Reviews of Rose & Crown
G. W.
Traditional village pub serving food.
The staff where really friendly and the whole atmosphere felt welcoming.
The food was nice and best described as traditional pub grub, the menu isn't massive (not a bad thing) but with a decent selection vegetarian and pescatarian options.
C. W.
Lovely country pub with nice food, good menu will definitely be back.
Friendly staff and clean throughout
C. S.
Have not been through Ridgmont since bypass was built. wish I had. lovely little pub with a great menu at very reasonable prices. Would definitely use again
V.
Pub and campsite in an ideal location just one mile from M1. Nice size site with all amenities. The friendly, new owners have been in just a week and kitchen opens Sunday.
Pub and site VERY clean. Ideal!!

A lovely place to eat and drink. Ended up here for lunch by accident as a nearby pub had their kitchen closed. Ordered the chef's pie which was chicken and mushroom. It was great and I got a nice big slice. I'll definitely be visiting again.

Stayed at the caravan site at back of pub, Friday night to Monday Pm. Lovely views, toilet and shower, electric hook up, all caravan needs. Lovely walks, in the pub eveyday for drinks and food. Really friendly, first name terms, great bunch of locals and staff. Going back soon. food and drink was reasonably priced and very tasty. Great for a stop over or for weekend or longer. Just a peaceful place to be.

We had a lovely meal this afternoon, arrived late but chief was still there so he cooked us lunch. Proper fish and home made chips, same with scampi and chips.Baileys cheesecake, bread and butter pudding delicious. Extremely friendly husband and wife, deserve to do well. We will be back. Strongly recommended you try it out. Henry and Ann Harpenden 8/10/22

This lovely old pub has had a mini transformation. A decorative spruce up and a new pair of hands in the kitchen means delicious pub food in comfortable surroundings, served with courtesy and a smile. Lots of dishes deserve special mention, but the fish and chips

The Rose and Crown is under new management, and is firing on all cylinders. The inside of the pub is pristine, and the general aesthetic strikes the perfect balance of traditional and modern, which isn't an easy thing to get right, but they've managed it!
The bar is usually featuring guest ales and all the standard lager, cider, wine and spirits you could possibly need, and it features a plethora of classic weekend pub entertainment - which I'm proud to say that I'm a part of, as one of their music acts. The pub also apparently backs on to a sizeable camp site - always handy if you're packing tents. Other reviewers have raved about the food, so that's certainly something for us to experience at a later date. The photos certainly look wonderful👌🏼
Ridgemont, get behind your local pub. I'll most likely be there too! ✅️

Great meal - fab choice of dishes, including for veggies and vegans and everything was really well cooked. Also a selection of real ales on draught and plenty of gin!

5 stars from our party today - we were off the beaten track with elderly relatives and needed a break- even though the pub was closed they kindly opened up and provided facilities and refreshments- thanks again!

Excellent service
Food tasted fantastic, well done to the chef Tom
Good place for dogs as I took my 2 dogs there spacious and homely

Lovely little village pub. Great food and friendly staff. Parking in the street but we had no problem.

I took Mumsy to the Rose & Crown for Sunday lunch, following the recommendation of local friends, Mr & Mrs Downie. The hosts were very accommodating allowing Mumsy to have a smaller portion of only one sausage with mash potatoes and peas. I had traditional roast beef.
We spotted a family of three with large portions of dark chocolate sponge and sauce when we first arrived, and having been told by them it was absolutely delicious, we simply had to try it. We shared one portion of this dessert.
This pub has a good selection of real ales too. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I certainly recommend the Rose & Crown in Ridgemont for lunch and a good drink.
K. S.
Best sausages and pies we have ever tasted. The range of homemade pies and sausages is great and really reasonably priced. On a Sunday can even have them as a roast! Can't recommend highly enough. We will be coming back more often
e. h.
The chef went out of her way to come out and speak to my husband about what vegan options she could do even though none are advertised on the menu. Portions were large and it was a cosy friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend.

A very friendly local pub. The food is great - especially the homemade sausages and pies and the Sunday roasts are delicious! There are also lots of lovely gins to choose from and we are always made to feel extremely welcome by all.

I never rate 5* because there's always room for improvement. (But that's just me). They serve the smallest..keep reading.. tastiest..keep reading..most filling steak and kidney pie I've ever had..it was gorgeous. Served with a potato mash not quite like anything I've had before..I'm guessing a cheesy herby kind of mash..mash doesn't suit it as a word..and they haven't paid me for this review..the peas were dried up and overcooked, the gravy was A2, (I don't give A1's either).
Service.. friendly, helpful but not trying to get you in and out as a number, I truly felt valued as a customer.
Value for money.. when I looked at my small pie, with the obviously overcooked peas, a small pile of mash, and a small pot of gravy, I thought..£9-95 for this?
I also bought sausage mash and gravy for my two girls, who normally finish anything put on the plate..they didn't, but it wasn't because they didn't like it. (full up). They shared the sausages and I had a bite of both the Lincolnshire and Cumberland..both A2 (remember I don't give A1's)
Summary
So, for £30 ish, we had three meals, drinks not included but are very reasonably priced, brilliant service without being in your face, in a very comfortable, clean pub..oh and certainly the mens toilet is clean, my girls said the womens were clean too.
The only fault I can think of are the peas.. sadly.. everything else 5*..no..4*😁
Well done Rose and Crown

Really busy, lovely lunch but a bit chilly by the door
J. L.
Stayed 4 nights in caravan lots of space, electric hookup, shower block only one toilet & shower each for male and female but very clean and power shower good and hot. Pub closed Mon/Tues but great when it opened, pies are fab, very friendly homely place, definitely will stay again.
P. W.
Traditional pub, great food, friendly, welcoming staff.

A highlight of our trip back to the UK.
A very warm welcome, stunning pies including a number of vegetarian options and delicious choices of gravy and mash makes this a place to highly recommend ... not to mention the pudding options !!! We will be back.
J. V.
Lovely village pub serving homemade pies and sausages. We had a really lovely meal, lots of choice, beautifully cooked and served. Very friendly owners and staff. Typical country pub, beautifully kept and stylish but comfortable and very welcoming. We will definitely visit again.
P. W.
We visited to celebrate the post-lockdown reopening of pubs. There's a nice garden behind the pub, with a combination of open and under cover seating, so you're OK in any weather. Full covid operation, so leave your name and have service at the table, which is fine with me.
Food is great. We had a range of home made pies between us, and all were good. My steak and stilton pies was delicious, and the buttery mash, peas and gravy complemented it perfectly. Next time we'll try the sausages for a change.
Prices were great too - under £70 For the five of us, including drinks. Overall, I'd highly recommend the Rose & Crown.
M. C.
Great food!!! And good beer Will be going back very soon.
J. S.
The first time there was a nice experience. Thank you
M. B.
Very welcoming, and have a wonderful meal.
J. B.
Very friendly staff and nice warm atmosphere. Children's meals went down well. Sunday lunch portions for adults could have been a bit larger perhaps (only 2 slices) but roast potatoes were very nice as was the Yorkshire pudding - good and crispy. Gravy was too salty. Vegetables were plentiful and tasty. Good value overall.
C. S.
Did not avail ourselves of their famous pies, but a group of old friends (16) spent and evening at the Rose & Crown for drinks in the garden and had a great time
Good atmosphere and great service from the staff
p. i.
Excellent food fantastic service
Thank you
S. T.
Just finished a one night stay here, wish it was more. The guys that run the pub are fantastic, and the food (especially the pies) are worth a trip out just to experience. I can’t shout highly enough for this place *we’llbebackdefo
E. F.
Wonderful lunch - such great value and so fresh and tasty. Friendly hosts and background music to suit all, at just the right volume. We had the fish and chips - small £6 portion, which sadly defeated us. It's our new favourite place, and we'll be back!
H. S.
Amazing homemade pies and sausages, very traditional pub food! Friendly staff, great service, warm welcoming atmosphere. We've been twice in the last month and will definitely be back again soon. Thank you!
H. S.
What an absolute find! Lovely attentive and kind staff, big garden space with shade and sun spots, tables under a shelter for bad weather and the food!
Wow! Our party had three different portions of sausages which were all amazing! The cheese and marmite ones got a high review, as did the apricot and Stilton ones. I totally understand how they are award winning. One of our party had a pie and his plate was clean in about two minutes which is testament to how lovely the food was as he’s generally a bit of a grazer.
Thank you so much for a superb Sunday. We will definitely be back to visit!

Visited today at lunchtime with my two German Shepherds, we sat in the lovely garden and had the vegetable and goats cheese pie, it was delicious. Lovely owners very friendly and they even bought the dogs out some gravy bones. We will definitely be going back
S. F.
Called for a Sunday Roast. Superb service, excellent food, followed by ample portion of dessert. All very good value for money. Definitely not to be passed by.
M. N.
Thanks for a great weekend guys! Sorry we didn't see you Sunday morning we left quite early in the end but the pub and the campsite were great! We loved the pies and the sausages you produce on site and will definitely be back soon.
The Piebald Inn is the pub i visited near Scarborough that i mentioned to Mark at the bar that you can take inspiration from.
Good luck with everything and let me know if I can do anything to support you.

Just visiting the area on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon, stumbled upon the Rose and Crown. My wife and I decided on having our lunch hear, we were made to feel very welcome from the very moment we stepped inside. I can highly recommend this pub, really good food and no rip off prises. Apparently the landlord is an ex-butcher and I can believe this as the beef and Guinness pie was amazing, if you like home made good wholesum food then definitely make a bee line to this lovely village pub. WE WILL BE BACK!
J. B.
Camped here for the first time last night. Very peaceful. Good facilities, clean showers and toilets with lots of hot water. Great home made food in the pub. Lovely welcoming landlord and staff. Will definitely be returning
C. E.
The grub was every bit as good as everyone said .
My only complaint was that you can only mark five stars. And I wanted to give it six.
The other good news is that food is now available on Mondays and Tuesdays contrary to what the website says

Located in peaceful Ridgemount, this traditional public house, under new management, offers excellent service at the bar and in the restaurant.
There's off road parking at the rear, near a camping and caravan site and a large field where children can play safely whilst the adults speak.
Will definitely return on my lunch breaks. If you're pressed for time phone ahead so you eat relax in the sunshine (weather dependent) and get back in a timely manner.
M. S.
Excellent. Hadn't visited there for several years. Dropped in on way home.
What lovely people. Warm friendly welcome. Great real ale
Go and sample their hospitality for yourself
R. W.
Good beer great service
R. K.
A load of us went here tonight, the lady behind the bar asked how many we were, we said about 15, she then said “I wish you’d told me you were all coming, serving all you is making me slow serving the regulars” and pointed at 2 blokes lent on the other bar.
Guess we won’t be going back there.
A much better comment would have been “sorry it’s slow, we’re under staffed tonight”.
T. D. h.
Good food and friendly staff
