Was looking for somewhere local for Sunday lunch and a Google search brought this one up. Carvery was set up in a function room which I thought was a bit odd, however, I needn't have been concerned. The food was amazing. The beef was the nicest I've had in a long while. There wasn't huge choice of veg etc but what I had was delicious and the cauliflower cheese was divine. Great price too and the pub had great ambience and felt very homely. Will definitely be back. ❤️

Lovely venue. Had a celebration of life in the room and it was a nice place. Bar staff were friendly and drinks were not bad price. Food was shocking though and expensive. Ordered for 40 and I don't think it would have fed 10 with very little option. They were short staffed and had to cut it earlier than planned and offered no refund. Won't use it again

Great pub now it has decent owners, the food is very good and so is the range of drinks, the wine in particular. They host a range of local events so it's quite a good place to meet people.

Give the food a miss, nice pub for a drink. Overall we found the food to be mediocre, over cooked steak pie, undercooked gammon? The lasagne was poor, very bland and smothered in cheese, no rich Italian flavour as you'd expect. There are better places to eat in Haxby.

We have just been to the cottage for lunch and it was amazing. We were a party of 6 and we were all so pleased with our food. We came away full to the rafters. Not what it used to be. What was once a decent selection of ales is now just John Smiths and Yorkshire Blonde - the two dullest mainstream ales available. Food used to be great, but is now so so at best. Staff contact is mostly transactional with no personal approach. The only reason I've given 3 stars, rather than 2, is the venue itself is still pretty good, despite there being too many tables inside.

I visited here to meet friends on Christmas Eve. A very busy evening, the staff were all very friendly and managed to get through serving with ease. There were some delicious smells and great looking plates of food going past too, although we never ate there. It is on my list to go back for a meal as it is only 3 miles from my home. A great range of Real ales, beers ciders, wines and a great looking top shelf and gin collection. In a very clean and friendly pub. I only stayed one hour but already know I will return.

Went with a small group of friends and the service was A1 , table service was fantastic the waiter/waitress got our order correct everytime even thought it was a mishmash of orders . I can honestly say I have nether felt so welcomed for years and felt immediately at home with the owner and the bar staff. The covid Separation is spot on went very well enforced with sterilising dispensers placed around the pub inconvenient areas floor markings which are easy to follow and the whole pub is super clean along with fresh toilets which is something you don't see especially in men's toilets. If you're going out I would recommend this place for its super friendly atmosphere and excellent service and friendly staff.

The new layout is great the staff and service is fantastic but the food is not good lots of it but chips are tasteless and meat is dry. You need better ingredients or a different chef it's such a shame as everything else is brilliant.

It has been a while since I was last here, and the change is amazing. They have something for everyone on the bar, and good selection of different gins with various types of tonic and mixers behind it. The food is not overpriced and is of a very good standard. There is also a well set out outdoor seating area. I would highly recommend a visit, and children are more than welcome too.

I am giving 5 stars as reopening the Cottage is fantastic and the Cottage Team have done an amazing job in a short space of time. My friend and I were enjoying a drink and chat; we were sitting in the 'snug' bit near the fireplace when the loud music suddenly shot up in volume. We moved over to the area near the dining room entrance, but we still couldn't hear ourselves speak. When we asked a young member of staff if the music could be turned down (explaining that we enjoy all music, just not that loud) she replied 'it keeps us going'. My friend and I amusingly pointed out that there were 4 young people behind the bar and 5 elderly customers, including ourselves (the time was approximately 12.30pm) so still fairly quiet - well - customer wise but not music wise. Just a polite suggestion to the young bar staff to cater for their customers. The music in question: Three Tribes by Frankie Goes to Hollywood and It's a Final Countdown. 😀 Our request was granted. I am writing this review because I was asked to but we will certainly visit again especially when you have the house wine on offer!

Firstly DOGS WELCOME big tick in our book. Very friendly staff, didn't leave me stood at the bar being ignore like in most pubs... Took my drinks order 🍺. They have tabke service and took our order promptly, very patient also as we took a while to decide 🕐. Food came promptly and we weren't let down either. We weren't pestered during our meal which is nice. Staff still polite and happy..... Recently refurbished also so looks the part. We will return and also recommend... Visited The New Cottage Inn this evening following the grand reopening on Monday. Staff were friendly and attentive, social distancing measures were in place, and there was a good selection of beers and drinks on offer. We will definitely be back. I wish the new Proprietors the very best of luck.

Not sure about the comments about a warm and friendly welcome as never had any kind of a welcome but maybe I've caught them on off days. First time we've been here, met up with friends from London who were staying in Haxby and was impressed. Dog friendly, sweet atmosphere and great food. Portion sizes are massive and asked half of my calzone to be cut to take home. What I loved was the attention to their side salads, strange I know but it wasn't an after thought as it is at most places. It was fresh, and full of ingredients and so tasty that it was almost like the main point of the dish. Husband loved they got the steak order right too

My husband and I went in on Friday night around 6:30pm. The place was busy with groups of people and couples. We got served at the bar straight away and found a table that had just been vacated. We were on our way to the bar to order when we halted in our tracks and someone came to the table instead. We just got our second drinks when our two sirloin steaks arrived. It was 20 mins max from when we ordered which, considering it was busy, was impressive. The food looked good and tasted better. The steak was perfectly done and we both polished it off. We had no issue with the staff who were all really nice and efficient with tables being cleared instantly. although one young girl behind the bar seemed in a strop when a group of lads came in, it didn't affect us other than entertainment value however unprofessional. The pub had a good atmosphere and was warm considering out was a cold night. There is only one reason I didn't give a 5 star rating and that's dogs are allowed on the carpeted area. Being a dog owner I know how much a carpet takes on the dogs odour and fur is a nightmare to get off. It's nice to go for a walk and pop in for a pint but there needs to be restrictions. I would rather not have had a yapping dog staring at me while I ate. Good value for money overall and will definitely do again.

Pet and family friendly village pub, extensively refurbished serving food, from bar snacks to full varied adult and children's menues throughout the day and evening. Open plan interior with ample seating areas for eating or drinking whilst a separate area is given to others wishing to have a game of pool or watch TV. A beer garden adorns the front of the pub which is set back from the main village road. With a smaller beer garden to the rear. The pub also boasts a large, well equipped function room capable of hosting parties, weddings etc. Whilst to the side is a large off-road car park.

We came for my Uncles 80th Birthday today 23/04/2019, there was 18 of us in total,meals were pre-ordered so why did 2 of the party have to wait an extra 15 mins before we all had our meals, my partner and I had the gammon, which was a little on the dry side,obviously cooked and kept warm, we were given desert menus but no waitress came to take our order,so a loss of £60 there, most staff were polite apart from who we presume is the landlord,not a smile or pleasantries exchanged (miserable), afterall we were a large party, and started to rearrange the tables and chairs before we left! Won't be recommending The Cottage Inn to anyone who wants to arrange a large group sitting
