Myself and my wife travel alot, we usually tend to try the local Indian restaurants wherever we go. This one is definitely up there with the greats, we were welcomed with a smile, the service was fantastic. Its reasonably priced which is always good to see and of course the food was faultless, great portion size and tasted amazing. Next time we are down this way we are returning 100%

Nice restaurant and friendly service. Unfortunately the Menu is a letdown. It's hard to understand unless you have done your research beforehand.
Food is yummy and a bit spicy for my taste.

It was a real delight to find this tiny place after a regular haunt turned out to be closed.
Not an average Indian restaurant by any means but with a pretty unique menu and outstanding food.
The staff were amazingly friendly and gave us an expert walk through the dishes - don't miss the dosas.
Can't wait to get home to try the sister restaurant in Reading

Very tasty food, full of flavour, well presented. Despite being very busy, both the waiter and the waitress provided an excellent service and they were very friendly too. I will definitely be back.

We arrived late at the restaurant but the owner and staff were really accommodating and friendly. They recommended fantastic meal options and tailored the amount of spice for us. The cocktails were cheap and very tasty!

Food was tasting so good.
Please call and reserve your seat before going...
Thank You Ashwanth & Gopinath for serving us with Authentic, Nice & Tasty South Indian food

Thank you Gopi and Sukriti for a great evening. The dosas were delicious and the Margerita was made to perfection. If you love south indian and are in Brighton this is the place to be! Super hosts and super authentic menu. Dont miss it!

Authentic tamil food, all recipes that I have ordered were simple yummy, CSK dosa was the top one for me , if you are looking for 🔥 food, staff were very polite and engaged , a complete day for us after some 🌞 in beech, it felt like back home! , a gem 💎 in the sea side town!

Really good South Indian cuisine, especially the thosas. It was a little on the hot side for me - I must have been visibly struggling as the waiter offered me some water - but my husband didn't struggle with his madras. When we were there most groups had at least one person who looked like they might have Indian descent, which is always a good sign that you're getting real flavours. Loos were not fancy but perfectly clean and serviceable.

Some of the most authentic Indian food I've ever had outside India. Top notch!

Great place, smal causey and serves authentic South Indian food. Ower is very friendly and around. Highly recomend, one strange thing though, front doors opens strangely.

Excellent, good value local eatery. We had a slow cooked mutton curry, which was soft and clearly had a well made, long simmered, sauce. Interesting sweet and sour cauliflower "Manchurian". Lovely friendly staff, even though a tad flustered on our visit. Recommended.

BEST CURRY EVER. Reasonably priced for excellent premium quality curry. Friendly staff. The menu does have dishes you wouldn't necessarily be familiar with but staff happy to explain. I live in Bristol but would go back to Brighton just for this curry. My boyfriend had one of the star dishes (puffed up bread thing with curry dish - I don't remember the name of it) - see photo.

What a suprise. A place for desi Asians to go for desi Indian food. Loved the menu, food (be warned this authentic Indian food and will be too spicy for some) really lovely (and funny) staff. Will be coming back over and over again. Plus the margaritas are 3 quid!!! And they are GOOD

Dear Vel management, we are eagerly waiting for your restaurant to re-open and do consider posting updates for the same.

This place is awesome. The most authentic and best South Indian food we have had since we were last in southern India. Absolutely loved it. Well done guys delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes too.

Simply wow.. food is amazing😍😍. So many Indian varieties. Best go for both veg & non-veg. This place is pleasant & not crowded. Good for a satisfying meal with friends and family.
If you are South Indian looking to find your hometown taste. Just drop in. You will love it. 🤤
I personally loved appetisers combo, CSK dosa & veg kothu parotta.. 🤪
I wonder why I didn't know this place before. Don't miss it. A must visit, if you are in brigton.

Amazing food, lovely staff. I highly recommend going here. There were delicious cocktails as well. They had great vegan options, however we would love to see some vegan dal on the menu. We honestly had the best evening here.

Such delicious dosas and mutton curry! Been searching for a decent south Indian place since moving from London. Very decent prices everything so tasty and great portions. Definitely a new local for us in Kemptown. Staff so friendly too.

We had been to Vel on Friday evening. The order took too long than expected as the delivery orders were coming in large amount that they couldn't manage to give the sit in orders on time. However, when the food came it just brought a smile on my face and I forgot all the delay as everything was so delicious as always. They even offered us a complimentary Desert at the end. Thanks to Vel for opening an authentic South Indian restaurant in Brighton.

Great authentic South Indian (Tamil) food. The staff were very friendly and welcoming with excellent service! Will definitely return!

I visited this place back to back for lunch and dinner during my two day visit to Brighton before lockdown. This is one of the best Indian restaurants I have been in the UK.
The South Indian preparation was amazingly delicious (second to none). Restaurant cosy with great ambience and good service. The manager was very polite, respectful and friendly.
I liked the food so much that I ended up asking if they have restaurants in any other cities, or of they would be moving to a more central place in the city.
Must visit if you are around Brighton, for groups of 10+ I would advise to book in advance unless the restaurant has expanded to accommodate more.

Amazing food and friendly staff with good service. If any Indian or Asian reading this review and wants to have Indian food in Brighton, I highly recommend this restaurant 10/10.

Delicious food, each dish was a delight. My first taste of South Indian cuisine, I couldn't have asked for a better introduction. I highly recommend for quality, value and excellent service.

Ordered thorough Deliveroo. Food was really nice. Dispatch was made almost 50 minutes post placing the order. That's a bit too much. But Dosas and the chutneys were really nice.
J. S.
What a wonderful discovery. Authentic south Indian food in Brighton. We had idlis, vadas, oothapum and rasam. The sambar and chutney was delicious and the idlis and vada were fresh and tasty. I thoroughly recommend Vel for the food and the great service.

A soul satisfying experience!
Hats off to Gopinath for his warm hospitality and his hardworking staff!
The South Indian cuisine took us back to the streets of Tamil Nadu, South India.
Chicken Dosa and Upma were my favorites. The coconut chutneys were really fresh and Sambar was lip smacking. We made sure that nothing went back to the kitchen. 😊💕
All this garnished with melodious Tamil Music.
A big big Nanri (thank you) to the chef.

Tried out this little restaurant yesterday, and will be coming back for sure - staff all very kind and patient as we were not all too familiar with dishes, but food was very good and extremeley good value !

We went to this restaurant with our family. We are vegetarian and had many choice and kids food is good too. Food was tasty. Would highly recommend.

This restaurant fills a major gap in the Brighton culinary scene. I discovered it only a few weeks ago and I have already been there about four times. They offer a wide range of Indian dishes but I have opted for the South Indian options almost every time. Thanks to the excellent Tamil chefs, I have not been disappointed. Delicious authentic South Indian fare at very reasonable prices. The one time I opted for a North Indian dish was when I ordered a Chola Bhatura - the puffed up deep fried bread with a tangy spicy chick pea curry. Which was excellent too. I have only been here at lunch time - it is quiet and pleasant. The host Gopinath and his friend who steps in occasionally are friendly and polite. Top marks from me.

Nice little restaurant serving lip smacking authentic south Indian food. Hidden gem, rare find tbh.. Totally loved it, food and hospitality top notch.🙂

Wow, so so tasty! The food here is amazing and particularly the Aloo palak but in fact everything! Great, friendly staff too and you get a free drink! Highly recommended

We had a lovely meal here. Menu rather complicated but when we got our heads round it ( sort of - it’s too complicated) what we had was expertly cooked. The lighting could be better inside- lower, so more cosy. Candle light is flattering - strip lights are not! Anyway, we came back and it was just as good. A superb addition to the local area.
B. C.
Legitimately can't believe how great the food was. The menu is large, and I was unfamiliar with a lot of it, so I went with the owners recommendation and I would suggest others do too! Friendly service, small # of people seated in-restaurant, and the toilets were very clean and newly decorated.

Amazing hospitality and authentic DELICIOUS INDIAN FOOD made to order. Been searching for a good indian restaurant and finally found ONE.

Indian Chole Bhature. Very good place to have Indian food.

I’ve just eaten a Thosa ( Dosa) with spiced potato as a take out. Definitely the best Thosai I’ve eaten in the U.K. Authentically South Indian, lovely spices and flavours. Looking forward to trying more of the menu. Highly recommend this restaurant if you enjoy real South Indian food.

Yummmmm.. If you want some authentic dosas, you have to try this place. Very close to what you will get in India. The prices are also decent for UK standards. The other great dish is the Channa Bhatura.
The staff are also amazing. They are always there to recommend or help you with the menu.
I always go for the Mysore masala dosa but other dosas are also GREAT! Last night in Brighton and we are heading over to VEL for dinner!

Excellent Tamil style foods, enjoyed my native food after a year..## Highly appreciated service..
#i would never go back to east Midlands without going back to Vel restaurant...😋🥳🥳

We’ve had takeaway from Vel three times so far and have been impressed. Lovely dhosas and other dishes packed with flavour. The sambal and the daal both delicious. This is very far from being a bog standard curry house. Very pleased to have this excellent place in our neighbourhood to add to the likes of Woodbox and the Ginger Dog.
J.
We ordered a takeaway. We found the menu online rather convoluted to navigate around.
Once ordered we were given a time to collect and the food was ready at the allotted time.
The food: Average. The dishes we ordered we found to be far too spicy despite being listed as "mild"with the exception of the Palak paneer which was mild. However ,the Palak paneer was really only paneer in a vaguely creamy sauce. Anyone who is familiar with this dish would know that it is fundamentally spinach with paneer which this particular offering did not provide unfortunately.
The veg curry only had peas and sweetcorn in a tomato base - for a "veg" curry?
The boiled and tamarind rice was good.
We won't be ordering from this establishment again as we all felt better food could be got elsewhere.
k. p.
Food was good. But not worth the price. Quiet expensive. A normal lemonade 3x the price and less quantity.. some of the foods which are better in London and averagely priced. Not as expensive as this...
D. B.
I eat here regually and love it! Great service, the chicken curry is lovely and the roti's are the best!

Fantabulous!!! AUTHENTIC South Indian food. Good hospitality. A real gem 💎 for Brighton! Highly recommend.

Staff were efficient and very helpful. Food excellent. Will go again. One problem: entrance needs to be modified as some customers did not shut door properly, therefore a draught
However waiter was on the case very quickly.
