Reviews of Mowgli Street Food

A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Seating indoors and out and even some swinging seats too.
As a newbie to Mowgli the team explained the menu and how to approach choosing dishes to make sure you get the best experience.
The food arrives when it's ready and no specific order so you can start eating quickly and feel like a king as more dishes arrive.
The presentation of the dishes and flavours were fabulous.
Will definitely return the next time I'm in Cardiff.

An amazing experience! A beautiful setting with lots of fairy lights making a lovely environment. The staff were great explaining the menu and how it all worked. And the food was amazing! Everything we ate was delicious. Lots of small sharing dishes. The Chat Bombs are highly recommended.

Beautiful restaurant, friendly staff and delicious food. The atmosphere was excellent and the cute swing seats made it fun for all! Definitely book as its very popular due to its style and menu.

Delicious Indian street food dishes, so tasty. Stunning interior, perfect lighting 👌. Staff are really friendly and helpful, loads of veggie options (The Tiffin is great value for money) love it here. Highly recommended.
T. M.
Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. Very few places have it all but this is one of them. Excellent food, staff and ambience. They also welcomed our little dog who was the perfect dinner companion laying quietly under the table from start to finish. A total taste explosion. Wow!!!

Was really looking forward to this meal. Sunday evening was quite busy unlike other restaurants in the area. Went for the chef's selection Tiffin boxes. Not a huge amount of kick in the Curry's and sweeter than I expected. Still enjoyable however. We ordered rotis but unfortunately they didn't arrive. Most of staff were lovely, one was cold and non engaging. Just took the shine off a lovely meal.

Amazing food, lovely restaurant and great service. We tried quite a few things off the menu and all was fantastic and very tasty. Would definately recommend!!
S. D.
Stunning food indian street food style great cocktails atmosphere was buzzing we had a wonderful meal here 😋 definitely recommend the lamb chops & chicken!

Great food! Full of flavors and spices.. very unique dishes, great service, great atmosphere..Recommended!

The food was so tasty and fun - best described as 'Indian Tapas' - a selection of dishes to share which means a variety of lovely flavours and textures. It was lovely to have a server who knew the menu inside out and helped us to make good decisions on what to order. Fab food, helpful staff and lovely ambience - well worth a visit.
T. R.
Awesome vibe with a great atmosphere inside.
The staff is extremely friendly and seem to really enjoy their job.
Menu is off the charts - great twist to Indian street food.

One of the best Indian food I’ve had in the UK!
The vibe is astounding, perfect place for a date.

It was our first time in this restaurant and what a great evening we had! The food was so delicious! Good atmosphere, the service, Everything! I really enjoyed the whole experience, even though I’m not a big fan of this kind of food, the experience was very good. Miguel helped us with everything we need during our dinner, whenever we need him, he was there to help us, even though the restaurant was full, he was very attentive. We will be back for sure.

Been wanting to try Mowgli for ages now and finally managed to go last night after booking a table for 6pm on a Sunday evening. We wasn't 100% sure where exactly it was & actually walked past it but glad we got there in the end. We were quickly seated & surprised how incredibly busy it was in there for a Sunday. We opted for both trying the office workers meat tiffin’s as we wanted to try dishes that maybe we wouldn't have necessarily ordered. We had mother butter chicken, house chicken curry, mowgli house keema, house lamb curry, mowgli paneer, tea steeped chickpeas, green ginger & rhubarb dahl and 2 x basmati rice. We loved every dish we had, it was all so tasty & full of flavour but my fave was the mowgli house keema, paneer & dahl 😋 We quickly realised we ordered too much just for the two of us as we were stuffed and could only manage to eat half of each dish between us. There was no way I was letting that food go to waste so we asked for a doggy bag to take the rest home as it was just too delicious to throw it away so I am having that for dinner tonight and I cannot wait. I can definitely recommend visiting Mowgli as it stands out by miles and nothing like the usual indian restaurants which is good as it feels more authentic and the decor is amazing too. 10/10 go visit if you want tasty food that actually feels like its not unhealthy to eat 👍👍👍👍

Absolutely delicious and outstanding experience! I visited here with two friends on a Sunday afternoon, luckily got in before a rush so we were able to sit at one of the tables with swinging seats (highly recommend!!). I believe Chloe served us as well as Sasha at the door. All the staff were lovely and welcoming and gave great recommendations for what to choose. Excellent vegan options also (separate menu!), I had the rhubarb and ginger dahl (I think? Pictured!) and my GOSH I have never tasted such an excellent combination of flavours before! The “crisp” breads (I can’t remember what they were called) were excellent with them, and also highly recommend the yoghurt (soya for vegan) bombs for starters. Like anexplosion of flavour and deliciousness in your mouth 😍 will be returning to one of their restaurants, I hope they open more across the country 🤞🤍

Wedding lunch saviours
Long overdue review for the wonderful Mowgli’s in Cardiff that accommodated our last minute lockdown wedding lunch.
We were only allowed a tiny civil ceremony due to government restrictions and it was so difficult to find a restaurant to serve us lunch.
They were so kind and accommodating and the food was incredible. We felt safe and well looked after. Mowgli’s will always have a special place in my heart for not cancelling during a year of frequent wedding planning disappointments.
Decor and ambience was perfect and service was fantastic.
Try the Himalayan Cheese toast - divine!

My visit was fantastic from start to finish. I dined as a table of two on a very busy Friday night. The team didn't seem to be fazed with how busy they were and were all smiles and happy to help. The food was tasty (I had the yoghurt chat bombs and the house chicken curry, both very, very tasty). I do feel like I need to give Miguel a special mention, he was super helpful and obviously knew his stuff. We will be back!
k. l.
A lovely restaurant very different unusual swing seats, Indian food served like tapas, so could order 2or 3 dishes each, we all really enjoyed it and would recommend
G. J.
Restaurant was recommended by a friend.
Food was delicious.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
One of the best restaurants I have been to in Cardiff.
Highly recommended.
Will definitely go back when next in Cardiff.
D. P.
Very enjoyed our experience at mowgli's. Our server Damian gave us great recomendation and make us feel welcome.
M. V. E.
To begin with: the food (& the wine) were exquisite. But even more important: the service was remarkable. We can’t praise the staff and the general vibe of the place enough. We came in with a lot of allergies and a bunch of questions and I’ve never seen a restaurant be so accomodating for our particular needs. Thank you so much. If you find yourself in Cardiff, have (at least) one of your meals in Mowgli, you will not regret it!
L.
The food, the atmosphere, the service all amazing. Had a lovely night!

Street style Indian food
Lots of flavour
Food is served as and when it's ready
M. M.
Amazing food, it was great to try something new, both with the type of food and also how it is served. The place has great atmosphere and our friendly server Damian who is knowledgeable about what they are serving was just amazing. I would recommend the Rose Raspberry Sherbert cocktail as well :)
A. P.
Great atmosphere and decor. Food was well presented and was all very tasty. We both got Mango Lassis and the Office Worker's Tiffin which is amazing value. To be honest, the mango lassi was a little underwhelming. On the food front, we were worried they would double up on some selections in the Tiffins, but to our surprise, we got 6 different items and two rices. For me, I enjoyed the experience, but nothing was really stand out. Regardless I'd go back for the value and atmosphere.
N. P.
Visited this evening on an off chance of a walk in table, as when looking on line, we had no luck!
Thankfully we got a table outside, but after less than a minute, the manager, sorted us out with a table inside (much appreciated) Carys was great, so thank you again.
As for the food it was awesome, the house lamb curry was melt in the mouth delicious, and the mother butter chicken was stunning, will be back, already looking online to book again.
Thanks and wish you all the best. See you again soon.

Having recently visited Mowgli's with a friend, we were blown away with the menu food and service. The food exceeded our expectations and all the staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly our waitress Pheebs who thoroughly explained the menu. We 100% recommend and will be back again soon!
S. S.
Came for the first time for my birthday. Lots of little dishes, like an Indian tapas, was amazing food! Staff were friendly and explained the menu. Will 100% be coming back next time we are in Cardiff. Recommend getting the sticky chicken thighs & treacle chips for starters 😍
J. T.
Came here for a last minute lunch and food was tasty with cute interior! Some seats had swings as well which was fun!
R. P.
Great food and a good atmosphere. Some food did arrive cold, possibly because of staff shortages. Overall a good experience and I will be back. Southern street food is really varied and very tasty
C. T.
First time visiting Mowglis for me, picked it as a birthday treat and to try something new.
Absolutely loved it, wasn't expecting the decor inside at all, completely covered in twinkly fairy lights it was absolutely beautiful. The food was gorgeous as well, really well made and bursting with flavour. Our host was lovely, explained the menu to us in that people usually choose a couple of bits from the street food and pair them with a curry and carbs from the right. I didn't fancy a curry so I had 2x street foods (tandoori chicken on roti and himalayan cheese toast) with the Mowgli slaw.
We did have to chase up the drinks as we'd still not seen them after half hour but they came straight away when we did so it was fine. Will definitely be going back to try other bits from the menu, highly recommended.
D. W.
My wife had been told how good this place is by a few people, so thought we'd give it a try; it was a bit of a mixed bag however. We didn't realise that the food is brought out as it's ready, bit odd for curry based cuisine as it's something you'd want to eat the different components as one. We're not a fan of the 'as it comes' thing anyway because we like eating together. Maria had the butter chicken curry, side of rice & treacle fries, I had the lamb house curry & a side of roti breads. The curries we lovely, mine especially was full of flavour, lovely seasoning & nice heat. They were only warm temperature-wise though; the rotis were cold, and a bit cardboard-like. Maria's rice was cold also. The fries we tasty, but as they are over a 1000 calories per portion, she felt they weren't worth the calories. All the menu items have a calorie count, this is a good thing.
The staff were personable, the restaurant itself was lovely, lots a fairy lights making it pretty. Would we go back, no... Having said this, the other diners there seemed to be enjoying themselves & I can see why people rate it, its just not for us. If they brought the food out together, & it was pipping hot, now that would be a different kettle of fish.
L. M.
Wonderful interior and service, the restaurant is very appealing and comfortable place to be however was left slightly unimpressed with the food. Me and my partner ordered several veggie dishes but to be honest our uncultured palette couldn’t identify the dishes except the dhal as they all tasted relatively similar. We left feeling slightly underwhelmed and disappointed in ourselves as we felt we couldn’t appreciate an authentic Indian tasting restaurant. By far the best item we ate was the yoghurt balls freebies we were given at the start of the service. Unfortunately taste wise it went down from there for us.
S. T.
Had a lovely evening at Mowglis. The food was amazing and tasty and we had perfect service. Our server was Megan, she was so friendly she couldn’t do anymore for us! The perfect evening, we will definitely be returning!
A. M.
We came here on Friday and had the bhel puri, chat bombs, treacle tamarind fries, chip butty and the holy chow. The chat bombs were recommended by friends and oh wow were they delicious, easily my favourite! Lovely atmosphere, great vegan food and friendly staff. Looking forward to coming back!
J. M.
Delicious meal really interesting dishes will definitely be back
A. M.
Been here a few times now.
Love the venue.
Love the service.
My recommendation would be the house lamb curry with rice and puri. Five stars all day, especially to our server Harriet who was an incredible empath.
J. B.
I've wanted to go to a Mowgli for a while after buying the cookbook, and I wasn't disappointed.
Unfortunately, the fryers were broken, but still had a good selection.
I would highly recommend trying the Chat Bombs and the sorbet.
G. H.
This food is massively overhyped. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it but for the cost it needs to really wow and at least have more meat in it.
E. B.
An amazing experience! Food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere is lovely! Our waitress, Meg was so attentive and couldn’t do enough for us! Will definitely be returning!!
P. G.
Went with my wife, had a nice experience, staff were attentive and helpful. The food was good with plenty of flavour. Ambiance was fine and enjoyable with good drinks.
E. G.
Amazing food, with lovely, attentive staff. Meg, our server, was absolutely fantastic throughout. Great price point too, would recommend to anyone.
D. R.
Everything was incredible about this place, the food THE DRINKS. we waited for a bit for our table but Dan made it really welcoming. And whilst it was busy we didn't feel rushed or unattended
M. W.
Slow service and alot of items missing from the menu. Waiter had to come back three times to inform us that items we had ordered were not available.
Overall good atmosphere , friendly staff and tasty food. Just a bit slow to take our orders and bring out food (90mins wait for food on a Monday night ...)
D. -.
The food was unforgetable here. Damian was amazing , he was friendly, giving recommendations when we weren't too sure what to order. The decoration and atmosphere was amazing too. I recommend a visit.
T. J.
Amazing food, sadly a few customers had drunk more than they could handle and got loud and leary, management should have kicked them out, simple answer is don't give them tables when they turn up the worse for wear.
But can't take anything away from the fantastic food and great service.
M. R.
The glazed chicken reminded me of Singapore BBQ wings but with a slight satay seasoning, yet without the thick sauce. Pho is good, soup's tasty. Summer rolls come with hoisin sauce that similar to the Peking duck sauce. Service is really speedy.
A. M.
the atmosphere in Mowgil is insane - the fairy lights really make such a nice vibe. However, very disappointed in my chicken curry - very sweet tasting?! And the dishes came out so sparsed that you had to eat them before everything arrived as otherwise it would get cold.
K. W.
Always my first choice to go, amazing food every time. Never had a bad meal. Amazing service from Damian 5star all the way
p. s.
Ambience is awesome, I liked the Swing Table.
Had ordered Roti Wrap Veg-nonveg stater and both were good.
Mowgli Paneer and Chiken Curry were slightly sweet but had decent taste and aroma.
Fair prices..
P. F.
Beautifully decorated interior and the food is even better. Recommend the rose lasso and be sure to order the chat bombs. They are one bite taste sensations and the flavours build and build
K. M.
Never fails to deliver. Been in a few branches and quality and flavoursome food is a given. Bunny Chow, Bhel Puri and Chaat Bombs are immense. Will definitely return next time I'm in Cardiff.
J. K.
Great place food was very good. We were advised that the portions were on the small size and that we should possibly pick 2-3 off the menu. I opted for the office worker tiffin 4 tiers of food. This was more than plenty. You will need to book a table. Staff friendly and polite.
H. F.
Had a lovely meal sat on a swing seat table with my boyfriend - Damien was a great server and food was amazing would definitely recommend getting the mother butter chicken :)
A. G.
I will never taste another Indian restaurant food the same again as we did at Mowgli😁
Food was fantastic, really tasty & friendly staff - Best service from Damian!
Well worth a visit, you will not be disappointed!
D. P.
Great first time experience. Lovely tapas style Indian food 😋. Only downside..very noisy the night we went .would definitely go back 🤣
Y. S. G.
Why "yes":
1. Great Indian food and dishes
2. All the vegetarian dishes we ordered were excellent
3. They even have Gulab Jamun
Why "not"
1. Can't think on a reason why not
Bottom line- a well decorated Indian restaurant with great food and service, highly recommended
K. S.
Been waiting to go since it opened and lovely place with nice food. Unfortunately it all didn't come out together and kept waiting while everyone else had their food. Portions look small but very filling and the desert was disappointing however that will be down to personal taste.
We will go back again but during the day next time where it may be less busy.
Looking forward to going again and trying a few different dishes.
R. G.
Staggering Indian Street food. Full range of Vegetarian and Vegan disks as well. The chat bombs are insane and I could eat a whole meal of them on their own. Thank you for your exeptional service Damian!
J.
Always an enjoyable meal here. Menu is full of great options. Restaurant feels a bit cramped. Good service.
J. G.
What an amazing experience, Miguel is a lovely host, great recommendations and fantastic service, we were concerned about the spicy level but he sorted everything making sure our experience at Mowgli's was fantastic.
G. T.
My husband and I celebrated our 16th anniversary here last night.. indian isn't my favourite cuisine - and, although my husband loves Indian, he is extremely particular about how he likes his curry. However, both of us were throughly impressed with Mowgli Street Food. In fact, the cuisine was absolutely divine. The Chat Bombs especially were a disco for my senses! The chilli Martini was also great.
The service was outstanding.. the staff were super friendly and incredibly helpful. The decor and ambiance were very pleasing. Particularly loved the seated rope swings - you do need to book in advance and specifically request one of those tables though. We can't wait to bring our son on our next visit.
J. S.
Really enjoyed our meal here. The food options were different to most Indian restaurants I’ve been to. The staff were helpful and the swings were quite unique. Highly recommended.
Picture of the Angry Bird and Cheese Toast that we had for starters.
J. T.
Had the pleasure of travelling to India with work pre lockdown and experienced some great food, Mowgli takes it to another level and provides high quality, extremely tasty, authentic Indian food. Chat bombs 😋
Decor was great, staff friendly, need to return!
H. L.
Top quality food, and an extremely wide range. Brilliant prices in amazingly creative surroundings, topped off with excellent service from meg, from start to finish.
J. H.
We really enjoyed our meal here. The decor is lovely, service charming and the food great.
C. P.
Loved this place. Great atmosphere. Nice, helpful staff and the food was top notch. Try the Himalayan Cheese Toast and sit on a table with swings for a bit of fun.
M. H.
We went the other day and we were served by a bubbly bundle of joy called Meg. She recommended the amazing chat bombs, and her chat was bomb too.
Megnificent.
A. D.
First time really enjoyed the meal I was with my family and they enjoyed it also staff was very busy and they were excellent thank you 👍😊
J. O. (.
Lovely place with beautiful food, the Holy Chow as cooked by Isobel was particularly phenomenal. I will be back again soon!
S. M.
We stumbled across this place yesterday while walking near the castle and the food was absolutely delicious and the ambience was so cool! The food was so good that we went back again today and had a great meal!
R. L.
Attentive and friendly staff. Lovely ambience and flavoursome food. We will be back to try the dishes we didn’t order this time!
R. K.
My husband booked a meal here for myself and a few friends for my birthday. The staff were super friendly, the food delicious and the restaurant is beautiful 🤩 Perfect birthday vibes 😁 There are plenty of veggie/vegan options too which was handy for our group. Everyone at the table said they would definitely come back again 😁
m. g.
One of the most unique and innovative table seating I have seen in the UK :)
Definitely try Fenugreek kissed fries (Aloo chaat)
V. M.
Excellent Indian street food options on the menu here... The taste was quite authentic and the service was great as well. We didn't have a table booked but the staff were very friendly and helpful anyway. Highly recommended if you are in Cardiff and are looking for Indian food.
D. J.
Lovely interior and friendly helpful staff but at the end of the day it is all about the food and I’m afraid it was just okay. The presentation was great but the food goes cold immediately and the curries all had a film of water over them as if they had been watered down just before serving. The best part of the meal was the gunpowder chicken and the little chat bombs which are served cold anyway. We had gin and tonic cocktails with so much ice you couldn’t actually taste the drink. All in all a disappointing and expensive meal but an experience, hence the three stars.
R. Y.
Absolutely great place to eat Indian street food. The servers are so helpfull so use their knowledge! Best place to eat in Cardiff. 👍💖
R. E.
Wow! Great concept, great food and equally good service. Very welcoming staff who made the effort to ‘squeeze us in’ when we hadn’t booked. Particularly mindful of, and attentive to, our specific (and somewhat challenging) dietary requirements. Will definitely eat here again when we return to Cardiff: and plan to eat in new restaurant opening next year in Bristol (where we live). Service and food of which to be proud!
T. R.
Amazing food, staff really helpful with how the menu works its like tapas really small dishes of delicious Indian food. Definitely go back again.
R. H.
Wow! Just Wow! This is probably one of the best Indian street food locations in Cardiff. Really lovely atmosphere very good service attentive staff, what more could you ask for! They also have some really cool swings as seats in the restaurant.
J. G.
My favourite restaurant in Cardiff - wonderful staff, great food, great ambience.
J. C.
We turned up on a Friday evening and although it was busy, the very friendly staff fitted us in. We sat outside which was a good place to people watch. Lovely food, much more interesting than the usual curry. The house lamb curry with plum was delicious as were the sticky tamarind chips. Great meal and the inside looked very pretty with swing seats and fairy lights.
J. S.
Lovely food. Would ask for a different seat next time though, we were told close to the door & I was cold.
Our order took a long time to arrive but I will definitely book again because the food is so good.
A. G.
A charming and unique place, the swings are an exciting experience. The food is fantastic with some halal and vegetarian options.
J. J.
12 people In our party for a pre graduation mealfor our grandson, Andy our waiter was a very helpful gentleman and explained the menu which was tapas and we didn't have to wait long and the meals were delicious lots of different tastes and spices and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant if you are visiting Cardiff, and a big thank you to Andy for making our experience so enjoyable thank you
P. E.
A very innovative interior design though not entirely comfortable. I can vouch for the authenticity of most of the dishes having worked in a good number of the Indian cities. However, the portions are small and the cost would make an Indian street-food seller deliriously happy though the same cannot be said for my bank manager.
I. W.
The food was awesome the staff were excellent, highly recommended.
S. C.
Excellent service, really good food and drinks, always fully booked up for a good reason! Will go again and highly recommend to everyone.
R. L.
Excellent street food, attentive waiters and good looking, not too big place.
T. C.
One of the best experiences we've had at a new restaurant. Food was quality, atmosphere is amazing! Everyone who waited on us was fab, especially Andy! Everything he recommended we ordered and did no disappoint. Can't wait to visit again! Thank you x
M. M.
Really enjoyable eating experience. Cool restaurant, friendly staff, very tasty food. Will visit again.
t. s.
What an amazing place to eat real authentic Indian food. Staff were all so friendly and accommodating Nisha Katona should be extremely proud of this restaurant x
H. M.
Amazing food, atmosphere and service. We had a great meal and evening.
D. M.
Good food, which appeared freshly made. Quirky decor, efficient staff and reasonably priced.
L. R.
Had lunch there today and WOW! What a beautiful place, the decor and atmosphere was so serene and stunning. We are very big fans of the swing seating arrangement! As for the food - I haven't been that impressed with a range of new (to me) dishes in an age, a genuine taste sensation. Maaaan the Chat Bombs are to-die-for! Little pockets of perfection, I already want more!
Also the staff were really sound and lovely, it was all served so quickly, fresh and hot.
5/5, all the gold stars, we would recommend to anyone and will definitely be going again!
J. D.
Food was ok,disappointed with Masala chai.
S.
Tasty fresh hot food great portions. Gave a 4 as it felt like the staff were asking you if you'd like to order more when we had ordered a round of dishes and then wanted to wait to order again but even tho they knew what we had ordered they still asked if we wanted to order curry and sides but we were so glad we didn't because I was stuffed to the brim and only jus had room for their delicious nutty type doughnut so thought it was a lil unprofessional to get us to order more food when what we had ordered was plenty. The mango lassi is lovely as well as the lamb and potatoes the chat balls were my favourite
M. T.
Always exceptional. Amazing flavours, lovely staff and caters for all. It's so nice to have an equally wide array of Vegan and veggy options (nicer than the meaty stuff). Always get the Bhel Puri. It's divine. Nice beers too!
M. M.
Gorgeous place but unfortunately we were not impressed with the food Prawn curry which was more like a weak tomato sauce with no flavour may be other things are better ?
H. S.
Amazing Indian street food!! I love the angry bird. Really nice decoration. I wanna sit on the swing chair next time ^^
N. R.
Real Indian tasty food with variety of dishes
Interior ambience is awesome
K.
I've had a great time at Mowgli thanks to a great server named Damian, he was very kind and helpful. Thank you Damian! :)
T. C.
Visited last week and was sensational. I had friends in from out of town and took them here and they were blown away by the meat and fish options.
I'm vegan and those dishes were also fantastic.
The Chai Pineapple rum cocktail was out of this world!
A. W.
Excellent as usual. The Tamerind chips were outstanding as was the gunpowder chicken.
K. T.
Stunning food , lovely staff , thoroughly enjoyed our visit … not about the quantity it’s the quality 5*.
N. S.
The restaurant very nice location near HOF , staff are great , tidy , pleasant faced with lovely uniform on , food is great 7 stars , delicious , prices excellent Services is great , all staff coming to check on u , clear the table , giving nice advice about food , management perfect love it
m. k.
5 stars for Ambiance, 3 stars for food. Sorry for the rating, the potion size is very small
J. M.
Excellent food and a different menu from the usual Indian fare. Not a long menu which is always a good sign. My personal favourite is the butter chicken, but everything I've tried has been excellent. Lovely friendly staff too. Can't fault the place and I'm really fussy.
P. a. A.
Superb Indian food. Very flavoursome. Highly recommend. Decor and ambience add something special
K. R.
Delicious Indian street food with moderate service. Would recommend
T.
One of the best, if not the best, Indian experience I've ever had. The food is innovative and different and honestly blew me and my partner away. All made better by the amazing staff, in particular, Andy, who is an absolute gem! Love this place, will be back!
N. A.
First off, we made a reservation at 8.30pm - and then we weren’t seated until around 8.50pm. For the wait, we had yoghurt chat bombs on the house which were absolutely delicious. Then, we ordered Sticky Wings (5/10 - the ginger was way too overpowering), Fenugreek Kissed Fries, Angry Bird were absolutely freaking amazing, some of the best starters we’ve had in a while. Then, we ordered butter chicken - somehow, ginger has a chokehold on the cooks because wow, it didn’t even taste like a proper butter chicken. Then, I ordered the Bunny Chow (I think that’s its name) - I thought I would be served the curry in a typical naan bread style dish, I was served it on a fat cut of a baguette 😭The service was good, the lady with the short hair was so sweet and the young man should know better than to roll his eyes at customers making a decision, seeing as we’re paying customers. Vibe was immaculate, only because of the company around me. However, seriously, the entire restaurant does not live up to the hype. As someone who has lived in India for 2 years, this does not come close to Indian street food - both quality and quantity. Will NOT visit again.
l. h.
Tasty food but over priced for what it is.
Street food by name but not by price
Staff very good
N. K.
Great place.. great ambience and great drinks. However the food can be a little bit of a downer! The veg curry I though was a bit under cooked. But overall a good night out with the family.
b. s.
Authentic South African bunny chow, worth every bite. Service brilliant and very attentive.
M. A.
Food as delicious as it sounds when described by Nisha. Very enjoyable experience and excellent service from Jack H. Now waiting for Bristol restaurant to open.
A. B.
Absolutely stunning food. Makes other Indian food pale in comparison.

Far to over rated. Nice staff, but didn't enjoy the food. Mind you did have a free brownie for my wife's birthday. Been all over the world with H.M FORCES. never again
K. W.
Fabulous restaurant. Amazing food. Friendly staff. Ordering tips - you can share a rice or curry between two and get more of the gorgeous street food as sides. Loved it.
K.
damnnnn - we ordered 3 of the starters which were out of this world! so much flavour!!
the same can't be said for the mains however ;the flavours were a bit strange (being Asian myself) - perhaps too much tamarind and ginger. so perfect for a light lunch but not dinner.
agree with previous review that roti felt like they were shop-bought.
G. S.
Our meal at Mowgli by far and away exceeded my expectations. Absolutely delicious Indian food, with a twist. My husband and I shared a couple of street food 'starters' followed by an office worker's tiffin and some rotis. All dishes were fabulously spiced, without being too hot. We managed to find space to share a Gulab Jamun, which rounded the meal off perfectly. The setting of the restaurant is lovely, staff friendly and prices, very reasonable. I highly recommend a visit here & look forward to returning myself.

Loved the food and cocktails, great atmosphere, will definitely be back to visit
A. P.
Great, tasty food and fantastic venue, amazing swing seats and friendly staff.
J. M.
Excellent setting, food and staff. Great gluten free choice. As a coeliac I felt very safe and accommodated for.
R. B.
Beautiful interiors and the food is SO delicious, can’t wait to go back!
G. G.
Lovely looking restaurant, service was good but the portions were just too small. I was hoping to order lots of small dishes but the price of each dish just doesn't allow you to do this, unless you want to part with a lot of cash. The mother butter chicken portion was ridiculously small with about 4 pieces of chicken. Food was tasty but left still hungry, would I go back? No.
S. L.
Very tasty food. Would definitely return. Service was excellent.
M. P.
Ambience is great, service excellent - the fact that 10% automatic service charge in situ, however, disappointed with food, not in a hurry to go back!
J. B.
Wonderful food, exceptional service - thank you Damian!
R. H.
Only tried the chick peas and roti but very good and nice ambience, will visit again.
M. M.
Be aware this is Mowglis the national food chain and not the few smaller Indian restaurants in the suburbs of Cardiff called Mowglis.
This is a tapas style Indian food restaurant. The foot is served in street style food Tins. Absolutely beautiful food. Tasty and well presented. I loved it.
r. w.
Amazing food, decor and price. Love it!
S. I.
Wonderful decor, fantastic food and really good customer service. We came in hungry but Jake guided us through the menu and looked after us from start to finish. Definitely will be returning.
D. M. A.
Good food. Very friendly and attentive staff.
P.
Lovely food and good vibes. Knocked a star off as a lot of the food tasted quite similar. Would suggest getting a few dishes per person. Happy to go back.
S. F.
We were greeted and served by Ewan, who was incredibly bubbly and sweet.
The drinks were wonderful, and were a cool twist on the standard cocktails you tend to get. The lychee and rose martini was particularly scrummy!
We had a massive selection of food between the four of us, and somehow managed to eat all of it. The Goan fish curry was a favourite of mine- super fragrant and fresh.
My husband really loved the pink Himalayan salted caramel ice-cream.
The swings were cool looking, but I cannot imagine them being too comfy to try and eat a meal from? But I'm a bit of a grump, and also six months pregnant, so, maybe not for me anyway.
Thankyou for the awesome experience this evening.
S. A.
I have no words to explain the authencity of this place its more than excellent. The service was fabulous and most welcomming
V. L.
Amazing Vegan Food! The place has a great atmosphere and the staff are friendly and helpful. I had a wonderful time there and will definitely be back!
G. O.
Nice but personally I prefer a bog standard Indian restaurant
G. K.
Such a beautiful restaurant , with amazing food and the loveliest staff. They are so attentive and really care that you enjoy your time there. I recommend Mowglis to everyone - the vegetarian options are absolutely lush and is defiantly one of my favourite places to go.
G. W.
Lovely restaurant with great food and friendly staff! A new favourite
S. T.
Yet again one of the best meals ever. Fantastic service. Delicious food and amazing atmosphere.
A. C.
Great location great decor, nothing wow about the food though. I wouldn’t say it was bad but I wouldn’t say it was great either. 4/5 taking into mind food, decor, service and price.
M. D.
Great new Indian street food right in the heart of Cardiff 👌
S. G.
Nice concept, almost tapas style Indian food. Works well with a group of 4, we tried 11 different dishes between us.
The food just wasn’t very good though. A few poor dishes, the majority were ok and a couple were good.
Worth trying, maybe your tastebuds are different (and inferior) to mine. I wouldn’t go back.
T. S.
Had a really great experience here with my family this evening.
The restaurant didn’t take bookings, so had to come in and put my name down on the list, was told to come back an hour later, but I we were told on the phone that it would be busy so it was not a problem - went for a drink across the road first.
We had a nice booth style table, which was great - it’s a beautiful restaurant to be in.
Our server was friendly and really helpful. The dishes are smaller than what you would have at a curry house - but far tastier. I tried the butter chicken, lamb curry and some wings to start, everything was tasty.
The restaurant was a little noisy, but probably just because it was so busy!
Overall had a great evening, will definitely be coming back.
S. A.
Delicious food lovely decor good service but small potion of food
R. T.
Definitely worth checking it out the place for yourself at least once.
The place has really good interiors. They’ve done a great job capturing the essence of Indian street food and fuse it with the global taste palette which is appealing to all. The interiors bring a very nice sitting in a verandah kind of feeling all the while sitting indoors.
d. G.
Service was excellent, food was amazing, atmosphere was great. The ONLY downside was the greedy £10 charge to book a table, I can understand the initial charge but it isn't refundable when you turn up or taken off the bill, how can you justify a £10 booking fee?
P. N.
Genuinely think it's the best Indian I've ever had. So good and fresh. Lovely atmosphere too. Absolutely unreal
M. B.
After waiting months for Mowgli to arrive, I visited on the opening night which is often a night that does not best represent what a restaurant as they're finding their feet is about but Mowgli exceeded all expectations! The decor is beautiful from entrance right through to the toilets, food is so quirky with the freshest most exciting flavours, and the service was impeccable given that the staff were fairly new to the menu. Also, restaurant cocktails are often substandard but the cocktails we tried were fantastic! We will definitely be back, if not before the end of the week! I cannot recommend a place in Cardiff more than this!
M.
Place is nice and clean. Food was good, however, chicken was bit dry which was a let down. Portions where good size.
Please be aware that food doesn't arrive at same time, which we should be made aware prior.
Bit of health and safety bartenders grab open bottles and glasses from the top which means I hope they wash their hands regularly. On the night I've noticed that staff is very relax to the point of drinking coffee behind the bar which wasn't precessional knowing place was busy.
S. M.
Great atmosphere, amazing food, I especially liked the angry chicken. Succulent thigh, with the most delicious seasoning on the crispy skin. The slaw it was served with was also great. This place gets 5 stars from me because they delivered on their advertisement. Great spot and affordable.
F. S.
Quirky seating adds to a great atmosphere and lovely food.
O. G.
Amazing food and service. Third time visiting Mowgli street food Cardiff and I have to say that we can’t wait to go back again. Food is delicious and full of flavours. We love the gunpowder chicken and the lamb curry, but is very hard to chose something as everything looks fantastic. Food is presenting lovely and the decor is chic but not over done and cocktails are tasty too. Thanks to Miguel and Andy for looking after us. Keep up the good work.
D. H.
Loved our experience of Mowgli's. The food was exceptional, very tasty. Service was great too.
C. M.
Gluten free and dairy free (as well as vegan) options. Absolutely delicious, and priced pretty well. Would definitely come here again.
P. J.
Exceptional food, friendly and helpful service. You cannot eat at a better place in the city.
Really loved it and definitely recommend Mowgli. Please open a restaurant in Berkshire!!!
F. B.
Been here a couple of times now and can thoroughly recommend it. Food has a great flavour and the staff are courteous and efficient. Still working through the menu and it's a pleasure! Not really what I'd call a curry house, seems to draw on various curry style dishes from countries around the world.
M. D.
Had an awesome lunch with partner and two friends, and our beautiful Labrador dog friend. We sat on the swings table, Lea the staff that took out orders was super accommodating with the dog and very knowledgeable of the menu, explaining everything to my friends that have never been to any mowgli. The food came out as it was ready which takes the pressure off of waiting for this or that particular dish, you just start sharing and eating. Loved the devout loved the concept and the service and food were a fresh and good addition to Cardiff outing scene. Definitely recommend attending
J. P.
The food was so good that we barely exchanged words during the meal. Lovely atmosphere, staff and choice of dishes that were served promptly. Due to the popularity of the restaurant, the tables felt a bit cramped together and it was difficult to get in and out of the booths... already in need of a bigger premises, perhaps? 😆
P. L.
Very different food to what is offered in other Indian restaurants. Excellent flavours and presentation. Well worth a visit
N. A.
Fantastic food and great decor. Friend said it was the best Indian food he'd had for ages and he's travelled extensively in India. The tiffin tins are excellent value and you need nothing more than perhaps a roti. Nice to have a surprise too.The only negative point is the noise but there were two large groups in on the evening we went.
J. S.
Highly recommend this venue, exceptional food, great atmosphere, staff are very knowledgeable and accommodating. Without doubt we will return when next in Cardiff.
D. H.
Fantastic food, can't wait to return
J. T.
I had a great date night here with my girlfriend tonight, we shared a tiffin sharer box - so weren't sure what curry we were going to get - all lucky dip apparently! Couldn't tell you what we ate but it was all really nice.
Beers were a little expensive, but everywhere in town is now.
Will definitely come back again to try some more dishes.
j. D.
Loved it the meal was fantastic. Definitely going back as soon as I can.
D.
Lovely surroundings very tranquil. The plate size foods are very big 2 plates are plenty, else you will find yourselves wasting food.
R. S.
Very nice!
M. H.
Have visited Mowgli Street Food a number of times now and have never been disappointed.
A wonderfully put together menu with loads of character and variety. Every dish is consistently packed with flavour and the novelty of starters like the 'Yoghurt Chat Bombs' makes dining with friends a joy.
I'm a fairly staunch meat eater, but this is one of the few places I'd be happy to order all vegetarian (and recommend to my veggie friends). If you're a fan of a fish curry, I can personally recommend the Goan Fish Curry as one of the best I've tasted. It's The perfect place to visit with friends, as you'll constantly find yourself asking "Can I try some of yours?" due to the array of dishes and flavours which inevitably fill the table.
The decor is gorgeous, too. On entry you're graced with a luxury cantina-style seating arrangement, fairy lights a-plenty and swing seats for customers lucky enough to get them. Ideal for mates and dates alike.
Delicious and stylish with a warm welcome from the lovely staff. I can't wait for my next visit.
C. A.
Amazing food. Awesome, authentic flavours. Outstanding service. Highly recommend for an amazing dining experience.
s. f.
Really good food, just a bit slow coming out.
S.
The setup of the restaurant is unique and authentic although I found it quite noisy which made it a challenge to have a discussion or talk as it was very difficult to hear. It seems that the restaurant has very poor acoustic which negatively impacted our experience.
Best to go off peak time. There is a discretionary £1 donation to their chosen charity that is added to the bill without asking the customer first. It is assumed that it is agreed. I had to request before hand not to add it.
The food however was very delicious, it had the right amount of spices, just enough salt, not oily and it was authentically served in a stainless steel tiffin. Really good Indian food felt more homecooked. We ordered a vegan thali and the chef gave a variety of curries. They have a separate vegan menu.
For the food alone I'd have given a 4 star rating but the poor acoustic and adding donations without prior asking is not cool.
G. J.
We had a selection of starters and mains and shared.
Every dish we had was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
J. L.
The good points:
It looks great
The yoghurt chat bombs
The jeweled paneer/roti
The espresso martini
The rest of the food was fine, nothing out of this world. Wouldn't bother with the cheese on toast, it's just cheese on toast and the swing seats are terrible unless you want to eat like a T-Rex. The staff are a bit too casual and over-familiar for my liking.
Over all though, I enjoyed it and would recommend a visit.
c. a.
Amazing food, plenty of gluten free options. We ordered 3 dishes and one Tiffin (surprise dishes), and we ended up with 2 dishes the same, and without hesitation they swapped it for another dish. Great atmosphere.
O. G.
Very good food but would be nice to have more variety in meat options as most dishes were just a variation of chicken.
E.
The food was absolutely incredibly and there is no doubt about that. However the 2 seater tables are far too close together and if you are sat against the wall you cannot get out without your rear end hanging over the next table. Same goes for those sitting next to you. It gave the feeling that extra table covers were crammed in which detracted from the overall experience.
Otherwise I would have given 5*
P. o. T.
The most delicious Indian food. We loved it so much for dinner we went back for lunch the next day too!!
M. T.
Great atmosphere, welcoming staff, delicious/fresh sauces, variety of drinks. Cuts of meat and paneer were average though.
J. D.
Good place, helpful waiting staff served a table of 8 with no problems. Food was good, had the Super Green Pho. The right balance of noodle to stock and a good bite to the pak choi. A little expensive for a work lunch but not for the portion size. A lunchtime menu may be useful but the entire party enjoyed their food.
D. R.
Really nice atmosphere, lovely food, would make an ideal lunch on my next visit, will return.
R. H.
Small dishes to combine into a delicious meal. Start with two unless you are seriously hungry. The G&T is a little too sour, but for the rest absolutely great. A good place to eat again soon!
M. D.
Came here with some friends on the opening week. Was super excited as I've heard about Mowgli in Mancheater. The place is dog friendly so my friends dog was able to join us. The layout of the place is fun and interesting. I love the rope swing seats! The cocktails are really interesting and were amazing. The Chai rum and the rose lychee were my favourite. The food menu is set so you can have lots of small Tapas-style dishes (best for sharing) or a large main meal. The chat bombs which were an amazing way to start the meal. All the food was made to perfection. It is not your typical curry house type of food. My favourites were the hymalayan cheese toast, the house lamb curry and the gunpowder chicken. I also like the fact they have vegan equivalents of everything on the menu so vegans aren't left with just a couple of options. Overall a fantastic place and will definitely go again.
T. M.
If you haven't been, GO! Love the decor! And the food is amazing! Book now!
M. R.
Beautiful restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. Food was all delicious. Will definitely be back.
N. F.
Upon entering the restaurant and being offered the opportunity to sit on a swing bench, it dawned on me that unfortunately Mowgli might be a novelty restaurant. Staff were v friendly, but more alarm bells started ringing when we were (twice) asked if we needed the menu explaining to us 😣 Following an interminable delay (we were there at around 15-16:00 so the place was half empty) the food did eventually arrive and was really quite ok. Paneer curry was trembo and overall it was quite delicious, save for a slightly phoned in potato curry.
F. R.
Awesome.
It's different from the "typical" Indian restaurant as they serve the food in a street-style-ish way, really ambient light and incredibly nice staff ;)
(some may consider it a little noisy but in that way it's not different from most other restaurants I've been to in Cardiff)
K. K.
Great place for Indian food
S. D.
Amazing place great authentic food in a beautiful setting, recommend a visit. Staff very friendly and helpful
A. M.
Amazing new venue in Cardiff.
We had the House lamb curry, Goan fish curry and Lamb chops. Authentic and tasty Indian cuisine at an affordable price
Would recommend highly
M. A.
The place looks great. food is v good, but not amazing. Service v friendly, but it was busy and, as such, a few things let them down; forgot to give us menus and served warm beer...Overall, definitely worth a visit and a welcomed addition to Cardiff's culinary scene.
K. C.
I have visited Mowgli on my last four visits to Cardiff, & I'm looking forward to my next meal here when in Cardiff later this month. I always receive such a warm welcome from the staff who are extremely efficient & wonderfully friendly. On my first visit, I had a luscious mango lassi, then the Goan fish curry with roti. Superb! Beautifully spiced with a good quantity of fish. The treacle & tamarind potatoes have become a huge favourite: so mouth-wateringly delicious! But I must say that I've not been disappointed by anything I've ordered. When the food arrives at your table in the beautiful tiffins, it doesn't look very much, but I find the quantities more than sufficient, & it means I can order a selection of dishes. If you haven't yet eaten here, I urge you to go. I don't think you'll be sorry you did.
S. B.
Loved it, and brummie lass who showed us to our table was great, really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere was chilled
E. B.
We have been to Mowgli in Manchester a few times so knew we would love the food once again. The Cardiff restaurant was very warm, friendly and welcoming, the staff were really nice and attentive.

Average food. Nothing great. Definitely not worth it for the price. I have had better takeaway food.
C. E.
Great food and service. Would recommend
S. K.
Best Indian restaurant I have been to, maybe ever. There was a 90 minute wait for a Friday night, and we and other people waited. It was well worth it!
C. C.
Gorgeous food. Lovely and cosy atmosphere with all the fairy lights.
Just wish we had a swing seat!
A. G.
Fantastic...! Food was super tasty, we'll be back.
J. R.
I went with my girlfriend and we found the lights walking down had some drinks and the indian menu just got us in, the gunpowder chicken and the monkey wrap oh my god cannot understand how good they made it. The servers were amazing lili and Miguel served us they knew the menu and have us all the advice. I will be a mowgli fan from now

I went to mowgli Saturday night, it was hard to get in because it is so busy but it was so worth it, we went for cocktails and a few small plates, we all paid £23 which for a Saturday night out was super cheap and such good food, amazing Leah who served our table.
H. M.
Brilliant menu well executed full of authentic flavour with clever touches. Just need NAAN !! , Also felt Indian Street food should always have chai on menu

Don’t come here if your male and hungry food is of good quality , but tiny portions and overly expensive, just calling it tiffin street food in no way makes up for it

(Translated) This is delicious. The unique seasoning, such as seafood curry, makes it addictive. Japanese people tend to go to the pizza shop next door or Spanish food nearby. Is this the influence of the guidebook?

ここは美味しいです。シーフードのカレーなど、独特の味付けでクセになります。日本人は隣のピザ屋や近くのスペイン料理に流れがちなのですが、ガイドブックの影響でしょうか?
