Reviews of The Rectory

I finally find an amazing place to have a full meal with quality!
The food it was just amazing and the desert!!!!!!!! So, good that I dont even have the right word! Very well done!
The place was not full of people, what gaves you space and the time to relax, exactly what I like when I go out for a meal.
The staff was very friendly.
I truly recommend !

The classy Rectory pub is an establishment in St. Paul’s square. It has been serving quality craft beers to generations of customers. I’ve never had the pleasure of eating here. I’m happy to say, after my visit, I am chuffed with the experience.
It is 21st century, COVID sensitive culinary experience. The customer downloads an app, allowing them to choose food and pay for it. Once paid for on the app, all you have to do is patiently wait.
The food selection is humble, but a familiar pub affair with modern twists. The standout dish for me was the duck and pork sausage roll. It was a perfect combination of light puff pastry, meat and sauce. It looked beautiful too. Each dish was prepared to a high quality and tasted superb.
The serving staff were humble and helpful. The back yard, outdoor seating area is enclosed, stacked with garden brollies and out of the wind. Just bring a puffer jacket in case the British weather does something unusual.

Really nice place.
I just have a Guinness but most of the tables were booked for the dining.
Probably will give a shot next time in Birmingham

Main meal for Parkinson secret supper Sheppard pie with cabbage. This was very nice and the gave a good portion of food. Staff were helpful, friendly and my food was hot. People who had the the chicken dish was not happy as it was not cooked well enough, on occasion this dish was sent back twice.

A little disappointed... Having eaten here a couple of times before, we returned for my sister's birthday. Although we arrived early we were shown directly to our table - one of the snug booths inside. We had a hot toddy each - mine was a whisky and ginger wine which had an orange slice and cinnamon stick adding some extra flavour - lovely, and exactly what you need on a cold winter evening! However, as the evening went on we found the food, although delicious, wasn't very hot - the plates were cold too, which didn't help. The eating area itself was also pretty cold - luckily we had all brought scarves... The ladies loo was also less than inviting.
Maria was friendly and helpful when asked about the menu. A little disappointed that the service charge was included on the menu - I would have preferred to show our appreciation to Maria and apart from that, what would we have done if the service had been terrible?!
S. C.
Really nice staff, cosy place right next to the St Paul's Church. Went for an early diner on a Tuesday evening and ordered a veg meal (butternut, brie and beetroot pie with new potatoes and Mediterranean veg) and it was delicious! Came on a warm plate and was tasty and delicate. Also had a lovely organic ginger beer (non alcoholic). They don't use plastic straw but paper ones. Highly recommend this place!
S. D.
Stylish, good service and casual food done very well.
I really enjoyed the meal I had here, although the atmosphere was too loud when the bar was full. Felt like a Yates'.
Food wise, the Tuna tacos were spot on. Delicious and had a slightly sushi vibe. Beautifully balanced. Cheese burger was perfectly cooked and meaty but messy to eat. Good selection of wine too.
Overall, worth a visit. It lacks the intimate environment for a date, but certainly enjoyable.
Note, expect a 12% service charge added to your bill, we got that added on when just two of us dined.
P. L.
I have not been here before but I was surprised what a great place it is, the 18 club in the basement is a darts club with electronic scoring and would make a great night out.
J. C.
Went here for the first time last week as right by my work loved it in there great vibe
T. C.
Visited on a works trip. Very nicely done out place. Visited on a Tuesday so we were the only people there but would think its buzzing on a weekend
G. R.
Slight wine bar feel rather than pub, pint of Theakstons was memorable. Solid food offering served by professional staff, and mojito cocktails really good. Slipped straight down!
L. S.
Service a little slow but food and drinks are good. Truffle fries are a must order
D. P.
Tbh I was a bit drunk when I got here but the food was great, and the waiter who served us was very nice. I didn't catch her name, but very good service.
p. b.
Very smart bar with prices to match. The HPA I tried was okay, but my partner's £5 gin cocktail was very good. A little courtyard garden to enjoy the fresh air
N. D.
Really great place for a few beers and a laugh. Good selection of beer/cider etc and the food is top notch! Would definately recommend even if you do not play darts as there are a variety of dart games to play
K. W.
Great service, lovely staff and amazing food. Slight mix up with the food order but we were very pleased with the free bottle of wine to say sorry! Would highly recommend, thanks for a lovely evening.
D. M.
Excellent range and good value, cosy interior and friendly staff. Nothing not to like.
H. B.
Fantastic food and service, we turned up 10 minutes before they stopped serving food but they were happy to accommodate us and as a result we had a lovely time! Shout-out to the staff who were absolutely delightful!
R. H.
Great food, great service, expensive drinks and whilst a good variety of drink type there wasnt a great selection of or variety in drinks and drink prices.
A. W.
We had a great night in the basement Darts booth, relaxed fun and great staff. Tom was a great host and nothing was too much trouble. 180!
T.
The initial greeting was terrible. We were not welcomed in and just left waiting by the door with no acknowledgement. When we proceeded to the bar as the barman kept looking at us we were told to remain standing by the door. We waited by the door for a rialto of 8/10mins while waiting for waiter who was standing in front of us to finish their social conversation.
However, the waiter later redeemed themselves and was attentive, the menu was good, and the cocktails are THE BEST, especially the Cherry drop & Garden of Eden!!! Prices are reasonable too!
Food was a little cold when it came out but was recooked, and the drinks were mixed, but these were rectified on the bill. Service seems to be compromised by the new COVID 10pm curfew, which is why I would definitely return to support them!
M.
Great service, good selection of alcohol and the food we had was excellent!
E. H.
Lovely little find today. Food menu was minimal so you made your mind up straight away good selection of roasts and vegetarian options. Served warm and by two lovely team members. The guest larger was also very nice & at a fiver a pint reasonably priced. Thank you for a wonderful Sunday lunch.
M.
Took my father and friend out for a treat as he came to visit. Very limited menu on a Sunday. I thought the Roast options were a little bit pricey - £17.50 seems a little excessive for Roast Beef. The Burger was tasty, and Haddock was alright. Service wasn't anything special so wasn't impressed with the mandantory 12.5% service charge. I would of tipped anyway, it's more the principle. Decor is great though and love the addition to help yourself to water.
C. K.
This bar was really a lovely place to go for some drinks and food. My first visit with some friends and if was a delight. Staff were friendly, helpful and good at suggesting drinks I might like. I had food there to and it war really nice. Gets very busy layer in the evening but is well worth a visit with plenty of rustic good and amazing cocktails. Only reason 4 stars is price, most cocktails are around 8 to 10 pubs and food is also pricey. But you get quality. I'm tempted to put 5 stars if I go again and have the same good experience. Will update after my next visit.
C. S.
Great service. Explained everything clearly in a really friendly manner.
P. M.
Love this place but boy does it get busy. Never ate here but been on a number of occasions for pre-meal drinks. Venue is very nice with super clean facilities (washrooms) and drink menu is pretty impressive. Only giving 4 stars as it can sometimes take a while to get serviced as it's incredibly busy and if someone orders cocktails you know your in for a wait. Recommend a visit but perhaps avoid the busy periods, if you are super impatient like me.
C. A.
Great service and food, we had the wild boar burger!
A. D.
Visited on a weekday evening. Good enough bar. Very reasonable drinks. Didn’t have any food. Could do with a bit of a spruce and definitely an improvement to the odour of the place.
M. B.
Good honest food in a trendy place.
I. K.
2nd visit to The Rectory after 2 years away. Bar staff much more polite and welcoming however now the bar closes at 11PM on a Bank Holiday Saturday evening. In the middle of an economy where venues have been saying they want to remain open and when asking the staff they said they want to but told they have to close. Bizarre!!
Harsh bar staff and not the warmest welcome. Early closing at midnight considering it was a summer Saturday night.
J. B.
In a picturesque location - a great bar with a lovely relaxed atmosphere, and a superb restaurant - the food is always delicious. Service is always spot on and they do really want to make the customers feel special. We had our joint birthday party in the function room downstairs and I have to say everything was perfect!! Try the cocktails too - they are always good and not bad value either.
J. D.
Stopped here for little drink before we went home. Took a long time for someone to take our orders we were told to sit down and someone would come over. When they did they said we closing shortly so we could only have one.
Tables weren't clean
T. J.
A modern restaurant set in an old building works well, but the food has got to be a good deal better to demand the prices and a higher star rating.
We had lunch bites and a wrap none of which was described as received, the hummus apparently had tomato, avocado and potato in it which would explain why it hardly tasted like hummus, the chicken wrap was served bare on a white plate despite mixed leaf being mentioned and there were no cherry tomatoes with the halloumi soldiers. It was quiet for a Friday lunchtime, the service was very good.
D. W.
Wow the chef deserves so much credit for the truncated menu of fresh and subtle dishes to excite the palate. Prices a touch skywards since the refurb and not major keen on the "hey it's not obligatory " service charge, but £95 for 3 courses and a respectable bottle of wine I think is about the mark for the ever improving second city.
S. K.
Club 180 is good fun, and with electronic scoring 😊
C. C.
Nice vibe at The Rectory, good drinks, food and service.
M. S.
Relaxed, chilled bar right in the middle of St. Paul's Square, Jewellery Quarter. Good place to start a night, or indeed park yourself for a few jars of an evening. Bearing in mind the location, pretty decent price wise, too. Change from a tenner for two pints... almost unheard of in Brum town centre!
S. A.
Good service, decent drinks and cocktails with good choices of light bites.
J. T.
A fantastic place to both eat and drink. The bar is lively and the staff are excellent. Service is attentive and friendly all the time. The food is equally good - the burgers are the best I've ever had anywhere and the menu caters for all tastes.
l. w.
In a quiet spot near the church, the bar is warm and welcoming with a range of beers including Leffe on tap.
The food is good too with a nice range of pub grub and less traditional dishes that includes a small Tapas range, burgers, chicken en croute, steaks and liver & bacon: mains generally cost £10-15.
A few special offers through the week and a reasonable selection of wines make it well worth a visit: recommended.
Friendly staff, but only on-street parking
B. T.
The food is excellent. Service staff were extremely attentive and there is a great choice of alcoholic beverages and cocktails. The decor is tastefully done. Will definitely come again.
J. J.
As usual delicious food. Today though I was feeling unwell and a member of staff made me a hot lemon drink without me even asking. Now that's paying close attention to the needs of your customers.
Excellent!
L. G.
Tasty food and well presented. Good service too. The room we were sat in downstairs was a little dark and lacking in atmosphere, but other than that a good meal.
E. C.
Delicious food but very overpriced for the portion size. We were also waiting a long time for our order to be taken and food to be brought to us. Felt the like 12% service charge was unexpected and not worth the service we received.
S. M.
A quirky warm feeling bar just off St Paul's square. Intimate lighting for a meal or cosy drinks. Plays music on a Friday/Saturday night so has a social atmosphere; ideal for pre-drinking a meal at one of the fantastic local restaurants or a night at the Actress and Bishop. There are a few outside benches at the side of the restaurant/bar ideal for a summer drink.
S. W.
Not recommended for an evening meal soley as it is so loud. Unfortunatley I had a headache on arrival so the volume was a little much.
Aside from that. Positives are really great attentive staff and delicious food.
T. E.
Lovely meal: Butternut Squash soup, Christmas Turkey dinner and Christmas pud, good value. Bit noisy because it was very busy but good night out with work colleagues.
E. M.
The menu and service were above my expectations. We really enjoyed the vibes of this spot. Amazing spot to take my family out for lunch.
k. o.
Beautiful sophisticated atmosphere, music not played too load. I attended a function in there Awesome underground function room. As a result of the beautiful appearance it set the scene and added a more VIP feel to the VIP travel community I learned about. Staff are nice also. #YSBH #GladISaidYes
C. B.
Really nice lunch time experience. It was a shame for the staff that is is so quiet but the food and service was 1st class
B. H.
We had a very nice pint in the Rectory, friendly staff, not crowded
P. P.
Very loud as at christmas party . £30 for 3 courses . Food wasnt special for that price
But expect that's what you have to pay . It was well cooked and presented standard Christmas dinner
l. m.
Great bar lovely atmosphere fab decor rustic but modern staff ok, not a great selection of lagers but a good selection of gin. Would go back
E. S.
Good food and drink, but was a cold evening and a chilly draft was coming through the whole place. Had to keep coats on! Would recommend otherwise
A. K.
Trendy bar in a great location. Prices are a little on the expensive side but keeps a good clientele coming through the doors. Food looked good and prices were in line with the type of bar and location.
D. D.
Lovely place, nice little bar area, I've heard the food is pretty fabulous too but yet to try it myself, its more restaurant than bar
S. B.
A great meal, staff were accomodating and hurried our order through as we had tickets for a concert after. Reasonable prices for the quality of food.
N. K.
Bottomless brunch was a lovely treat. We ordered salmon off the menu and had a blast. Thanks!

B. K.

S. B.
Nice and quiet had a lovely afternoon. Staff nice friendly.
J. H.
Very nice bar, though not the best lager selection. Not sure they need Stella on draught, Stella 4 on draught, and Stella in bottles, and very few other lagers.
R. R.
Nice atmosphere but not my place to be particularly, it's a bit expensive and the decorations are all pseudo and not genuine items.
L. e. L.
