I. R.I dined for the first time at St Helena's in Elstow on Wednesday after hearing from friends of their experiences. I was not disappointed. The setting was beautiful, staff's attention to detail was superb and the food, well, my son who is 6 foot 7 and has hollow legs rolled out of there, full and very happy. The food was amazing. Well presented and absolutely delicious. I was so full, I couldn't have the coffee. Thank you St Helena for making my retirement visit a visit that I'll always treasure x

K. M.Bedfordshire's best kept secret and undoubtedly the best restaurant in the county. The menu is amazing, the service is very attentive and the setting is beautiful.
It's perfect for a romantic meal for two, special occasions or a group booking. They are only open Wednesday to Saturday, and don't really have a large online presence. Don't let that deter you as it is obvious this restaurant doesn't need to push themselves. This is a must booking if you are seeking fine dining with exemplary food and service.

Staff were pleasant, service was prompt and personally we liked the simple fixed per head price.
We left it very late to book an evening meal for six on a Friday night after our wedding. But they made a massive effort to accommodate us but be warned book early to avoid dissappoinent.

a. p.A dream of a place. Beautiful restaurant with an amazing garden. Food is delicious and art on a plate. The owners are brilliant, making sure that your experience at their restaurant is special. Been there a few times, and cannot think of anything negative to say about the place.
R. W.The place for us for birthdays, wedding anniversaries, meeting friends or just wanting a relaxing evening with great food and service. We need to drive 30 minutes, but it is worth it. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, the owners are extremely entertaining, in a positive way and the food is presented beautifully and tastes fantastic. We’ll be back over and over again, just one warning, you need to book.
A. G.Setting and restaurant is fabulous. Lovely warm welcome by staff however booking name was taken incorrectly so took a few minutes to find. Food and service were superb.
Would give five stars however the only thing that detracted from the experience, we asked to have coffee and liquors on the lawn outside and our waitress was totally accommodating. I happened to walk back into the restaurant and the maitre de was berating the waitress for allowing us outside without settling the bill. Had I been asked to do this I would have first. I appreciate no business should ever have to experience theft and a simple request to pay before being seated outside would have been more respectful than being suspected of leaving without paying. Also being more discreet when speaking to a member of staff.

Ambiance wasn't as nice. Can never fault the delicious food and staff though. We'll be back in July for our anniversary.
A. H.Honestly, the place is beautiful. The service was a bit hit and miss due to not having one person serving each particular table. There were nice touches like complementary courses and a drink at the end. But the biggest factor that would mean me not returning was that the food had hardly any flavour. Which for the price was really disappointing. My main had veg with chilli and garlic I couldn't taste either and the dessert looked amazing but the pretty little dots of coloured syrup literally tasted of nothing. Really disappointed with that. If i was being totally honest would have only given 3 stars but feeling generous...

All the staff are a credit to the establishment, the food is fantastic with the correct portion sizes so that the food may be enjoyed. P. H.The food menu is full of fresh ideas. Premium cuts, thought through layers of flavours and textures, posh Fish and Chips, simple things like nduja roast potatoes show how some things don't need to be reinvented just do the really well. Add to it huge selection of wines and the cosy atmosphere with colours and lights just right for the evening that's about you. Staff is always there when you need them and no more. It was pleasant to see multiple generations represented within serving staff and loads of diverse backgrounds.
By far the most welcoming element of this place is the fact that the owners themselves are out there amongst service checking on their guests and showing interest in them and their desires. Raff and Franco live the life of true restaurateurs. The art of this profession has been transforming a lot over the last few decades and somehow it is Italians hospitality that keep it alive more than anyone. These two brothers in law stick to what this profession is about. Be a host and face the customer, create memories for them and they will come back for more.
M. R.You just cannot beat The St Helena for the quality of food and the ambiance, Raff and Frank go out of their way to make your evening special, the restaurant staff are superb. We are very lucky to have this quality restaurant in Bedford.

The menu is exquisite, the scallops were cooked to perfection as was the lamb, the posh fish and chips would be another amazing choice !

F. F.Great food and service at St Helena. It was my first visit and I don't think it will be my last. We started with a drink in the garden which was just lovely and very well maintained and set the scene for a tasty and beautifully presented meal.
D. A.I had the haggis and corn beef hash to start and the pork loin main. Every mouthful was delicious. The portion sizes were neither too small nor too big. Heavenly food. My dessert was the cheese selection which was fascinating; I enjoyed a glass of the house port with it. My companions were also delighted with the food. The decor is eclectic. The service was faultless; the staff anticipated need before it emerged. The price for four drinking lightly was £250 which seemed reasonable. My only reservation was the feeling that we were outsiders, not regulars and that we were being condescended to. I'd like to go again but not often.

J. F.We received the warmest of welcomes when we celebrated a special occassion. Had a table next to the fire in the area with the bar. Service was good throughout, no rushing us through the courses and all staff were friendly. Food was well presented in portions that don't leave you hungry. The food was not cutting edge gastronomy but it was all very well cooked with good flavours and presented beautifully.

F.After a lengthy absence my wife and I returned to St Helena to celebrate our wedding anniversary.The menu was different to our previous experiences and I always looked forward to the Fillet of Beef St Helena ,however the menu we chose was superb.I had a melt in the mouth scallop starter and my wife the mushroom risotto both were special.My main was a lamb duo,the best lamb fillet ever.My wife had the posh fish dish which did not disappoint.
The service and attention to detail was how I remembered,with.Raf and Frank always on hand .
We have missed this place and will be more regular visitors.

I challenge anyone who can find warmer first rate service, excellent varied wines to suit everyone's pocket and exquisite cuisine to match. It is a real pleasure to dine there as you are treated as special from the moment you arrive until the moment after you have left.
I would imagine some to challenge prices, but this isn't a Harvester, far from it. St Helena offers some of the finest restaurant experiences that I have experienced around the globe, and hand in hand with that statement, real exceptional value for money. .
