Flat hunting with DJ Alexander was overall very good. Being one of the larger agents in the city, their process is very streamlined. Their contracts and their information gathering process is fair and comprehensive. The best part of dealing with them was definitely their property agents. Looking around properties managed by them was fantastic because they were so incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable. We were in contact with an agent called Natalia who couldn’t have been nicer or more professional. She was excellent at helping us get the flat we wanted. There were a couple of downsides though. They only accept inquiries via RightMove which is a bit odd. I also found their phone lines very difficult to get along with. Twice I had to wait over half an hour on hold to get through to an operative on a weekday which is rough. I’m yet to experience how they handle existing and leaving tenant issues but for now, as a new tenant, they’ve been great.

I had a really helpful experience recently as I was in a hurry looking for flats. Johanna from DJ Alexander was so friendly and supportive. I didn't get the property she showed me but I've rarely seen a letting agent being so customer-orientated. I received excellent support from DJ Alexander during a recent incident where the washing machine in my property broke down. My contact Norman MacLean was very thorough, communicated often, and helped with everything I needed in terms of getting information from the tenant and ensuring the tenant was available to accept the new washing machine. The online support system is excellent, you can see the status of the issue and comment back and forth as needed. We have recently rented a flat in Edinburgh marketed by DJ Alexander, searching over a period of 3 months in Summer 2022. All the staff we dealt with by phone or when viewing were as helpful as possible. However, their office admin and systems weren't up to the job and seem to have been over-stretched. This resulted in a higher than acceptable number of mistakes in letting details, booking viewings and arranging access. This is probably due to the disruption of recently being bought out by private equity, increased due to our search coinciding with the peak period for student lettings.

My boiler was faulty, and the issue escalated, and especially at this time where it is in the minus figures for temperatures , a cold home with not heating or hot water is a big Issue. I locked myself out of my flat one night and called the office in a panic. Dale was so helpful and reassuring as I panicked to get to his office on time to pick up my extra set. He went out of his way to make sure I was taken care of! The manager, Clare, stayed past closing so I could pick up the extra set and get into my place without having to call a locksmith. "Extremely helpful and responsive, everything was clearly stated at all points of the process" Ellie was great showing me round various properties, and the admin and maintenance team have been superb. In our first week we had a smoke detector issue (fixed), a washing machine issue (resolved) and a leak (being investigated). None of these are issues are unexpected as new people start living in a house, but it has been reassuring to know that the response times to these queries have been almost instant, and all were handled diligently and with urgency.

Our experience has been a series of ups and downs; while there have been issues with our properties which were not resolved as per our request, or repairs that have been done below the expected standards, overall the deal has been good. My sales process with DJ started on a wrong footing. Initially i had Scott who was dealing with me but without any prior notification i found out he has left the firm. I only found since i called for him and was told. Then another person took over who wasn't too helpful and this started to frustrate me since i was the only one bearing financial loss. Thrilled to have him as my sales agent and i was very happy with the experience although it started on the wrong foot with other agents.

I've used 2 other agents in the past to manage my properties and they intentionally used confusing 'real estate' language and avoided direct questions/actions until I threatened to withdrawn my business. Overall It was ok dealing with DJ Alexander, after initial difficulty of getting somebody to reply to my messages. However, once contact was established, they were very professional and quick at responding unlike my current letting agency Dunpark. The reason I am giving 3 starts is that I find their cleaning charges extremely expensive - 340 pounds ( moving out cleaning ). Having lived in London for over 5 years I have never been charged more that 175 inc VAT. Fixing charges are also extremely high , surprisingly even compared to London ( assembling a small shelf costs 50 pounds and so on). Also, unlike in London they do not give you the cleaning quotation ( or even the price range) in advance, so you are very unpleasantly surprised . I could not have even considered that it could be more than in London zone 1 . So, my friendly advise hire cleaner yourself if you do not wish to loose all your deposit ( I got nothing from my 500 deposit), get your own handy man and read inventory report really thoroughly as few things that were not mentioned in the report ( like apparent burnt mark on the carpet that was there from the day I moved in but was not put in the report) will be charged to you.
