Just a Chtistmas dinner there, it was out of this world 3 courses and a bottle of Pinot Grigio. Highly recommended, but need to book. Starter poach pear etc plus Turkey Main and Christmas Pudding for Desert. Excellent.

Lovely pub in the heart of York. Lovely young staff who worried about my friends garlic allergy. They could only offer her lettuce which she was happy with. Two packets of crisps and I had a normal starter. They were so accommodating. Lovely lads. Thank you for looking after us old ladies.

Great pub with extra dining room upstairs. Pub was enjoyable and the food was very good, but we did have some problems getting food. Kitchen wasn't taking orders due to a large group and wouldn't let us place a food order for 45 minutes after we got there. Was very frustrating with a hungry family, but fortunately there was a good beer selection to pass the time. Once the kitchen opened up to orders again service was quick and food was great!

Really nice we wanted a traditional pub feel where we could eat with our dogs. Welcoming staff and food was lovely. I've seen cauliflower steak on a few menus, but always overpriced in my.opninion so I havent bothered. Not the case here so I gave it a try. Partner had the more usual pub offering of a burger and really enjoyed it to. The Menu had some other tasty sounding dishes but we weren't hungry enough to try them unfortunately. We would come back if we visited York again.

Credit to Gus and Reece who couldn't have provided a friendlier service. They were amazing. What a gem of a pub! The food was superb and the staff were very welcoming. A special shout out to Gus and Rhys who were very welcoming to our family, including our baby and little dog. Was OK, nice place, although we didnt have our dogs with us they are very dog friendly as we shared our table with some people and their dogs. My main issue is the drinks were expensive and not amazing. We had a cheaper round elsewhere earlier in the day which was better, but it is in the centre of York.

Friendly staff and a lovely feel to the pub. Dog friendly and they gave her a treat when they brought our dinner out. The food was delicious, hot and full of flavour. There was a street act outside which added to the ambiance as you could hear everyone cheering at times. Had an oldy worldy feel to the place dispute only being there since the early 2000's! Someone's put a lot of thought into this pub and it's paid off!

A great selection of real ales, and spirits. Friendly staff, they turned up the heating for us. Cozy and a inviting old building. Didn't have to wait long but out of season. Gorgeous food, massive crispy home made chips. Fabulous steak sarnies. Low key music playing in the background. Low beamed ceilings and plenty of tables. Loved our lunch here and can recommend to all.

Absolutely lovely place - we went for drinks and also for Sunday lunch the following day. A great selection of draughts and wines, and the Sunday lunch was really tasty - and very reasonably priced - despite the excellent location in the heart of York. Service was great and staff were lovely. Would certainly visit again once in York. I would recommend booking in advance as it can be busy on the weekend. Booking system online is extremely easy.

Friday 24th January 2020. My Wife and I were having a short break staying in York as part of my Birthday Celebrations. We left our Hotel looking for somewhere to have an evening meal. After looking at all the places to eat we stumbled across Duke of York, It was a busy pub.I asked the barman if they had a table for two. He came from behind the bar and took us upstairs to a cosy table. We took advantage of the Friday night Special, two steaks and a bottle of wine for £35.00, not really knowing what to expect. Well I can honestly say that It was one of the best pub meals we have had. The steak was cooked to perfection! The chips were proper chunky homemade tasty chips. And the wine was great. We also had a dessert for an extra £5.95 each, which was sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream which was delicious. Overall the food, venue, staff and value for money was fantastic. I recommend that anyone looking for a great dining out experience for just under £50.00 this place will take some beating. We will definitely be back soon!

Leeds ales always good and worth the extra. However staff need updating on how to serve gin and tonics. Ratio should be 4:1 tonic to gin and not argue when they get it wrong by drowning the single gin. Please train your service staff!

This lovely, toasty warm, candle-lit pub was just the ticket on blowy, snowy, rainy day. Lively atmosphere without being loud. Interesting and eclectic objects scattered throughout add a nice touch. Very friendly and welcoming staff shared their recommendations for grub, as most of it was unfamiliar to me. I settled on the pork belly, which came with carrots, parsnips, and potatoes with wilted spinach and what I think was cracking on top. I don't eat heavy English food but wanted to try something traditional. It wasn't to my taste, but for the bill, the pork was very tender, and the meal was well prepared. Though it's right in the heart of the tourist district, the Duke gets an A+ for not feeling anything like a tourist trap.

The pub itself is lovely beautifully decorated ... Cosy. I had a meal and I have to say I have no complaints about anything - drinks were good and staff (on the whole) were very friendly ... but 4 out of 5 stars only because the night was dampened by a member of the bar staff who was rude, abrupt and frankly needs training. The only way I can describe him was he was slim, young and effeminate. So if someone does read this from the pub, maybe address his attitude. I understand that during times of covid could be stressful, but the pub wasn’t that busy, this guy got really grouchy when I asked what pink gins they did and replied “we do 30” and rolled his eyes and seemed like he wanted to rush my order ... then asked if I wanted a double or single and slammed down a notice board with the prices of double and single gins. He was so unprofessional. Both me and my boyfriend felt quite awkward after. Fantastic bar apart from his attitude!

It is a great place to go to get some classic english/Yorkshire architecture. It feels very York inside. They have a wide variety of beers to choose from. I can promise that you can find a beer that you have never tasted before. The fish and chips are good and their burgers looked good. They were put of a lot of the food my table wanted to order though.

Right in the heart of the city, this large pub always has a seat and a welcome for the weary traveller. Lots of cosy areas stop the place feeling as big as it is, and a great selection of beer and gin means there's a drink for everyone.

Nice place at the top of the Shambles - relatively new (maybe a couple of years) - some nice unusual ales. Theres two maybe three separate areas and an upstairs. I've marked it down a little due to a strange but subtle smell. Staff seemed reasonably friendly and efficient. On a cold night the main bar can get a bit draughty but you'll find that out quite soon after arriving. Nice place though.

Duke is a dope place. Can en jó y your beer and enjoy one of Yorks famous street shows on the square after. Or before. Whatever your preference is. They host live music events as well, which is a a must
