Reviews of Mint and Mustard

We booked and went. Menu is not extensive. There are several vegetarian options and some vegan also. We ordered tandoori cauliflower wings for starters. They were well marinated, crunchy and had delicate smoky flavour. Aubergine for mains was a good choice. Alleppey vegetarian curry was creamy and tasty resembling a bit Thai curry.
It was quiet for a weekend. It is not a good sign. But we were pleasantly surprised by the menu, food quality.

Amazing food, great service definitely the best Indian restaurant in wales. The owner was lovely and very welcoming. See you soon.

Lovely evening here last night. Last and a few years ago and certainly feel this place has more of an atmosphere than previously and portion size has definitely increased.
Food was beautiful, everyone enjoyed their meals. Good service from all staff.
10%service charge automatically added to the bill for four people.
A.
Great Indian food that might not be your regular options so was really interesting. Staff were very friendly, cocktails were delicious and we left very satisfied!

Words fail to adequately describe today's amazing night with friends. All praise must go to the staff; what fantastic customer service.
From menu layout to food presentation to amazing cuisine. There was nothing wrong with anything; everything was wonderful.
The restaurant's medium-volume Bollywood music, combined with the presence of an Indian manager, made us feel at ease , comfy and homely .
M&M Cardiff is highly recommended !! Kuddos 🥂

Delicious food, good sized portions for a decent price, will keep coming back😍

Was there fir a family birthday. I'm not a fan of spicy food. Manager chatted with me and created a creamy, delicious, spice-free chicken korma. Outstanding.
E.
We had the vegan thali to share between two - this was a good way to try most/all of the vegan dishes. We had extra roti and a starter of onion bhajis too, which were delicious.
The menu could be a little clearer on what is/isn't vegan.
M. R.
Nice food, staff, and location. Its not cheap, I wish they gave you more food in your orders. The food taste better in Salkaara, but this place is still good, a must try.

Upsides.
Descent Indian food.
Good portions for reasonable price.
Well cooked mutton with delicious gravy
Good vegetarian food.
Indian bread/Naan/roti was spot on as it should be.
Courteous staff.
Downsides.
Chicken gravy, paneer starter and few dishes were too sweet for the palate.
Only one high chair for kids. So if there are more than one toddlers at the time better ask to reserve before coming in.
Parking may be an issue as it is on a busy road.
B. S.
Not your usual Friday night curry.
Beautifully presented, super tasty and really light.
You don't have to go heavy on the carbs but the fig and coriander naan was amazing. It was also grease free! Lovely staff, great meal.
M. B.
We visited this restaurant this evening, having lived very close by for a while and we left wishing we had made the most of the restaurant more often!
If you're looking for exceptional Indian cuisine and great service, this is absolutely the place to go! We loved our evening and will definitely be visiting again soon!

The place looks so beautiful and traditional, the food was absolutely delicious. I 100% recommend!

First time here in Cardiff and been looking on Google for good indian restaurant. This one is easily noticeable roadside. I would rate 3 based on following factors
Quantity - 2
Quantity vs cost should probably stabilize. Had roti, steamed rice, pilao rice, Veggie trio - quantity of starter in this very less like - Bombay chat, samosa, onion pakoda each single piece. Bombay chat was not available, they replaced with paneer Tikka.
quality - 4
service -4.5 with no hesitation.
taste -2
Bhendi masala could have tasted better - couldn't exactly figure out flavor of any masala except tomatoes , dal tadka was little salty.
Cost - 3
Dal tadka, rice, veggie trio was definitely not equal to the price they are charged with. Not sure about other items on the menu (as me & my friends are vegetarian, so of course we had vegetarian dinner).
Overall, can try for one time when you are around Cardiff. Management to look for an option to balance cost vs quantity.

Came here for my graduation on the 21st of July. Having spent 4 years in Cardiff I had never gotten around to coming here despite all the rave reviews. I was not disappointed. Unlike most Indian restaurants where dishes are mostly sauce with a few bits of meat in, the dishes here are full of flavour and the portions of meat provided are a pleasent surprise. I have yet to find a place that does both naan and roti so well as well. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the mood for an Indian.

Delicious food, good atmosphere, great meal deal on a Wednesday night.

Couple days ago i went to mint and mustard in cardiff. The food was delicious and the service was great and fast also there was good value for money. Reccomend it for sure!!
K. C.
Great gem of a place in Cardiff. Had the tasting sharing platter with delicious starters, sorbet (palette cleanser), mains and stunning selection of desserts. Service was welcoming and friendly, attentive and friendly. The Indian house red was stunning, smooth and perfect to have with the food. Can't wait to go back. Thank you...🙏🏾
L.
Good food, reasonable price and very friendly staff.
M. B.
Kebab platter wasnt bad, I think the salmon could be improved. Preferred the scallops and chicken tikka style starters last time. Curries were good.

First time eating here. Was highly recommended by my wife although she had also not been for over 7 years. We decided to book a table online for Saturday night which was straight forward with instant confirmation. We went with the 2 person taster menu (approx £40/head). The quality of service we received throughout our meal was second to none. Each course was delicious and presented in style. Even the dessert, which isn't something I'd have often at an Indian restaurant was amazing. I'd highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area. There's also a branch in Penarth if that works out closer. Looking forward to returning in the near future.

Third time there and it was the best! Very fine indian flavors and excellent service. It is a must on every Cardiff visit!
G. V.
Fantastic food . Very well presented. Fabulous flavours. Four people on our table not a single complaint. Great Gin selection too. Comfortable environment. Definitely coming back again. 3 courses plus lots of drinks £120 . Bargain!!
s.
Ate here for the first time this evening, and found the whole experience exceptional. Pleasant well decorated surroundings, excellent service and a wonderful menu.
We opted for the Tasting Menu 2 and it really was wonderful. Great flavours, well made (the chicken and lamb were rich and melt-in-the-mouth), and beautifully presented. The accompanying wine sampler suited the courses beautifully.
Some may say it's a tad expensive but the place was rammed, and obviously appreciated, so clear not too expensive.
Highly recommend! 👏
R. R.
Really good service quality food no wonder this place has won a few awards over the years highly recommended for curry lovers

Went on Thursday for the 20% off food before 7pm. It was a lovely experience and the food was amazing. The staff were very attentive and friendly.
For starters we had onion bhaji and chicken tri - so tasty! Mains were chicken tikka masala - very creamy and rich tomato flavour with a lovely warm heat. Beef calcut - delicious and punchy.
There was room for dessert and we had the chocosamosas - I have no words to describe, I'd recommend this!!
Will be back to try the Wednesday deal - wine and dine for £14.95.
D. H.
Solid. We had the paneer for starters then various vegetarian small plates. Mango curry was very good and not sweet. The other 3 (paneer Tikka masala, okra dish, and 1 other) had very similar sauces hence the 4 star not 5.
d. k.
Booked in for a Thursday evening discount. The food was excellent and atmosphere great but will definitely come back for the top notch service. The server was friendly and attentive and her energy really elevated the experience. Excellent
S. C.
Good website, clear and concise with good photography. Swift delivery service and FANTASTIC quality food. Yes it’s more expensive than other places but it’s IS SO worth it. Well done Mint and Mustard, you nailed it:)
M. W.
Outstanding food always. Best we've ever had, real quality food.
I. S.
Best Indian restaurant in Cardiff! My favourite place to go for special occasions :)
L. C.
My husband and I ate there tonight. The food was good but the service was very quick and surly. It was our wedding anniversary but it didn’t feel at all special. Having eaten at the one in Penarth this one was disappointing. I wouldn’t go back I don’t think, but would maybe order a takeaway.
A. J.
Staff lovely and food excellent. Authentic Indian food rather than usual take away offering elsewhere. The Punjabi Style Chicken Spinach dish was to die for.
P. K. M.
Mint and Mustard! By the name itself you'll remember the smell of Indian cuisine and undoubtedly will match to the taste of classic Indian dishes.
Everything would value to the money from the ambience, taste of food, way of presenting dishes and what not!
I just loved chicken tikka masala and I highly recommend the mocktails of here.
A good place to have fun with loved ones and colleagues to try some variety Indian dishes.
J. K.
Me and my partner were given the set tasting menu no.2 as a gift. We went on a Thursday and it was snowing so was very quiet.
The service was obviously quick, but very polite and helpful. They offered to take our coats and we were served instantly. The food was absolutely perfect and both of us enjoyed every single bite. Neither of us have been very adventurous when it comes to Indian before so most dishes were new to us and in our opinion cooked and prepared fantastically.
A pleasure from start to finish
J. S.
Incredible quality food, excellent service, even on a Friday night. Thanks! :)
K. P.
Heard a great deal about Mint and Mustard and so expectations were high, but sadly disappointed. We ordered take-away on a Friday and can only assume they were busy. The food tasted fresh enough, but was swimming in liquid- it was like a creamy curry soup, with very little body, and tiny fragments of veg. The taste was good though. I just got the impression they were running low in ingredients and too busy to prepare to their usual standard. As a result not the best meal for the price they charged.
A. O.
OMG! I have NEVER had such amazing Indian food. We had a takeaway delivered one night & then a few weeks later decided to go to the Cardiff restaurant. I love Indian food, but this is something else. The flavours are fresh & vibrant, the presentation superb. Once you have eaten here, you will never want ordinary Indian again...and push the boat out, try their pudding medley, you won't regret it.
M. R.
Good selection of Indian food, Exotics of Chicken starter is very tasty and having sampled a quite a few mains over the years I can say the food is very good. Desserts, not bad but would like to see some traditional Indian desserts.
J. B.
Food was nice, especially starters - but staff informed us that we couldn't have tap water as there was no running water in the building?? Even the toilets had no running water and we questioned how the staff would wash their hands in the kitchen without it. They then proceeded to charge us for the bottle of spring water for the table despite it being a legal requirement to give free water if alcohol is served.
Was impressed overall with food but the water situation was strange.
P. E.
Tremendous food good veggie selection
l.
Considering the hype around this place was really underwhelmed, menu was pretty limited so asked if the waiter if I could have chicken instead of beef which was (politely refused). My 'hot beef curry' was not spicy and pretty watery. My girlfriends Korma was far too spicy.
Nothing seriously wrong but wont be going back
Z. H.
Absolutely brilliant, love going here, would recommend to anyone that loves a curry. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and are on point with service. The food is perfect and you can tell its all cooked fresh. For me it would bring it up to a five star if the food was a bit cheaper, be prepared to spend a bit when you, but I can't wait to go back!
G. J.
The food is always fantastic here. Head & shoulders above your average Indian restaurant. Also, unusually for an Indian restaurant, they have a great selection of desserts! Lovely place.
J. L.
Very nice taster menu with fab waiting service although gent on phone while booking was less than helpful
D. T.
Been here a few time over the years and I have enjoyed it each time
- Staff are friendly
- food is reasonably priced for a city restaurant
- the choice of food is great, including vegetarian and vegan options
- I seem to remember the place looked quite nice in the past, but i do think it could do with a change in decor.
- Parking isn't great as its on the main road of Witchurch rd. But you will normally find a space down the side streets
S. D.
Son booked a table for 9 people inc 3 children, service was amazing, offering ideas for an unenthusiastic nipper, they were attentive but unobtrusive.
Food was out of this world, presented so beautifully.... Portions looked small but with the intense taste & richness any more would ruin the experience. Next time I'll skip the starter (a veggie paradise) & try a desert.
Even though my hubbie hadn't ordered a desert they came out singing happy birthday with a scoop of ice cream & lit candle....(not asked them to do this)....a wonderful end to a fantastic evening

This review is for the whitchurch branch.
The salan (gravy) for the vindaloo tasted great. The lamb seemed like a late add-on than something that was cooked with the spices. And service was quite slow, took 30 minutes for the starter, and another good length of time for the mains. The staff were quite polite.
M. J.
Very tasty food, quick service, friendly helpful staff. Would definitely go there again.
L. W.
Remarkably good food. Starter of fried soft shelled crabs light and soft and very tasty. Bombay chat were tiny bombs of deliciousness, stuffed with spiced yogurt and dressed with pomegranate seeds.
For the.mains the stack of sea bass was the best fish curry my husband has ever had (which is saying a lot as he is a big fan.) My prawns in coconut and mango sauce with seafood rice included four butterflied prawns cooked just tender, served on a banana (?) leaf. Daughter's chick pea curry quite spicy but not enough to mask the flavours, and the chick peas were soft but not too sloppy. Pleasant helpful service. Cannot recommend too highly. Will definitely return.
J. P.
One of the best (if not the) Indians in Cardiff. More 'Up Market' then your normal Indian but still not breaking the bank.
Food was awesome, I would very much suggest giving the Bombay Chaat a go which I was informed you had to eat in one go (and I'm glad I did - You will see why..).
Great service, very attentive but not intrusive and gave explanations of each dish with a bit of background as each one came out - Great little addition.
M. F.
While the food was to a generally high standard, with good portions and well recommened; excepting a few choice sides, one has to question their idea of a papadum. Their service flirts with the other end of the spectrum. I have yet to be ignored mid order by any other restaurant; and yet to be given a lukewarm plate by those same restaurants. Their prices are reasonable for their target customers, although it could not be considered value for money. Hopefully my experience with their service was a one off and that if I did ever go again it would not be repeated. In summation I'd give this restaurant a cautious recommendation.
I.
High quality food and ultra friendly staff. A great dining experience.
P. F.
We first visited the Mint and Mustard for lunch within a few days of them opening. We've been visiting ever since and the food is the best you'll find of any Indian restaurant in Cardiff, and probably the best of any Indian restaurant I've ever tried. However, you get what you pay for and the Mint and Mustard is also the most expensive Indian restaurant I've ever eaten in. For that reason alone we don't visit as regularly as we used to.
The Mint and Mustard is now open for lunch most days of the week. The lunch menu is short, but the food is the same quality as you'll get in the evening for under half the price.
C. P.
More than a standard curry house.
I also really enjoyed the cooking lessons they run.
S. M.
The food is quality, a very fresh take on Indian food although we have never eaten in only had the take away service you don't get a lot of food for the money. Staff seem friendly when taking orders although be expected for a bit of a wait for home delivery service.
T. M.
A large group of us booked for a meal in Penarth last night. All I can say is fabulous food and service throughout. We will definitely be back A+++++

Impeccable service and faultless food. We were a group of 9 and we all had perfect food. Seafood platter awesome. They even catered for the picky kids!
S. F.
If you are looking for a good lunch or dinner this is the place...the food is superb and there is no competition... Although the food is slightly over priced, it is a small price to pay for the excellent quality of the food, if that makes sense... Anyway I would highly recommend this to everyone but make sure u have a lot of cash with you
