What we had was great, but would have liked more of a choice and more than one option of dessert - we ended up skipping this as none of us liked the remaining option.
Would return again, maybe not on a Sunday eve.

Staff are lovely and the guy who was playing a live acoustic set was phenomenal, could listen to him for hours!
Our bill was incorrect and was overcharged for some drinks we didnt have but that was rectified by staff.

There were seven of us in the party, we had the table booked for 3 hours. We had the set meal, two of which ordered steak. We were asked how we wanted it cooked, but when it arrived, we were told by the waitress it was a set menu, and they were all cooked the same way. When we advised her we were asked how we wanted it cooked, she rolled her eyes at us; this was not the first time. Several of the waitresses rolled their eyes at us when asked for something.

The cocktails are delicious and the bartenders made requests not on the menu which is a lovely touch. Not an extensive food menu but still plenty of choice and the food is delicious and beautifully presented.
D. C.Easily one of the most beautiful restaurants I have been to in Cardiff! The decor was stunning with its lush greenery and water feature. We had fish and chips and the lamb kofta kebab and they were scrumptious, very affordable and well worth the price. The waitress serving us that day was incredibly friendly and we enjoyed very good service, definitely looking forward to returning for another meal in the coming future!

The quality of the food, the kebabs in particular, was great; and if that was the only metric of review it would have been an easy four or even five stars.
Unfortunately, the almost two hour wait for our main courses and the eardrum shattering speakers sullied the experience. The live music was piped through a 10,000 seater stadium appropriate PA system so loudly that holding a conversation at the table was nigh impossible. Many of the items on the menu were unavailable too, which was disappointing, as we were told only after about half an hour of placing our orders.
The venue itself had outstanding decor, and with the appropriate levels of volume, it could be an exceptional experience.
C. H.Lovely atmosphere, short wait for table and spacious venue. A handful of vegetarian options, would recommend the plant based burger. Went for a friends birthday and they also provided a on the house cocktail for her 😊 the mint areo cookie dough was delicious.
E.Literally the best place in cardiff for brunch. The selection of food is good (albeit few for those with allergies) and the atmosphere / aesthetic of the place is unlike any other

S. P.Great brasserie restaurant in city centre spread out over 3 floors. Romantic and casual feel to the restaurant. Great for an afternoon lunch or romantic dinner. Good for parties as well due to size to restaurant. Service was good and was checked in regularly on how the food was. Food was good and drinks menu is excellent. I’d highly recommend the rooftop garden when the sun is out. Great floor to have food and drinks in the sun ☀️ Definitely would recommend if your looking for a decent brasserie experience.

C.Recently celebrated some friends birthday and took up the jan offer...excellent deal and food was beautifully cooked..service very good...it was very busy and very loud as we had several tables of young men opposite us ..unfortunately it was very cold as the door was left open, but the young lady , who i assume was a manager,listened to our complaint and we were given a free drink in the beautiful garden outside.. she also apologised that we were sat next to the toilet but it had been busy all night....it didn't take away the fact that the meal was excellent value...and we all said we would return again.

S. R.We booked this bar/restaurant for a pre concert meal and drinks. Party of 10 so we reserved the private dining room which was lovely as we had a couple of children with us it felt more appropriate and I would recommend booking that space. The service was fab with all the team being very lovely and helpful.
The roof terrace is a must in the sunshine, cool vibe up there and plenty of seating space.
Decor is cool and funky with lots of foliage and plants around the place which makes a great outdoor feel.
Drinks fine but a bit pricey.
Food was good, not a 5 good but worth a 4. The hot board was my favourite which was great to share and pick at gently whilst sat chatting. Again a but pricey but would go again.

I have a nut allergy and intolerances - with the breakfast you have various sections on the menu and you choose one from each. Several of the sections I couldn't have anything from so was advised I could substitute from other sections. Unfortunately it did mean I'd have to double up, so I opted for less which is why there are less items pictured. I chose the pate, sausage wheel, passion fruit and coconut chia yoghurt and croissant. All were delicious - if I was to recommend any I'd say definitely the pate and sausage!
All in all, I would go there again for breakfast and I'd like to try the evening menu!

However 4 of us went for lunch for a friend's birthday and our experience was very mixed.
We all had the onion petals and dip for starters which was absolutely gorgeous!
3 of us had the kebabs, I'm afraid the chicken was dry and some of the chorizo was solid!
The birthday girl had a chicken burger which was totally inedible. It was changed but by the time it came the rest of us had almost finished our meals. The price of this dish was deducted from the bill. I'm afraid I won't be returning to eat but possibly for drinks.

Shared a single portion of rainbow slaw with wife, this was lovely not too creamy and just enough. Could have eaten one to myself though. Skewers were good value and cooked well. Enjoyed. Popped upto roof terrace bar on way out it looked very nice and wasn't too busy either.

We visited at Christmas last year just for drinks as it was so busy. It was wonderful, a little long at the bar but we couldn't wait to return, so this weekend we were back in Cardiff eagerly awaiting our food this time.
And we waited a long time! The service was terrible, when we finally got our food the girl couldn't even bothered to put the right food in front of each of us and walked off before we could even ask for cutlery! The food was not great either, the 'legendary' kebabs were average and the salad was just 'ok'.
The only decent service we got was a lady who was cleaning other tables and asked if she could get us anything.
All in all very disappointing. Would only return for drinks in future.

The food however is quite average and nothing special. The menu is quite small to start with, and it was disappointing that some items were unavailable, including the scotch egg which I was eager to try. The chicken wings that I got instead were quite plain. The hanging kebab was just a few pieces of halloumi and onions and peppers, served with dry lukewarm chips. The best thing was probably the Lemon Tart I had for dessert.

S. C.After a very unsatisfactory first visit the botanist got in touch to invite us back to sample what they are usually like. This time the food was superb and the service spot on. I don't know what went wrong before however they went out of their way to correct that and my confidence has been restored. I would definitely visit again.

G. T.My husband & I dined here this evening to utilise the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme. It was the decor and design of the place that first drew us in because we're both keen gardners and have a burgeoning interest in botany. The interior certainly lived up to the hype - like eating in a giant Victorian greenhouse.
The service was very attentive and expedient. The menu was, in my view, the perfect size (not too convoluted) with plenty of options for all palettes. The food was fresh, bursting with flavour and very different from any other restaurant we've dined at in the area. I availed myself of the extensive cocktail range and found 'The Botanist' cocktail particularly refreshing and satisfying. The pricing (even without the government discount) is very fair and, in fact, a lot cheaper than many similar range restaurants in Cardiff. I can heartily recommend the Botanist and will undoubtedly be a repeat visitor.

M. Z.Lovely place. Garden interiors remind me of clubs in Bali. The waiter service was very good. When it comes to food, feelings are mixed, but generally good. Kalamari starter was one of the best I've had. The main dish let me down. Roasted pork had an idle taste, but the vegetables were ok. Drinks had beautiful appearance and was also tasty. Deserts: bread & butter pudding delicious, but chocolate browni too sweet. The presentation of dishes on wooden platters goes well with the decor. For me it is a lovely&romantic place for a quick snack and drinks. I recommend.

D.After a slight glitch with our reservation being accidentally cancelled by the restaurant we attended this evening. The restaurant itself is very well decorated and themed and the staff seemed friendly enough. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of food and how well it was presented for the price you pay. The cocktails were also some of the best I’ve ever tasted. The only downsides for us was we were put in a strange green house area of the restaurant which made us feel slightly isolated from the atmosphere. We were also charged a charity fee on the bill, which wasn’t explained too us really.

The Botanist was our 3rd stop of the night and I was so excited about going. It did not disappoint, the staff were friendly and efficient. The drinks were lovely and the atmosphere was relaxed. V. D.The Botanist is a lovely bar/restaurant, but unfortunately, during our visit we found the bar temperature cold. When reviewing drinks on the menu, we were told to ignore the menu as the drinks listed were out of date. We asked for our Gin drinks to have 'ordinary' tonic, despite this, we were told that the only tonic available was Fevertree at an additional premium price.
R. S.Nice atmosphere, nice drinks, not the cheapest but does a good cocktail and also was accommodated when I asked for a cocktail that wasn't on the menu.
Only downside was no snacks allowed in the bar area, so if you get hungry you have to sit in proper food area or leave to get food elsewhere.

Arrived early for our table but was no problem was able to have drinks in the bar etc. Greeting staff were excellent and even came to get us at our booking time even though they had advised us to go back to them.
At the table we waited a while to place our order. We decided on starters and mains but our choices of starters couldn't be fulfilled as had run out. We had to change our main choices too as had run out. Turns out a third of the menu wasn't available at 3pm on a Tuesday afternoon. I fully understand supply chain issues and the ridiculous welsh assembly putting last minute restrictions in place etc but even so it was a very disappointing visit. Food service wasn't it's usual standard either lots of hanging around by food services staff and we unable to get their attention for basics like extra cutlery and table water etc. 😔

A. H.We booked in for food and drinks yesterday to celebrate my parents 30th Wedding Anniversary. The evening was perfect from start to finish. I had requested to bring in some balloons and a cake as a surprise which was set up so beautifully when we arrived and my parents were so happy. All of the staff were absolutely lovely.. nothing was too much trouble for anyone, especially our lovely waiter Lewis who couldn't do enough for us. He is a credit to your restaurant! The selection of food was brilliant and so delicious. The cocktails were amazing and we overall had the best time we've had in a very long time. I can't wait to visit again soon. Thank you so much! We were given a table with plenty of room around it for social distancing. The service was incredible very attentive and efficient. The portion sizes were modest but the food was delicious. It was dark in places but I suspect this adds to the ambiance and the samples of plants with interesting notes which gives the bar its name. On my list to revisit and to recommended to family and friends..for certain.

M.After having eaten here a few times and found the food and the staff excellent I returned here a fortnight ago bringing along very old friends telling them how good we had found everything about the place.Unfortunately this was not to be the case this time round, we ordered three FESTIVE HOT BOARDS as a main course and were told they had run out of them, l ordered a TURKEY AND ALL THE TRIMMINGS HANGINGKEBAB again was told they had run out of them and then to top it up we ordered three WINTER BERRY CHEESECAKE and again were told they had run out of those as well.Now had this have been a Monday and they had just had a busy weekend and had not been able to restock supplies in time one could understand but this was a Wednesday afternoon. I have since contacted the botanist since twice on their site to air my grievances with the automated response that someone in their team will get back to me.This has not happened so I’m not pleased that they can’t be bothered and give me the courtesy of a response.A simple apology would do.

I don't actually remember a lot of what happened but the staff there were absolutely amazing, dealt with the emergency team to ensure I was treated professionally and promptly.
I then received a beautiful bouquet of flowers and chocolates from The Botanist yesterday, how lovely, thoughtful and much appreciated. Would definitely recommend and will be rebooking when I'm well. Thank you xx

They were so accommodating when due to unforseen circumstances we had to cut our party size in half and request a different booking time. The service and food was so good and we were able to sit on the rooftop terrace for cocktails after out meal which we all really enjoyed

Unfortunately the onion petals weren't available on our visit but the garlic bread with mozzarella melted between the slices was probably just as good or if not, better (I guess I'll find out next time).With great service to match I will definitely be booking again given the chance!

G. T.Pretty busy, but that was expected on what appeared to be a very busy afternoon in Cardiff, a few people were turned away as they hadn't booked, so booking is required really.
If you are on the top floor which is really nice there's only a disabled toilet, so otherwise its middle floor walk for you.
The food was nice, though one of our party ordered the chicken burger, and not really understanding what Nori was which was in the burger when it came it tasted salty and of fish, not chicken which in a Chicken Burger wasn't expected, not sure who came up with that idea, I didn't have it and having ordered that I wouldn't have eaten it either. Indeed Nori is Seaweed normally on Sushi, it turned their stomach so they didn't eat it.
Service was a little slow too, staff friendly enough but not very quick returning to the table with drinks, or to take the orders which was a shame as we would have bought more drinks etc. overall very nice let down by a few silly things.

M. R.Seemed like the place was understaffed and over crowded even on a weekday, god knows what happens there on a weekend. Had to ask few times to get updates on our order, my burger was literally unbelievably cold, unfortunately got to the point where I couldn’t be bothered to chase unavailable staff to replace it as I’d wait forever. Sitting at the table by the kitchen staff shouting VERY loudly to waiters to get food out was not pleasant.
O. B.Really nice location and great setting. A wide range of creative and delicious cocktails on offer, but nothing that really wowed me. The food, however, looked and smelt amazing, so I am tempted to return so we can try it.
I understand that things are difficult at the moment due to the pandemic, but at one point we did have to wait 40 minutes for two drinks (one was a beer) after asking three different members of staff.

We were having quite a dull and annoying day until we slugged ourselves in to the Botanist for a drink. We didn’t plan to stay after one but ended up having dinner here and it was LUSH!
The beauty in leopard print and the foxy Blondie with plugs were both devine, kind, fun and friendly and literally went out of their way to make our experience at the Botanist really memorable. 💖 big virtual cutch to you both for making my sisters birthday go from 0 to 100!!
Our go-to’s at most restaurants are calamari and wings, but we couldn’t resist ordering those… PLUS onion petals, cauliflower wings, sea bass and Halumi kebab, bread and cocktails. The only blip of the night was that there was no sea bass left so my sister ordered the lamb pie but still yum. A lot of food for two little ladies 😂.
I must say that you can get variations of those dishes in quite a few places, but you most definitely cannot compare the quality or taste to the botanist. We went from chatting and laughing to stuffing our faces. Hats off to the chefs!
