Brilliant place to eat and drink. I went here with my family and we had food from the lunch menu. We ordered both alcoholic drinks and some J2Os. The toilets were easily accessible and central, although there were only 2 female toilets and not very clean. Beautiful scenery and lovely setting, with it being an old railway place. Would recommend and come again :)

Come in today for lunch while visiting York. Great pub with friendly servers and great food. We sat outside in the garden and they were dog friendly and even provide bowls and water. Inside the pub looked great being in the cellars. Would definitely recommend and return

Only popped in for a drink; a nice, unique and quirky bar. Drinks reasonable and seemed extremely popular - took the last table. If we hadn’t booked somewhere else to eat I think we’d have tried it as the food menu looked good as well.

What a lovely place for a meal! My wife and I were in York for our anniversary and enjoyed a really nice meal here. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was great and the surroundings were the icing on the cake. Highly recommended!

We visited on a weekday lunchtime. The food was average pub fair, the staff were pleasant and attentive. I can imagine that it's a great night spot with the quirky underground room. I'd not visit again for lunch, but I would definitely venture here again on an evening.

Always love going to this place! They do some fantastic food and the staff are so accommodating, we brought my one year old brother in-law and he was a bit of a nightmare, knocked over our drink and kept crying, I can only apologise for the disruption. But the staff were so lovely, cleaned up our table, brought us another drink, it was just so kind and thoughtful by the staff. I couldn't recommend this place enough and you should always make it a priority to visit in York.

The vibe in Lendal Cellars is absolutely amazing. The music is nothing like the same boring pop songs of every pub but goes from rock to jazz to romantic, and why not, given the atmosphere! The vaulted ceilings and the lovely garden provide both the cozy feeling that's perfect for the winter and the chill peace we need for summer. Surely it's a cellar pub with interesting choices but I've also personally found it to be a great spot to study and revise before exams. The staff is nice and welcoming and makes sure the tables are clean all the time. The menu is absolutely to try, not too expensive and good quality with kids options available as well. There's the WiFi, sure, but the place just calls for a retirement from city chaos and a good chat with friends. Time well spent.

The restaurant/bar is beautifully done out could be a very romantic setting. Got some history to the building, and apparently a ghost who pushed a neighbouring tables pint off which was awesome to see. We all had burgers, the party had beef burger which all said were lovely, i had a chicken burger which was OK just very bland for my liking. The only issues we had was that the coleslaw was off and the rest rooms were dirty as in very dusty which considering we are in a global pandemic I think should have been spotless.

Another great hidden gem. Really nice inside. Staff very friendly and helpful. The bar was clean and so were the toilets. I can imagine it get noisy in here when it’s busy. Glad we came in when it was quite.

Even though its a Greene King pub, don't let it put you off, its really unique. The food menu seem to be better than most Greene King pubs, good selection of beers. One big bar, which is located at the back of the upper area, between 2 arches. Which offers a good selection of ales, wines and spirits including the usual pub staples There are 10 or so steps down into the bar, I don't think there is wheelchair access to the bar. We couldn't see any other toilets in the bar, other the very small one in the lower arch area, which are limited. The bar has great lighting and atmosphere, with a slight damp, fusty smell which actually adds the the character of the place.

The atmosphere is great, it's steeped in history, with its original vaulted ceiling and remains of 13th century friary. We had the steak skewers, piri piri chicken wings and a pint of Guinness. Unfortunately the Guinness wasn't great, it wasn't left to settle, just poured like a lager. The skewers were chewy and tasted more like braising steak than rump. That aside, the chicken was excellent, we had a nice time and enjoyed the environment.

Three of us were there on a Sunday evening. Funny thing was they were out of of all of our first choices. Ordered what they had and it was good. Didn't see any ghosts ... but the overhead strings of lights in our area went out. Could it have been the spirits?

It's always a pleasure visiting Lendal Cellars, over the past few months it has become my go to spot for a drink and something to eat, especially after a long shift at work. The food and drink selection is top class. Plus Harriet, Tegan and the rest of the team feel more like friends than service staff. I can't rate this place enough.

Staff really helpful and friendly. It was a pity that the GF bread they used for my sandwich you could tell had just come out of the freezer and not thawed properly and had started to become wet and sticky, such a shame as it is a nice place. I must say, however, my daughters enjoyed their meal apart from too much salt which had been put on the chips. Maybe the salt could be left off and leave it up to the customer to put salt on if they wish.

Drink, side; or buy a burger all £9-£12 get a drink for £1 - menu has big range - prime location, but feels like a different world away from the busy streets inside, nice atmosphere Will be back!

Stumbled upon this place after finishing a Ghost Hunt Tour. It's a lovely underground pub, the fact that it's in a cellar gives it lots of character. Though it's a bit tucked away, and the signs to Tomahawk (further down the alley) make it confusing. Reasonable prices and a good selection of drinks (particularly gin!) We unfortunately came after the kitchen closed but I imagine the food would have been nice.

This pub isn't as dark as my photos. You walk in and go Wow this is different! It really is cellars. Has a good range of beers etc and also good food. There is a secret outside terrace at the back. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Sorry but as it's underground I couldn't see any wheelchair access. Xx

We enjoyed lunch here. My son chose the Hunter's Chicken toastie which had cheese on it . No where did ot say what kind of cheese it was. (There a new food law, where all ingredients have to be listed). It's says you get a Salad Garnish, with your toasties, it's half a plate of salad! We have eaten here before, but felt this time it didn't work. Both my young men are Austic. I mentioned it to the waitresses and had a free coffee ☕

This is a fantastic place to eat; probably why it's so popular! Placed in the old wine cellars of the Lord Mayor, this historic site serves delicious food piping hot to your table. In spite of it being packed out when we arrived (we were lucky to find a table during this peak time) the food arrived in a very reasonable amount of time and really was delicious. They have an amazing selection of gins, which my partner greatly enjoyed trying. I highly recommend this restaurant! Helpful review? Hit that like button!

Great location for an atmospheric bar, we visited on a Saturday night, there was music (although very generic Saturday night disco) and plenty of punters. Drink prices were reasonable and everyone seemed friendly. A good place to go if you're visiting York for the weekend.

Great atmosphere in here, the arches of the cellar are a really unique feature and make this spacious venue feel more intimate. Nice selection of beers and well stocked bar. Food was standard pub fare, well cooked and service was fairly fast. I was in a party of 12 and the Cellars were perfect for us.

Very nice inside. Drinks are nice but despite advertising 241 on cocktails I was told I could only have the long island ice tea as pitchers, not glasses. A very large crowd of drunk Japanese in the pub too causing mischief, kicked out by the staff though, well handled. Will return when were back

I have visited this pub numerous times. I find it ideal for going out to meet for drinks. Has a really good courtyard at the rear (walk all the way through the restaurant) which is nice and private and great in summer. Quite a niche historical pub. Food wise, only had starters and snacks, all of which were good, but I've heard hearsay of mixed reviews on food quality.

Unique place.. with a typical pub grub menu, nothing really to fault with it other though because of its nature it could be considered quite dark. The place itself is big and accept party bookings I believe. It also has a nice beer garden that is sheltered from wind.
