Just spent 3 evenings eating at The Fat Abbott. The food is really good. My husband and myself enjoyed every meal we had. The service was good , and the staff very efficient and polite. The landlord is really nice and works hard. He makes you feel welcome . Would definitely recommend eating here.

Good location, with a good size car park. Four of us dined and everyone was satisfied with their choice. Nowadays it is difficult to talk about value for money, because money has no value left, but prices were reasonable as well.

Food is ok but nothing to rave about. A bit overpriced for what you get. Meat in beef bourguignon was a bit tough. Not bad but won't rush back

It wasn't a bad meal overall. My vegetarian Tart was overcooked and a little disappointing but the other meals in the group were much better. The surroundings are very nice and the service a little slow but the staff were great. Clearly busy. I would give 3.5 stars if I could as its just above average. Didn't really warrant 4 stars but unfair at 3 stars. Would go back so that's the indication really.

We love it here. Always good food and service. Went recently for Sunday lunch with a large family group for a special occasion. They gave us a good sized table in a nice quiet area. We had preordered and once our drinks order had been quickly sorted our food started arriving nice and promptly. Good sized portions and everything was very well prepared and tasty. The staff were exceptional. On hand when we needed them but not at all intrusive, just efficient. We were all very impressed including some newcomers to The Fat Abbott who will be returning!

Went for a meal this evening and have to say the food, service and ambience was great but the real treat for me was the fact that apart from one main course, the whole menu, starters, mains and desserts was gluten free. Manager was very helpful and knowledgeable on food and drunk options. Excellent.

Ate at The Fat Abbot for lunch earlier today, after a mornings shopping at York Designer Outlet just down the A19. We found the staff friendly, and the service really quick, very impressed. I had the chicken club sandwich and my other half had the Abbot burger which she said was fantastic. Will definitely be coming back for an evening meal at some point.

Nice venue, well I think it was we were tucked in a corner at the end of the bar, because there was just two of us when there were over 10 empty tables that noone sat at for the duration of our visit. Because of this the waiting staff couldn't see us, kept forgetting about us. That being said the food was lovely.

Been here several times over the years when visiting the parsonage Hotel. Booked dinner for my mums birthday , food absolutely lovely ,a bit pricey for what we had but it was a special occassion , only spoilt slightly by one couple that were dining appeared to be getting significantly more attention than any other diners (maybe they are known to be big tippers ? Their every whim was catered for but i had to ask for a refill drink as the waitress walked by having asked the other table if they were okay for drinks .They also ask on booking if it is a special occassion? I had specified it was a birthday but this info must just be market research as they did not acknowledge it being special occassion for us ,shame ,with a little more thought it could have been fabulous

It's a really nice pub. The food was excellent. It's nice to have 'Pie' that is actually a proper pie and not a meat dish with a pastry lid. The staff were friendly and helpful, all the food is made on site from scratch. A very pleasant evening

We do not agree with this other rating.We have eaten here a few times and have never been disappointed. In fact we have found the staff very helpful and knowledgable about what's on the menus. Have been for Sunday lunch and the roast beef was delicious. Also mid week when I would highly recommend the fish and chips. Each time we have been in a party of people and all would agree it's good food at a reasonable price.

This is a warm cosy friendly place where you can chat, drink nice drinks, lovely wine, and enjoy your food. So far so good. Some of the tables are not nice to have your legs under, (gate leg 4 seaters), staff are nice but a little distant tho very helpful, but the food is GREAT! YAY! Steaks are very very tasty and tender. Salad is delicious. Meals are served with all the care and attention you want and the bill is a fair one. I d say eat here and hope it never changes. I will definitely be back. Been 3 times already. You need to book early. There is so much here to enjoy.

Stopped by for a few drinks to have a quiet little wake after an old friends funeral.. The place was spotlessly clean, well segregated, and a lovely warm open fire.. Pint of Guinness was top notch (and at a fair price too).. Bar staff were nothing but pleasant and well turned out.. And just to add, the toilet facilities were cleaner than ours at home with plenty of soap and hot water.. And a big bottle of sanitiser after you'd opened the toilet door back into the corridor... Not much more could be done really in these trying times... Well done :-)

Visited today for lunch. Greeted at the door,staff were friendly and very professional and they were very attentative service was excellent. Food was superb and the atmosphere in the restaurant was calming and efficient. I can definitely recommend this gastro pub/ bistro and will definitely be visiting again. In fact I have already booked a table on Sunday 17th September go my birthday and my son in laws birthday. Looking forward to it.

Arrived without booking and asked if we wanted to wait for food. Opted to wait as its a nice place to sit and read the supplied papers. Within 10 mins we had order taken as a party were late so we jumped the queue. Excellent service and very good food - we are local and go quite often as its the best place around for a quick lunch without going into York .

Just turned up midweek and abkentk get a table for 4. Pleasant barman, manager, and waitress. Excellent food. Not cheap but certainly not expensive (good value for money). All fresh, hot plates, served with a smile. Good choice of beers and wines. Definately on our return list.

Although the staff were excellent and the place was nice, the meal I had wasn't all that good sorry to say... the coq au vin was lacking in flavour and the garlic mash tasted of paxo stuffing mix rather than garlic... My starter on the other hand was excellent ... chicken liver parfait. My partners food was also excellent both starter and main.. haddock and chips... So maybe the chef had an off day.

Living very nearby I was very excited when a new gastro pub was being built in Escrick. However, having given this place several attempts over a couple of years, I have to say it is consistently disappointing. Service can be slow and lack lustre, drinks are not quite up to scratch and on my last visit all I could taste of the food was salt! Furthermore; having chosen a dish from the kids menu last time (for my adventurous eating 2-yr old) I was quite surprised when a large hot plate landed in front of her complete with veggies covered in rock salt and cracked black pepper.

Really delicious food - I had lamb with braised red cabbage, rosemary mashed potatoes and baby carrots, and it was divine. Not an ounce of fat on the lamb, just the really meaty tasty parts. Definitely deserves the “gastropub” title. Highly recommended!
