Reviews of Kings Arms

Inside this pub was like stepping into the a time long forgotten. Personally I love old pubs and this one is a treat. Only looses a star as no mobile phone or technology rule is out dated. I can understand a rule of no talking on phones or not being sat glued to your phone. But I was told off in a manner that reminded me of being in school for checking the time as we were waiting for the ghost tour!
I think this rule could be more politely maintained not screeched out across the pub. Must loose them a lot of costume. I recommend a visit but beware

Love sitting by the river having a few drinks.
It is a sam smiths pub so there are a few rules when your sat inside the pub.
No mobile devices to be used. Mobile phones etc. No music. Cash only.
They want to encourage people to talk to each other. Which is a good thing.
But sat outside your not restricted on anything.
Lovely scenic setting.

A good setting alongside the river. We sat outside one evening. Very pleasant atmosphere. Rather dark inside, but it is, and old building. A bit misleading, as we asked on the Monday evening if they were doing food, as trip adviser said it does. We were told no food on a Monday evening. We returned on Wednesday evening and asked again, only to be told that they do not do food at all. Very confusing, as a sign by door says only food and drink purchased here can be confusing.

A characterful Sam Smiths pub famous for its riverside location and flood markings recording high level marks since the 1970s. It’s tiny and cosy inside, with extra outdoor seating. The toilets pong and aren’t the most hygienic, but still worth a visit for the historic experience.

A must in York, being one of the oldest pubs in the city.
The place maintains the charm of past times and makes you feel in the middle of a medieval tavern.
The staff are friendly and it has great views of the River Ouse.
The only drawback is that they only accept payment in cash.
Bring flippers in case it floods again.
