We had a really great experience. Staff were attentive. MENU had lots of great dishes and our food was really delicious. The barn actually is very cosy and on a summers day has a beautiful little garden, which you can enjoy cocktails and beers in. The barn is actually much more beautiful in real life, better than photos.

I love going on a Friday night jue to the live pianist, it really does set the atmosphere 👌, the food is amazing and spot on every time. The staff really are so welcoming polite and patient. We only eat out on special occasions birthday, anniversary, and other statements of celebrations and we always choose the barn just simply class .

The Christmas Party at The Barn Brasserie was a nice evening having our Christmas meal. The staff were lovely. We had music playing after the meal. Some was from a while ago & some more up to date. We were recommended to try The Barn by our lovely Air B&B host and, boy, are we glad we did! Beautiful building, delicious food, and the super-talented piano player was a surprise delight! The waiting staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you! We had an amazing evening and will definitely be back next time we are in the area. Both my partner and I ate from the evening three course set menu and the price was very reasonable for the (high) quality of the dishes. I had prawn cocktail to start, a main of chicken breast and rosti potato in a smoked garlic cream sauce, and the desert - which was absolutely "to die" for - was a lemon syllabub. Can't recommend The Barn enough. Sheer perfection!

A magnificent venue with courteous staff make this an excellent choice for a wedding. The venue has a bar, dance floor and plenty of space for the guests that mean the most to you. Julia and her team were wonderful throughout the evening from the wedding to the dinner and the after party and the service with dinner. Couldn't ask for a more stress free day.

My lunch today has by far been the most perfect I’ve ever had. Me and my family celebrated my grandads first heavenly birthday since his passing (he would have been 85) and The Barn Brasserie were absolutely incredible with the attentiveness and compassion that they showed. The staff were so so lovely and provided an outstanding service throughout the whole of our dining experience. The food also was amazing, and wouldn’t fault a thing. I cannot thank The Barn and their staff enough for making our grandads first heavenly birthday so beautiful and special. Absolutely brilliant. My Brother in Law's 70th birthday. kept it very quiet as requested but I let it slip during a wine pouring moment. After the meal the staff turned up with a lovely small 2 candle cake. He is not an emotional fella but he was this time. Priceless. The meal was really great and the steak cooked to perfection. The wine again was really good and the Staff. What can I say. It was midweek and we where so well looked after. This place is well top of my restaurant. It used to be The Priory in Dorset but they have been well beaten. Thank you so very much. See you next month.

Came here for a friend's wedding dinner and reception and was blown away by the food and service. The server's and management went above and beyond the entire time we were there ( which was considerable ).They were hard working and so attentive and best of all kept their smiles and good nature all the way through. Superb lunch in a beautiful location. Celebration of our eldest daughter birthday and younger daughter graduation and (unprompted) restaurant brought out ice cream candles and chocolate inscribed congratulations - lovely touch. Delicious lunch time meal here. The food was superb! The lay out of the restaurant is very good. Tables not too close together which I feel is important. The service from all of the staff was friendly and welcoming. I had the best lemon posset I have ever had! We eat out at alot of resturants and there are few that we would go back to or recommend but i highly recommend The Barn and will be back.

It is with trepidation that I give full marks to The Barn for service and atmosphere because having visited there many times over the last 18 years or so our experience hasn't always been the best. We even had a visit where we were 'interviewed' at our table by a temporary manager who informed us they were "making changes" after we complained about awful service, mistakes made and silly things like having to ask for a steak knife instead of one being provided when ordering a steak simply because 'the owners don't think a steak knife is necessary'🙄. However, for the last three visits over about 8 to 10 months we have had excellent service and food and The Barn is again our go to restaurant - for meals alone and with groups of friends. We did on one occasion have to ask to be moved because the live piano player was too loud and we couldn't hear each other talk, but as both my partner and I have hearing problems I can't blame The Barn for that and they accommodated our request without hesitation. On our most recent visit - October '22 - everything was perfect; the service very attentive, but not overly so, the food was excellent with no delays or having to wonder or ask when the next course was arriving and the atmosphere excellent. I even got a steak knife without having to ask! My only tiny gripe was that the background music was just a little on the 'too poppy and loud' side for the ambience The Barn appears to want to present. But that probably just reveals my age! I now have a different trepidation and that's that giving The Barn a good review will encourage others to visit and we might not get a table so easily! As it's such a nice restaurant and location I think that's a small price to pay.

We had The Barn as our wedding venue this December and it was so, so wonderful. The Barn were so professional yet relaxed and accommodating, and the building is stunning. Only aspect which stops me from giving it 5 stars was that we were told some of the Christmas decorations would be removed but someone else refused to allow them to be taken down. Otherwise, they made our day a lovely memory. ♥️

Really nice place and lovely food. Only negative really was that we paid about £26 for a bottle of wine, but when it arrived, it was a common brand found in the supermarket for £5.99. Very disappointed with that, expected better.

Have eaten here several times all being some time ago. However I was there last week for a Christmas lunch, and we didn't really start off on the right foot. We were shown to our table which was set up for an afternoon tea and not an al'cart dinner which I was there for. After pointing this out we were left at the table rather than moved to a table which was set up for dinner. Finally got to see the al'cart menu, Which I felt was limiting at best ordered a bottle of red to go with the meal which came but they had forgotten to bring the glasses so it was a good five minutes and then I had to ask for glasses, when the food arrived one of the guests had a Ribeye mid /rare with a blue cheese sauce when the steak arrived it was cold to the touch and would suggest it was the first thing cooked when it really should have been the last so this was sent back which came back around ten minutes later, by which time the other guest had almost finished to make matters worse was the blue cheese sauce was actually a pepper sauce, this was confirmed by at least two of the other guest's. This was pointed out and taken away very soon after the maitre d' appeared said he had tasted the suace himself and in fact it was a blue cheese sauce however as a gesture of good will he offered he would give us free desert we declined the offer as it was not about the money it was more about the the lack of service and poor quality of the food received.

This place is outstanding. Based in an old barn with exposed oak beams and an upmarket ambience. Literally one of my favorites for a special occasion. The food is beautifully presented and exquisite tasting. I think that this establishment could and should charge more, you get really big bang for your buck in my mind as a package. Staff are polite and helpful and all work together to make your experience wonderful and leave you feeling satisfied and fully looked after.

My favourite restaurant in Essex. We came here for my wife's 40th and our wedding anniversary. It didn't disappoint! Great service from Miriam and the young trainee(whose name I didn't catch) added with a relaxed atmosphere, where conversation could flow easily without it being too noisy. The talented pianist added to the nice ambience. Food tasty and excellent as ever. Good range in vegetarian options as well. Their added touch at the end by presenting us with two hand piped chocolate and ice cream messages for our respective occasions was a nice and touching bonus. Thank You.

Came for a family meal for 11 people (2 of which are young children). The restaurant was very accommodating with a nice table to seat all of us decent, a high chair available and also a decent kids menu on offer. The food was lovely from start to finish. We chose from the main a la carte menu as well as the Sunday specials with no issues in terms of waiting time or accuracy of order. All arrived plenty hot enough and in a decent timescale too. The service was good. I do feel like maybe they recruited some less well trained staff for the Christmas period who would maybe benefit from a bit more training perhaps but generally we're very attentive and did a good job keeping drinks flowing etc. All in would recommend this restaurant. We'll worth a visit for a lovely venue, good atmosphere, friendly service and great food and drink!

As a wedding photographer, it’s really crucial for the venue and the suppliers to work together to make the couples day run smoothly, I shot a wedding back in October at the barn and there was a lot of rain which is not ideal at weddings but you have to embrace it and work with it. The team at the Barn were incredibly organised and helpful, even helped keep my cameras dry with a brolly whilst I shot the couple photos in the rain! The table staff were very good and tried really hard but it was obvious they were all very young and didn't have any hospitality training. You can't run a top e nd restaurant on a shoe string. The company I work for had a Christmas Party event, and it was a really nice venue. Plenty of space for everyone with tables and chairs laid out nicely and decorated well. The Ambient music and lighting made it feel warm and welcoming when we arrived. The staff were very friendly and attentive, making sure people's needs were meet, the food was served promptly and they kept people's glasses full. The food was well cooked and the portions were reasonable. Standard Christmas Dinner favourites, like Turkey, Roast Potatoes and Stuffing were thing along with Brussel Sprouts, Carrots and Cauliflower. The wine was full bodied and plentiful. They also had a section that contained a bar and a dance-floor as well as a mini DJ booth so people could have a dance after the meal. It isn't huge though, so can get pretty crowded quickly. Overall, this is a really nice place to visit for a special meal or occasion, just outside of the Colchester city center. Friendly staff, great food and a nice ambience.

The place is lovely, its a picture perfect venue, but food wasn't what we expected as wedding catering isn't they're thing. Had normal meal there before and had nice food but for the wedding buffet service it wasn't enough me and my family we're all still hungry and cakes were brought out to soon as meats were still being asked for and the burger was just a meat ball, satay chicken was tiny in all was left hungry so had loads of wedding cake.

Went for a Sunday late lunch. The service was excellent and they looked after us well. It was 3pm and some vegetables were quite dry like they had been sitting about for a while. Prices are top end but didn't quite match what was on offer. Maybe we were unlucky and because of late sitting. We all had 3 courses but we were informed they also charge £4 per head if you bring your own birthday cake to share after the meal. I understand cost of service and washing up plates but when there is 12 of you already paying top prices having ordered 3 courses I personally thought an extra £48 was too much.

We booked The Barn for my daughters baby shower and it couldn't have been more perfect. We had afternoon tea which was a great price in comparison to other places and and the food was delicious. There was a good selection of sandwiches and cakes too. We were upstairs on the balcony where we were able to dress the area with bunting and other decorations (no balloons allowed) and it all looked great. The staff were attentive without being intrusive. The only criticism would be that our party ordered coffees unaware it was not included in the cost of the afternoon tea, maybe a reminder to the party when ordering would have been an idea. I would definitely revisit The Barn Brasserie again.

Fantastic services and the food was excellent. We recently went to on of the Tiptree jam factory for a mother's Day weekend, where the service was absolutely terrible. The barn completely made up for the weekend as it was quick service, every staff member made everyone (especially the baby) feel welcome and my mother really enjoyed her mother day breakfast. Came here for party lunch in the outside barn area which we hired to ourselves for a group of about 20. We were served drinks and canapes outside beforehand which was lovely, then sat inside for our meals. The food itself was very nice except for some minor niggles. Service was lovely and very friendly as well as attentive - staff were happy to bring through extra veg/potatoes/gravy/bread etc. when asked. The only problem was as there were only a couple of people serving us, it took a while to bring out meals and get drinks etc. Would definitely return.

Very pleased that the barn seems to have sorted itself out after a period of not being so great. I've been eating here for a good few years now and the meal I ate here this week was the best for quite some time. Seems like the kitchen has stabilised and management got a hold of things. I hope it continues on it's current trajectory and fulfills it's potential.

Staff were friendly however the service wasn't that great we had to ask for glasses to he removed from the table. We waited a long long time for our meals. The menus where also misleading with the funniest one being the "Pigs in Blankets" note the plural. Well we asked for them on a seperate plate what was brought out was One Pig in blanket. Not two or three. One. So we had one pig in blanket on its lonesome on a plate. Rather hilarious. Overall the food was nice. Could have been better but wasn't bad. Recommended for a good environment! Usually we couldn't felt this establishment we come here frequently. However besides last year's boxing day ketchup fiasco nothing could have been said to fault the barn!

We went for a soul night. Place is lovely, staff are welcoming however, their wasn’t enough staff on, we were sat waiting for 45 minutes before I asked someone if we could get a drink at our reserved table. When we did finally get our drinks the wait for them was ridiculous 25 minutes and then more family members arrived and they also had to wait a long time. The main course we had was steak that was cold but the rest was all fine :)

We've been here twice, as we're not very local. The first time, early this year, was amazing. We were blown away by the appearance of the barn, the politeness of the staff and the very reasonable prices of the food, not to mention how incredible the food was! So I took my husband back on the 19th December for this birthday. Everything was great, but when I booked the table I had arranged for a surprise cake and candle to be brought out, but it never came, the staff forgot. A woman on the table near us got a birthday cake and candle but my husband didn't get his.. I was very disappointed and it kind of overshadowed the whole evening and I left annoyed. Also, we miss the truffle fries.

We had the set menu and the mackerel pate and risotto was to die for. Then came the bill which was the nicest surprise.
