Reviews of Fish City

Very nice atmosphere but the menu was quite small and the food was under seasoned. The cocktails were mostly ice and everything was very expensive, especially considering the area (18 £ for basic fish and chips). The staff was super friendly and attentive and our food was delivered fast, but the drinks didn’t arrive until halfway through our meal. Not worth the price.
C. W.
The staffs are very nice. The restaurant decorations are on point and suitable for social media content. The meals are okay but expensive. The menu says "award-winning fish and chips" costs 18£ but i didn't find out how special it is.
E. B.
This is the go to restaurant for my boyfriend and I. We went last night and yet again did not disappoint. He had the Scampi starter and fish and chips and I had the salted chilli squid starter and fish tacos. Everything was lovely and fresh. The service was faultless and our server was very friendly. Can't wait until next time. 😊
P. C.
Excellent service, the food was delicious! The serving time amazingly was pretty fast. Would come back for something more elaborate than fish n chips, till the next time.

We called into Fish City for Dinner while on a weekend break in Belfast and it was a great decision. The food and staff are absolutely top class. The menu has a fantastic choice of fish dishes with lots of information on sustainably of fish species and locally sourced fish. Highly recommended and looking forward to a return visit soon.
J. M.
My family had the best experience at Fish City tonight. The food was delicious, but the star of the show was our server Stacey. She was beyond friendly and was downright hysterical!. We're traveling through Belfast on vacation from Canada so won't be able to go back but if we were local, we would be regulars...at least as long as Stacey is there!
T. M.
Came across this whilst walking through, exceptional service, quality meal. Pleasant surroundings nice atmosphere.
Would recommend/ visit again .
B. D. G.
I swear, the sea trout with caviar was one of the best things I've ever had in my life. The service is excellent, very friendly and humorous attendants, perfect music and environments! highly recommend!
E. A.
it was indeed a great fish & chips
place. we’ve taken the award winning one and it was quite good. but they close at 21:00! So need to be there earlier.
J. B.
Excellent fish and chips. We are small eaters and the restaurant didn’t have any issue about us sharing a plate so kudos to them as its not always the case.
C. A.
Excellent food and super professional staff. Emmet was extremely polite and welcoming, a star, will be back for sure.
I. M.
Have been wanting to go to fish city for a while. Well worth the wait. My husband doesn't give anything higher than an eight but it got 10 out of 10. Great meal from the start staff lovely plenty to choose from. The dressing on salad was amazing. Well done Fish city and staff.
D. F.
Delicious food, great staff and a very calming vibe. Beautiful place. Totally worth it
T. W.
What a great restaurant.
The staff are lovely , the decor is really good and the food is excellent. We had fish and chips and mussels. Both really good. Give this place a go. I don’t think you will be disappointed!!!
We will be back.
L. V.
High quality fish & chips and the sides were delicious! Although the portions were not generous, everything on the plate was full of taste and very good quality, including the unlimited chips.
Highly recommended!
K. D.
Nice fresh food. Fish and Chips comes with "unlimited chips" which the staff seemed quite proud of. Unfortunately getting those chips relies on someone being available to bring them. During my visit noone came to check on us and I couldn't make eye contact with the staff, which meant we finished our meals before we could avail of the offer.
Almost £18 for a small fish and chips is pushing it too.
M. S.
One of the food highlights of my trip in Belfast. Super friendly staff, great atmosphere and a proper fish and chips
J. C.
What a fabulous seafood 🦞 🦪 restaurant beside Victoria square.
Simple not pretentious and high quality service and outstanding flavours.
Reminds me a bit of Morans on the weir but in the heart of Belfast.
5 stars
T. B.
Traditional fish and chips ( with an extra portion of chips later) ...and mine was seafood linguine.
Service was excellent, food was delightful and Kilmegan cider was crisp and cool. Kevin was attentive and helpful.
Pity that trade is so slow in the city centre center these days ...these folk merit more support.
C. D.
Very expensive for the portion sizes. Wasn't overly impressed. The staff were friendly enough. £18 for basic fish and literally handful of chips very small menu with very little options. Kids meals didn't come with there "free squash either".
m. s.
Brilliant... Kevin was/is an angel..... Fantastic fish & chips.... Great ambience.... Great service..... We will be back!
J. W.
Just had dinner at Fish City in Belfast. It was the best meal we had in Ireland! The curry mussels were amazing. Had the right amount of kick to them and so fresh. Then we had the trout with roe, potatoes and little mussels. They made the curry mussels and my dinner dairy and gf. It was absolutely delicious. I'm a picky eater and this 5 stars! The service was great and the people were lovely. Zoie was the greatest! She took great care of me!! The atmosphere was fun and they had Irish music playing in the background. Definitely worth going! I was very happy thanks to her!!
R. K.
Clean and well spaced out. Portion sizes not huge but food was of an excellent standard, which makes up for it. Staff fully understood coeliac needs. Plenty of gluten free options clearly detailed on menu
D. S.
Decent but the portions could have been better for the price paid - albeit maybe they were more expensive due to the fair trade sourcing? The beer selection is slightly limited but overall, a decent restaurant specialising in fish.
M.
Awesome food, atmosphere, and service from Ellen! Highly recommend stopping in!
M. D.
Best Fish & Chips in Belfast, served with mushy peas and Tartare sauce. Delicious. Kevin and the rest of the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Can't wait to visit Belfast again. A cracking city
C. C.
The food was excellent but the service was terrible. We wanted to order a side of bread for our mussels but the server was no where to be found. We also wanted to order dessert but the server was incredibly rude when we asked (rolled her eyes, turned away and came back a few minutes later to take our order), so we got our bill and left. Having been a server myself for many years, I would understand if it was busy, but the restaurant was empty.
Very disappointed and won’t be back.
B. A.
Just had the most wonderful experience at Fish City!! Food was fantastic- shout out to the Fishermen’s Curry- next level and Zoey our server was amazing and sweet and really the best!!! Great family experience- highly recommend!
G. O.
Had a wonderful meal here before Christmas, meal was delicious, great menu and even a professional cocktail menu!
Our waitress Zoe was the star of the show and would return upon her great customer service alone. 5*
K. R.
In late March, I was lucky enough to reserve a table for 2 for dinner on a busy Friday evening at Fish City. Wow! They had to escort us out as we were so lost in the incredible meal that we lost track of time! 5+++ stars!
S. B.
This is a very smart restaurant and anyone who likes fish will find it hard not to love. It is a little on the pricy side but it’s worth it for the flavours and presentation alone. The decor is really well done and there was a nice atmosphere despite it being practically empty when we visited. All the staff were very professional and knew the menu well, being able to offer advice on certain dishes when questioned.
The kitchen is open behind the counter, which is always positive and everywhere was spotlessly clean. All the dishes arrived in good time and the portion sizes were large. Presentation was incredible and everyone was impressed with the taste. I’m not normally a fan of batter since it’s normally too greasy but here it’s delicious. Their onion rings are also massive!
There is quite an extensive wine list with reasonable prices, but unfortunately they don’t seem to have much stock of each since they ran out during our visit. We left happy though given the food and for something a little more special I’d highly recommend!
V. Z.
Fresh and excellent chowder amongst other exceptional dishes. The staff was welcoming and caring. A must do in Belfast.
P. M.
Beautiful wee restaurant with a wonderful selection of fish dishes. You shouldn't really leave Belfast without sampling some of their lovely light fish dishes.
S. M.
Lovely bright cheery place , super chowder with really good quality fish, even if the portion was on the small side - and a little steep at £10.95 but worth it
Staff are very friendly
b. k.
Excellent menu choice and we'll priced. Staff very pleasant and really enjoyed the food.
H. F.
The food was delicious. The service was excellent. The waitress was absolutely fabulous. Everyone in my family enjoyed their meal. If you get the Fish & Chips you’ll have to read the paper liner ‘The Daily Catch’! It explains the history of the Fish & Chips! This was a quote from my friend Mike Borosky, “Love the way they do it old school. The Fish and Chips in the newspaper.”
I hope to visit again someday!

What a delightful place. Coming from a fishing town, the fish they serve is amazing. Loved the friendly service of the staff who will happily chat and tell jokes and even recommend. The first person to show us to our seats wasn't that joyful but the normal staff seemed fantastic. We went with the medium fish and chips and was full to bursting. A really delightful little corner of the world. Loved it!!!
T. M.
⭐️🌟Strongly recommend Fish City! The seafood chowder, hake, and curry are all great options.
🐠🦀Fresh fish, locally and responsibly sourced (they have messages about this)
🇨🇮🍻Irish tones throughout. Feels like an authentic, local meal (e.g brown bread baked with Guinness - yum!)
🍽🏡Beautiful environment. Indoor/outdoor seating.
🐄🌱Meat and vegetarian options if you’re the only one in your group not into fish.
💲🆗Mid-range prices. We paid ~$75 USD for a hearty meal for two
🕴🍴Great service. Super friendly.
M.
5* service
5* food large Haddock and chip cooked to perfection & sicky toffee pudding.
All the staff member are friendly and attentive can't fault this place.
Highly recommend
L. S.
How can we fault this restaurant? The food is delicious and the service top notch. The attentive Emmit (please excuse if spelt wrong) was our waiter and added to such an agreeable meal. When in Belfast it's our head to restaurant for our adoration of Fish & Chips!!!...
C. K.
Unreal - delicious fish and chips! Nice batter that wasn’t too thick, not too greasy. Bit slow service but I’d go back to try more food.
J. C.
We called in for lunch. We hadn't booked a table but the staff were able to accommodate us. The service was excellent, the staff were very friendly. We will be back again for sure. I really recommend this place as an alternative to the chain restaurants in Victoria Square.
E.
Love Fish City, amazing food and atmosphere. Really high-end, local produce and incredible staff. A huge thanks to Zoe and John for making our time there so special
I. S.
Really concerned during covid about the lack of face masks worn by the staff.
Other than that, very nice place and food.
Only one note, the tacos in the menu are not the crispy ones.
D. H.
We had one person who could not join us for dinner so we decided to do takeaway. We explained what we wanted and the server seemed to understand what we wanted. When we got home with the nicely closed bag they had done for us, we found we were missing a couple things; lemons, ketchup. We also got sweet potato fries along with the regular fries they were supposed to replace. The 3 orders of regular fries were soft and limp and hardly touched by anyone. The fish though was quite good and we may consider going back just for that. Basically, good fish, good sweet potatoes, soft fries and definitely check your order if you get takeaway.
E. A.
Delicious food, lovely staff/owner, nice ambience, very good for family or individual. The staff always cheer and greet us and really pleased to see my baby when we had lunch there. Wonderful restaurant.
A. N.
Very attentive staff, clean place, cosy atmosphere and great quality food. Seafood linguine and sticky toffee pudding well recommended!
B. N.
Had evening meal here, the staff were very helpful and pleasant,
The meals were tasty, but quite expensive for what you got tbh, my award winning fish and chips was nice but pretty small in anyones books for £16.95 😱
The seafood tagliatelle was really enjoyable, the garlic bread was one of the best I’ve had.
Would we go again ?? Yes but with plenty of cash 😉
D. L. S.
Grrat location with tasty dishes. We will come back soon 😊
G. H.
The food here is exquisite. I haven't had fresher fish in the last 10 years. Great staff. Fantastic flavours. Well worth a look.
F.
They were not lying when they said that they're the best place for fish and chips, and by far the best seafood resto in the heart of Belfast City. Although a bit pricier than others, the seafood you get here is ALWAYS fresh and their service top notch.
A.
Excellent food. The Besides the Seaside dessert was an amazing surprise. Nice friendly competent staff recommended great wine to accompany the main course.
C. T.
Excellent taste of the chowder! This was my first time trying this and this was mind-blowing delicious. Definitely worth the price
J. J.
We came across this lovely little restaurant whilst heading out for a walk from our hotel nearby - staff are incredibly chatty and friendly and service was great. The food is excellent too, goes without saying you must try their signature fish & chips- the fish was very fresh (and a chunky portion too) and the chips are incredible - not to mention unlimited! We sat outside but the restaurant looked very beautiful inside too. Top drawer establishment, if you're in Belfast do not hesitate to go.
C. E.
Fabulous staff and amazing food. Called in on passing and I’m delighted we have discovered this little gem
S. E.
Great place for fresh, well prepared seafood! I highly recommend the cod fish and chips!
M. C.
Great fish and vegetarian / vegan options. Halumi tacos are excellent. Fries a tad soggy.
O. S.
Amazing food prepared beautifully! The vibe is really cool and the prices are decent. We wanted to try a bit of everything so we ordered 4 starters and that was enough to fill us up. The staff was super nice and checked up on us often, and the food came incredibly quickly! My favorites were the goat cheese, halloumi, and smoked salmon plates. There's also an outdoors area that looks nice for warm weather!
Z. H. O.
The oyster was very good and fresh. The service was phenomenal. The only complain I have would be the batter of the fish, it could be a little bit more crispy
S. G.
Excellent food, great selection of dishes on the menu and very friendly staff.
R. F.
The food was incredible! Service was excellent too, the atmosphere inside the restaurant made for a really good night
B.
Lovely place you can sit in or outside. Decent drinks menu to go with dinner and the fish is my go to dish here. My friend usually get the vegetarian dishes. So there's a little bit of everything for everyone on it. Good and handy before your going out in Belfast should it be to cinema or a night out. No photos sorry but I'll get them next time
J. C.
Lovely spot for food, good for fish lovers very responsibly priced
j. m.
This place was great, we were there as part of the taste and tour. Love they are plastic free and really ethical in their ingredients. The food was delicious, we had a fish taco and chips. Beautiful and awesome Cider too
M. H. M.
Good food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere and reasonable price. It's more than a fish and chip shop.
J. B.
Tasty and comfortable locale in central Belfast. Food is top notch in my opinion. Staff extremely helpful and accommodating. Located in arguably the most wheelchair accessible section of Belfast. Highly recommended for lunch, dinner dates or anything in between. Eating inside or outside is currently available.
R. C.
Fish and chips were decent. Supposed to have all you can eat chips but this was never offered, and our chips weren't replenished. Instead the water kept asking if we wanted drinks, the must get paid extra to sell alcohol.
G. a. M.
Staff were fabulous, food was ok. Chowder lacked seasoning, mussels were tiny, actually never seen mussels so small before. It was a modest portion of Fish n Chips for the £16 price tag. The batter was kinda soft and not nice and crispy. All in all it was ok, heard alot about the place, not sure we would go back.
m. l.
If you love fish you've just got to try this restaurant. Food service and wine fantastic.
Z. T.
Solid fish and chips. Great chowder and squid too. Generous portions for the price.
D. L.
Comfortable surroundings, food exceptional. Had the cod, fries and mushy peas. Good portions, but , the mushy peas came in a tiny holder, smaller than an eggcup. Best cooked fish ever, but at nearly £17 , a few more chips and peas. Would I recommenend, and or go again, definately
A. C.
Excellent service always. Superb taste and texture in every meal. One visit is never enough. And the music is good most of the time. Belfast's premier city centre fish restaurant.
s. b.
Delicious food, great service, and friendly professional staff. Nice buzz about the place. Thank you Team Fish City 🙂
M. B.
Delicioso tasteful food, places you must go in Belfast
G. M.
Fabulous food and service. All dishes were superb served in a super friendly manner. A wee gem in the city centre.
V. C.
Such a warm welcome and delicious food. We ate here after a recommendation from a city guide, award winning restaurant in UK and Europe, with really great personal service. Our food was delightful tasty and freshly made. Staff were knowledgeable friendly and efficient.
Everything was excellent.
m. d. f.
Family of 4 ate there last night. The food was phenomenal. Especially the fisherman's curry. Wine selection was delicious. Staff were so friendly. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Belfast city centre.
C. L.
Fantastic food and the service cannot be beaten. Superb on all counts. A jewel in the crown of food anywhere.
D. C.
Food and staff are actually amazing. Portion size makes it difficult to realise value. Because it's a fish and chip bar, the expectation is above sized portions. They are instead on the small side. However, despite being disappointed by that, the quality is above and beyond any fish and chips you can buy anywhere.
The venue is immaculate. Strong safety and hygiene compliance. Worth saying, even the toilets too were probably the cleanest in the city.
4/5 seems harsh, but only because I'd like to have portion size being more indicative on the menu. For example, a larger option available on plates for an additional £2. Or chicken wing qty indicated on menu. £10 for wings in one place could grab you 25. Here it was 5/6. Understanding the portioning would have allowed me to order to expectation and wants. I'd gladly have paid additional for a larger plate given the quality.
D. K.
Went midweek, menu was nothing like what was online, very limited, staff very helpful and friendly.
Fish tacos came with a wrap and the salad was dripping wet in it. Overall not a great first visit but I will come back at a weekend as I really look forward to a seafood meal, mussels were lovely
K. K.
Amazing! Came here for my birthday and they couldn't have been lovelier, the staff made such an effort to make it special. Food is absolutely gorgeous!
T. G. L.
Good vibe, oyster is good but too salty to my taste, I will come back if I have chance.
R. H.
Most tasty food I had in Belfast until now. Great staff, beautiful fish!
A. C.
Lovely meal, friendly staff and good atmosphere
N. B.
My mother and I visited yesterday. Promptly waited on by Anthony and had a lovely meal and welcoming.
If you want sustainably caught good quality fish, dine here!
B. G.
Ordered some takeout chips with curry sauce and went to eat them near the Beacon of Hope, so delicious! Very satisfying lunch 😊 Friendly service as well.
K. B.
4 off us walked in off the street and were served straight away, award winning fish and chips and the scampi were delicious, fresh and light and fluffy batter, great service, clean restaurant, not too bad a price.. highly recommend !
J. W.
Visited this fish restaurant whilst arriving Belfast this weekend, we are from Scotland with an award winning fish restaurant locally, which I thought was the best, however, this was undoubtedly THE best I have ever eaten, I had the cod goujons my husband the cod, absoloutely delicious, staff attentive and welcoming it is without a doubt so worth a visit tempurer batter the best well done guys.
Happy satisfied Scots xx
N. C.
We visited this restaurant whilst on a weekend break in Belfast, we were drawn in by facade, we were not disappointed with the interior, the food was absolutely amazing, we had cocktails which were very nice, the staff very friendly, and the bill was really reasonable, we highly recommend

First time I have been here. The food is fantastic and the staff couldn't do nicer or more helpful. Zoie was a delight..
T. O.
A mixed experience tbh, a nice but rather small portion of fish n chips at around £17 I think. Had to buy tea separate and didn't include bread n butter. Got a kid's meal at £6 which consisted of 2 goujons chips & beaker of diluted cordial.
I would not return.
C. C.
First time in Fish City but won't be the last. Wonderful experience because of all the staff who were friendly, helpful, attentive and went out of their way to ensure great efficent service. N the food and drink wasn't half bad either. Lovely meal. Thoroughly enjoyable. Can't recommend Fish City highly enough.
J. D.
Third time at Fish City restaurant and yet again delicious, beautifully presented meals served brilliantly by Siobhan!!
C. D.
Fantastic service and food! Zoie and Jenna and the other lady (apologies I didn't get the name but possibly the main boss??) were just brilliant, made the experience so enjoyable. Food was delicious and the alcohol sizes were spot on :) was our first meal out in about 6 months. thanks guys :)
E. J. O.
Despite the torrential rain and wind and having to sit outside (due to pandemic restrictions), we had a lovely meal. The staff were wonderful and we had a good laugh each time the wind blew the awning and the table got soaked! A wedding anniversary to remember!
J. C. (. A.
Fish was fresh however, lacking seasoning. The goat cheese dish was superb!
M. P.
Very nice food.
Don't order garlic bread,
Swimming in butter!
V. S.
The food was amazing (had scampi, cod tacos and fish curry between us) and it was all great. Our waitress Zoe was amazing. Would highly recommend coming here
I.
It's fine restaurant. Fish was fresh and tasty, however the price is quite steep. Very small tartare sauce and small pot of mushy peas. Good service.
P. R.
Went there to something to eat
Had a fish and chips and tea must
Say the meal was very tastywould go back
P.
A cozy dining place. Their fish items are yummy. Very friendly customer service as well.
K. L.
Dined here tonight. This was in the top ten best meals I've ever had in my life. Stacy was our server and was the most pleasant host we could of asked for. 5 stars hands down!
D. C.
Awsome restaurant in marine style with traditional Fish'n'Chips and many other seafood specialities. Very recommend for visit
L. A.
Very nice experience.
Fish and chips were excellent. Even the chicken stripes had a twist.
Very nice, well served and super friendly, even with our dog!!!
A. W.
Nice food. They take ur order and bring it out to u in ur car, do what they can, during covid.
P. Y.
Ordered the cod and chips and they were the best I've ever had. Well done. Service was friendly and good. We sat in the new extension upstairs so away from the hustle and bustle of the kitchen. Also the most expensive fish and chips I've ever had but went during eat out to help out which helped. Thanks Boris 😁
M. M.
Good food and service. We had not realised it closed at 9 which was a shame
D. V.
Amazing restaurant, dishes full of new and grate flavors...
G. M.
This restaurant is a little gem. In life you get what you pay for. Well everything from the food, service interiors and atmosphere is money well spent. Best sea food cowder in Ireland. Cant wait to visit again.
N. M.
Great craic sitting outside, unreal scampi and best fish and chips I've had in years. Guinness book was also superb. Can't wait to go back
A. G.
Gorgeous fish and chips and really friendly staff!
G. S.
Scampi to die for absolutely delicious meal and coffee, my friend enjoyed with the same enthusiasm her muscles
M. S.
Staff fantastic 👏 but very pricey. Hard to get your head around a small fish supper £18.50
N. N.
Great food. We made use if the eat out help out offer and it was a wonderful experience. The fish was cooked beautifully and the dishes are flavourful and well balanced. Well definitely be dining there again!
J. N.
MUST TRY WHEN YOU GO TO BELFAST!
The garlic butter chips is amazing with the freshly cooked COD. One of the best fish and chips I've had. The price got me a little doubtful but it was worth it! Would go again and again and again...
C. M.
Friendly staff who are fully conversant with both food and drinks menu. I had scampi and a Heaney redbeer. Food was belicious and scampi perfectly cooked - no easy task. Would highly recommend a visit
O. I.
Really nice! Excellent service as well every time! You should definitely try their seafood chowder soup
J. m.
My first visit to this establishment, never noticed it before, the chalk board advertising outside changed that, great service, delicious food, portions were enormous, friendly approachable staff, upstairs available, middle of range pricing so good for city centre, very clean and have disabled/baby changing facilities downstairs.
J. D.
Amazing food! Highly recommend the Christmas dinner & fish & chips!
10/10
A. D.
It was amazing, staff so friendly. Wasn't booked but lovely gentleman on door got us a table. Fab menu. Would go back.
t.
More expensive than your average chippy but located in the heart of Belfast. Had a fish bap on the menu which pleased me no end. Fantastic selection of dishes, all looked great. Fish bap came with bacon and egg which tasted amazing, although most of my colleagues thought I was weird. The picture doesn't lie though. A nice place and can see why it's been nominated for awards, but don't expect a fish supper for a fiver.
D. M.
20/02 Warm welcome, great selection on the menu and the food was fantastic. Sticky toffee dessert is amazing. Casual setting and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended
Went back 25/02, unfortunately the waiting staff was less attentive, and one seemed disappointed as a stream of diners came in around 8:30 pm. I think he might have been hoping for an early close, not great to see. Beef burger was ok, sticky toffee pudding was amazing.
J. C.
Ordered the cod bites and I can COMPLETELY understand why this is the best rated fish and chip 🤤🤤
N. F.
First visit good. Cod & chips was very tasty, portion size a bit small however (I went for the medium) and price a bit on the high side. That aside very nice, but won't be frequenting too often. Worth a visit to sample the cruisine.
P. F.
Great food, really friendly staff and great service. Definitely coming back!
R. V.
Very tasty and yummy fish and chips we had in a while. The cod was particularly outstanding and very flavorful. We were so impressed. Staff were very kind and polite to us too, which was a bonus. We took the meal away to eat on the river and it was still hot and yummy when we got there. Totally recommend for take-away... The eat in prices are a bit high tbh, but maybe also worth it.
M. D.
The name does not do justice to this gem. The seafood chowder was creamy and full of fish , it was delicious. The main courses were outstanding as well. I would highly recommend this place. We had the fisherman’s stew, just the right amount of kick and a lovely amount of seafood. The linguine was equally as pleasing. This is a real find.
G. W.
Food was lovely and service was great. Definitely let down by the standard of the restrooms.. Hard to look passed them when you go from having a lovely meal to using them. Apart from that I would definitely recommend the food!!
B. S.
Absolutely fantastic. The Thai Curry mussels were amongst the best I’ve had anywhere. Our main courses were both excellent too, especially the hake.
Service was very efficient and friendly. The first time we’ve called in but very definitely not the last.
D. W.
Fabulous traditional fish and chips in a comfortable, relaxed setting right in the heart of Belfast.
D. B.
Are you mad about fish? There's only one plaice😉 to eat in Belfast.
Fish City is spacious, food is outstanding and the staff are fabulous.
A great variety but not a over complicated menu.
Great to meet the owner who chatted to us for ages. Couldn't recommend this establishment highly wnough 5 stars seems inadequate.
R. W.
Fantastic juice and friendly stuff~nice experience~
L. J.
Delicious food (goat cheese starter and seafood chowder) and excellent service.
C. W.
Booked a table on a Thursday evening. Staff were brilliant. We took our Guide Dog Puppy and the staff were amazing. They gave us a table away from others and offered a bowl of water to the dog.
Food was delicious. Oysters to start and then fish and chips, fisherman's curry and squid. All excellent.
Hard to fault. Lovely evening and great food and staff.
H. U.
Attentive staff - both to customers and the presentation of their delicious seafood offerings. Smoked salmon was a delight. Fish and chips were flaky and light - a delicious departure from some of Belfast’s other F&C plates. Wine list is what you’d expect and interior is cozy yet open. I’d definitely recommend this spot.
E. H.
After looking around for quite some time for a gluten free chip shop this little gem popped up! Located in the heart of the city and a short walk from the river, this little take away/restaurant is a delight to visit. The staff where very freindly and they where very helpful when it came to food allergy information. Would definitely visit again soon! Also I was very impressed with their covid safety measures with all staff wearing visors, a waiting and booking system at the door and the most impressive tempature sensor upon entering the building. Great job Fish City!
K. K.
My first ever fish and chips in this part of the world. From "Fish City" I expected something much more. I could not taste much fish because of the amount of fat. My friend liked the goujons though. The inside of the restaurant was just okay. The staff was nice.
F.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, very prompt service for eating in! they do take away as well. Food was delicious and very well priced given the high quality of fish! And their fish is Msc certified which is brilliant to see! Very important in this day and age! Can't recommend it highly enough! They had a vegan and vegetarian options as well
m. d.
Had a lovely lunch here today. I had the 'sea dog' a lovely battered piece of cod on a ciabatta roll with beetroot salad and chunky chips. My husband had the special cod, chips and mushy peas..delicious. Very friendly staff we were tucking into our lunch eight minutes after ordering. Will definitely be back.
P.
We was in this restaurant whit my friend and I can say only it is absolutely amazing food very taste!
Restaurant is small, and looking very modern and fresh.
Very clean places and all small details give so good atmosphere.
Staff it is very professional and very friendly, men can help you to make a good decision about what you want choice. Menu is good, everything what u want you will definitely found.
Food is very taste and fresh, so many flavours in dishes! All of them is different!
Thank you so much for the good food and amazing service !
Good luck in future!

This has to be one of the best restaurants in Belfast. The staff are friendly, prompt yet not overbearing. Plenty of seating and has a private feel despite the fact it's bright and airy.
The food is without doubt the best seafood I've eaten, it's as fresh as fresh can be and cook directly in front of customers. Ample selection of drinks/alcohol available. It was only on my third visit that I went for the dessert menu and I wish I'd done it earlier...don't miss out.
If I'm being picky I'd say they probably need an extra bathroom mainly due to how busy they are but in total you'll get a 5 star visit.

The place is OK. Located nearby the Belfast city center, its easy to find. The staff were great and energetic. The food tasted good too. However, my stomach got upset after the food at night. i cannot exactly pin this on food but i have my doubts. A good place to hangout with friends and have food
A.
We had oyster Rockefeller style and a fish burger. Both dishes were very tasty and we had a exceptionally nice and friendly waitress serving us! It was a regular price for the oyster (there were six in the portion, which comes with a nice and fresh salad), it was quite a good value!
M. B.
Despite not having a booking and the place busy. They facilitated us and served great food. Definitely worth a visit if your about Belfast
A. C.
Food was fresh and fish blended well with everything on the plate. My wife got the fish and chips and commented it was the best she had since starting out trip to Ireland. Espresso martini was excellent!
P.
Good place to eat, if you like fish, of course. The quality of the food is very good, with a good presentation and good portions. Pricewise is fair. The service is perfect: friendly waiters will be there any moment you need it with good knowledge of the product. Really worthy!
D. K.
Lovely fish and dedicated staff but I loathe the outdated huoster idea that chips need to be in a small bucket or mesh container ( chips in a bucket retain moisture) 10 years living in Belfast & still no where is as good as Scottish chip shops. GOOD effort but still 3 stars
K. J.
Stopped in because I randomly walked by. The seafood and service was top notch.
A. L.
The hake was very good, the mashed potatoes were very good with the broccoli purée. My mom loved the curry, and the seafood pasta was delicious as well. Good service and well prices! The oysters are also splendid. The servers were very attentive.
P. P.
Great bit of grub! Good for all age groups and accommodating to food Intolerances.
d. k.
Fresh food, great service. The chilli salt squid was awesome, so was the paella. Lots of gluten free options listed on the menu. Mocktails are a bit overpriced.
M. A.
Food was excellent and service was super friendly and genuine. I believe Lucy looked after us very well and was super friendly.
Fish was unreal, burger was out of the world and the linguine was top notch!! Will be back for sure
R. B.
Excellent restaurant. Amazing food. Very friendly staff.
P. T.
The fish is fresh and well prepared in a light batter. Good service, great fish and chips. Not for those who value irrationally large portions. This is a place of quality not quantity.
K. G.
Best fish and chips. Ever. The mussels were so tasty. The covid safety precautions made me feel very comfortable and the staff were very professional and helpful
R. S.
Very fast service, friendly staff and most importantly MSC certified sustainable fish and chips. It was delicious and the good fish guides on the tables was a nice touch. I also had a very nice local cider. Highly recommended!
J. Z.
Probably the best fish restaurant in the whole Northern Ireland. We have visited the restaurant twice so far and it hasn't disappointed. Service is great and the food is fantastic! What else do you need?! 👍🏻
S. A.
Loved the good selection of seafood and variety of dishes from light to spicy. Though they could look into more hygiene around the toilet area. A busy restaurant should be keeping the toilets clean every hour rather than once in two hours.
T. M.
Lovely food, lovely staff. Will definitely visit again when I'm back in Belfast.
D. M.
Good grub, nice location. I've always walked past and never thought of it but the wee man wanted fish and chips. We should listen to the 4yr old more often
J. W.
Expensive, the medium fish (haddock) looked like the small one that my friend ordered but it wasnt IT WAS THE MEDIUM ONE but funny enough there wasnt much taste of it. The chips were good (non greasy) but my weee tub of mushy peas were only luke warm but the most pleasent talkative waitress Siobhan was excellent & gave me a much warmer tub of musgy peas. The pot of tea was massive & heavy to lift enough for 4 people but no complaints there. My knickerbocker glory was suposed to have cream in it but it had none & the fruit was bitter BUT the ice cream tasted great & a staff member would let them know regarding no cream.
Z. M.
Great fish and chips!
A. W.
The best fish and chips I've ever had! Lightly battered delicious cod, chips the way chips should be and flavoursome mushy peas. The rest of the menu also looked tasty, nice clean decor and friendly, fast service. Highly recommend!
J. J.
Lovely seafood restaurant had the fisherman's curry, spicy and really, really nice. Service not bad hence 4 stars but definitely better than most. Asked for combo side only got rice. But very little to complain about in real terms. Recommend to visit and eat.
C. P.
Visited Fish City when in Belfast for a night. Really enjoyed it. Excellent fish and chips, so tasty. Visited with my mum who doesn't like chips and they subbed in mash no problem. Very friendly, smiley staff. Fast service also. Would recommend!
J. P.
Coming from the south of france, i really found my foods in accord with my origins. Very fair price too for the quality. I advise this place.❤ (NOT FISHY AT ALL😂)
B. A.
Had a great meal there, truly awesome food and some of the loveliest service we’ve ever had. Their fish & chips is light and not greasy at all and their pan fried fish is divine. Highly recommended.
E. M.
Good services good food friendly staff
C. M. G.
Delicious fresh fish and chips, homemade tartare sauce and mushy peas.
M. M.
Food excellent and service quick, professional and friendly - ate on Sunday at 1.15 pm and did not need to make a reservation
M. C.
Had salt and pepper squid followed by a haddock supper. Very pleasant staff and food was very good. Portions aren't the largest and the prices are in the high side, but I keep coming back since the flavour and quality is there.
B. M.
We had 2 Spanish visitors staying with us and they wanted to try seafood in Ireland. We went to Fish City where we were warmly welcomed. Our waiter was very patient as we went through the menu with my son translating. The mussels were a great starter.. Enjoyed by all. 2 Scampi, squid and seafood linguini were all hits. We had no room for desserts. A Spanish waitress called Marta also came up to soak with our friends. She was so friendly and made the night for them. A super spot for food and craic.
B. R.
Great fish and chips. Lovely light batter. Really enjoyed it.
W. S.
It's been over a year since our trip to Belfast and Fish CIty still stands out as a memorable restaurant and excellent meal. Delicious fish, outstanding staff, and great atmosphere. Would highly recommend to anyone spending time in Belfast.
A. M.
My two sisters and I had a fabulous meal in Fish City yesterday. Kevin, thanks for bread & butter for our chip butties & for the craic
A. “. W.
We really enjoyed our meal here, our waiter (Emmett) was friendly and helpful and the food was delivered quickly, piping hot and very tasty. Vegetarian options are available.
P. R.
Best fish & chips in Belfast
A. J.
Good quality fish, tartar sauce was out of this world! Little bit over priced for what you get though.
V. P.
Was here yesterday. Ordered one large one regular haddock and chips and drinks. Waited about 30 minutes for the food. Wasntnt asked which meal was for who just set down. Asked for the drinks and waited asked again and waited. They arrived when we had finished eating. Fish were not that big. People who came in after us had there drinks given when they ordered them. Not a great first time experience.
S. C.
If you are looking for a great Fish and Chips experience you have come to the right place. It’s by the beat Fish and Chips shop in the UK with the fish cooked to perfection - succulent and fluffy fish with the batter cooked just right.
The staff are also very friendly.
Thoroughly recommended.
C. M.
Staff were very friendly and attentive. Whilst a little small side for the price point, the fish was very tasty, and the included side portion of chips was generous enough. There was no need to purchase a drink, as water was provided for the table free of charge as an option without needing a special request.
Has gluten free options for those who require it.

I usually don't have time to write reviews as I own a few businesses some of them in the customer service industry as well. Therefore I feel the need to write this review all though it is a bit late.
On the 18th July My wife, Toddler and I had a meal at this restaurant. (Both fish and chips; medium totalling pounds. My meal arrived ok, however my wife's meal was very dry, like eating sawdust as she explained. Even the baby didn't eat it, and he loves fish.
My wife did not want to complain and finished her meal, however I found it necessary to bring this to the attention of the server as we asked for the bill.
The server went to the kitchen for a minute and came back saying that the fish was placed in the fryer at the same time and they don't know why one piece would come out dry. She took the bill, brought us the change and walked away.
Now my issue I have with this is as follows:
If a customer complains about something acknowledge, apologise whether it is your fault or not and find a solution.
Now for me a simple apology would have been fine as I am not interested in complaining to get something out of it. It was however disappointing that the manager or server did not even offer a simple 10% discount as an apology or an apology period!
Not even a "thank you for dining with us, hope to see you again soon".
I have found that many restaurants have good marketing strategies of getting the customers to eat their food but somehow food is of a general poor quality and because people are used to this standard of preparation, they tend to be happy with anything that is above the general standard, thus the many 5 star reviews.
I have noticed that there are many similar reviews to mine which you don't take note of as it is hidden unless you look for them.
If you want to keep your customer, ensure your customer service is up to scratch whether the food is good or bad, because people will remember and applaud you more when you are able to solve an issue.
F. M.
Friendly staff and nice looking place but I was expecting more from an award winning fish and chips restaurant...
Portions were small for the price and the food itself was decent but nothing special. I also thought that the service was mediocre, and I had to wait very long for food and to pay the bill.
I would only recommend this place if you want a nice time with your friend and family in a cozy place and that you’re not in a rush.
T. C.
Yes I liked the place. I really liked the sustainability and the information to take away. Lovely chips.
K. W.
This is one of the best places to eat F&C in Belfast. The fish supper is great, it comes with a lovely crispy batter which is not slimy or greasy. The staff are lovely and friendly and we often call in for a treat when in town. The fish supper comes with chips and mushy peas and tartar sauce and is a very filling. There are other options on the menu too including a healthy eating option and fish burgers and Halloumi ! It certainly gives 'Longs F&C' a run for their money. We went when it first opened and the hype is really down to customers liking it so much, I think after that a number of awards followed. The reputation as an award winning Fish and Chip eatery is well deserved, it is stylish and simple, not pretentious and just serves great food. I would recommend Fish city to any visitor to Belfast. I am a fan !!
T. O.
Supposedly the best Fish and Chips in Belfast. Unfortunately our sever "doesnt like fish" and was unable to give us any recommendations for our order. She also didn't like wine, which made her essentially useless for the questions we had. The food was good, but the service and lack of information was inexcusable. You'd expect a place that wants to market themselves as a top restaurant would also ensure a knowledgable contingency of staff.
R. B.
Had a fairly long wait, but this was due to a dinner time rush so couldn't be helped. Had the cod supper, really delicious, good chunky chips.
My partner had the fish curry. Which she wasn't as fussed on but also wasn't bad either.
Also had chocolate brownies for dessert and these were scrumptious.
Felt like portions could have been bigger for the cost but it was probably better value than most restaurants around Victoria Square.
Service was decent, manager was really polite and chatty, but most of the other staff seemed quite new, a little bit disorganised but still well mannered.
Will definitely go back and was worth trying instead of my usual boojum!
L. C.
Quite pricey. I got the fish and chips. The fish was really good but the chips were not good.
P. G.
First time visiting here,OMG the food is gorgeous!!! Have told everyone and definitely worth lots more visits!!!
R. S.
Great food speedy service, couldn't fault it. Well worth a visit for a quick late lunch.
W. C. K.
Nice experience. Fish is awesome. Chips is awesome.
P. M.
Brilliant meal once again highly recommend the fisherman's curry and a lovely pint of guiness 5 stars all day with great staff
A. S.
Absolutely delicious Christmas dinner! A little expensive but the service is wonderful
J. R.
Fantastic surroundings and great food. If you are in Belfast City Centre you have got to try Fish City. Their fish is simply wonderful. Take out is also available. Leave plenty of time to enjoy your fish supper.
C. O.
Dairy free in most meals and had a delightful food. Pints were dear but the place itself was enjoyable.
D. B.
Went here tonight with my sister for the first time and the food was out of this world and the sticky toffee pudding was to die for will definitely be back as the staff really nice and we felt safe as everybody's temperature taken on way in and asked to use sanitizer 5 stars+ in my books
C. M.
It is a great place to have fish and chips. All items are sustainably sourced. The number of current awards they have is amazing. It was a little pricy but I guess that goes hand and hand with the quality and sourcing. All in all great time there.
A. M.
This place will do the best fish you ever tasted, but be prepared for a hefty bill afterwards...
P. B.
Lovely fish restaurant but not really a fish and chip shop when you need / want/ searched for fish and chips. Fish ( Cod) cooked well but sparse on the chips and mushy peas. Nice tea.
Will try again when I want fish
l. m.
Had a fabulous meal here good choice on menu +service was excellent very friendly staff.
M. U.
This is one of the best fish and chip restaurants you can find in the center of Belfast, whether you live in Belfast or if you come to visit the city, it is an excellent place to eat, the food and the clean and friendly atmosphere invite you to want to come back again. great quality - price.
M. Q.
Clean, comfortable setting, friendly staff, but pricy menu, trappings of fine dining for a fish&chip shop, and just average table attention given by the wait staff. Also, the portion size is proportionately small to the much higher price tag per small, medium, and large cuts of fish. And please get rid of those clumsy stainless steel chip baskets, it's an illusion of fancy, not at all necessary. €15-25 if you have a pint.
Ķ. R.
Great fish and chips cooked to perfection with mushy peas and bread and butter. Staff very efficient and friendly and had time to chat. When I go to Belfast I know where I am going for my fish and chips.
P. M.
Called in on a Saturday evening, restaurant was fairly busy but still received a seat straight away, staff were very friendly and provided a very quick service. Food was of the highest quality and provided a refreshing twist on the classic chip shop menu. A little bit more expensive than your average chip shop but worth the extra money and cheaper than the restaurants in Victoria Square.
D. H.
If you like fish, you will love Fish City.
Great food, great service by nice people and you can enjoy a good wine with your meal. Brilliant.
D. S.
Fantastic food and staff. The Thai fish cakes were beautiful as were the muscles and salmon. I would highly recommend Fish City. Also you can get food to go brilliant.
D. H.
Really enjoyed my first visit and will be recomending it to all my friends. As a solo dinner I was made to feel very welcome by all the Staff. Amazing service and food arrived promptly. A hidden gem, already planning my return visit.
R. B.
Delicious seafood beautifully presented with generous portions. Wonderful and friendly staff and plenty of gluten free options. Best seafood in Belfast bar none.
M. J.
Food absolutely outstanding, went for a family meal as visited from Wales, staff very friendly and went out of their way for us as I asked for blackcurrant in my cider, they didn't have any but went and got some using their tip money. Will defo be visiting again. Too notch
J. M.
We enjoyed the dinner at this place as the service was amazing and the food was great. Ain't a big fan of fish and chips but the one from this place deserves a try
J. O.
Friendly staffs, cosy ambience. Seafood are fresh and delicious. Their cod is so delicious that you could taste the sweet and umami of the fish. If the chips and cod are crispier, then it would be a 10/10 fish and chips👌🏼
R. L.
Don’t see the hype of this place, fish and chips was ok and scampi was so so, have had the same of not better from some chippys! Everything was just fine but felt like I was being rushed out by staff
A. G.
Very nice, food was great. And the icing on the cake was the owner of the place Ms Groignne who was amazingly charming, and who looked after us well. Best wishes, we will be back..
M. S.
Best Fish and Chips I've ever had. Mostly due to the fish being well seasoned and generous portions. Ruined fish and chips for me anywhere else so far...
M. C.
Absolutely delicious food and wonderful friendly staff. A great evening!
R. H.
I have been hear quite a few times and can best describe it as an up market fish and chip restaurant with some good awarders under it's belt. With all the favourets you can expect from a good old chippie with a few new and tastey addions from curry to fish burgers. It promotes sustainability and the place to be if you are in the mood for a tasty fish and chip in the city centre. It also has some great deserts you wouldn't expect, good table service and local beers.
S. W.
Absolutely fantastic. Delicious meal with fantastic fun service. Definitely hope to be back.
G. V.
Not your standard fish place. As well as fish n chips it has great fish soups, pies and other classics. All fresh, crispy and served with a smile. Great value lunch menu.
A. R.
Freshly cooked good quality fish and scampi. Fast efficient service.
f. c.
The experience was great, from the fish that was fried at the right point to the service that was so kind! I was really and positively surprised by the suistanabilty accountancy! I'm definitely coming back soon!
T. M.
Hi to all the staff at fish city Belfast,
we travelled from Bangor to Belfast for gluten free fish & chips and we weren't disappointed the food is excellent and the hygiene is second to none, what a lovely place to relax and enjoy a lunch or evening meal, great prices, staff very helpful & friendly.
Best gluten free fish and chips in the North of Ireland.
K. B.
Got a fish curry, was very nice although I dont like coconut but would reccomend it if u like coconut, everything else was beautiful, bit expensive, although we got ours on the August deals through Covid
S. S.
Friendly staff. Food is a bit expensive for lunch however it was extremely good. If you don't mind spending a bit and you like fish then it's worth a visit.

R. J. R.
Enjoyed some tasty fish and chips here and at a reasonable price. Definitely worth a visit if you are in town. Fast and friendly service.
S.
Exceeded my expectation and I'll be back.
I went for the house specialities of the day: a starter with grilled goat cheese combined with herbs and jam. Than the hake with mashed potato, broccoli, mussels, etc. All very nice
In the area, side streets, few interesting pub just in case you are up for extending your time.
L. A. P.
Great! Mussells were fantastic as was the haddock and chips. The sharing dessert was delicious. Will definitely visit again next time I'm in Belfast.
P. S.

S. L.
Ordered the fish and chips (cod). The staff was super friendly and let me swap the chips for a green salad. Would be nice if the portion was a little bigger!
p. m. c.
I enjoyed the fish I had I ordered a medium haddock. I would love to have seen the small one.Nice place will I be back no to expensive .Oh and the peas were marrow fat heated up not proper mushy peas.
J. H.
Very good menu, staff very courteous and helpful, the fish is to die for. Some might find menu a little pricey but again we are in Belfast city centre.
N. L.
Great food, a little over priced though. We came in at a really busy time and it was difficult getting service, we had quite a long wait for food, however the house manager realised this, came over and apologised and offered us free dessert.
H. P.

P. C.
Had take away fish and chips, was a little disappointed...the mushy peas were not green and the oil may have been a bit old, chips were good, fish wasn't bad
