely day! Beautiful weather sat by the sea eating good food just perfect!
L. S.
Lovely atmosphere in the Penhelig Arms! Great food and drinks served by very friendly staff. Dogs made welcome. Our greyhound made herself comfortable, and loved the doggy treats on the bar! Well worth a visit in you're in Aberdovey! Highly recommend!
G. M.
Service and food great! Barry is a real asset to the place. Waiting staff were polite, professional and proficient. Fish and chips delicious.
My only negative was booking through the call centre. I asked for a table in the bar because I was bringing the dog. The table was booked for the restaurant. Fortunately, Barry was able to sort us out with a table in the bar.
Call centre staff have no idea how each venue is set up, it's impossible. I would prefer to book directly with the venue.
L. S.
My mother and I (and the dog) stayed a couple of weeks ago for 2 nights. The team members were very welcoming. The rooms were spacious and clean and the beds were very comfortable. We would highly recommend this establishment and we are rebooking again soon.
G. C.
Visited last week and enjoyed our meals very much. My friend had a vegetarian pasta dish and I had gammon and eggs, both very tasty. I had a pimms and she had a small beer. For dessert we both had Welsh cakes, warmed up with butter and a tea or coffee. The Welsh cakes were so good, I recommend that option if none of the desserts appeal. We had a young lady and man serving us. The young lady in particular was very attentive and apologised for the wait, which we hadn’t even noticed. Apparently two new chefs were due to start the following day so things were a bit hectic with only one chef on duty. The ladies toilets were lovely and clean. Would recommend.
G. J.
We had a lovely roast lunch and Barry and Daisy kept us topped up with drinks as well as serving the food A BIG THANK YOU also to the chef for some lovely food (we had extra portions, obviously needed for our pet Staffy) The food was absolutely lovely, better portions than London!! We recommend visiting here if you can!!!!
M. C.
This is our 2nd visit to Penhellig, we enjoyed a sea view room, last time we had a suite, which was amazing. We found the room clean and spacious. We had travelled from Cardiff so it was great that we were able to have a table for dinner.as after a long drive, did not feel like going out again.
P. E.
Before Covid this was a really great place, always full of local, which is always a good sign.
This was the first visit post covid and how it had changed. The bar was empty and it had music blaring out. Bar staff were less than courteous. So disappointed, maybe it was a bad day!!!!
C. D.
Most of the staff were wonderful and attentive, however, we contacted the hotel via phone before checking in and had a very poor experience with the man who answered.
Food was good, standard pub grub.
J. S.
Lovely atmosphere, Rachel our waitress was fabulous, food lovely
D. L.
Great location near the water and train station. The room was a little warm and did not have a hair dryer. Overall great staff and nice rooms.
K. M.
Booked a table for 4 last year ready for the New Year .
Took the 🐕 🐶 s for a good 🏃♀️ up the beach ⛱ . We were ready by 1 oclock to be fed . Table booked for 2 oclock but was not a problem as we were 30mins early.
Food good

Great Sunday lunch at a good price and large portion. Interesting historical building. Clean loos. Recommend
p. W.
We have stayed here numerous times and always have a lovely time Dave and the rest of the staff are warm and welcoming and we look forward to our next stay .
X. C.
Food disappointing great menu but not well executed. The calamari just wrong and the prawn cocktail unexciting. Lovely view from the beer garden.
C. P.
A lovely friendly hotel , great for dogs . Good food, lovely clean room, and very convenient for the railway station so great for us as we came by train !
J. D.
Nice log burner and friendly staff - VERY bright in the bar area, could do with dimming a touch. Car park is super small - like 4 cars, but there is a reasonably priced (£2.20 for 4 hours - cash or mobile payment) public car park a 2 minute walk round the corner. Outside area is nice and app works really well.
T. F.
Service ok meal came out wrong but one if the party wouldn't complain, food portions but small and unexciting. Wouldn't recommend.
J. L.
Nice cozy rooms with views to kill for. Lovely food. Friendly staff. If you have mobility problems I wouldn't recommend as staircase is very tight.
A. G.
Dined last night for steak night, Nathan served us with efficiency and cheerfully. Meal was good too
R. W.
Just back from a lovely week in Aberdovey. We tried the Penhelig Arms a few times based on the reviews.
Firstly, the staff were accomodating and friendly. However, the Brains food on offer was overpriced, and of the same disppointing standard as found in most of its outlets.
Home cooked food would enhance the reputation and appeal of this pub.
G. F.
We dropped by just before food service started at noon and sat outside with our dog taking in the sea views. Staff were really helpful and friendly, checking on us regularly and making sure we were fine being outside when a few spots of rain started. The food was fresh, warm & delicious with lots of vegan/vegetarian options & a separate children's menu, and arrived quickly as did dessert. Would definitely return when visiting again!
H. H.
Lovely decor, friendly staff, and the food looked OK but......
J. A.
Excellent hotel, staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are of a very high standard and the food is extremely good. I would highly recommend the Penhelig Arms Hotel.
P. K.
Really nice place to eat. Great service and staff and excellent food. Will definitely revisit. 💯
C.
Sitting with a drink in the outdoor section overlooking the estuary is bliss.
G. R.
Lovely food and very friendly staff especially the manager. Will 100% be staying again. Thank you
s.
It’s been a couple of years but back again for W’Ton2Aber cycle event. What a fab day and another great stay at The Pen, such a warm welcome from the team there. Great overnight stay, and a fabulous breakfast to send us off home - THANKYOU..
P. 5.
Very disappointing 😞. This use to be the go to place for food in Aberdovey. The menu was not inviting and the welcome was uninspiring. We use to love it here. I doubt we will return
J. W.
Love this pub, best 🍻 good food 🌞 terrace with sea view! Amazing.
D. G.
Nicely kept Brains beers, comfortable bar and great outdoor area over the road with views over the estuary.
D. P.
Stay was OK. But not made very special considering it was our return there 49 years to the day after we got married. Some of the staff were brilliant. Others indifferent and disinterested. Obvious staffing issues. Overpriced.
J. L.
Friendly welcome, very accommodating staff and new general manager, large room overlooking the sea was lovely, food in the restaurant delicious (fish and chips were just the best), lovely breakfast.
Parking is very limited at the hotel but being on a motorcycle meant we could squeeze into a food space.
S. L.
Great little pub.
Beer garden right by the sea.
What could be better
T. C.
Beautiful rooms, stunning views, great food, lovely customer service so dog friendly, can't fault it.
H. E.
The pub was lovely and the staff were friendly. The suite we had was nice and clean with lovely views over the estuary. The only thing that let it down was the food we had on the Sunday evening. We were told it was a chicken roast for 2 to share but the meat was a let down, it looked nothing like chicken, very dark meat and not much of it. We did ask what meat it was and were assured it was chicken. The veg and potatoes were very tasty.
K. L.
Top knotch, good beer, we had two starters each for a snack as we are dining later and they were excellent. Great outdoor area and very friendly staff. Well recommended!!
D. J.
Nice pub with outside seating across the road and apparently good rooms too if you need a night away.
C. B.
Popped in for a nice family meal. The food was decent, though I'd prefer the meat to be a higher quality for the price (I'm not saying it was bad!).
The staff were great, especially the young lady who served us. She was chatty, friendly and great with all the kids.
I would happily return. Thank you.
P. K.
Good food, excellent view and a well kept beer. Dogs allowed in the bar, a god send if it's raining.
T. B.
Great views sitting outside across the road. Cosy pub, traditional wood/stone interior. Service standard and welcome are abit hit and miss though.
L. L.
We visited the Penhelig with our baby son and our puppy, The staff and front desk manager were consistently helpful and friendly. Couldn’t have asked for a better atmosphere, service, clean modern rooms, delicious fresh and varied foods, they accommodated us even with our boisterous boys 😅 thank you so much for making our family’s little getaway so much more special, we will always remember this hotel and hope to return 💙 10/10
D. H.
Nice pub ,good food too had the farmer's grill very nice
A. T.
Excellent food, good beers friendly
Staff - recommended
T. R.
Fabulous food and friendly staff. Beautiful setting.
c. c.
The staff harri, Amy, Alisha and baz were very attentive and helpful. Nothing was to much trouble and they were very polite. And the food was really good.
T. P.
Very comfortable and friendly hotel with excellent food and drink, rooms are pleasant and very clean and beautiful views of the bay from the hotel.
C. K.
Friendly welcome great food definitely stay again 👍
J. A.
Lovely staff, nice food and dog friendly
M. B.
Had a lovely two night break here via a Travelzoo voucher, excellent value, very comfortable, excellent breakfast.
Lovely meal in the restaurant on the first night, unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, the kitchen was closed on the second night, so had to find an alternative, which was disappointing.
Would definitely recommend though, and the staff are excellent
C. F.
Beautiful room, great affordable food, excellent staff, right on the coast, what more can I say!
S. U.
Staff here are full of life and banter. You can tell they love their customers and want to do right by them.
The hotel is around the back of the pub, which means it's very easy to get back to your room when you need a break. To top it off, some great views outside on the garden and from the hotel rooms
I. “. B.
Terrific location overlooking the estuary. Food obviously pub grub but a nice range beautifully presented. Above all the most attentive, professional and hard working staff. Nothing is too much trouble all of them happy and chatty. A joy to stay.
C. O.
Had meal on Friday evening . Food good, service good. Toilets disgusting. Toilet paper all over the floor. Won’t say any more. Would not have eaten there if I’d used faculties first.
R. K.
Enjoyed a drink and a quick bite overlooking the harbour. The lady serving the drinks was very pleasant and friendly as was the chap who brought the food. Had a burger and chips, very tasty. Would visit again if in the area.
D. C.
Our second visit to eat.lovely food and very friendly and helpful staff, making it an attractive venue. Particular call out to Carys for friendly professional service on the night.
C. M.
Very friendly and helpful staff, great views, lovely large rooms, great food and excellent value.
Well done will definitely stay here again.
i. a.
Great welcome, clean comfortable and stylish room. Dinner was delicious and even a fussy gluten free vegetarian was catered for. Great service and views. Would definitely stay again
D. M.
Stayed for a 2 night break, large bedroom on the front of the hotel with views over the estuary and hills.
Room was spacious with bathroom ensuite, immaculately clean with plenty of teas, coffee, milk and hot chocolate also a Tassimo with plenty of pods.
Bed was very comfortable
Very enjoyable cooked breakfast and staff were friendly, approachable and helpful.
Parking to the rear of the hotel.
Great area outside overlooking the dyfi estuary with plenty of tables to enjoy a drink.
Would recommend and will return
C. C.
The staff are so super friendly food is amazing whole experience was wonderful it was so good that we came back agin following night
J. P.
Awesome, top quality experience. Staff were friendly and made extra effort.
P. D.
Good food and accomodation. Parking restricted. Public car park, pay and display under railway bridge, about 150m away.
S. H.
Had a lovely pint outside in the sunshine over looking the estuary. One of my favourite pubs in Dyfi.
D. L.
Have been coming here for 35 years and this year, due to Covid, not quite as good as previous occassions.
The new, very friendly staff are learning really fast and it will be back to its best in time for the summer break.
It will be great to stand at the bar and have some banter with the staff very soon.
G. S.
Had a fantastic 2 nights. Food amazing, 10 out of 10 for the Chef, room 12 beautiful. The only complaint was the bar staff on Sunday and Monday during the day time. They were both lacking customer service skills and a smile
P.
Great beer and seating overlooking the estuary.
S. G.
As a pub, it's ok. Part of a chain. Beer average, but well kept. Haven't tried the bar food, but it'll be chain ok. There's a restaurant I haven't tried and it has bedrooms.
C. T.
Great staff and nice outdoor seating. Love to come up here for a drink and some snacks. Would definitely recommend if you're staying in the area.
D. W.
Nice hotel in a pretty little village just a few yards walk from the station. My (single) room was small, but comfortable and well equipped, with a beautiful sea view. Bar and restaurant were both deservedly popular in the evenings (I wasn't there at lunchtimes). Real ale is only from the Brains range but there were several choices and those I tried were well kept. Excellent breakfasts served by a very friendly and cheerful lady.
P. R.
Lovely food, comfortable setting and wonderful staff - could not have asked for more!
C.
OK food, we had been lead to believe the food here was outstanding but it was the same as in the Dovey arms, very basic, nothing to make you want to go back. The staff were lovely though.
S. M.
What a wonderful find! Couldn’t have been more welcoming! The dog loves it too. Will definitely be back. Jim and his lovely wife doing a marvellous job.
R. J.
Visited here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Great location perched on the roadside and looking out over the bay. The atmosphere inside was pleasant and cosy. Comfy seating and good selection of drinks. Let downs were the speed of food service (45 minutes for a Prawn Cocktail) and then when the food arrived it wasnt worth the wait in that the prawns were tasteless. I would revisit however.
R. J.
Lovely place right on the sea front, very comfortable rooms. Dog friendly. Limited parking but there is a public car park close by. Food was good but what I would call pub grub. Very friendly staff. Would stay there again.
F. S.
Lovely seaside pub and restaurant. Nice and homely. Covid safe. Great food and very friendly hosts. Prices are very good. Would definitely recommend. Vegan options as well.
H. R.
Went here for Sunday lunch and it was fabulous. I had a delicious mushroom and cashew Wellington, husband had roast turkey. Sticky toffee puds were a-maz-ing! Restaurant area, where we were, was nice; bar area looked a little like it had seen better days. Food definitely recommended. Very friendly service.
a. m.
Nice enough hotel. Drinks typically hotel prices. £20.80 for a bottle of sauvignon blanc, but you cant fault the sea views sat at the outside tables.
A. L.
Had a lovely lunch sitting outside. Sandwiches were delicious. Fabulous views over the estuary.
M. M.
Great experience. Absolutely fantastic wine, incredibly fresh calamari starter. Great seafood pasta and buttermilk chicken main. And the salted caramel dessert was really something special. Dogs allowed in bar area. We are looking forward to going again.
M. H.
Very friendly and welcoming place. Great food, dog friendly. Highly recommend.
H. R.
We stayed on a Saturday night for my mum's 60th birthday. Could not fault our stay. Rooms and suites were fantastic. Our evening meal and breakfast were wonderful and staff were very helpful. We will definitely return. It was a perfect weekend.
B. D.
Very friendly staff and the Lamb steak was very good for the evening meal. The only reason for losing a star is because you pay full adult price for the breakfast even if you have kids who don't eat alot.
G. J.
I never write reviews.... but my wife and I were discussing how an establishment got an AA 5 star rating . Just then, our food turned up and I managed to knock over my pint. The waiter sorted everything really efficiently and cleared up my mess..... and then turned up with a replacement drink. That’s 5 star. No fuss, just brilliant service. Well done
J. M.
Well here is a dilemma....the food was rather good, but there are a couple of things I feel I should comment on. This i hope is to give the proprietor some food for thought to help improve (in my opinion & to be honest I'm no professional critic).
Question is, how long is it deemed acceptible to wait for a meal to be served? In this modern times it is sometimes nice to jump off the life Express & take your time for once. Sit back & take it easy etc. But it would be nice to be informed things are happening at a more relaxed pace & would you like your drink refilling, basic customer service I should imagine. We waited an hour for our main course to be served (no starter was ordered).
Portion size of the ravioli was a tad meagre leaving the need for a dessert & the steak was not served with the sauce as advertised.
I don't want to sound too negative & take away from the fact that the food was rather nice & staff were pleasant, but just want to give my honest opinion.
C. W.
Lovely location and excellent food. Friendly staff dealt with a couple of little errors very well, would recommend.
L. E.
We've visited the Pen a few times in the past but not for some time. Now it's been taken over by Brain's Brewery it definitely needs a refit. When we booked through Travelzoo, we asked to be moved, as the grouting in the shower was far from satisfactory. Our second room was so much better with a large bathroom & seating area in the bedroom overlooking the estuary. Would go back as Aberdovey is a lovely place.
E. R.
Fantastic place. Highly recommended, food and service amazing, very accommodating in the bar area with us having three dogs. We loved it that much we have booked a table for this evening to try there new spring/summer menu.
S. C.
From the minute we arrived a very warm welcome was afforded from Barrie and the team in this idillic location. The views were tremendous, food excellent and staff just brilliant! 100% will return and thank you for making us so comfortable after our 100m long cycle race!
D. W.
Excellent place to eat and drink. If you sit outside lovely views of estuary. With covid they have gone out there way to make u feel safe. Big thanks to Barry and Steph for always being so helpful and making us feel so welcome. Both are lovely and friendly. Top place to visit.
c. h.
good food, well presented and great meat for Sunday platter. Portions on small side. New manager doing great job. its good; could be outstanding
D. E.
Delicious food, we had the squid, duck salad for starters and steaks for mains. Really enjoyed our food and was lovely to sit out afterwards watching the sun go down over the estuary. Lovely location.
R. F.
Service a little slow but poor waiting staff running about. Needed an extra body. Ran out of lots of food. No chicken skewers. No chicken curry. No kids chicken skewers. No chocolate torte thingy. No baked Alaska no kids fruit skewers which really upset my kids. The food we did manage to order was taste and good portions. But very disappointed with overall visit. It's a bank holiday so order more food. I understand long range weather forecast was wet and it turned out really nice. I think there will be a lot of unhappy guests.
L. B.
King double room 3,beautiful and spacious breakfast lovely, staff very friendly.
V. B.
As a regular visitor to aberdovey we normally walk down to Penhelig for an evening drink when we're here. After a recent visit prices seem on the high side now and service really not that friendly. Ordered two drinks outside and then told once they arrived that we had to be gone in 5 minutes as they needed the table despite no reserved sign. Staff not particularly friendly.
R. M.
The best fish and chips for miles!
D.
Nice little bar selling good food. Welcomes dogs. Also has a restaurant dining room attached. Open fire in the bar. Parking is tight out front. Aberdovey town is beautiful, Pub has railway station near by.
S. M.
The staff were very kind of in my first impression of the 'chalet ' was that it was very nice very modern very clean I had a wonderful view of Bay and mountains. The beds were a good standard. And it was good choice in a shower or a bath.
The breakfast was really nice. They were even kind enough to make a packed lunch for us when we went out walking. We were unable to try the dinners as it was fully booked each night.
Vilage itself is quite small but very picturesque because of it. It is worth considering that to go south u have go round the bay which can take more time.
The only down side was the neighbours have dogs that barked alot .that's what comes with an animal friendly hotel
P. E.
Good food, friendly staff, nice sea views from outside.
Loos were pretty grim.
J. C.
Dropped in for Sunday lunch. Staff fairly curt but not rude. Dining area was quite small so booking essential if there's more than two. Pub was very 'local' .
Food was OK, bit pricey for what was essentially poshed up pub grub.
F. B.
A young man (staff) was very patient with me trying to put my order in on a App .and I managed it Too!! .lovely place and the lager was great .definitely return next time we in Aberdovy. Thanks .
D. F.
Well, what can we say!!! My wife has MANY food intolerances, some with very strong adverse reactions. Going out for a meal is an extremely rare occasion as it soon becomes a mine field. However, eating out at the Penhelig has been shear pleasure. They put together a meal that was really tasty, superbly presented, DELICIOUS and completely safe for my wife to eat! And then they offered ‘off the menu’ dessert! Amazing! We highly recommend a visit and we definitely will be returning!
A big ‘thank you’ to all the staff at the Penhelig!

Stayed in one of the suites behind the hotel, very nice indeed, large comfortable bed, large bathroom with separate bathroom and shower and a big seating area. Has terrace with a table and seating giving lovely views over the estuary, a nice touch is the Nespresso machine in the room.
D. D.
Beautiful location and great beer!
T. C.
A very nice hotel right next to the sea and beach. The restaurant and breakfast is great.
h.
Update 2020: the pub is now owned and run as part of the BRAINS brewery, which now means the food menu is pretty bog standard and very limited - not a single fish dish on the main course!
The former Penhelig had a wonderful menu of fresh food which won its AA accolade for culinary excellence ( which still hang from the walls despite new ownership ).
Best thing about this pub is the location, at the quieter end of Aberdifyi and overlooking the estuary.
R. D.
Friendly staff, food was good but a bit more choice would great
C.
We had Sunday dinner in the bar it was lovely the food was great, service was spot on. We paid £50 for for a 3 course dinner with a shared starter also included drinks so I was extremely pleased for such a high standard.
M. B.
Lunch time visit - amazing setting and nice food.
S.
Aberdyfi is a beautiful place so if u are lucky enough to be eating in the penhelig you will find a good menu with timely friendly service and delicious food. There are tables across from the pub where you can enjoy a refreshing drink while overlooking the scenic estuary. It isn’t for families on a budget and would say a more adult evening out where children are elsewhere but that is not to say they are not made welcome here as I have taken my daughter here to eat and she enjoyed it too
A. D.
Really enjoyed the roast here on a sunny October afternoon. Be warned though that it does get busy! We had to sit outside which was no hardship but we wouldn't have been able to get fed if it was raining.
S. C.
The staff are very helpful and we enjoyed the food. We tried downloading the app without success but the staff came over to help and before long we were sitting at a table.
S. S.
First time here. Great brains beers all the greats Rev James. Rev James gold and S A and gold a beer persons heaven. Fish and chips also very good and a view of the estuary as well
P. P.
Top draw. Service very quick, bar looks tidy even though you can see the management have to deal with the avalanche of marketing material imposed on them. Food great and rooms are adequate.
M. W.
Superb food, drink and service! In the midst of all the madness, we had a fantastic meal at the Penhelig Arms. Great service from Mike! Highly recommended
R. H.
Lovely meals, 2 nights in a row we ate here, excellent service and beautiful food. Will definitely be coming back.😊 Lucy our waitress was absolutely amazing. Thank you 😊
J. H.
Loved it! A fantastic meal and decent drinks
J. K.
Restaurant very nice, bar very comfortable, great outdoor seating with lovely views of the estuary.
D. O.
Lovely place great veiws next to the sea .
A. S.
This was my second visit here so I have stayed I both Penhelig and the Bodhelig house. Staff are wonderful, facilities are great and dogs are welcome everywhere apart from the restaurant. You can still enjoy breakfast and an evening meal with your pooch in other areas of the hotel. If you're staying in the main hotel parking is restricted but there is paid parking available near by. Access to the rooms in the main hotel may be restricted for those with limited mobility as the stairs are tight and steep. Bodhelig House is more accessible with a wider staircase, ground floor rooms and walk in showers.
M. F.
Best everything..room layout. Views facilities, staff, cost breakfast All of the highest standard. Pity very popular would stay longer.
F. C.

Breakfast great
Look forward to returning soon
c. s.
Excellent and friendly service. The room was modern and clean. Restaurant food in the evening and breakfast also of high standard. We would definitely return.
R. L.
This place used to be dire. In the last year they have got rid of the drunk woman behind the bar, the homophobic assistant manager as well as the woeful chef. While it is part of the Brains Brewery group it will never be amazing but it is pretty good for Aberdyfi.
G. C.
Had a super evening here. Very helpful and attentive staff. Superbly prepared food, well presented and the wine was on a deal!
C.
Lovely views but not the friendliest staff. Didn't eat here so can't comment on the food.
