Lovely bar, friendly service, really olde worlde feel to it and the tiny beer garden outside is a hidden gem because it's not advertised outside as having one but it does and on a hot day it's perfect because it's tucked away, quiet and shaded and the selection of beers is decent and well priced.

The staff were very lovely, happy to discuss the ghosts even though they must get asked all the time! The pub itself is very cool, low ceilings and dark wooden beams. A little dark, but I think that's the vibe they'd wanna go for :)

Lovely warm snug where we sat and enjoyed a decent gin and a very special woods100 rum. Busy but not crazy, limited staff but everyone was getting served. The pies.. they looked good, didn't have time to try one but we will do next time we visit York.

Loved this place since it was the Angler's and run by Fria. First went in 1978 and keep going back. Always a good welcome, decent beer (a very nice Brown Cow anyway) and great company. Service is spot-on. They started to have music again now. Pretty good Steeleye Span type when I was in. Lovely.

One of the best pubs in York. Great beer and friendly staff. It’s not the place for cheap lager and loud music, so if that’s your bag it’s not for you. If you like traditional ale, good conversation and acoustic music you will love it.

Very nice place! We booked a table just in case it was busy! And it was but social distancing was observed. We were early but they moved things around to get us in at that time. My pint was flat but the bar man changed it no problem. Even thanked us for visiting on the way out. Definitely worth visiting if your in York.

Kind of small and not exactly cheap. Can't fault the atmosphere and did seem more of a locals pub to me but don't let that put you off. Very nice pub where you are made to feel welcome just very city center priced. If you are wanting a place for a good chat, this place makes you feel warm and definitely cosy. Very classic pub.

Cosiest of city centre pubs and very close to the Minster, Treasurer's House and a number of other historic locations. Great bar snacks, regular guest beers, varied live & DJ music nights (SnickleDub on the last Thursday of every month) and friendly staff. Oh, and a cracking fire in the colder months.
