G. T.Not my favourite Cardiff restaurant, I'm afraid. The staff (and service) were superb - no complaints there. I just felt that the restaurant lacked ambiance as the tables were crammed too closely together which made it seem as though we were almost sitting on other peoples laps. The portion sizes were quite small, too, and I didn't find our starters or desserts very flavoursome; though the mains were nice.

n. l.I used to go to cote two years ago just for the onion soup. I visited this year and i wasn’t disappointed at all. This is still the best french onion soup i’ve had in Cardiff. The restaurant is comfortable. The staff are nice and helpful. The fresh orange juice was refreshing and of course the french onion soup was splendid. Great overall experience.
P. O.The interior of the restaurant is very classy, cosy and well presented. The food was absolutely outstanding but unfortunately service staff very unexperienced or very new . The ordering process went very smooth and quick. The food came out in few minutes was fantastic. Each time we wanted additional drinks we had to look for attention as no one was checking if we need anything or if ourmeal are ok . Two of us ordered flat white coffees which were only warm and very weak, more like small size lattes. We asked for them to be changed for stronger we received back the same dirty mugs with only added extra coffee shot in them. At this point we didnt even know which coffee is whos as they been both a bit drinked . All our table was a table hospitality managers and we were truly amazed of poor quality of service in such a nice place . On the end our boss wanted to say thank you and how much we enjoyed the food to the waitress but she basically ingored him with quick and cold " thanks " . Its such a shame as the place look beautiful and we all enjoyed our meals but we won't be back in a hurry due to the service issues .
C. B.Such a wonderful restaurant! I went there with some friends for my 21st birthday, and we enjoyed such a tasty meal! The staff was also very nice to us. The only thing i can “complain” about is that we were a tad packed on our table, and the restaurant was so so full! But apart from that, it was a great experience!!!

P. L.We visited Cote last Thursday. It was the first time in quite a few years that we had been here. I must admit that I was delighted with the experience! There was a concert being held in the Principality stadium that evening, and as a result, the City centre was very busy indeed. We were fortunate though, and a very courteous and polite member of staff found us a table. The food was excellent ,the wine was also of a superb standard, and reasonably priced for the type of establishment and location. I recommend the White bait,it was superb!! Altogether, a very pleasant lunch. I am not a fan of service charges, but on this occasion,I was happy to pay it. They had found us a table, without a booking, on what was an incredibly busy day for them,and the staff were friendly, courteous and polite. I look forward to calling in again on my next trip to Cardiff. Highly recommended!
S. D.My boyfriend and I went to Cote for dinner on valentine's day. Every staff member we came across was incredibly friendly, professional and helpful. The food was delicious! Our bill did include quite a steep service charge but this was optional. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would definitely dine at Cote again.

D. M. 1.Had breakfast here to start off our Christmas shopping day. Absolutely gorgeous! Honestly couldn't understand why we were the only people there for breakfast. Definately couldn't understand why Bill's was busy when the breakfast in Cote is sooooooo much better (and warmer, what we asked for and edible, everything Bills wasn't). Staff amazing, place lovely, food wonderful all in all a great start to our day!

The chicken pate was delicious, with plenty of toast and chutney to accompany it.

S. P.Decent French fare in the centre of town. Friendly and attentive service. Starter of Steak tartare was over seasoned and wet for my taste. It didn’t really allow the quality of the steak meat to come through. The main of chicken was good at best. Crispy on the outside and not too dry. The green salad that was served with it was uninspiring. Overall ok but I would dine here if I was passing through rather than a destination restaurant.
B. C.I love Cote restaurants, and the Cardiff one did not disappoint. It was busy and we didn't have a reservation but they still managed to fit us in. Staff were very helpful and friendly, service to notch. The menu is the same in most, but the food here was prepared to perfection. 3 course is a must, there is just too much to miss out on otherwise. Highly recommended!

Loses two stars due to the price for food. It was not cheap and i dont think the food quality nor quantity reflected it, also there was a 20% service charge...which is fairly steep! Honestly was a bit shocked. I believe there has been shrinkflation on the portions but also the meat of the burger, was just not that good. It almost felt like the patty was precooked then reheated for our meat (not cooked from fresh).

We go there pretty regularly and if you do not mind French cuisine, this place is probably the best you can find in Cardiff among relatively cheap chain restaurants. You can pop in and they will likely have tables for you unless you do it on a busy day. It is advisable to book in advance for parties of 4 and more and also if you want to dine on Friday or Saturday evening.
Wine selection is not great if you prefer white but still pretty decent, which I suppose is typical for a place like this. Great atmosphere though and is not loud unlike other places nearby.

R.I went here with my fiancée for my birthday. Off the cuff decision and the best I've ever made. The welcome was lovely, the French breakfast was outstanding. SO tasty. and the coffee? WOW! The cappuccino was the best I've ever tasted. Not a cheap place to breakfast at but totally worth it for a special occasion.

P. T.This is a lovely restaurant with an excellent menu offering a wide range of dishes at reasonable prices considering it is situated in the heart of the city centre. There are lunchtime specials between 12pm to 5pm. The customer service is first class and even though the restaurant was busy the food was served very quickly. The beers are in bottles as there are no draught options which makes it expensive as bottles are between £3.50 to just under £4. I would have given 5 stars but the reason I did not was when I asked for the bill I noticed I had been over charged but then on checking again in small print at the bottom of the bill it stated I had been charged an extra 12 and half per cent gratuity which was optional. This I found totally unacceptable as if I want to tip anyone then that is my choice and I should not feel pressured into doing so or having to ask for it to be removed. The other downside is what if you don't notice it until after you have paid and left the restaurant. If there is a large group of you for every £100 spent they charge you £12.50. This practice should be made clear to you when ordering your meal not just added to your overall bill at the end.

W.Amazing meal, French onion soup was hearty, so tasty, would have been happy if that was all we ate but it just got better and better, husband had rib eye, cooked and seasoned to perfection, garlic butter oozed as he cut through the steak, the frites were hot and crisp. I had the pork tenderloin which was served with potato gratin and mushrooms creme fraiche, oh my, every bite was a joy and I savoured every mouthful, the pork was so tender it could have been cut with a spoon had I desired, the gratin, tender and garlicky and the mushrooms perfect. The service was spot on, attentive without being intrusive. All in all couldn't have asked for better.

A. H.Really good food in a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere. The only downside is the "optional" service charge which they automatically add to your bill, leaving you with the uncomfortable task of asking them to remove it if you so wish. I like to make my own decision as to whether a service charge is warranted, and the automatic inclusion actually dissuaded me from paying one.

Which was great - menu was lush lots to choose from, we both had steak and a selection of veg - and a bottle of wine which was just right and finished off with cheese and a lemon tart . But very disappointed with bill after I paid my wife said that was more than I thought - when looking at the bill they had add 12 1/2% service charge !! Wow - now that should have been explained and surely should not have been added to bill with out and mention of it !

J. F.Arranged a meal here a few days after Christmas for a group of 9 after a previous visit. We were taken straight to our table and service was prompt afterwards considering the restaurant being busy with other parties.
The food that came out was tasty and well presented. However our waitress whilst taking the orders seemed to get a bit confused and unsure of the orders and how to take them down on her iPad.
One of our friends also ordered ice cream for desert and was very disappointed by the lack of ice cream. There was only one small scoop of ice cream in a pot and that was pretty much it. Even the waitress looked at the desert for some time in confusion. This is something that needs changing or avoiding for customers. A great alternative pudding is the chocolate mouse, I highly recommend it.

W.We visited this restaurant in the centre of Cardiff twice before so when planning a celebration dinner for my birthday it was my first choice for our Tuesday Cardiff trip, we had a fantastic meal with great service, we went for the steak which was excellent and their house red wine went down a treat. We would highly recommend this restaurant for a midweek evening dinner out or date night.

F.We frequently visit the Cote Brasserie when in Cardiff and generally have a lovely time as I suppose we did this time that is except for the service which although ok did not reflect the 12.5% optional service charge! On a few occasions I found myself trying to get the attention of one of their waiters, there were 3 huddled together around the till area chatting to each other totally unaware of our table, it was only when I had to get up from the table and approach them before they responded which is a shame nevertheless the meal and ambiance was lovely and when it came to pay we reduced the tip accordingly. I would have much preferred to have paid it in full had we had a more attentive service, hopefully next time??

Opted for the set lunch at £13.50 for three courses.
Husband opted for the premium set lunch at just a couple of pounds more.
I had the vichyssoise to start and husband had the warm blue cheese salad.
Both very good.
Husband then went for the rib eye steak cooked correctly and I opted for the steak frites.
Unfortunately this was overdone so the manager promptly replaced it along with the frites.
It should ideally have been “hammered” first to tenderise it but neither the first or second had been and the second, although better, was still slightly overdone.
In fairness I was asked straightaway if it was acceptable so I said it was ok and better than the first one.
We followed with a good quality strawberry ice cream and a chocolate mousse both of which were fine.
The sourdough bread we ordered was fresh and warm and the tomato salad side was also good.
I had decided to query the optional 12.5% service charge, not because there was anything wrong with the service from both our waitress and the manager but because I like to have the option of leaving the amount I decide is fair.
When the bill came the manager had generously but to my mind rightly, removed all three of my courses from my bill as the steak had not been quite the way it should have been.
In view of this gesture I was happy to pay the gratuity as I felt it would have been churlish not to.
The service in all honesty couldn’t be faulted.
The food overall was very good for the price although as in all these places the drinks, beers in our case, are overpriced.
I would certainly return though probably have been put off the steak frites.
There are plenty of other lovely dishes on offer with both set menus and the a la carte menu offers yet more.
It was quiet when we went at about 2.30 on a wet mid week day but still had a good atmosphere.

P. M.On a mid week day in the centre of Cardiff surrounded by other restaurants this is a must visit. Their set meal before 7pm along side a bottle of wine really cannot be beaten. Both the service and food are exceptional and it is really hard to choose other places when you get this kind of experience.
