Amazing! The staff today were super friendly, venue is so cool, the food was incredible and the prices were fantastic. Definitely worth booking a table in advance for the Sunday roast because it's easily the best place around. Can't wait to go back in a few weeks!

Wow and wow... just finished my dinner at the Lockup in St George BS5 and I am simply blown away by the quality of the food. It was just amazing. The best part of the evening was the lovely, helpful and friendly staff who made the evening for us. Highly recommend and a must for anyone who likes quality and good customer service. Easy to get to.... No. 42, 43, 44, 45 from the centre of Bristol just 15mins.

From the time we walked in, we were received with a smile, the outside seating had heating on so was really cosy for us. The food was something else, definitely the biggest roast I've had and I've had a few, they're was alot of variety and the food in general was delicious to say the least. They're is free parking which is easily accessible. I would recommend a visit when you can. We'll be definitely coming back

Quite simply the best Sunday lunch - plenty of meat, fantastic roast potatoes and lashing of vegetables and gravy, with a great wine list to wash it all down. Bristol has a fantastic food scene with heaps of amazing restaurants, bars and cafes. One that I can highly recommend is The Lock Up in Redfield. Serving modern British food, it's a gem of a place. My partner and I dined here last Saturday evening and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the experience. From the cocktails to the food, to the service, everything was just perfect. We both went for the chargrilled beef sirloin, which looked stunning and was delicious and surprisingly filling. Aside from the creative menu and scrumptious food, what sets The Lock Up apart from other places is the people who work there. The staff are welcoming, attentive and friendly. In fact, our lovely server (sorry, we didn't get her name, we were on Table 26!) made our visit all the more special. The service we received was exceptional. Thank you. If you like fine dining but in a casual, relaxed setting, a visit to The Lock Up is highly recommended.

Great quality food well priced in family run restaurant. Had lunch with 6 plates of tapas, dessert each, one coffee and one cocktail/soft drink for just over £30/head. Used to come here regularly pre pandemic and before we had 2 kids, but just came back for tapas lunch and dessert. All excellent. Particularly the mackerel, heritage tomatoes, the crushed white bean and roasted garlic dip with toasted focaccia, and the oil dip with the toasted sourdough and olives. Vanilla panna cotta with blackcurrant sorbet and chocolate torte with slated caramel ice cream were both excellent too. Friendly and speedy service in a nice setting given location next to busy road in old small garage.

This has been one of my favourite dining experiences recently. Went with not many expectations as I know the area quite well, but it pleasantly surprised me. The food was excellent and at a great price, and the staff were courteous, informative and good fun to talk to. Would definitely recommend, and just off the main road in st George. ☺️

We went here for a Sunday roast (pork belly for me and butternut squash nut roast for the missus) and it was absolutely fantastic! Every component was outstanding on its own - roast potatoes, carrots, pickled cabbage, gravy, etc. Pro tip - you don't need extra roasties, the portions are enormous! Some of the most underrated food in Bristol. Have always had a good experience here with a changing menu it's great to comeback for something new. A 'regular' on my menu is the wrapped pork tenderloin with braised pig cheek crackling and pineapple is probably one of my favourite meals I've ever had in Bristol. Beautiful pink tenderloin with the richness of the braised pig cheek and cut with the sharp sweet grilled pineapple is always going to be a favourite. Service has always been good each time we've been with friendly attentive waiters. One thing I'd note is sitting on the terrace can get quite loud (not a problem for me, but not ideal for everyone) if busy as it's often a younger crowd and you also have street noise. For a bit of a quieter meal I'd suggest ask to be seated inside either upstairs or downstairs. Either way there is a lively atmosphere of people enjoying great drinks and food.

The best roast I've ever had in my life. Already looking to book our next trip. Every element was perfect, the meat was juicy, the potatoes crispy and even the veg was flavourful and added to the dish as a whole. I'm actually obsessed. The attention to detail is crazy! Even the cocktail was so fresh and the ginger beer was fancier than your usual. To top it off we shared a brownie with salted caramel ice-cream (amazing) and we left saying we wished we could go back in time one hour to do it all again! Thank you all at the Lockup, hope to see you all again soon!

A real hidden gem. A two story restaurant with great food in great surroundings. We were upstairs watching the chefs preparing the food. The menu was great, and we were spoilt for choice in terms of selection. The food is definitely a step above the typical small restaurant. Portions are not too big, and leaving room for the dessert, is well worth it.

We came as a group and arrived a little late but the staff were completely friendly and understanding. The mussels with cider and leeks were completely beautiful. The surf and turf had a perfectly cooked steak, sweet shrimp and both were smothered in an absolutely delicious butter, and the salad was fantastic to match. The cheeseboard to finish was the perfect size after such a large meal, and was of course delicious. I would highly recommend this place to anybody.

I had dinner here last night with some friends and we were all very impressed! The service was excellent, the food delicious and beautifully presented, and they even made me a special vegan desert. We were sitting outside but warm thanks to a heater and all the staff were wearing masks which made us all feel safe. Lovely experience on the whole, definitely recommended

What a great experience, no hesitation in giving a 5 star review. And here's why. Ok, it was father's day and my daughter suggested this place after visiting with the boyfriend. We started with a special drink of the day, a raspberry smash, plenty of rum and a raspberry compote type of mixture. A local ipa beer accompanied the duck starter that was shared, which did taste more of chicken than duck! Very well presented tho. The main, as it was a Sunday, was a roast, beef was my choice. A couple of nice thick slices of rare beef, the beef shin rague was exceptional. With a big portion of kale and parsnip, and a smooth mash in a rich gravey. The individual Yorkshire pudding was huge to boot and very tasty. I will be recommending this establishment to all. Hope to be back soon.

The food here was quite frankly amazing. Korean Fried Cauliflower was one of the most delicious things I have tasted at a restaurant. We have been strong advocates of this restaurant for many years since they opened. But they need to look at their portions and some of the meat cooking. Now charging top end prices but not necessarily getting top end food. Tonight I had sweetbreads which I love if cooked properly, firstly it was a tiny sweetbread and not cooked well, in fact I couldn't eat it, very chewy. My lamb was also not great and quite fatty. I've already had this conversation before and was told they had changed their supplier, but still not great. The chowder I ordered for starter was very nice but not a chowder. It was a sauce to go with the 4! Mussels. Starter portions tiny. I love the lock up but they need to sort a few basic things out before I spend another £86 on a two course meal with wine for 2 people.

Been here a handful of times over the past couple of years. It's the sort of place you can impress your in laws with as it never fails to impress. Consistently good food and excellent value. The steak I had tonight was perfect and you'd easily pay £10 more for the same in the centre. My friend had the lamb and that was equally excellent. Great produce, sympathetically cooked, attentive staff and great value. What more would you want?

A first-time visitor last Sunday I was treated to a phenomenal vegan Sunday roast – arguably the best in Bristol – striking the perfect balance of refined and hearty. The butternut squash, courgette, cashew & almond loaf was super tasty, and the roasted veg and rosemary gravy combined perfectly to deliver a totally satisfying and delicious roast. The service was impeccable; we were served our food quickly by friendly, helpful and attentive staff. COVID precautions were followed to a tee and the overall vibe was relaxed, enjoyable and cosy. The whole experience was flawless and we'll definitely be returning – super happy to have added The Lock Up to the roast roster.

Many similarly priced places in Bristol now have free-range options. At the very least the eggs should be, so that free-range-egg eating vegetarians can enjoy the breakfast menu. Delicious, honest food and drink served by warm, welcoming staff within an original and cosey atmosphere. Perhaps foolishly me and my father attempted to chance a walk in for a Sunday roast along Church Road and upon being turned away numerous times; The Lock Up not only came to our rescue but exceeded every expectation. We were seated and served quickly and the roast, whilst on the higher side price wise was, it was generous and sublime, one of the best I have had in Bristol to date. I will most definitely be returning, however I will be sure to reserve a table next time as the masses will be sure to flock here in no time once word is out.

Went during COVID and had all good processes in place with well distanced tables, hand sanitiser everywhere and we asked for a terrace table. Put simply, this is the best roast I have ever had, I went for a ham hock terrine starter which was simple but beautifully done. Then the main event, slow roasted lamb shoulder with a lamb neck bonbon on the side with all other usual trimmings. The yorky was fresh and well risen, the potatoes were crisp but flavoursome on the outside, the veg was all so fresh it was perfect, and the gravy was outstanding, well seasoned, well reduced and not watery like it can be at bad restaurants. I have not had food on other days, I am sure it is also excellent, but this was impressive, worth travelling for if you get the chance!!!

I would like to say thank you for the courtesy we received last night. As a party of four one had a nut gallery and myself a coeliac. The waiter was very polite and got assurance from the chef what was safe for us to eat. A logistical nightmare for restaurants these days but has to be taken seriously. This restaurant is by far the best restaurant in the area. Also, one of the best we've visited in Bristol. The menu is varied with vegetarian, meat and seafood options. The combinations of flavours are great on all plates I've tried. The portion sizes are good. A main will typically cost between £13-18 to give you an idea of price. They have a nice range of beers, wines and cocktails. I've been back many times and always had a good experience.

Fantastic little restaurant and bar in a somewhat unassuming location, definitely worth the trip though. An intelligent and varied menu, which is cooked with considerable skill, combine this with the friendly and efficient service and you have a simple but winning formula. Not at all what I expected. The menu isn't huge, but the food is good. The menu changes depending on the time of day. It is a bit pricey, but the quality is good. It has outdoor and indoor seating. The staff were friendly and accommodating. I wasn't aware that you should book to be able to get a table, so bear that in mind if you want to eat here.

Was a really pleasant surprise, we arrived and the area looked a bit run down but it is sandwiched between two lovely parks and there is free parking for 3 hours just 3 mins walk up the road. The service was brilliant and attentive and the food was brilliant, I had a tagine and my wife a surf and turf and the flavours were brilliant. Good offering of drinks, would suggest the food is definitely focus on brunch/lunch but could easily while away an afternoon sitting in the covered outside area out front. We come to the Lock Up often and usually absolutely love it. But today the roast wasn't as good as it usually is. And our main waitress was a bit off. It kind of felt like we were a hindrance to her and she felt stiff. The other waiters and waitresses were lovely, as the staff at the Lock Up usually are. The desserts were fantastic.

Wow. What a find (well.. what a recommendation, I should say) A cosy but spacious gem right on the main road. Went for Sunday lunch today and it did not disappoint. Between the 2 of us we had 1 beef and 1 lamb + 1 extra portion of roast spuds. I’ll start by saying that the extra spuds were not needed, at all. The portions were very generous, and for a nice change, it wasn’t all carrots and over cooked broccoli! The veg on its own would have made a lovely meal, the plate was covered in colour. The meat was also plentiful and served just how I like it (rare, but cooked and warm). It was very juicy, nicely pink and full of flavour. On both the beef and the lamb, the meat was dished up in pair of styles. The beef came as 2 fat brisket steaks and a meaty pulled beef Ragu. The lamb however came off the bone, formed into block like thing and some lamb crackling. It really was very good. Service and cost score 10/10.

Only went in for first time last week, and we only went in as we were caught in a cloudburst as we thought it was more a cocktail bar than a cafe..but having had just a coffee on that occasion the menu intrigued us so much we went back again today and had lunch. Hard work deciding as so many interesting things on the menu but in end both had a rarebit, his with crispy bacon, mine with mushrooms and kale. Both were absolutely delicious and filling. A hidden gem in Bristol 🙌 we went for a Sunday roast and pre booked a table for my grandads 80th birthday. The service was next to none, so personal and friendly (not phased by our request to take a group photo of us all! Our server even stood on a chair to get a better angle 😂) they allowed us to bring our own cake in to celebrate as well which was appreciated. In most restaurants I have two or three options that are hard to choose from, at the Lock Up there were about 6 dishes that I wanted equally as badly! In fact our table of six all picked different items and all loved what they received. The savoury cheese cake was particularly noteworthy. You can tell they use high grade, fresh, seasonal vegetables and good quality meat. And so they should for the price you pay. Quite my nose catches the most amazing grill/bbq smells, and The Lock Up is the only place it could come from.
