Reviews of The Trellis Restaurant and Tea Rooms
B. C.
Very welcoming and traditional place to go for an afternoon tea. Having the fire place to sit by on a cold Spring day was really nice, and the outside seating looked like it would be perfect for those warm summer days.
Service was great and the scones and tea were nice too. I had never considered having it with lemon curd before but now I have tried it, it's a game changer!
Was great that we could also bring our dog in, who enjoyed laying by the fire!

The place feels like and has a distinct vibe of a family run business. I had a wonderful jacket potato there. The service was really welcoming and friendly. All the facilities are present, too. Would love to come back one day.

Great lunch. Took the family . Great cheese toasties and scones by the open fire.

Excellent place to have lunch sat outside surrounded by colourful hanging baskets. We had toasties and a cream tea and we all liked it especially the very light scones that we came back the next day.

A very quirky cafe style. Not fastest service but did not matter as food lovely and the owner server lovely. A little gem with very interesting collectables, Enjoy

We had a lovely walk from saltdean to rottingdean along the under cliffs on one of the hottest days in July 2022......found this tea room "the trellis"..... ordered the ploughman's lunch which you can order a beer with...... I can really recommend this on a hot day..... Good service, nothing to much trouble... Sat outside with the umbrella up.....good food..... nice cold beer...... Great little place.....then walked on to "kipplins" garden in rottingdean..... round to the pond...... then a very very slow walk back to saltdean........ Will go back to the trellis again...... a great little destination place 👍😎😍

I don't usually review places I visit but on this occasion I felt that I had to. Me and my wife had lunch here and we are both so happy with the food. The leak and potato soup was awesome - was made into cream of leak and potato. They even popped the fire on for us when we got in to take the chill off a little bit. Highly recommended.

Classic cream teas abd home made cakes in lovely village of Rottingdean. Also selection of sandwiches, roasts, so a nice place to refresh

It's my second visit, my friends and I loved it! Amazing service and food. Affordable prices.. Cozy place run by a family. Decor is great, it feels like home... The lady served us even though they were closing soon.. Super friendly environment

Payed a visit for some lunch and ordered a Cheese and Bacon Toasty from the menu, served by a nice friendly young waitress who was very polite. It tasted great and I washed it down with a pot of English Tea. They serve afternoon tea served with scones and tea for just five pounds and they looked very nice too, I will definitely go back there

good service and very delicious cakes

On a cold, wet December Sunday lunchtime, when everywhere was closed, the Trellis did a wonderful takeaway of fish and chips and vegan chilli. Very grateful and all was delicious.
Thank you

I've been going to the Trellis since I was a child and it holds such wonderful memories. Don't go there expecting modern fancy decor but do expect lovely home cooked food and cakes with a really friendly feel - like sitting in your nans living room for traditional English tea.

I have been here twice since moving to Saltdean a few months ago. Each time the staff were welcoming and friendly and the food was wonderful. Lovely home cooked food.

Beautifully adorable, quintessentially British tea room with very kindly staff and great tasting scones!

Great food and setting with a good old fashioned service

Lovely traditional tea room. Please support them, they have lovely food, beautiful cakes, outdoor seating. But someone allowed Costa to open next door and is affecting their business. Support them so they don't go away. Just bring cash, or get it out of the cash machine at Tesco around the corner, as they don't take cards

A lovely old building (c.1680) in need of some TLC. Staff friendly and prompt, nice cakes and light snacks on offer at reasonable prices. I felt that two scones would have been more generous in a £4.75 cream tea, but no complaints.

Popped in here after a long walk along the seafront and had a delicious cream tea. Quaint little place. Would be lovely in the depth of winter with the log fires burning, will definitely try the roast dinner in the future as it looked fabulous.
Noted that 3 of the negative reviews look like they are from the same person ......

Two for a light lunch and freshly cooked with tea and a fruit tea. Hot, quality fillings and fresh salad accompaniment. Delicious, excellent service. Definitely quirky. Roaring fire to keep you warm.

Quirky little restaurant tucked away, great cakes all homemade. Also do alcoholic beverages very reasonably priced. Great cream teas. Park at White horse 1.50 for 2 hours.

My nan actually owns The Trellis. The food there is amazing. Every day after college/school since I was in primary school I'd come down to the café, say hi to my nan and have an amazing jacket potato with beans and melted cheese. Me and my nan used to make jam tarts together in the kitchen. It was a highlight of my childhood that I will never ever forget. I loved spending time at The Trellis with me family. It was amazing.

I am a regular customer of The Trellis and feel outraged by the malicious, negative comments some people have made. The food is home-made and of very high quality, the service is friendly and impeccable, the prices most reasonable. Take no notice of the whingers and you will not be disappointed.

I thought we’d try this little gem in my local village after a long walk. If you want school dinners and comfort food this is the place. Love it. Left feeling satisfied x

A very nice little cafe, with great attention to detail.
We drank coffee and ate sandwiches, which were delicious. Everywhere there are small decorative things, plus the cozy fireplace room with the nice owner... was a good end to our trip :)
