Fine dining is challenging to do well, from ensuring servers are friendly but not intrusive to serving up food with general appeal whilst pushing boundaries, but the clink excels on all counts. Our server, Francesca, clearly has a bright future in the industry as she trains for a multitude of qualifications. Compassionate, attentive, caring, knowledge and friendly, she enhanced a wonderful experience to perfection. Consideration was given to my pregnant wife's food restrictions, knowledge of the dishes was superb and she ensured excellent communication regarding perceived delays (amendments to orders etc). The food itself was the equal of any elite cooking establishment in South Wales. Superbly presented dishes which had clearly been prepared with care, using the best ingredients which were a delight to eat. Of particular note was the subtle touches which enhanced the flavour profile of each dish, something which can be overwhelming if not done carefully but was executed to perfection. A truly excellent dining experience and one which I would not hesitate to recommend.

This is the second time I've been to The Clink. Although it lack atmosphere I've been assured it as a result of the day we picked. The food is well presented and cooked. Afternoon tea, prepared and served by the inmates. Parked across the road, in the NPC. Excellent disabled access, toilet and restaurant. The restaurant was full and had a great atmosphere, with couples and families. The high quality food coming from the kitchen was fantastic. We had a really nice selection of fresh sandwiches and cakes. Amazing value for money with a very warm welcome upon our arrival and very friendly servers. The restaurant is very clean, modern and comfortable. We can't wait to go back.

Nice welcome, good service & clean facilities. An excellent run charity, which helps to reduce reoffending and gain skills and qualifications through the training and rehabilitation of the prisoners. There is no alcohol available here however they do exceptional non-alcoholic cocktails I cannot recommend this place enough it is amazing value for money and a really deserving cause to support!

Bit of a con - it's City&Guild food with Michellin* prices. The individual items added up to c£33, but as was Xmas Gourmet Evening Dinner they charged a set £40 + £10 tip/donation for the good cause (12.5%). That's a £100 meal for 2 with no alcohol, and only really 3 courses! It's a place to go (with a voucher) and not return, unfortunately. Expect only 1 very-mini mince pie and 1 pig in blanket, unless u buy the sides for £4.75 more, and the xmas pud is not even homemade. Food was nice enough (but not for £100!) and service great, but then it was only half full. Park in St David's and walk 10mins it's £2 after 5pm.

Very attentive staff, fast and efficient service. We had mains and puddings and a good thing too, as we'd have been too full to manage 3 courses! Quality of the food was excellent, locally raised lamb, beef sirloin just pink enough. Perhaps portions were a little too large but couldn't fault quality and presentation. Lunch was a treat for my brother's 70th birthday and we were very touched that they had piped Happy Birthday onto his pudding plate. Most enjoyable and hospitable. Look forward to visiting again.

Great food. Very big portion. Comfy atmosphere. Very friendly service. It would be even better if they could make smaller portion for the mains (and reduced price accordingly) so that customers may have extra space to try starters and desserts. The desserts look gorgeous, but sadly we were too full to try any... We didn't even finish our plates which were delicious but too big. If not that we were tourists, we would have boxed the food and take away.

Went for afternoon tea here this afternoon and I cannot fault anything about the experience. The servers were friendly and could not do enough to help and the food was delicious and plentiful. We wanted to try this for ages and I'm so happy we finally did. 4 courses for £40 plus a donation; truly worth it. Attentive service, unique and delicious dishes and a worthy cause. The beetroot and ginger cheesecake with cucumber and mint syrup was a highlight. Having said that, they have a constantly changing seasonal menu so even if you've been once, there's reason to return here and try something new. Go, eat, donate!

I'm not convinced it's the best meal in Cardiff but it's certainly up there and superlative in every way. The food is exceptional, matched by equally personable the service. Eaten here a couple of times now, it's consistently good. I especially like the pace of the service- you aren't rushed like other places.

An amazing meal, cooked to perfection. My wife had the salmon, which was cooked really well. I had pork which was delicious. The desserts were devine, the lemon verbena creme brulee with a fennel flapjack was perfect. Service was excellent too and nothing was too much trouble. We went for Sunday lunch on 8th January 2017, the outside of the restaurant did not fill me with hope. However from the moment we walked through the door, we were impressed with the welcome, the introduction of our waiter and the attentive service throughout. The decor is excellent and belies the exterior. All staff were professional, had been trained to perfection. The food was excellent, well presented and full of flavour. They were very proud of their achievements and told us about the other facilities, the conference/meeting room , on site, also about the farm from were they get the produce - also managed by prisoners. We need to hear more about these achievements rather than the poor press prisons get. Well done, it was a privilege to meet these men and hope they go on to wonderful jobs and good happy lives.

Firstly, for us this was an unusual experience (first visit) as we really didn't know what to expect. The venue is like any good quality restaurant, and you are able to view the whole process in the open kitchen. The menu isn't extensive but more than ample, and the dishes have a different twist. The prices are not cheap but for the quality fair. Obviously as part of the prison there is no alcohol served. The staff are friendly and try very hard, yes, in the main it is obvious they currently lack the etiquette of serving in a high end restaurant (e.g. enquiring if there is anything else you require while having both hands in their pockets) but remember everybody has to start somewhere. Worth a visit.

The restaurant is quite small but the mirror wall makes it seem bigger. Stylish decor with lights that change colour. The food is what I would call nouvelle cuisine - tasty little morsels exquisitely presented. My starter of asparagus and new potatoes was well seasoned and the lemony dressing was delish. Next I had a salmon steak which was a good size and cooked to perfection, served on top of a small amount of Jersey potatoes and samphire, accompanied by a decoration of red pepper sauce. Pudding was divine - a perfect slightly lemony crème brulee accompanied by a slice of flapjack flavoured with fennel seeds. I was with a group of friends and a number of us would have liked more in the way of vegetables. Portion sizes in general are on the small side so not recommended for the big eater. The Clink does not serve alcohol, does not take cash payments and is rather expensive but does great work training prisoners as chefs and associated restaurant staff.
