Reviews of Itihaas

This place is no short of a 5 star!
The food here is absolutely amazing and purely Indian. We had the Nairobi samosas and the beg Manchurian for the starters which was pretty descent but probably not good for the price bracket they are in. For the main course we had their jungle chicken curry which reminded of the streets of Delhi.
The place itself is nice with a cozy ambience and good private seating sections. Their alcohol selection is good with a mix of spirits and cocktails but unfortunately they don’t have any draft which was a no deal for me but overall its a good selection of bottles.
The staff at the restaurant are extremely courteous and helpful. The best part is that they have the knowledge of the food they are serving (which is a like a lost art in the restaurants these days). Our server Anmol was quite aware of the dishes and served us brilliantly.
Overall i would say a 4.5 but gave a 5 for the service.
My ratings:-
Food- 5/5
Ambience-4/5
Service-5/5
Price-4/5

Yummylicious!!! The BEST Indian food you can get in the UK. All the dishes tasted so authentic, fresh and flavorsome. Loved the ambience. Definitely im gonna come back soon. 👌🏻

Very good restaurant still since opening in early 2000’s food 10/10, service 8/10, can’t fault, major downside was ladies toilet very unpleasant same with the baby changing facility, I advise the toilets should be checked during service to check if in clean condition.
B. C.
Always great service and authentic Indian flavour. Today my family was served by Anmol from Delhi. Very humble and knowledgeable gentleman.

The Decor is beautiful! Absolutely stunning, authentic and very eye catching. Our 11 week old daughter is exclusively breastfed… this is my one worry whenever we go out to eat. We went ahead to explain to one of the gentlemen working there. He was so kind and so helpful that one of their private dining areas that was not being used he offered us to use so i could comfortably feed my daughter. They offered us a table at the back of the restaurant should we need to walk around to soothe her, and near to the bathroom & baby changing.
They went above and beyond to pace our courses knowing we had a baby with us. Very patient, very kind people.
The food was absolutely amazing! traditional flavours and dishes. would definitely recommend anyone to try here! Do not be put off by prices, the food is worth it!
Will be going again.
10/10

The food and service at this place was fantastic. Food came out fast and fresh! The prawn starter was simply divine and I would love to come again to try more of the food!!

We had a vegan meal here and it was superb!
We had the chana massala dish and the tardka daal. They were spicy without being over powering, with lots of flavour. The rice was perfectly cooked and there's a vegan roti (the naans aren't vegan) which again was really good.
It was a nice atmosphere and good service.
Curries are between £9-15 and we shared a rice and bread between 2 which was plenty. A good range of drinks.

Itihaad was a great experience - the food was amazing and the service was just as good. There’s also a really tasty range of soft drinks.

Been a long established Indian fine dinning restaurant for over a decade...and nothing has really changed. Wouldn't say in the top 5 for fine dinning Indian, however, still very good food. Can't understand why decor after 10 odd years still is the same and a little dated. Perhaps just me.
Anyway, food is very good. Always like the thaali options as great way to share and pick and mix.
Had a street food thaali (full of starter type options) which is great to share. Also had a Shahi thaali (meat version) perfect.
Polished off with a shrikand Mango cheesecake.
Nice.
Service not bad, considering were part of a large group.

A cosy & big restaurant. The interior decor is amazing and they have a very detailed bar with various selections. The food was simply amazing. The staff are good. Only feedback is that we were waiting for all of the members to arrive, till the starters were brought out. I understand this is the process when we go for a set menu. But almost 90% of the group were there.
Otherwise the food was lovely and very well balanced

We decided to head to Itihaas for a small birthday celebration. My diet is quite restricted (gluten free and plant based) but I was able to choose with confidence from the menu, and enjoy a mocktail as well.
The staff are attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable without being pushy and excellent overall.
We had a great meal, at a fair price, and thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
M. S.
Meat quality was good but lacked the punch of flavour. The main course served was warm rather than hot, I guess the chef wanted to go home early. The manager kept giving us excuses rather than an apology.

I rarely give 5 stars but itihaas deserved it. Atmosphere was very nice and very friendly, staff were warm and welcoming and the food was tastey and plentiful. Plus people at the table next to us gave us some if there birthday cake as it was my birthday too ! Lovely meal out
k. s.
Excellent ambience and quite decent food!

We chose Itihaas as the menu looked quite small and a little different to what we normally see. We both chose a thali from a lovely sound choice of dishes. We have never had a thali before and we were truly both amazed. Very quickly we both agreed it was the best Indian food we had ever eaten. I think we both would have said this even had the food been more expensive - it was great value for money. We will compare future Indian restaurants to this one. Yummy.

Food was really good. Being of Indian origin I rarely like Indian restaurant food. However it was definitely top notch. I had murgh mahkani and palak paneer. Space level was perfect and food tasted authentic. Service was good too. As we went as a walk in , no reservation. Only thing was a few other customers/tables were a bit loud, but restaurant can't help that

Been coming to this establishment for many many years. One of the best Indian restaurants in birmingham. Food is cooked too perfection. Service is first class. The location & place itself is very nice. Parking may be an issue but that’s pretty standard in the city. Worth every penny. I recommend SOY Shashlik Tikka or tandoori paneer as a starter & main I would say Punjabi kadhi. Top class food. 5 stars
G. E.
Wonderful! In fact it was bloody wonderful! A fantastic vegan & veggie options, try the Chat Pattigol Guppa, a taste experience to savour. Saroj was our “man” and looked after us like long lost family.
Value? Yes, very good quality so it was a different kind of value.
Merlot was the fine wine option. Xx

Easily one of the best Indian meals I've ever eaten.
From the atmosphere, via the welcome and warm, friendly service, to the simply outstanding food, Itihaas is one of the finest restaurants I've dined at in recent memory.
Prices are a little above average, but the quality of what's on offer is more than worth paying a bit extra.
A. F.
I went to Itihaas 4 times so far and choose different meals. I enjoyed them all. They also do cocktails, wine and beer. It's very good for groups I would say, the only issue is that it gets very noisy when full, especially on the weekend, so if you are after a quiet meal this won't be the best choice. Service is good, attentive and polite staff. I will definitely eat there again.

It is lockdown in the city where I used to live many moons ago. I haven't been out since March for a curry thanks to covid19 so the chance to visit a place in the centre was a real treat. I was working out near the nec and did some research and this seemed to be a pretty good solid restaurant. With a cocktail menu as big as the food I was a little unsure of what I'd stumbled into. However the food and service was excellent. Not cheap but a real tasty series of dishes shared with some buddies id not seen for ages so was well worth it. Standout was the lamb spinach with the lentil Dahl and murg chicken. Also the mushroom truffle rice was excellent. Enjoy!
D.
The food is delicious and the service is spot on, it is one of most expensive meals I've ever had so I would expect this. My only complaint is that the building does seem to smells of pee (they've tried to use burning incense to cover it up) and the mens urinal is definitely leaking as the floor in the men's toilets under the urinal was soaked even just after it opened. For the price we paid, issues like that should not be given long enough to stink out the whole building.
S. H.
Excellent food, good customer service. The mixed grill is very good, with very tender lamb chops; you will notice the difference when compared to other similar restaurants offerings.
It was explained that decor items were shipped in to create the authentic look feel it has. The restaurant was clean, with a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, though I know it can become busy at time, however the quality remains good. The food is reasonable priced given the standard.
I will continue to dine here as and when the opportunity arises.
Note that there is a multistorey car park within 3-4 minutes away from the restaurant, if street parking bays are full.
N. S.
The place is an upmarket Indian restaurant which is reflected in the price of the food and interior design of the restaurant itself. The crowd was fairly mixed with a large proportion being Indian (so you know at least it's authentic). Service - mixed, the pappodoms came really fast but the Mango Lassie came much later. In general, the waiters know their thing and more than happy to recommend. The food did come only after 30 mins of ordering. We ordered the meat starter and it was the best lamb chops I ever had - juicy and succulent (lamb chops will never taste the same again!), layer rotis (okay-ish) and Lamb Rogan (the gravy was a bit bland but the lamb melted in my mouth). Overall, the food is okay but the quality is not on par with the pricing. Maybe if I ordered something else, my views would be different.
A. c.
Parking is horrible here! Staff are rude and nasty regarding reservations. Drinks were watered down, food was mediocre, ambiance was okay.

@itihaasrestaurant a really beautiful Indian restaurant, based in Birmingham
We stumbled across this place looking for a different place surprisingly enough 😂 what a find!
This is a fine dining restaurant, everything about it looked 😍, the decor was immaculate and lavish, colourful and innovative!
What we ordered:
• Mix Starter for 2 (it was masssssive) - it came with King Prawns, Chicken Tikka, Shish Kebab, Tandoori Ribs, Fish Tikka & Lamb Chops 🔥
Mains:
• Laal Mirchi Rogan Josh
• Chicken Jungle Curry cooked on the bone
Sundries:
Romali Roti
Mushroom Rice
The food was amazing. The mix starter was probably one of the best mix starters I had, everything was cooked to perfection, the lamb chops weren’t tough, the fish tikka and the ribs were velvety, rich in flavour, everything was spot on!
I only tried the Laal Mirchi Rogan Josh, that was 🤤, if I wasn’t too full from the starter I’d have finished it 😂 the romali roti and mushroom rice were made perfectly, a great combination with the curries 🤤🤤
The service was fantastic and you could tell you were at a real fine dining place, it is pricier than your usual curry places, but you get the full works here at Itihaas and the food is absolutely top class 🤤🔥
To drink: Coke Zero 🥶

Great food and excellent service. Highly recommend this Indian restaurant if you're in the vicinity and fancy something different to high street Balti restaurants. Nice selection of food from across India and quite authentic in taste. Their starter of fried okra is a must try...
R. L.
Good decor, friendly staff and a clean place like you would expect. We enjoyed the vegetarian starter platter. Every item was tasty and exceeded expectations. We tried nan, kulcha, roomali roti and lachcha paratha. They were of good quality. Daal khadak Singh was a bit of disappointment. Palak paneer and baingan bartha were good. We like the home made kulfis. Overall a very good experience.

The perfect place for your favorite Indian dishes and cocktails. Whether it’s for lunch or dinner, it’s a place for both casual dining or a romantic night out. They also do catering, so if you need some delicious food for a big event, come here! The staff are welcoming, and they make you feel like you’re part of the family. The Managing Director and staff also work with a wonderful initiative in the community. I highly recommend it here!

Food great. Service great.
We reached before our reservation so we were made to sit at the bar and offered drinks.
The chinese starter was amazing. The food was right amount of spicy, portion size were good. Our waiter was super jovial and interactive. All in all a very good experience.
H. R.
Great restaurant with friendly staff. Food was amazing, especially Corriander Sea Bass Curry!
C. M.
Would of been a five if front of house had been managed better. We arrived on time to be told we could sit and wait, initially there was no where for us to sit but fortunately some seats became available by the door, which was freezing. 'm sorry but they were still taking bookings on the evening and we had to wait 20 minutes, with trains we needed to catch, there was no apology, over booked. Not a good welcome! Which was a shame as the service and food was exemplary but definitely need to sort front of house out.

Amazing ambience. Delicious authentic Indian food with quick service and friendly staff.

Great food. Ambience and service. Saroj treated us very courteously and gave us a great evening. Also other staffs very very pleasant and firneldly. Will visit again

No comment. This is the best restaurant I've ever been to handsdown.
The staff are absolutely amazing
Love you all
S. Z.
I've visited Itihaas on a number of a occasions now, and each time I've found the food to be delightful.

First visit with family party of 8 and a child parking was easy, a great welcome by staff, Food was ordered and came in good time and all dishes veg and none veg where excellent well done Itihaas

My wife and I went for our anniversary meal at Itihaas and can definitely say that the food, service and ambience were perfect. We could not have made a better choice for our special meal!
The staff fully understood our dietary needs and suggested great vegetarian dishes that we would not have normally selected.
Definitely the best Indian restaurant in Birmingham with a brilliant vegetarian selection!
M. D.
Overly priced and small portions. Food and the place was nice. Staff was friendly. Parking was a problem...
A. B.
Now were talking, indian cuisine at its finest. If you havent been to Itihaas my only question is why?
I would highly recommend.
A. P.
Great food, lovely ambiance, Saroj our waiter really went the extra mile!
A. C.
My wife and I very much enjoyed our evening out at Itihass, the food was great and the staff very welcoming and attentive. Definitely a cut above the standard Indian restaurant. We really enjoyed the mix grill starter which we shared, although there wasn't much room left for a main course after it.
N.
Service was fast and efficient. Every request catered for. Food was scrumptious. Best Indian around. Will be back.
h.
Been here a few times for dinner and lunch and it's consistently good. Service is excellent. Food is just amazing. Tried the street food thali this time and I'm already planning my next visit. Lots of veggy options too which is great.
J. S.
This is one of my favourite places to eat on special occasions, very clean love the decor inside, very professional service from the staff, best thing is they cater for Vegetarians, the veggie sharing platter is amazing and so are the mains, love the soya tikka kadahi and paneer makhani I can’t give any reviews on the desserts simply because I don’t have any room for them lol so the portions are more than adequate. everything you eat here is cooked to perfection!!
Z. L.
I highly recommend this establishment for anyone who is looking for a relaxing night out with food served and created from the best chefs in Birmingham for Indian cuisine. The bar team are extremely knowledgeable in there craft and are the front of house team. My girlfriend and I have been in twice and we've been loving it
B. D.
Great place to eat top quality Indian food in Birmingham. The layout was superb and service was excellent.
J. B.
Just had a main of Nalli Gosht with some naan bread and rice. Really excellently prepared curry. Minor criticism a bit too much salt but I don’t use any in my daily life so I’m probably more sensitive than most people. Service was very friendly. Great place to try Punjabi cuisine in Birmingham.
A. B.
Amazing food, drinks and staff are very welcoming. Have recommended this restaurants to my friends
G. T.
By far the best Indian dining experience.
Fantastic food and great service day or night.
G. B.
Wowee the Goan prawn curry tasted absolutely outstanding the waiting staff were tremendous and he brought us a bowl of chilli's to eat I would really recommend this place to anyone I did think the cobras were quite expensive and was sad that there was no lime pickle
A. F.
I often order from here and dine here, especially if I am entertaining guests.
They lever let me down, food is to an impeccable standard and tastes amazing too! I would say very thing is truly cooked to perfection!
Service is pretty good too, but food is the best. By far the best desi (south Asian restaurant in birmingham) and this is coming from someone who is Asian too! Keep it up, it’s worth every cent
Only downside is the building work taking place nearby which can make parking a bit tricky but go early and you can get parking.
On a personal note, I would prefer if they had smaller meat/chicken pieces in their curries but that’s nor here nor there 😊
Z. N.
Food is great every time I've been there. Great place to eat!
F.
Great restaurant, delicious food, friendly waiters, thank you so much🤍
S. G.
Superbly delicious indian food you can get in Central Birmingham. I am vegetarian & their Veg business Thali is simply delicious. Parking is usually in the side streets or on the main road. You must book table in advance to avoid dis-appointing wait. Once you are here, you will be coming again & again. Portion sizes are good, being greedy foody it can be improved. In the end worth a visit.
P. C.
Good tasting food!! Non Veg Thali was a great feast, also for the eyes, presented well. Also had the samosa chaat as starter - was really great.
Prices are on high side, very spicy food but looking full taste and authentic aromas. Great staff are very helpful and caring. Would definitely go again but try something different.
Z. A.
Great people, great staff, great management and amazing food. Definitely worth a visit. If I can say somebody knows how to cook, how to serve and how to manage a restaurant then this is definitely the place. Well guys fabulous.
R. B.
Superb vegan options and great service! We were a large group that arrived without a booking. One of the best Indian restaurants I’ve been to. I would definitely go back if I was in the area.
C. J.
Top, top restaurant. If you go to an Indian restaurant and a lot of the clients are of South Asian heretige they must be doing something right. Great food, service and ambiance.
f. r.
Lovely food, accommodating staff and also reasonably priced! Couldn’t fault the place!
F. A.
Gorgeous décor, gorgeous food, family friendly! very romantic setting
A. S.
Good place for indian food and friendly staff.

I can't even think of one con, all pros.
Affordable food, very tasty, good portion sizes, no long wait time for food, very neat and beautiful ambience and very considerate staff. Will definitely recommend and I am actually looking forward to going back when next I crave Indian food.
M. D.
It is nice and cosy and not really expensive. I've enjoyed it and I really liked the services. People working here are so much nice and helpful.
S. P.
One of my "goto" lunch destinations. The picture is of the executive thali - a lunchtime special and a feast in every sense of the word.
It's not a budget lunch, weighing in around the £15 mark, but it's a very special treat that shouldn't break the bank, and goes oh so well with a large cobra.
Itahaas ( I understand this means "History" ) has a pleasant theme celebrating the subcontinent.
There are so many Indian and Bangladeshi restaurants in Birmingham that sometimes it looks like we voted for quantity over quality. Itahaas is one of the few which bucks that trend.
M. W.
Excellent food, had to go 2 days in a row.
O. A.
Went in with work colleagues for lunch. The food portions were huge, definitely worth the charge of about £13.50
A.
Food was lovely. The starter platter for 2 is yum and worth it as it has a bit of eveything, the paneer tikka is also very nice! Curries were made to my liking and to be honest no complaints, they really did have an authentic 'desi' taste.
Staff were all very courteous and polite, always a plus. Just a long wait on receiving drinks, water and sauces.
All I will say is Parking is not ideal especially since it is all one-way and now in a low emission zone. Stick to a Sunday after 6 when it's free and quiet. Overall, worth a visit as a social gathering. Not suitable for kids due to pricing and limited menu options for children under 12.
R. G.
In my humble opinion, the best curry house in the best curry city in the World
M. N.
Just been to the restaurant in Newhall Street, really amazing food and the service from the staff is second to none. Very enjoyable evening.
s. s.
Better than average food and service. drinks are nice.
J. P.
Simply amazing, the quality and flavours of the food were out of this world. The lamb was extremely well cooked, almost melted! Butter chicken curry was incredible aswell. Service was a bit slow, but it was extremely busy when we went
B. K.
I have eaten here before and service has always been great. However i dined here last week and was informed the table was only available for 1.5 hours. The moment we sat down the waiters came over and kept insisting we order starters straight away. We hadn't even decided what we wanted to eat at this stage. Then they kept saying we had to order main as everything was taking a long time to make. However the starters came out within 5 mins and so did the mains. I was still eating the poppadoms with my starters when one waiter decided to clear the table as soon as my husband had cleared his plate. We couldn't eat the mains as we were still full from the starters so had to pack and take home. I didn't enjoy the experience last week at all as felt so rushed. I was looking forward to the meal especially as it was my anniversary but felt really let down by the service received.
J. S.
Beautiful restaurant. Wonderful food and fantastic service.
M. A.
Top tasting food!! Great little place for Indian food, Thalis were a great feast, also for the eyes, presented well
K. B.
Lovely stuff, superb service and excellent food and beautiful ambience
N. N.
Genuine, authentic Indian food
P. W.
The food was nice and tasty but came bit cold
C.
Prawn curry was absolutely amazing, cannot fault it. Full of flavour and prawns cooked perfectly
C. S.
Came here as part of our works Christmas party, and was very impressed. Lovely place, large seating areas for pre-drinks, and the downstairs dining area was spacious. The food, whilst being a tad too spicy for my palate, was really beautiful and well flavoured. Staff were friendly, toilets were modern and clean too. Would definitely revisit.

Possibly the best Indian restaurant I've been to, very impressed... All dishes have a great unique taste. 5 stars.
A. I.
Great tasting food, it's a shame we were seated in the ground floor restaurant, it was a bit like a canteen environment and incredibly noisy, please try Itihaas, just ask to be seated upstairs in the main restaurant
M. T.
Best curry I have ever had, it was outstanding!
Very swish restaurant with a lovely vibe, but we went with our two children as we were staying locally and they were made to feel very welcome too. They made a special mild curry just for the children :) Will definitely be back if we go back to Birmingham!
A.
Beautiful decor and very cosy. Went for Valentines. Let down by poor service on the day and food was not of the quality I would expect. So we had a reservation. On entering we literally stood around for 10 minutes.. No one bothered to greet or take us to the waiting area. Having got annoyed I approached the staff at the bar who were nice enough to then take care of us.. But that should not have been necessary. I don't think it was any more busier than a normal friday night.. On to the food: the starter platter was excellent but we had to wait 45 minutes for this. Considering this was a set meal, which was being orderered by most customers, was unacceptable. The main courses on the other hand arrived quickly.. Unfortunately I have to say the quality of lamb and chicken dishes was of a low standard. I dont mind paying higher prices if the food merits it but I don't want to pay for sitting in a nice room. They both had a samey bland Gravy. I don't want to speculate any more than that. Most people seemed happy enough with it. The dessert was okay... When we asked for the bill, the server was nice enough to offer some Indian tea.. So he went away to get it and never came back. .. we waited. .. and nothing. Got fed up, paid and left.

I've visited a few Indian restaurants in Birmingham and would have to say that this is my favourite. Every dish I tried (shared a few different ones amongst ourselves) was lovely. The staff were extremely friendly and there was a nice atmosphere in the place. The downstairs area is ideal for large groups looking to dine out.

OmG i have never had such beautiful food - indian food so gorgeous we could not stop saying so!! Even the popodoms were special and the dips to die for. Service great and had a doggy bag as couldn't eat it all but was definitely not leaving it!! Quite expensive so would only go for a special occasion but wouldnt know it if i hadnt walked past from work. A must to go to in Birmingham. Absolutely fabulous.
I. M.
The food here is to die for and the place is amazing 5 stars from me
T. G.
One of the Best restaurants in Birmingham.
The food is always fresh and tastes really good, atmosphere is nice and relaxed.
The staff are very nice and friendly and helpful with all your needs.
Variety of foods, drinks and desserts.
Also has a lunch time menu which is decent.
M. K.
Very good traditional upmarket Indian food
Have been a few times here, excellent traditional upmarket Indian food with a great choice of dishes from the vast and unusual menu. The only thing that lets it down slightly is the service, it advertises itself as having an excellent service, but it’s just average, which is a shame because everything else is spot on.
The Décor is excellent, a lot of expense has been spent.
j. s.
Don' give reviews easy but felt this place needs a mention as its not on the main strip, but should be as the mutton chops and kebabs are the best i've had and i frequent plenty of restaurants. I have been here a few times and have tried a lot of the different things on the menu and not once have I been disappointed. I don't drink but my colleague was very impressed by the drinks as the other review said they have had some new staff and they made a great place even better. Professional and pleasant who offered to design my friend his own bespoke cocktail which he loved and hadn't had at any restaurant before so he will be coming back loved the personal touch great asset.
C. G.
Fantastic food and excellent service. Ordered 15 dishes and all tasted delicious. Definitely one of the best restaurant for Indian food
R. W.
We had such a lovely evening with amazing atmosphere, delicious food, absolutely 5* service from the Itihaas team. Overall an amazing evening.
P. L.
The restaurant's decor creates very relaxing atmosphere. The staff were very friendly, helpful and polite. So that part should earn 5 stars. Nonetheless, we weren't impressed with the food. The starters were nice but mains were disappointing. We were a party of 6 and each person ordered a different main but all of them tasted and looked almost the same. The chef must have cooked only one base sauce and then just throw in different type of meat as required. On top of that, the naan bread wasn't freshly made. It had the texture and taste of the naan bread bought at a supermarket and then microwaved. It's not the most expensive place, but also not the cheapest; unfortunately I don't think what we served was worth the price.
K. W.
The food and cocktails here are of excellent taste and quality. Have been here a couple of times and also had the pleasure of trying their food at two events at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens where they seem to be the official caterer. On the expensive side but it is worth it. Some delays with service especially at peak times of the year and with big groups.
P. G.
Excellent lunchtime meal. Fast and friendly service.
R. C.
We organised our lil ones 1st birthday party for 50 people in the restaurant. The food and service was excellent. All our guests loved it too. Restaurant manager Mo was very accommodating of our needs. He not only customised the menu for us but also made sure the guests were looked after nicely. All in all positive experience. Definitely recommend this place.
S. K.
Just had a lovely dinner at itihaas with my wife for our anniversary and the manager and all the staff went out there way for us.
I couldn’t sing there praises loud enough an amazing restaurant.
P. C.
Amazing food. Authentic flavour of New Delhi. So hospitable and great packaging as well. Love it. Definitely eating again

If you want a treat or want to spoil someone this is the place to go. From the ambience the surroundings food staff then this is the place to go, I really don't get the people who have give it less than five stars because me and my companions food was top notch both flavourful and presented with 5 star quality, I ordered food to take with me and I've only ever done that twice in 30 years of entertaining and dining out regularly. The waiter who I forget now but around 30 was attentive and explained dishes to my friend who wasn't sure of certain things in great detail and when they arrived he was spot on so have obvs been well informed and trained and always served with a smile. Just lovely.
The staff were pleasant knowledgeable and the waitress who makes the drinks ( Tia ) I was told was one of the most charming and experienced cocktail waitresses I have ever come across, I initially though she was something to do with the management as she came across in a wonderful manner and made us feel relaxed and took time to explain the vast array of great drinks and these were quite possibly the best mixed drinks we have had, you could taste every tiny detail and they reeked of quality i haven't had any in the same field in the Midlands she obvs knows her stuff
One of the men i was with explained when he had visited before as he does regularly his wife couldnt decide what cocktail to drink so she had offered to make her one of all the flavours she enjoyed and they were exquisite and bespoke and she ended up having 5 in total.
So all in all a great place with one of the finest whisky and fine drink selections i have come across and not overpriced. Just well priced as i think they could ask a lot more for the whole experience if it's slightly more thank your local than this is because this is def not your local and you come away thinking youve had a great night with good food good drinks and the owner has obvs spent a lot on his staff or training them.

This starter platter is enough for mains and starters. Very tasty.

Great food and excellent service, highly recommend!

Attended for a group meal when visiting Birmingham to attend a conference. Didn't get off to a great start. Booked a table for 4, called in advance to make them aware we were running 5 minutes late. Upon arrival, sat in a waiting area, and waited for 15 minutes, the staff forgot about us and decided to show us to a table for 2 !?!? After explain twice we had a reservation for 4s table was then swiftly prepared.
Now on to the food. The butter chicken was creamy and Rich and full of flavour. The lamb shank was very tender and cooked medium well, perfection.
The grilled chicken starters were inch thick in seasoning, spices and very moist. Although the biriyani isn't as good as my mum's, it was still impressive.
Would certainly like to return here next time I'm in Birmingham, however 4 starts only due to the poor communication upon arrival, particularly wheni had already reserved a table over 4 hours earlier!

Came here for a large family meal few weeks back. Very well looked after on the phone, when we arrived and the whole experience. Food was great as always and good portions. Parking was an issue outside, but we managed to find some spaces. Will return again soon - thanks!

We seem to have become regulars here. Reliably excellent food plus superb polite unobtrusive staff have lead this to be our restaurant of choice. I should also mention that any dish can be tailored to your requirements with regard to heat, making it suitable even for the most unadventurous of diners. 5 stars.
S. R.
In simple words.. "Awesome".
Very nice staff, especially Mr Saroj, he made our day. We came to stay for 2 nights in IBIS, so had 2 evening food from ithihaas. Superb ambience, Very tasty food. Platter was yummy and good. In short- (QUALITY & QUANTITY - "ITHIHAAS")
X. E.
The food is very nice.. Presentation is nice. Staff are friendly but need some traininf around cocktail knowledge. Waiters are front line to customers so they would need to know about cocktails too, not just the bartender. Cocktails selection was good but cheap mixtures used. No pazzaz. The decor is nice and ancient Indian style but there was an underlying bad smell which was covered up incense sticks. Me &my partner have a sharp nose so we noticed instantly. But on the whole, creative menu so nice to have to a night out, maybe not the place for cocktails or speedy service.
K. W.
I was greeted warmly upon arrival by several members of staff. The food was tasty and well prepared. The decor is smart and comfortable. Well worth a visit.
S. D.
Went here today for the first time with my family for my sisters birthday and the food was delicious. The lunch menu is great value for money. I had a streetfood thali and every dish on the thali was flavourful and the portion size was big.
The service was excellent and the decor and ambience of the place is beautiful 👌
M. J.
If you want fine dinning and don't mind a short wait whilst the ingredients of your meal is cooked freshly for you, then this is the restaurant for you, the food, service, and ambiance is of a very high standard.
I can only assume that the very bad reviews listed could be sour grapes from close competitors,
I have eaten here regularly with no complaints
If you want a meal in a hurry out of a microwave then I suggest you go else where,
Itihaas is my favourite Indian Restaurant in the City,
b. h.
love love love, Love tahia the great bar manager she greats you as you enter and is never miserable she makes the best drinks in town and the selection is huge and she treats you like shes got shares in the place which keeps me coming back again and again and again lol. Love It. Love the surroundings surrounded by cultural furniture and decor it really is a fine place to dine. Finally I love the food I've tried to go through most things on the menu and bar a curry that i asked for to be extra hot and i got what i asked for (mistake) I have enjoyed everything. It is fine dining so a little more expensive but the surroundings and staff and food drinks etc make this worth every extra buck.
H. S. S.
A couple of very good Indian restaurants in Birmingham, but Ithiaas has consistently served enjoyable food with good service.
P. C.
Yet another lovely evening with friends at Itihaas last night. Great restaurant, nice characterful interior and fabulous food as always. In all my visits the staff have been incredibly polite and courteous. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone, and have already done so.
A. C.
We visited Saturday night in a small group of three. Most of the food was nice, the cooking superior to the usual Indian restaurant. The gravy with our lobster panchpharan was delicious though personally I would have like a little more panchpharan. The lamb shank spices were perfectly balanced, but cooked a little too dry. Funnily enough, the palak paneer was my favourite of the night. The menu is expensive, but portions are huge and most starters and mains can be shared between two. The venue is better for group meals rather than a dinner date for two.
The staff did make a mistake with one of our orders and forgot our drinks, though they were quick to rectify the situation. Our waiters were nice and helpful, so perhaps they've taken the criticism regarding rude behaviour from other reviewers on board. Ask to be seated on the top floor - they have a basement which is nice enough, but had too much of a grotto feel for me.
M. H.
Wonderful, best meal I've had in ages!!
Z. H.
Been here a few times service has always been 10/10 from the moment you walk in.. drinks & starters were on point. I was disappointed with the mains, lamb curry was way to salty I let the waiter know who offered to change it to a butter chicken curry that also didn’t taste good..
A. A.
Loved the food. Brilliant atmosphere and decor. Portion sizes are good too. However extemely expensive for what you are served. Just because the owner has received a few awards does not warrant the price.
V. R.
Authentic Indian food and great ambience
-
Restaurant that serves food that has real Indian flavour. Located in the middle of office spaces in Birmingham and easy to find. Booking was simple, just sent an e-mail and confirmation received in less than 15 mins. Not sure about parking arrangements as I have not driven there. Can’t say much about the service as the restaurant wasn’t busy and had only two people serving. Having said that, they were attentive and watchful if customers need anything else.
Place is really great. Ambience is grand. Loved the décor and seating arrangement.
I had ordered Shahi thali and my wife ordered Street food thali. It was a set menu for lunch and I must say it was really interesting and well-designed menu. The items on the shahi thali and the flavours just took me back to India. Chicken, lamb, dal, raitha, rice, roti and rice kheer – this is what a typical north Indian thali has. The first bite I took, I was blown away. Highly recommend the street food thali as it has unique dishes. Whole thali may be a little too much for a light eaters. Mango and Ginger lassi was very flavourful.
Pricing for thalis is very decent.
Overall, I rate this place high.
L. p.
Very comfortable, trendy restaurant. Staff are very friendly but the menu is too small in the main course department and it's far too pricey.
We had a murgh makhani and a soya masalla, both of which were very good but the fact that you are paying around £15/£16 for a main and around £3.50 for a naan just takes the edge off.
Worth a try if you are feeling flush but not sure I will go again
R. N.
Fantastic food and great service.
J.
Had takeaway .
Promt service, lovely staff .
Great tasty food , plenty of it too .
Recommend the Rose Lassi .
P. M.
I have been to Itihaas several times and have been very impressed with it. The flavours are a cut above what you experience at a typical Indian restaurant (and I am fairly critical when it comes to Indian food). Do not go there expecting a cheap and cheerful curry house where you can have 10 pints and a vindaloo. This is Indian food on a higher level. Great place.
S. b.
Went there twice with my girlfriend. Absolutely lovely food especially mouth watering veggie sharing platter. Main course really nice as well and waiter service 10/10.
N. B.
Classy interior. Excellent host; entire team, working as a unit to deliver impeccable service. Just the right amount of attention, offer of help/advice on my first visit. Small but excellent bar with a friendly, non-intrusive barman. Gourmet freshly prepared mainly North Indian food; portions very good, not a huge a la carte menu but whats on offer is prepared with fresh ingredients, care and craft. You've got to love spicy food and you'll realise it's the real deal....
I had dal makhani, Punjabi khadi, lamb chop karahi called masala champay with bespoke garlic & chilli nan and a paratha....all excellent taste, texture & presentation. The dal was a trifle too creamy for my taste and the team understood exactly what I meant....
If this all sounds too good, it was and I'm not given to eulogise...and no I've not bought into the business or married into it. The only thing to consider is the bill. But then you'll consider the experience and won't have any remorse....
Go try it....it'll be good to hear your views.
P. G.
Upmarket Indian well above the average. Treat yourself - great selection of food, tasty, good portions, Indian decor throughout add to a nice atmosphere. Perhaps a bit on the expensive side of good value.
A. L.
I was looking for a good quality South Asian Restaurant on a Sunday evening. With many of the others closed Sunday, the fact I had been to Ashas many times, decide to try Itihaas.
I had read the previous reviews and there seemed an overwhelming opinion the service was awful, so I was a little nervous about what to expect.
I have to say, despite the restaurant being busy, the service was excellent. The staff were attentive all the way through. The food was also excellent, and like the other 'premium' curry restaurants in Brum was refreshing to try alternative dishes.
The restaurant was indeed busy, which was encouraging for a Sunday evening. Was also good to see a high proportion of Asians eating there - good sign!
I would definitely recommend Itihaas if you are looking for a good priced 'quality' curry in a quiet environment (I would recommend Asha's if you were looking for a more lively environment)!
M. E.
I had booked this venue a few months ago for my birthday and had since read one or 2 negative reviews it a lot of good ones but was still worried in case I didn't enjoy myself..but it was lovely beautiful surroundings a beautiful barmaid who as other review said made the most amazing amazing cocktails there were def in the same class as a fine wine or champagne bar..and to be this type of quality and expertise in a restaurant was very unusual...
The food was all delicious I had paneer and a samosa type thing with pomegranate kind of deconstructed I then had the fish which was the best I've had with a trio of puds and an Indian tea. It all came out looking like it should of been in a magazine. An amazing experience worth ever penny and I came away feeling id been treated special..5 stars
R.
Almost all good.
Good service.
Good portions.
Good menu not overloaded.
Prices a bit high.
f. c.
We had a lovely dinner. The waiters are really nice and caring. Good quality and prices. We'd love to go back
J. R.
Lovely ambience, friendly efficient service and our meals were wonderful. Highly recommend!
C. H.
Arrived and was kept waiting for table . Staff didn’t seem to be customer tentative. Shown to table , waited 20 minutes for drinks to come to the table . Starter was lovely but took 1 hour to arrive . Had to keep trying to get waiters attention to order another drink . The staff did not understand what was on the drinks list . Decided to cancel main meal after waiting 1hour 45 mins and leave to which the manager advised everybody’s meal is late . Would it not have been good customer service to advise customers and apologise for delay . Sorry but you really need to polish up your act I will not be recommending you to anybody .
N. F.
Lovely lamb shank in rum sauce, good wine selection. A little pricey. Unfortunately my meal was a little spoiled by a very loud drunk group disturbing the whole restaurant - was glad to be on my own as conversion would have been difficult.
S. p. s.
Very nice food and atmospehere..
F. S.
Go here quite frequently for our lunch meals (at left once a month). Can't beat the thali's: they are amazing!
Other lunchtime options like the low carb and burger/wrap options are also very very tasty with big portion sizes to boot.
Go at lunch, you won't be disappointed! Shahi Thali or Chicken Ceasar salad for the win!
A. J.
We went for a meal here and the service was excellent. As we ordered a Thali we some options on the thali was not preferred by my friends and they requested the manager to alter it and he did. Furthermore normally we have to pay extra if wanted more but, the manager was kind enough to offer complimentary dishes very pleased with the restaurant. Much better than Asha who offer one small bowl of curry and then charge ridiculous prices for sides or any extras, whereas Itihaas offers a variety for the same. Love the restaurant definitely recommend the Thali.
m. f.
Excellent Starters. Great service.
v. s.
Good restaurant, hygienic food. authentic Indian taste.
n. b.
The place is a very nice place. The only downfall was we was rushed when we was having our starters because the main was ready. Felt like we couldn't finish our popadoms cus the plates where taken away. Didn't really feel the atmosphere for a Friday although the waiter was friendly.
D. V.
Good selection of food. The cocktails are nice. Prices are typical for the area also a little on the high side. No private parking as it's all on meters outside.
S. R.
Make sure you go hungry, the portions are massive & everything is beautifully cooked. Much more special than your average Indian. Stylish surroundings, great service, and not stupid prices. Highly recommended!
D. C.
Indians are highly prefer this Restaurant as you get variety of Indian foods includes varieties of Biriyani. Although the prices of food are quite high, the quality and taste are awesome. You get a variety of liquors to order before your meal. 15 mins walk able distance from Bullring Shopping market.
R. P.
Indian food give or take there isn't much difference in the Indian food from one restraunt to the next .
What makes it an special experience is the service you get from the staff.
Itihaas is one of them place .The staff take pride and pleasure in serving you ..
Their uniform never get ruffled or dirty .I don't know how they do that move around like bellerina with grace and smile and nothing is too much trouble .The experience is Belletic
That's why I go there on special occasion and they have yet to fail me .l have got great photos of food and experience but the technology is preventing me from posting
If you haven't been there you don't know what you are missing .
A. R.
Have visited the place a number of times. The food is absolutely amazing, with my personal favourite being the daal makhani. The atmosphere of the restaurant is cosy and private and the service is fast and reliable. It's also a good family venue, as I've often seen couples with children.
T. A.
Food is beautifully served but to be honest, it's probably not best suited for asian people who like the design taste. I suppose it's your typical British Indian restaurant that caters for a more British palate.
P.
Excellent ambience combined with a good service. We really enjoyed our meal of veg Thalis!
s. w.
Rather expensive for the middle of the road quality of the food. They seem to have a new untrained recruit each time we've visited. Chilli paneer came to the table on a skillet but moderately warm.
A. S.
Awesome food and nice ambience.
D. T.
Has dinner there last night and it was delicious. Great service especially from Saroj who looked after us.
We will definitely be back.
J. K.
Nice restaurant and atmosphere but plates are initially hot but by the time the food arrives they are room temp ,and the food itself goes cold quickly, service is not prompt ,waiters dress sense is odd
O. M.
Good to visit once, quality and quantity is acceptable.

We visited Itihaas last week and were blown away by the food and the service, we had the sharing platter as a starter which we would highly recommend and the service was of an extremely high standard. Looking forward to visiting again.
M. A.
Really good food and service. Came all the way from Manchester and it was good
A. B.
My favourite place to dine in Brum, its always a real treat, plus my entire family really enjoy the food. its great traditional North Indian food, and the staff are always really polite.
A. P.
I went here for lunch and there was a very good value lunch menu available between 1200 and 1430.
The Lunch menu was a Thali consisting of 3-4 small dishes with rice, fresh naan bread and desert for £9-13pp. I had the standard Shahi Thali (£10) and the food was excellent especially the Lamb in the Rogan Josh which was very tender, although it definitely needed an extra Naan bread to finish the sauces. Donn't be put of by the small size of the thali dishes, there is just about the right amount on the plate to fill you up.
I'm looking forward to coming back and trying the evening menu,
A. K.
Absolutely lovely. Good selection of vegetarian options. Come here literally every week and standard had always been 100%. Probably the best Indian in Birmingham.
S. V.
Nice Ambience, nice food and quality of food seemed to be decent, I thought though good choice was slightly limited. Thoroughly following social distancing which was good
J. P.
The best lamb Rogan Josh and butter chicken I ever had! The lamb was do tender and delicious.
I. B.
Great food, the flavours are immense. The menus are different and it tells a story. Staff are attentive, punctual and professional. Highly recommended.

S. L.

I. B.
Excellent food, very friendly, portions are enormous.
A. S.
Amazing one of the best food ever had! Excellent customer customer service . Have to try strawberry and coconut lassi
S. F.
Overrated and Snooty.. the menu is refined but the food was not bad tasting or presented badly.. just didn't feel valued by staff and didn't understand the hype. Akhbars/Tipu Sultan is just as good but not as expensive
C. M.
Fabulous food, decor and service!
I highly recommend this gorgeous venue for families, friends and lovers!
Thank you for amazing evening!
E. J.
Just amazing food staff are fantastic
L. K.
One of the greats. Have routinely made masalas containing 25+ ingredients and 2 days prep. These are experts, and they are worth 150% of the price they charge. Stored permanently in my maps. =D>
S. K.
Great food and dining experience. Most recommended. All the best.
S. R.
I have just had the most surreal experience i have ever experienced at a nice upmarket restaurant the manager need to go back to customer service school he spoke to the customers as rudely as he did his staff..he ordered his staff about like dogs and we were getting impatient as we.d been waiting ages as they were quite busy so just wanted to know quite reasonably how long it would roughly be lots of us had been ther 55 mins and still waiting for drinks the waiter looked scared. The lady on the bar came and apologised for our wait asked if she could take our orders and try and speed things along and was very proffesional and said she's sort s all out immediately and make an extra effort to make sure we were all happy and the manager spoke to her like muck had it not been for her we would of all left refused to pay as he was diagusting and could single handidly bring a place down if he doesnt sort hisself out hopefully he was having an off day she even had the proffesinamism to apologise for him and explained hes not normally like this but I could tell she was mortified we tried to find after to tip her but she was either in hiding or had moved to a different section. I'VE GIVEN 3 STARS AND THAT WAS FOR THE BAR LADY AND FOOD I WOULD OF GIVEN 5 BUT TAKEN 2 OFF FOR THE MANAGER and felt ive been more than generous just felt it unfair o slate the place based on an obnoxious idiot but the directors might want to have a word cause it wont last long if he carries on like this they'll lose customers hand over FOOT.
Z. J.
Amazing food and absolutely fantastic service. Staff are well mannered and really friendly. Deffo reccomend

Excellent lunch option. Cannot fault with either the Veg. Thali or the Street Food Thali. And excellent value for money too. Sumptuous at its best!
S. S.
Free parking on the street after 6pm which is when the place opens. Feb 2019 there are roadworks so sat nav may not be accurate. Road I should have taken was closed but there are other routes to get there.
M. h.
We were a big group and lots of nice good but not Indian as I know it. Curry rice and nan from my local is better for me!
