Went here on a Friday and had a lovely meal! I’m vegan and there was lots of choice. I really like that their menu is mostly vegetarian. Everything was really tasty and good quality. The wine was lovely too, they didn’t have many beer options available though. The only thing we weren’t keen on was the honeycomb pieces on the chocolate ganache was too soft and chewy and not crunchy, but still tasty. The service was really good, very friendly staff. It’s a small restaurant so they do stand nearby but means they are very attentive. Will definitely be returning to try more things, prices were reasonable.

We opted for the £20 (vegetarian) and £25 (non-vegetarian) à la carte menu and we feel it was fab value for money and the wine pairing was really well chosen and delicious. Service was excellent and a perfect balance of informative and friendly. I recommend ordering a plate of house bread and butter as it allows you to mop up all the delicious sauces! Will make sure to come again and try another of the monthly menus.

Great seasonal menu with new dishes all the time. Excellent selections of wine and such great service.

Lovely place for a special occasion. Food close to fine dining. For an eclectic taste.

Small, but well formed. Options for meat eaters. Reasonably priced for what are quite intricate dishes, but they aren't huge, so the experience is like a tasting menu or tapas. Natural wine was good; both reds and whites seem reasonable. I'd go again.

I love the way this place runs. Small, rustic & intimate. And that carries into the food, 10 "small plate" style dishes on the menu a few deserts and a few starter-like dishes. I went with two friends and we ordered pretty much one of everything on the menu, with the exception of 1 dessert if I remember correctly.
A couple of the standouts on my visit:
The home made bread! A good crust, a light char flavour and super soft and airy on the inside. Really quite nice.
Jerusalem Artichoke! With a pungent lemon pesto and artichoke crisps. I think what stood out the most in this dish was the lemon pesto, not at all what you are expecting but a very welcome addition to a simple plate of primarily earthy flavours. A must try in my opinion.
The Stuffed Cabbage! Shredded savoy cabbage, caramelised onions, a shed tone of butter and flavour. Wrapped in the outer leaves of the savoy and served with an uber rich red wine sauce and crispy onions.
Jansens Temptation! What I can only describe as an amped up dauphinoise, layered potato and white fish, cooked in cream and garlic and finished under the grill with lashings of butter for a much appreciated crisp texture alongside the softer layers.
between the 3 of us we hade around 15 dishes across the entire menu and a few glasses of wine and our bill came to around £145 which for me, is a great price to pay for what is essentially a laid back tasting menu full of the hearty winter soul food you crave at this time of year. A great place for couples or a few friends who appreciate good food.
Overall a exemplary experience and I'll definitely be back for more.

Some great flavours I hadn't experienced together before. I could tell that the ingredients were thoughtfully selected for each dish.

There's lots of positives about nook and its a really lovely place with excellent wine and staff. But we felt that the food was very expensive for what it was and despite spending quite a lot on our meal we left hungry and disappointed.

Food is absolutely delicious! Small-ish portions but reasonable prices. I liked the cozy atmosphere.

Brilliant little place. Dropped into the pop-up in Rhiwbina for dinner and was blown away by the quality of the food. Fine dining plates, but with none of the pretence; the staff were jolly and attentive and the service was quick.
I hope they open up full-time in our neck of the woods one day, and if not, will definitely be making the trek to Canton to visit the flagship.

Exceptional food and fantastic service. Will definitely be coming back here.

Recently experienced Nook By The River! What a great evening - the scenery was beautiful, staff were extremely attentive and passionate. The food was well balanced and I loved that there was only 1 meat option - as a veggie, it was good that they focussed on making vegetarian dishes the star of their show! Looking forward to a return evening at their restaurant!

Loved all the dishes we had,:turbot, cabbage dish, tempura courgettes, tomatoes with straciatella, smoked fish pate all faultless. This was all followed with a strawberry dessert and a large helping of Gorgonsola cheese. All were excellently executed and excellent value. The service was charming and efficient. Thank you.

Wow what a great restaurant. Just what Victoria Park needed. The food is really amazing. The wine is different but actually really good. Just be prepared to test your taste buds. Will definitely return very soon

Fab place! Really friendly and helpful staff and a gorgeous atmosphere. We had delicious food, I’m vegan and had no problem choosing dishes but they also made some of the veggie dishes vegan for me too! The wine was delicious too! Went last week and heading back again this weekend. Highly recommend.

Just finished our first Nook takeaway. It DID NOT last long. All very delicious! Loads of vegan choices. Especially loved the tahini sprouts and celeriac.

Being a Vegan, sometimes it's difficult to find a place that offers something for everyone. But the food here honestly made me go MMM. The wine is from an independent shop in Cardiff, which makes it feel all the more local. Beautiful food and beautiful atmosphere with great hosting. Highly recommend and miss it already!

Food was amazing - highlights were brussel sprouts and celeriac, neither of which sounded *that* good on paper, but everything was delicious. Also well priced! Desserts weren't as good as the savoury, so may skip those in future. It'd be great to get more music, dimmer lights, and warmer temperatures in there... but with food this good, we'll return regardless. water glasses were a bit like drinking from a plant pot, BUT STILL, doesn't really matter.

Tasteful selection of food, a must visit for Cardiffians

Amazing food and service. A table was not available when we arrived but a friendly member of staff took our details. After a quick drink in the Victoria Park pub a table became available. Our food was amazing and the service was fabulous. We will 100% be returning. Diolch Nook for a lovely evening.

The main courses are amazingly good. The wine is quite pricey and wasn't quite to our taste. It's a shame you can't book which makes it difficult if you have kids and are more restricted on your time. We will try and go back though 😀👍
T. B.
Excellent for food highly recommended service informal and friendly and looks out over Victoria Park and small plates of deliciousness 3 placed together a meal of delight rest down to company you keep

Had a great meal at Nook's tonight (13th October). Didn't really know what to expect as never been before but thoroughly enjoyed the food and would go back. Small dishes but filling. Staff friendly. Lovely atmosphere. A**

-We went to Nook for Sunday lunch as it’s right by where we live and we were excited to try it.
-We ordered the tomatoes, burrata, pressed potatoes with truffle, aubergine ragu, smoked fish balls, and the beef. For dessert we had the crumble and the lemon curd dessert.
-The food completely blew us away and actually exceeded our expectations. The seasoning and balance of flavours was spot on. We especially enjoyed the tomatoes, the pressed potatoes and the desserts, although everything was delicious.
-We tried a glass of a red and a white wine and both were good. The only feedback I would suggest for the wine is that it would be helpful if on the wine list it specifies whether the wine is red, white or rose, and gives the alcohol content too.
-Our waitress was Bryony and she was lovely; Helpful and friendly without being over the top or overbearing.
- Thank you Nook for a brilliant lunch, we will certainly be returning!

Food quality and service was very good. The items priced above £10 are substantial portions and are not "small plates ". Our 3rd visit. Will go again.
