Had an amazing afternoon in this lovely quaint bar. So so friendly staff. Andy was on the bar and was made to feel so welcome then who should appear but John, a volunteer and elderly gentleman assisted me and helped me finish his crossword. When their shift finished, they happily handed us over to the evening staff, Harry and Molly who were just as friendly,accomadating and polite. Live music then proceeded and was amazing. I could not recommend place highly enough if you want good old fashioned service then this is the bar for you

Stopped in for a couple of pints and some food. Ordered the falafel salad and it was delicious. Fun atmosphere as well. The bartender was the only one working and doing a great job, being friendly and taking care of everyone. Great little place.

Roof Terrace with views to Cathedral. Nice seating upstairs. Doesn't look much when you look in the door but downstairs is the live music and bar area. You can walk on find a seat before ordering

Hidden away above this quaint little pub is a beautifully kept little roof garden with enough seats for enough people, over looking the minster. Live music, ales and craft beer available here. Friendly service lacking slightly, with all the locals sat at the bar and no real conversation returned from the bartender made for an unwelcome feel. But soon forgotten once nested away upstairs with a beer and good company. Came here by a recommendation about the terrace, will certainly be back for live music if there's room.

I love this place. Its angles, and steps and nooks and reflections - all of it. It's a memory of a place and a time I'm glad that I remember and I'm glad existed. A time when towns had quirky bars like this that were both friendly and yet magically allowed you to feel anonymous at the same time. When food and beer were just that and didn't have to have extra, fashionable adjectives attached. A lovely place with all manner of seating for all manner folks in the cafe / bar vibe downstairs and the more relaxed eating or party feel upstairs (depending on the time of day). They even have a roof terrace. I wish this was my local. I wish more corners held beautiful nuggets like this. Definite hoopy froods. Plus, they were so nice to my better 3/4ths who didn't fancy anything of the Christmasy menu and jut made her a butty, which totally made her day!

I went on a Tuesday or Wednesday night when it was quiet, and we sat up on the rooftop/balcony area with a coffee on a cold January night. It was lovely, and the staff were nice (though they must have thought us odd ordering coffee at night). We also listened to the minster bells ringing for hours (they must have been practicing). I haven’t managed to go back, as it always seems so busy, but I do want to!

Seems to have become one of our must visit places on a night out in York. Usually live music with a decent mix of people attending who make a brilliant crowd to be amongst. Most welcoming. The establishment is a bit of a chameleon as it is a cafe by day and lively pub by night. Decent range of drinks on offer at competitive prices.

The Habit has a great range of drinks, a cosy interior with a lovely aesthetic. The greatest feature has to be the hidden gem that is their roof terrace. With views across to the Minster, this sheltered sunny spot will have you thinking you really are on holiday.

Super friendly staff! Amazing selection of drinks and amazing atmosphere! This place has it all, also good prices! We ended up having a great night in this pub, it has two floors and their decoration is nice! I totally recommend it if you want to have a good night out drinking beers and listening to live music!

Nice place to visit. It has a very nice atmosphere and a great little nook with a view of the minster. The burgers are quite cheap. I had the blue cheese and bacon burger which is delicious. The only improvement I would offer is maybe some salad on the burger, but overall would recommend!

I usually pop down here for the open mic nights, run by Simon Snaize, on Wednesday and it's usually a good time. It does get pretty crowded at times but the atmosphere is pretty good. The drinks are good and the bar staff friendly. Definitely worth a visit!

This 5 star review is solely for Dylan and Dylan alone. I came in and was greeted with such a warm welcome which is hospitality at its finest. All evening he helped me pick out which drink was best and even made some to my specific requirements without any trouble at all. He was very kind, polite and had a very ‘nothing is too much of an issue’ attitude. This whole encounter and experience with him made me absolutely adore this bar and I will not hesitate to come back ASAP. I cannot recommend him enough to anyone who is looking for exemplary customer service.

Excuse the picture of the food I'd got half way through eating before taking picture. The food was truly amazing and one of the best burgers I've eaten. The roof terrace looks onto York Minster. Staff friendly and polite. Will definitely visit again.

A lovely little place with a decent selection of drinks, it has a small terrace seating area with views onto the minster and as long as the weather is nice it's a nice and cosy spot. There's also food available, online it showed burgers but when we got there it was pizza instead which was an unexpected but not unwelcome surprise. I would definitely recommend booking ahead as seating area outside is very limited and I doubt you'd be able to simply walk in on a sunny day.

Really great place with great selection of craft beers. Dylan and Kali looked after us all night and did a fantastic job. Truly expemlified hospitality and excellent customer service, felt really looked after and welcomed here. As a group of lads from out of town they could have easily turned us away or not bothered looking after us as we’re unlikely to return to York anytime soon and could be trouble. But they didn’t, and we’re all the better for it!

Went out to the Habit, very good. Contemporary very well kept building. Although seemed quite compact, had fair amount of space to manoeuvre in. Fairly large windows which can open onto the streets below with interesting views(we were upstairs) onto the other shops and restaurants along Goodram gate. There is also a small terrace with views to the Minister The food was very good and fresh served in wooden type trays. Although it was busy(the chef also spoke to us) and they said there was a food delay due to small kitchen also. Once ordered, the food arrived in a timely fashion. The staff service was friendly and welcoming. Would certainly recommend. Prices are reasonable and do vegan)veggie options along with meat which all looked quite appetising.

Just returned from a hen weekend in York. Did a bit of research beforehand for a Sat night venue with live music that could accommodate 12 of us for drinks. So glad we found this place. The staff are really friendly and were more than happy to decorate the area for us. Great atmosphere with a nice range of songs from the singer (who was great). Would def recommend and return.

I liked this quirky little bar. On my first visit it was a quiet Tuesday night. A second visit the day after Wednesday evening was busy with live music performances. The place is intimate and has some quirky seating arrangements. The only reason for not getting 5 stars was there was no Guinness on draft.

This is one really cool pub. It does some really good beers and nice wine , and despite its small size downstairs still manages to squeeze a bit of live music. It has seating upstairs as well, of which is very comfortable and very laid-back. the only thing that I suppose you could comment on negatively , is the price that you pay per pint. While this may seem a little more expensive to some pubs, I really wouldn't let this detract you at all , as this is really cracking pub and deathly worth a visit, or multiple visits!

Great live music drew us in. Cosy seats and can hear the music upstairs. I was very pregnant when visited but the drink selection is great. Only issues are that you have to spend 10 quid to pay by card and I had a lemonade which was poured out of a£1 r whites bottle and charged nearly £2 for it. Not happy with that.
