I booked The Barking Dog for my anniversary dinner with my husband. Booking a table was super easy and I was able to add in the comments that I needed their gluten free menu. When I arrived, the gluten free menu was there waiting on me, no awkwardness at all! This proved to me that the staff in the Barking Dog read the comments sent in with booking, unlike other restaurants I've been to in Belfast. The staff were amazing the whole night, very attentive and had a laugh with us. The food was outstanding, I cannot recommend it highly enough. From tapas starter, to dessert, everything was perfect. Gorgeous atmosphere to top it all off. 10/10 highly recommend.

An unregrettable food service is offered here. Recommended if you are new to Belfast and try out some Irish and Italian dishes.

The food is amazing, it's my favourite restaurant in Belfast. The sweet potato gnocchi with smoked chicken are amazing, and the same can be said for the sweet potato ravioli (unfortunately only at lunch). The chicken supreme and the sirloin steak are also very good. Among the desserts the apple tart tatin is delicious and the espresso crème brulée is very good. The peanut butter brownie is ok but could be better and surely is not worth the 7.25GBP you pay for it. Unfortunately the menu is always the same with slightly seasonal variations. As an aficionada I'd like to find my favourite dishes together with new ones. On a less pleasant note, I found the portions incredibly smaller: 10 gnocchi as a main is absolutely ridiculous. Having ordered a main and a dessert, we have left still hungry. The bill was extremely pricey: more than 17 pounds for the main with 10 gnocchi and over 7 pound for the dessert ( a slice of brownie and a scoop of ice cream, not a patisserie masterpiece!). We were a bit perplexed

We had a nice afternoon lunch at the barking dog. The food was nice and fresh. We had ordered a goat cheese pasta and beef. The desserts were also good. Apple pie and creme brulee. The only problem I had with the creme brulee was with the serving. It was a very thin layer of the creme brulee. It could be served in a deeper bowl. Otherwise it was a nice experience.

Good food, great service and the staff are very friendly. Last time I was here (almost 3 years ago) I've been enjoying it so much, this time though it was OK but I was not amazed by the food at all, it was good but definitely did not meet my expectations. Says its dog friendly we sat outside as dogs werent allowed in been to plenty of places dog friendly & weve sat inside steak burger was a whole steak in burger we thought it was nice on its own but not in a burger bap barely any flavour there was no cheese just steak in a bap with purple coleslaw and the chip were like kfc with a bit of salt manager was quite rude at first and seemed displeased that we had our dog until we mentioned to the waiter then she came out and was all lovely the price id give it a miss quality of the food wasnt worth it

Amazing restaurant in the centre of Belfast. Delicious food, quick service and friendly staff. The management obviously expect high standards from their staff and the waiters and waitresses seem pleased to give their best. There was a great atmosphere and the decor gave it an authentic restaurant feel. It was packed with happy diners. Large portions and good value. I personally had the beef Shortrib, Pickled Carrot, Spicy Dipping Sauce for starters,was one of the nicest starters ive ever had, for the main i had the 10oz Dry Aged Sirloin that just melted in my mouth, couple of the party had burgers, no wonder its the the place of Belfast’s Best Burger it was delicious, we were there for birthday party,staff couldnt do enough for us setting up balloons and bringing cake out. Even complementry bottles of prosecco,i would like to thank chef and proprietor Michael O’Connor for fantastic night. Definitely 5 stars.

My wife booked us in for my birthday. She told me that she added a comment when booking online to request a window seat - which we got! You are simply guaranteed a great feed. We go mainly for the Shin Burgers, fantastic every time and cooked to your liking of medium-well or well-done. The tapas selection is also varied and a 3 for £12 is a good starter idea for a couple's date night. There is plenty to choose from for your main meal, I would say there is likely something for everyone. The dessert menu selection is fine but pricey at £6.50 - perhaps more for your money elsewhere however the ambience makes up for it so you might find yourself ordering one to stay there a bit longer. Drinks wise the beer selection is fine (not amazing) and £2.50 for a 200ml coke seems high, but then maybe all things considered the restaurant industry has certainly had its fair share of problems and so it's justified? Service was prompt and friendly throughout. At the end of the night the waiter delivered my dessert with a candle and sang Happy Birthday! A very nice touch to a lovely evening. Overall a solid 5 stars and would recommend a visit... Or a revisit if you haven't been recently.

We brought another couple who are so fussy when it comes to food and they agreed you couldn't fault it. Easy online booking - recommend booking early for weekend timeslots. Service was good and attentive (tho one server perhaps nearly too keen to offer to clear plates!) . Food is really excellent. Recommend especially the vegetarian sweet potato gnocchi or the outstanding beef burger. Also the flavoursome scampi, with its feather light batter. Whatever you choose, you'll enjoy as the quality of ingredients and superb cooking guarantees a great meal.

Went on Saturday night as a group of six but had forgotten to book the restaurant on our long itinerary for the weekend but there was sufficient room to fit us all in. A very unwelcoming member of staff was the only downside for the visit, she was the only rude person for ALL of our Belfast trip, best forgotten! Otherwise all their staff were wonderful, helpful and chatty regards to all of the food, all our questions were put to the chefs and replied to with wit and banter as expected from the Belfast people. The cheeses were to die for, all local produce, even their own cheese on the menu, Young Buck!! We've only ever seen it for sale in the Altrincham market who sell out as soon as they have it available! Try it if you are ever there, wonderful, especially with Belfast wheaten bread Y-U-M-M-Y!! All of the menu was amazing but far too much was eaten & drunk on the night (Not a complaint, a compliment on the food, chef and staff to be honest!!). As Arnie said, 'I'll be back!!' that'd for sure, the sooner the better. A wonderful restaurant.

This is a great little restaurant, but book well in advance as it may be difficult to get a table. I ordered the ham gnocchi which was phenomenal, each bite offering different flavours, while my wife had the pasta special which she also quite enjoyed. From start to finish we had a fabulous evening and first experience of The Barking Dog for a dear friend's 50th birthday celebrations. Good ambience and lovely food. My starter was bread with olive tapenade. It was fine but not very interesting, so I wouldn't recommend that starter. The vegetarian menu was good. Pasta with goat.s cheese was excellent. Very well made pasta and a really tasty sauce made with very fresh ingredients. The dessert was also excellent. I enjoyed the beer and particularly like the variety of menus for different dietary requirements. Only thing is, I don't want to install an app to see the menu before going.

My wife and I were in Belfast for a weekend and found the Barking Dog by accident - and were lucky to do so. The food was fantastic and the staff really nice and efficient. They made some suggestions for our trip the next day which were excellent and although we usually prefer to try different places whenever we go out - we returned the next night because it was so good. I can’t say enough good things about The Barking Dog. Very nice location. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and asked if we had a reservation. We didn’t have one but it wasn’t a problem and we were seated immediately. I think a reservation is recommended on the weekends so keep that in mind. We started with a carafe of tap water and I ordered a carafe of Sav Blanc for me and my wife. The tapas were recommended by a local so that is what we planned for dinner. £4 pounds for 1, £11 for 3 or , £16 for 5. We choose to start with 2 orders of the Short Ribs with pickled carrots, 1 order of marinated goats cheese with roasted red pepper and arugula, 1 order of sweet potato fritters with a pesto style sauce and 1 order of chicken satay fritters. It was brought out promptly and was all delicious! For an entree we split an order of house made sweet potato gnocchi with spinach, mushroom, tomato chicken and a brown butter sauce. The entree was extremely fresh and fantastic. For dessert we shared the honeycomb ice cream because a local said it was a specialty of Ireland. It was some of the best vanilla ice cream I have ever tasted. It had just enough chocolate on the bottom and a piece of honeycomb on top which can be crumbled on top of the ice cream. All that to say our meal was top notch. I personally have been in the restaurant business for 14 years and am very aware of how the business works. BUT our server Tavi was one of the best hospitality professionals I have had the pleasure to experience. I believe he told me he was also the manager. If the owner is reading this review, do everything you can to hold on to this gentleman. He is prompt, professional and entertaining. Thank you Tavi and The Barking Dog for a wonderful birthday dinner!
