By far the best steak in town, I rate this restaurant over miller and carters by a country mile. The restaurant is very well priced and the steaks always come out how you want them cooked. Plus the cuts are clearly larger than stated the photo is an 8oz rump. Then you order the sides separately but these are large too so one side can be shared. Advise the saute potatoes they are awesome. Will definitely be returning lots more. The staff are also very accommodating. Bellapais first opened in the mid 1970's essentially as a family run Cypriot Restaurant offering authentic Greek and Cypriot dishes along with a range of steaks cooked in the traditional Cypriot method of charcoal grilling, this soon earned Bellapais the reputation of being one of the finest steakhouses around. Taken over by the current owner in 1992 the Restaurant is still a family run business, the chefs have a vast experience of steaks and sauces and the Cypriot dishes are cooked from the traditional recipes handed down from the original owners.

Fantastic steaks and unbelievable chips! 👌 We’d pick here over Miller and Carter every time! We went here for my sons 18th family meal. For a Tuesday we were surprised how busy it was but service was excellent and the food was prompt and we were not rushed at all. Excellent family run restaurant turning out outstanding quality steaks!

Wow, we loved our meal. The food tastes authentic (Greek), the portions are huge and the service is great. All staff are smiley and responds quickly, you can see though too three kitchen. Although the in place was busy, three service was quick. Delicious, I highly recommend it.

Food was amazing, BUT service was poor from one particular waitress. First time coming to the restaurant and wanted to have a great dining experience. We were welcome with attitude and condescending tone. Also, I have never been to a restaurant where they would deny tasting the wine before ordering. The best steak house full stop! Book in advance if you don’t want to be disappointed, so lucky to live near such an amazing place for food! Staff are always lovely as well, can not recommend a place any higher then this! Steaks sides etc is always big portions as well! What more could you ask for!

Everything I ordered was cooked to perfection, and the dishes had their very own little twist of flavours & taste to them. If you are very hungry, there is no need to worry as all the portions are very generous.. good luck with trying to complete all all three courses. this restaurant was the best by far based in our little town of Colchester. We booked a table here on Saturday just gone for my dad's 60th. Amazing hot food and lovley friendly service from the staff. I had the surf and turf steak and tiger prawn which was very good. The sides are big portions, we definitely ordered too many as we couldn't eat them all so keep that in mind lol. We also ordered loads of drinks with a bottle of wine that no one finished and they let us take the bottle home. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. I surprised my dad with a big cake and the staff helped me hid it from my dad and brought it out singing happy birthday which was so Lovley and made my dad's birthday one to remember. Thank you so much for your kind service.

I booked tonight for my boyfriends 50th back in July, and I am glad to say I wasn’t disappointed. It is a cosy and timeless atmosphere. And the staff were warm and friendly and the food was just beautiful. It is my quest just to find a recipe close to the sauce for squid bellapais. And the steak was just perfect. I have no idea what the negative reviews are about but I have one happy boyfriend that appreciates great food and service right here. And we’re definitely coming back.

Highly recommended!!! This was our first visit tonight which will definitely not be our last! It was amazing from start to finish. The service was very friendly and efficient and the food was fabulous with very generous portions. My husband had the T-bone and I had the Steak Diane both of which just melted in our mouth. This is my favourite restaurant. The food is amazing and the portions generous. The service is fantastic. I like the way they've put up glass screens between the tables which not only makes you feel more secure (Covid) but actually makes your dining experience feel more private, but still getting the restaurant feel.

Visited Bella Pais last night with the wife and we had a really enjoyable meal. For some reason people seem to think that being seated at your table lets say 15mins late is the end of the world but you have to remember if people are having a good time they’re reluctant to leave , what would you do if that was your business? You can’t please everybody. Hats off to you guys your customers come to you because they enjoy your food ( and I’m not just saying that as and we’re not regulars ). The negatives; I thought fairly expensive. It was very busy, therefore noisy. I felt cramped and uncomfortable - we had 5 adults round a small table with little room around us.

Very popular restaurant...........the staff are lovely, efficient & really on the ball! Meals take about 20+ minutes from ordering & really hot. The only thing tbat stopped me giving 5 stars is that its a very small place & every piece of space has been used. The tables are so close togerher & eating your meal was a bit like being on a plane🙄very tight elbow room & not cosy atmosphere to have conversation with friends. Very loud & lively. But food was good & excellent value.

Bella Pais is an extremely busy, popular restaurant, with great atmosphere and welcoming staff. Steaks galore, great vegetable sides, good starters. A few choices for vegetarians, including humus and halloumi. Try their chips: absolutely delicious!!

Its been said that this place serves the best steak in Colchester. I dont think they were wrong. I had Fillet Steak Diane and it was absolutely incredible. The menu and staff say that sides are generous. I sadly had to leave a lot of my sides for that exact reason. But one or two sides to share - not each! Trust their description. Service matches the food. The staff know the menu inside out, they're friendly and only as obtrusive as you need them to be. Next time we will try their Greek food and try to not stare whistfully at the steaks too much. This isnt the cheapest food in town but it's SO worth every penny.

Bellapais is among the best restaurants in town, if not the best. You need to book a table in advance also during weekdays as it tends to be crowded. I went with my girlfriend as it has a quite romantic atmosphere. She had a fillet and I had a fillet au poivre. Both very good and properly cooked. The wine was good as well, we had an Italian Chianti. For dessert we tried a chocolate fudge and lemon meringue pie. The first one is a classic, the meringue pie was excellent! Really soft and delicious. To sum up, I highly recommend Bellapais!

Went for Xmas Dinner 2017. The portions were huge for the price and I could only finish half the meal.What I ate was lovely and for an Xmas meal the choices were pretty good for our party of 14. Some of the big name chain restaurants should look at this little gem . It does what a restaurant should do . Serve top quality stuff ,properly sized portions in a manner that lets you know the owner ( or manager ) actually cares about what you are paying for . Its not cheap ,but good meat isn't ,the decor isn't whats currrently fashionable . Whilst eating I don't generally look at the wallpaper .....I do look at what i'm eating which is a perfectly chargrilled steak ,a side of onions and crispy ( not soggy ) golden chips . This place gets it right . I've left many restaurants having paid £25 to £35 a head and felt robbed . This place maybe a few quid more ,but you will surely think .......as you walk away ....... ...........................that was worth it !!
