Reviews of Pillars

Breakfast was smashing and excellent value. Coffee also first class. Nice to see the place busy on a weekday morning. The jewel in the crown was plum tomatoes on fried bread.
C. W.
Never been here before but was recommended to try and WOW what a great find, considering its a restaurant in the middle of a city the food was fantastic and very cheap, although I was there at breakfast time and they were only doing breakfast at the time I will definitely return at a lunch/evening time to try the main meals all which sounded fantastic and also very reasonably priced

Visited today with my partner and son. I’ve lived in Cardiff for over 40 years and have never been in pillars, despite hearing so much about it over the years. This place is a true Cardiff institution. Sure, the decors is, like stepping back in time, but I think that’s part of the experience, nostalgia can be heart warming. The food was tasty, wholesome and good portion sizes. It was good value for money and the restaurant is spacious and comfortable with all the necessities for young children to dine. Long May Pillars stay a Cardiff institution
R. C.
Great place for a good food. Self service so quick and lots of seating. Prices are very reasonable, especially given its location.
A. W.
I like to come for the steak and kidney pie because I can't get it anywhere else. This is a good place to eat. It lacks atmosphere but it offers reasonable food at a reasonable price, and the staff are always really helpful. I like it here and recommend it.

I gave this review 3 stars simply because the place is so out dated and run down and is in desperate need of renovation. However, the food is always AMAZING! The portion sizes are HUGE, there is such a wide variety of different meals and lovely desserts and the prices are amazing to for what you get. Been coming back here for years!
P. S.
Definitely not what I expected. The food was amazing and cheap in price. The portions were generous. By the time we ordered and paid our food was bought out so we weren't waiting long.

Pillars provides a no frills breakfast menu that has a choice of items and caters for vegetarians. Me and my partner chose the option to have nine items each which included eggs, vegetarian sausage, mushrooms and beans.
We felt that the meal was ok, apart from the mushrooms which were cooked without seasoning. However, that aside the portions were decent and its a cost effective breakfast choice, as with a hot drink it came to approx £15 for both of us.
We had to give our cutlery a once over as it appeared that they were not properly cleaned. However there was no problem with the crockery
.

Absolutely fab food and portion sizes as well. I had lasagne and chips just like it was when I used to go when I was a kid. Girls I was with had steak and Kidney homeade pie chips and peas the chunks of steak looked lovely and the meat was so tender. In fact one of the girls said it was the best steak and kidney pie she had ever eaten. Will be back and won't leave it so long between my next visit.
K. H.
Having only previously sampled the buffet breakfast we decided to try out the lunch menu and it didn't dissappoint, they offer a £5 plate option on certain foods and the rest was reasonably priced aswell. Comfortable seating and atmosphere. Also where we were sat was like there was a slight breeze and considering we were underground, this made it feel alot more comfortable. Will definitely visit again.
T. L.
Staff mask up which I appreciate. Food is cafeteria style, not much gluten free options. Self service, lots of tables well spaced out. Not the place for great food though. Not likely to visit again.
T. N.
This is a great place to go. Reasonable prices for a breakfast and quiet away from the hustle of the town. Its worth the visit and good customer service.
E. J.
Lots of meat grill served fresh on grill fork . Until you are bursting. £50 for 2diners. Unlimited with drink.
If you are a beefeater. This is your place.
A. B.
Visited many times always great food !! Always feel a friendly place very fast pace with service !! No lift so wheelchair users or pram gona have issues .
P. H.
Had a lovely breakfast but need to speed up on providing drinks and payment as food gets cold quickly if you are hanging around.
s. (.
Friendly staff. Very cheap food but also not the greatest quality. Food could be warmer. Good customisation options for breakfast. Place feels very old. Untouched by time. A place where old regulars go
J. B.
Try the Steak & Kidney pie, wow superb and plenty of it with chips and peas. Can't fault them and great price.
m. a.
Like always lovely breakfast , veggie sausage and eggs are my favourite one. Place is is old dated but friendly atmosphere
Z. H.
A family favourite. Gets busy till 3pm.food nice as mostly homemade.
C. T.
Quantity over quality, this use to be a great place to eat but prices have crept up and standards have dropped. Still worth a visit but the place is starting to look a little dated and in need of a refurbishment.
W. S.
Can't believe this place was still going. The place haven't changed a bit and the 5 and 8 breakfast menu is still running after 30 years loved it we be back
S. M.
Cheap meals with large portions. Big selection and fast service. However cleaning standards were very poor.
R. J.
The food was lovely and the staff were attentive.
A. C.
In a huge basement with stairs access - one way system with another staircase for exit during Covid. Huge quick serve menu on wall boards. Plenty of helpful staff - quick service despite being very busy. Good food at reasonable prices. Good vibe in restaurant.
S. C.
You can always rely on Pillars for a great lunch. Their salads are the best!
G. W.
Spacious sitting area with plenty of room to keep your shopping bags close and near the food I had was basic and reasonable for the price. Will most definitely make another visit on my next trip to the city centre.
H. D.
Consistently good family run restaurant I've been lucky to visit all of my life. Never disappoints and, as it turns out, the best kept secret on rugby internationals day!
C. E.
Excellent breakfast, plenty of variety, staff always helpful.
P. S.
Every member of staff said hi to me as I walked in. Breakfast of good standard and competitive price. If you’re hungry in Cardiff Town center, want to avoid a chain and after good value come here! Also serve loads of lunch/dinner options.
N. J.
Always a great meal here, the staff are always friendly and helpful. If I go to Cardiff shopping this is where we have lunch.
I. b.
Very nice fish and chips. All the food looked good and it was inexpensive
A. B. (.
Been coming here since I was a kid and my sister in law had never been despite being Cardiffian herself! Foods options are plentiful and you can't make a bad choice! Sisinlaw was really impressed and shocked as to why she had never been before!
K. S.
Good selection of food, reasonably priced and tasty 😊
S. B.
I visited this place as it was the only restaurant in Cardiff that had Beef Stroganoff unfortunately it barely resembled one it tasted completely different no pasta option with it.
Other than that nice employees and nice atmosphere and decent prices.
M. E.
Good quality and reasonably priced food in the city centre, this place hasn't changed at all but it doesn't need to! Loved our lunchtime meal.
P. M.
Food good could do with a good clean tho
D. A.
Good place for food, fairly priced too. Staff, friendly and helpful. Will definitely go there again. Try it for yourself 😊
D. C.
Pillars is a nice place because the staff are friendly and the food is lovely and it has a lovely atmosphere and it is self service and I enjoyed my breakfast
M. D.
Excellent service good size portions & lower prices on certain meals after 2-00pm.Plenty of room & a lovely atmosphere..
T.
Love this place. Quality food. Top notch atmosphere 👌 I'd have it every day if I wasn't such a fat c##t.
s. p.
Very nice but it need the food to hot not warm
M. R.
Absolutely fantastic place, food very nice and staff very friendly
S. R.
Huge dine in space, quick service, menu and food.
H. W.
Food wasn't quite hot enough for me, but it was ok
d. a.
Food was excellent as always and didn't have to wait too long as was very busy
K. B.
Great food. Covid rules being followed all the way. A great safe experience
M. B.
Dissapointed..2 pieces chicken in my curry albeit 2 small pieces..not consistant with people wearing face masks for covid either.
J. K.
People were not keeping to social distance nobody prompted anyone to adhere to the guidelines.
The food was not the best to be honest
The eggs were under cooked and had egg shells in one of them.
we missing the beans and mushrooms from our meal and bacon
The manager offered complementary tea as a way of saying sorry but we never got it.
J. s.
Really nice place to go and grab food. Mind blowingly secret gem of Cardiff. The breakfasts are impeccable. And the interior is that of a ww2 bunker. Very cool
P. “. Z.
Good food good value quaint atmosphere. Well laid out covid precautions.
A. S.
Great food great service meal arrived before I even sat down. Table cleared and cleaned by very pleasant staff. 😊
G. L.
A nice, convenient, reasonable value eaterie is Pillars on Cardiff city-centre's Queen St. You can get a glass of wine or perhaps a bottle of beer with your food here too.
D. A.
A great place for breakfast if in Cardiff for a few days, choice of 5,7,9 or 12 items at a very good price. Will definitely be going back when next in Cardiff
P. B.
We'll run, helpful staff, epic atmosphere, epic match, history made!
M. M.
Good service and food as usual.
A. G.
Lovely food good variety, reasonably priced they do a children's menu too.nice clean and spacious, staff pite and helpful.
C. M.
Good value. Nice place. Will go again.
k. C.
Although mine were the only children in here, I think they tolerated us quite well. Food was amazing and having not visited in years, not much has changed thankfully. Definitely my go too brunch place when in town.
C. M.
Wow what a menu. Very reasonable prices. Service excellent
M. D.
Fantastic breakfast and very reasonably priced
M. B.
Been here a couple of times. Traditional English food piled high on your plate for a reasonable price. It does feel like a throwback, but in a positive way. The older generation especially will love it, but other ages will too if they want lots of filling food for under a tenner. Hope it keeps going, as places like this are rare. Found it clean, comfortable, relaxed, although queue at busy times.
C. C.
I have been going here since I was about 10 years old when my mum used take me. The food is as good as it was then and the staff all work very hard. The management are always on view and often help when very busy. My only criticism is one I have always had and that is it is not accessible for people with wheelchairs or other severely disabled people. But, putting that aside, if you are looking for a good hearty meal for a very reasonable price, in a family run business (very rare these days) then I would advise you to go here. It beats a burger or fatty chicken.
A. T.
Wow didn't know about this place till my wife said about it she goes here since she was a kid amazing food staff nice works fast would really would recommend here
J. C. “. E.
Had a breakfast on 6nations day and while it was okay, it was nothing to write home about.
A. K.
A good old fashioned cafe serving good food at sensible prices. We always visit on a match day at the nearby stadium.
S. B.
Fantastic place recommended by friends.
Always come here on rugby match days for decent food.
Old fashioned grab a tray & walk along display. Always busy but fast service. Great selection of food available, hot & cold with large portions.
Unfortunately it's a cellar setting & only accessible by stairs. But see families with buggies negotiating them so must be well regarded.
Give it a try!
x.
As always, fantastic. Fantastic food for some of the best prices you can find in Cardiff. It makes me so happy every time I go to Pillars, as it hasn't changed since I was a kid, when we used to go on a Saturday with my grandparents. Friendly, helpful staff.
P. J.
Great value, good food, friendly and helpful staff. The all day breakfast is very substantial
J. J.
Very good value for money and tasty meals. But very very tired decor and furniture.
J. H.
If you went here in the early 90s and loved it, then the chances are you'll still love it as this place has hardly changed. The prices have increased with inflation, but the food is still just as good as it always was. Don't know how disabled people get in or out because of the steps up and down.
L. D.
Been coming here since i was small..Lovely food but I find the portions are always small, there's not much difference between an adult portion and a child's. The Staff always look miserable and barely acknowledge you. No manners at all. Decent prices and deco a bit dated. But I do always enjoy my food 👌
J. B.
Always a pleasure going here. Choices for cooked breakfast are excellent. Staff are v helpful.
I'm high risk for Covid but i feel safe enuf here
D. M.
Nice large portions of food, great value for money. Had fish & chips from a large list of 2 meals for £12.90. There are other menus/ specials. To use the loo you much ask the staff for a key code which changes so only diner's can use them.
M. C.
Great food, fantastic prices, very friendly & helpful staff, perfect for my family especially if like me you are on a set budget after a family shopping trip into Cardiff. Plenty of choice for my very fussy children. What a gem glad we found this place, it was recommended to us by a friend who eats there on a regular basis.
L. M.
Not sure what the person below is talking about regarding the menus. They're quite obviously displayed with adequate descriptions and clear pricing. This place is great, we came here two mornings in a row for the 12 piece full English that allows you to pick whatever you like (£5!). Coffee is great too, staff generally quite friendly and welcoming, loads of seating, all the condiments you need and a relaxing atmosphere! Good value for money if you're looking for a simple, quick breakfast, and the cakes and lunch options looked decent too.
d. m.
Excellent food friendly staff inexpensive and would highly recommend it
L. L.
Been going there for over 30 years but I must admit today I was very disappointed as I took my vegan daughter with me and there wasn’t one single vegan dish on offer. Only thing they did was an all day breakfast with vegetarian sausage. Pillars need to move into modern times this was quite appalling considering so many people are now vegan.
C. S.
Great place for something quick and easy to eat. Nice quality food
N. H.
Gone here since I was little, lovely food, very affordable! Never once had a problem, staff are lovely!
D. L.
Classic Cardiff grub. No nonsense.
The decor is so dated it is chic! The food is really nice. It is a old fashioned restaurant. You don't find them like this anymore. This place should be in the tour guides. It really is fab!!
h. j. e.
Glad you back open come here all the time
R. D. G.
It'd be easy to write this off as an anachronism, a throwback to the 80s. Ultimately, for the same reasons, its a historic gem in the middle of Cardiff.
It offers some of the best value for money eating in the city centre and, if you remember it in its heyday, a bit of nostalgia.
Steep stairs down. Not sure about accessible access. Toilets - ladies need a code.
Great breakfasts and two for one deals. Friendly service.
B. M.
Love this place food is always fresh service with a smile and I can get fish fingers beans and chips win-win
W. H.
Probably the best value breakfast l have ever had. Would highly recommend.
G. T.
I love Pillars. My husband brought me here on our 2nd date (which was a shopping trip) 16 years ago and I feel very sentimental and nostalgic about it. The decor is very retro and old school, which sets it apart from any other cafe or restaurant in Cardiff. The menu is wide-ranging but very unpretentious & reasonably priced. The place can get very busy during peak hours but is much quieter in the early and later hours of the day.
D. O.
Good food and good service mostly apart from a rather large dark haired man in a white shirt, possibly the manager. Was extremely rude and told me I couldn't have a toasty as it was too early. It was only then after deciding not to have anything and my partner questioning as to why I could not have a toasty another member of staff told me that it was just chicken that I couldn't have, the man then turned to them and bluntly said you deal with them and walked off halfway through taking my order. I felt this was completely unnecessary as he simply could have just said I couldn't have chicken but could choose something else in my toasty. However he was clearly too lazy and could not be bothered and would rather his customer go without. Such a shame as the rest of the staff were lovely and extremely helpful. Unsure of whether to return if future experiences are going to be similar.
E. f.
Was not expecting much but my sister dragged me in here. Veggie options was very good and the vegetable lasagna was lovely but no disabled access made it hard for our mother to navigate the stairs and the way it's all layed out, there was some shoving so was forced to be a wall to protect said mother from being jossled
B. D.
The food was excellent, a great price and a huge portion, the only thing was that it was not quite as hot as I would like. The staff were friendly and helpful. The place is a little outdated and the toilet required a pass to get into which I found a bit difficult to do. I would recommend though as it was a fantastic meal at a great price.
S. T.
Awesome biggest restaurant I have seen in Cardiff. Friendly staff . 50+ varieties of menu. Beef burger starts 1.75 coffee at 1.95 Its economic bright clean n maintained well. Interesting ly silent from outside since it's in basement. Chicken gravy with rice n chips was best .. non spicy so kids enjoyed too
K. H.
Great food and very good value for money.
F.
I remember coming here when I was 7. That was over a decade ago, and it's just as good as it was back then. The increase in prices has left the place a little bit more empty, but you get a lot of bang for your buck. 12 item breakfast for £5.35 is so worth it.
J. J.
Nice food great prices not our first visit and definitely not our last .
D. M.
Lovely food excellent service got what I asked for even though wasn't on the menu thankyou clean constantly each table with social distance in place
M. W.
Always clean and tidy, amazing value for home cooked food that tastes amazing. Our goto place for food in Cardiff!
S. B.
A hidden gem. Food is delicious at very good prices. Can't go jbti Cardiff without a visit, even if it's just for coffee, but you have to try their homemade steak and kidney pie.
j. W.
Good value breakfast
N.
Moderately priced. Excellent food. Great service. Decor somewhat dated but I eat here regularly. A pleasant place to grab a decent lunch while shopping in Cardiff city centre.
D. C.
Still as lovely all these years later. I used to come in my teens now I ring my children who also love it here
R. F.
Cant beat value for money. Vast array of dishes, most cooked to order. Large seating area
D. “. B.
We visit pillars when ever we take our kids (3 + 4) to town. The food is great value and served hot and quickly. Only given a. Four star as they always seem under staffed and the tables are not always cleaned ready for new customers
P. T.
Large cafe/restaurant loads of food on offer, not expensive 😊
J. P.
Food is fab!, the aura is a bit like going back to the 70's in some respects bit I mean this in a good way.
The dining area is unique with a Mediterranean feel, food was brill and the value excellent.
K. R.
Had fish and chips, the fish was cooked beatifull
c.
A great restaurant in the heart of Cardiff. Food is awesome value and is always fresh. Quick service and plenty of seating available. You wouldn't take someone there for a date night though.
L. J.
Quick and easy.
Food was delicious as I remember
My partner have never been until yesterday and he enjoyed every spoon full of his lasagna
R. M.
Consistent good quality and value. More choice of vegetables would be nice but that's true of most pub type menu's. Decor a little tired but adds character I guess!
d. m. c.
Lovely fresh food at a moderate price, (after all, you pay for what you get!) very friendly helpful staff, nothing is too much bother for them. Very clean and pleasing surroundings. Definitely worth a visit, hence my 5 stars.
M. C.
Couldn't fault the quality of the food, service was go too. Just a shame the food wasn't a little warmer
A. J.
Great value food and plenty of it.Steak and kidney pie and chips was very tasty, just as i remember it from years ago. It could do with a refurb in a few areas but I wouldn't put that as a negative against the place. I will return!
L. P.
What a find ! Total surprise having descended the steps from Queen Street... opened into a spacious, light, bright and cheerful restaurant. Very laid back, extremely efficient and friendly staff and excellent value, without sacrificing quality.
S. C. (.
Pillars have been around for as long as I can remember and they have not lost any of their reputation. Their food is as nice now as it was over 20 years ago. They also have a great selection of desserts.
D. g.
There is a large selection of cold plate, salad, and hot food choices. The service is on a canteen style where you get a tray and choose your options. The server's will bring plates to your table. The only downside is that there are stairs with no lift/escalator, so for elderly or people who have disabilities may find it difficult.
A. D.
Remember coming here with my parents as a child. It hasn't changed a bit. And now I'm coming with children of my own. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Cardiff. Only flaw I can see is there was no obvious disabled access.
A. H.
Great food at reasonable prices. Lovely staff. My sister and I have been going here since we were teenagers.
N. C.
My family and I have been regulars at Pillars for 10+ years which should probably tell you my opinion of the place. Good food, decent prices and friendly staff. They've recently added some televisions playing BBC News (with the sound off but subtitles on) and free WIFI. They do have a fair selection of alcoholic beverages but it is very much a family/casual place. There is disabled access but you do need to contact the staff to help with that (locked entrance around the corner) but the main entrance does involve a flight of stairs going down. Also there is close to no cell reception (to be expected as the restaurant is underground) but honestly, on a busy Saturday it can be nice to be disconnected from the world for a little while.
R. T.
A hold over from another era that hasn't changed its decor. Ever. Nor should it. Good food, good prices. Great for a light bite. My favourite restaurant in Cardiff.
j. j.
Nice breakfast bit confused wen it comes to numbers of items as its eather big breakfast medium or small proble easier than havein to work out how meny items you need to make a breakfast lol but very nice breakfast
I. A.
Perfect for students as it’s cheap and quick. Reminds me of a school canteen but also provides lots of options. It’s very old school with makes it more authentic. Perfect for a quick snack or a big meal
S. W.
Had a lovely home made cottage pie and chips 🍟 😋
J. K.
Quickly served. Easy to find a seat. Free condiments. Food is basic but just right for a lunch and very reasonable for central Cardiff.
K. U.
Diverse range of food, both cold and hot, served in a canteen like style. Very quick service, good portions, generally cheap and cheerful. Visit here for lunch often!
M. J.
Good food in a very pleasant atmosphere. The staff are pleasant and helpful.
S. N.
Pillars is a staple of Cardiff and ive used it for years. While the choice, quality and value of food, the brilliant presentation and the early 90s decor have been consistent, it has to be said the service has been in decline for a while now and its a shame.
The waiters can be impatient, manors can be limited and its not uncommon to be met by someone at the paydesk with his/her head buried in their phone while the management appear to observe but ignore this behavior.
Pillars may not have moved on with the times, and that's a good thing, but times have changed and with the onslaught of social media and the ability to share experiences so widely and freely, getting customer service right arguably has never been so crucial to the success or failure of a business.
Pillars; take note and read the other feedback, there's a common theme.
P. J.
Nice breakfast. Nice and fast service.nice cup of coffee too, would go again.
s. s.
Great breakfast and great price, friendly staff and clean
M. F.
Great value for money, good vegetarian and vegan selection I had a delicious vegetarian breakfast! Staff are helpful and friendly, lovely place will definitely return
S. D.
Lovely food nice staff great service and prices will be back again.
T. G.
Very reasonable prices, breakfast was quite good but button mushrooms had no taste. Nice restaurant but for an old timer all the stairs are a pain.
H. C.
Love pillars for a quick stop whilst shopping food is reasonably priced and there's always a space. It is a bit canteen like and the decor could do with an update but it's nice all the same.
S. R.
Over priced and almost always cold food.
Not the Pillers I know from old.
C. L.
Food is what it is, fine dining it ain't but it don't cost as much as fine dining either. In serious need of a decor update though, not sure it's been done since it opened in 1977 😁
M. D.
Have always had food here but had a fillet of fish which was just full of bones and I don't mean a few there were loads in there. I thought filleted meant it was de-boned? Will not be having fish again
a. t.
Love this place, decor hasn't been updated in decades but that's part of its charm! Food is nice and good value, customer service is excellent.
J. T.
Good sized meals but very run of mill 'quick' food. Not overly hot either. Cold food better! Convenient to town.
A. N.
I always go here when I'm craving steak and kidney pie with chips, peas and gravy. Good humble grub. I am always tempted to try more of their menu, but I can't resist the pie.
S. W.
Food was nice but a little over priced but you expect that in Cardiff. Staff are helpful but owner talks down to the staff at times. It does get very busy in here especially on a Saturday.
A. V.
Pillars is situation below ground level and its huge down there. Perfect place to go for a bit of decent food on a days shopping. Not fancy but a good place to can take kids or grandparents with a good selection.
S. D.
Love the breakfast here, guaranteed great food everytime and the staff are very helpful and polite. Definitely worth the 5* rating.
H. p.
Really lovely breakfast
Good price
Right near shopping mall
C. H.
Been in pillars a few times with my daughter when visiting her in Cardiff very pleased with the choices of foods in there and would recommend it there's a excellent choice of cold meats and salad, and a lovely choice of hot food as well and all within a reasonable price.
T. W.
Don't know if it was a bad day but chicken curry lacked chicken but in fairness when I pointed it out put some chicken in my curry worth a go this is why I gave 3 stars
N. O.
A little bit of Everything, from dinner to salads, or just a sandwich. Plenty of seating. But definitely not wheelchair friendly, a couple of flights of stairs down to the food court.
M. R.
I have been going to pillars for years. The food always good price fair good selection, alcohol if you need to. not good for wheelchair users as only stairs
N. P.
It's an institution. I don't think anything has changed since the 90's but if you want that retro feel or you're desperately clinging to the pre-internet revolution era, then this is the place for you. I mean, the food's pretty decent otherwise. Good for a lunch, not the place you'd wear a tux or a new girl from Tinder.
D. M.
No airs and graces quality food and cheap, plenty of choice
S. R.
Always good food 😋
J. E.
Sadly seems to have gone downhill, chicken dry, place just seemed dirty. But the charm is excellent and I love it. I hope it was just a busy saturday and an off day
m. g.
Very efficient service social distancing was excellent the only problem was that you didn't have enough salad choices but apart from that everything was great
M. D.
Hadn't been here for a number of years. However, very little has changed. Food was nice, hot and edible.
K. M.
Always welcoming, with a choice of breakfasts that are second to none. I have to go there because my 8 year old granddaughter loves the breakfast soo much.
T. M.
Love the 70s vibe. The staff are good old school people. Food is fresh and tastes amazing.
J. S.
Ordered chips and Cheese/Tomatoe sandwich with salad.
the chips were over cooked and contained too many scrap ends, the salad seemed greasy due to the salad dressing sadly and consisted of one large cucumber slice and a massive lettuce leaf. I dont like the idea with the salads and cooked chicken being on display as you walk in, place it behind a glass screen so no risk of germs being passed from people queing up .
d. w.
Always come here for food when in Cardiff. I've not found anywhere else that serves homemade good food and feeds 2 adults and 2 children for less than £20.
G. H.
Excellent meals at reasonable prices.
S. B.
Well priced food. Excellent selection. The only downstairs is that there is no way to get in with wheelchair etc.
T. P.
Rated 5 star as this place is exactly what it says on the time, it’s cheap, fast service with a range of food for all times of day. It has an old school canteen feel to it, but with wifi
M. H.
Very good service and great quality food for a very good price. Value every time.
t. t.
I have used pillars for years but find this place is not like it used to b i always have the homemade steak and kidney pie took the pie back as full of gristle had a replacement but exactly the same wont return there anytime soon
C. L.
All day breakfasts for me and my son were perfect, wife's cheese and onion toasty not so much.
C. M.
Great food, good prices, considering the amount of food you get. Friendly staff as well
S. L.
Shame it's downstairs but still a great eating place.
J. C.
Full belly for a good price nice selection. clean and friendly
W. S.
Huge choice, massive portions, and extremely good value for money.
S. M.
Hot meal cheap and cheerful 👍👍
J. D.
Fab food .. apectialy steak pie n chips
A. L.
Always been a loyal customer to pillars on my visits to city centre however I have seen a change within the buisness. The food is delicious and at a great price however it's become very quiet.
s. s.
My go to place for breakfast when in cardiff early. Lovely food and a great price. Especially when you think its right in middle of cardiff city centre. Will keep going back for years

You always know what you're going to get. Fast, efficient service and good wholesome food. There is no messing about when it comes to portions you always walk away with a full belly and a smile.
J. F.
This is a regular of ours. The food is nothing fancy but nice. Staff always pleasant and helpful
p. c.
Great place. Wonderful food great prices...
D. E.
Pillars is a classic and a must when visiting Cardiff for a day out. Personal favourites of mine include curry (with half and half ofcourse) and the steak and kidney pie and all for the price of a McDonalds. The dated decor is accidentally retro.
A. C.
Had a fabulous salad at Pillars today . Presentation very good at salad bar.Food was delicious .Had jacket potato on previous visit cant fault the place. Also the staff were very friendly .
Z. C.
Great location for a morning breakfast, cheap and cheerful. Staff were really friendly 😀
A. K.
I found the service to be good and the food really nice. I did find that the decor and furniture a bit grubby. Could do with a refurb.
T. L.
Wonderful food, had an issue with my parters plate but was replaced and brought out by the manager, lovely customer service.
Will return
g. v.
Staff were very rushed but still gave good service. Very good portion sizes
R. G.
Lovely food, helpful staff. Plenty of choice on the menu and I LOVE the corned beef pie!
V. M.
Great value food definitely recommend if you need good value food and plenty to choice from
B. S.
Lovely Food And Cheap And Nice And Cool Air Con
C. W.
It's massive and rather overwhelming with no chance to see what's on menus, nice food but I didn't get what I ordered. I would try it again and be braver and block the queue.
l. m.
Would have been 5 stars if my burger had real cheese on it not the rubber cheese slice. Although thoroughly enjoyed my food and the atmosphere
A. m.
quick and cheap curry wernt the best and had a bone in my partner enjoyed her food.
A. F.
It is a not bad place to go
S. E.
Far too overpriced for what it is. Really cheap food priced at a premium. Place is in desperate need of an update/ refurbishment. Food was ok just far too overpriced.
J. B.
Truly great Steak and Kidney Pie.

Used to be good not now the place has gone downhill.
s. s.
Been going to pillars for 30 years, I love the huddle and bustle of the place. The food is on the whole good, love the atmosphere
A. S.
Standards have slipped over the last few years. It's a shame, Pillars was always a necessary stop when shopping in Cardiff, not anymore.
J. S.
Hadn't been here for a long time but decided to give it another go as we were after something cheap and value for money and this is the place to come if thats what you want. Will return.
g. h.
Plenty of room space , good food at reasonable prices . Helpful staff too . 🥰 Thank You.
A. W.

Friendly staff. Very nice food at a reasonable price. We will definitely come back!

Cardiff shopping for the day . Went in for a bit of lunch . Very helpful staff . Food ok prices cheap
But the carpets where very dirty . Making the whole place feel grubby. Needs updating .
S. G.
Good choice of food and a large place underground in vaults. Can be very busy at times. Reasonable prices.
A. R.
I always visit for lunch when I visit Cardiff good food, with healthy choices, and reasonably priced, wouldn't go anywhere else.
S. J.
Well I find it sad when people complain about your food and services I think your food and service is amazing when in cardiff on Saturday I will be calling in to have an amazing meal and great service I did read your comments which was sad
J.
Staff were tolerable, food was worth what you pay for it (which isn't much), plenty of places to sit (thankfully as far away from other people as you possibly be), you can't hear the noise of the street (given as it's underground), an all round mediocre experience.
z. v.
Wasn't bad food
p. m.
£5.45 for a 12 item breakfast, nice coffee, lots of space and open Sundays
S. R.

This is a great place for an inexpensive meal, there is a wide selection on the menu but it is downstairs so it is difficult for anyone with problems walking to access.
