Had a very nice meal here. I had the goat curry which was full of flavour. The drinks were really good as well. Services great. The only downside was my wife's salted fish balls were overcooked and very chewy. But we didn't say anything so can't comment on that scenario. But all in all the meal was very nice.

first time going to title bay and it was amazing, it was a saturday so it was packed out and very loud but it was expected. the staff were very quick and efficient the food was amazing! i holding finish just because it was to spicy for me but all the flavours were amazing! they were very good at making sure you always had a fresh drink before finishing your last as we were on bottomless ans managed to get 7 cocktails which was well worth the money especially for the quality of the food. the chefs were super quick only waited about 15/20 minutes for food considering the whole place was packed and there was a que to get in! ❤️

Came in here last Saturday with my girlfriend for some bottomless Red Stripe (the nectar of the gods) and Prosecco (her choice). We started off with some Mac and cheese bites, which really set the tone for the culinary journey we were soon to embark on. I then indulged in the Shack Stack burger and she enjoyed a delightful chicken roti roll. My girlfriend was appalled by how quickly I consumed the burger and how many Red Stripes I drank, both of which were only possible given the quality of the food and the calibre of service we received throughout the meal. The manager checked on us at one point during the meal, and even his smile was an enjoyable experience. We finished with a few scoops of ice cream, which helped calm the meat sweats I was experiencing from devouring the burger so quickly. If you fancy many a cold pint, a menu full of quality food, and the highest calibre of service in Colchester, you must go here.

Takes a while to be served and for food to arrive from the kitchen. Very loud and busy! But the food was bad. Saltfish fritters were overcooked and dry. Chicken wings were dry and over cooked. Decided not to order mains due to the quality of the starters. Cocktails are small considering they are nearly £10 each.

I was very impressed with the barlady Shirley she had very good communicational and listening skills. I had my meal at the bar and she was chatting to me and doing cocktails for other customers. She was very helpful as I needed to go to the disabled toilets and I asked her to put my drinks behind the bar when I went to the toilet as I was by myself and didn't like to leave my drinks unattended. I spoke to the manager and gave him my praise on the barlady. She is outstanding and if anyone gets a chance to visit Turtle Bay in colchester I would recommend the Jamaican food and non achoholic cocktails. Once again I was impressed as the barlady made me feel welcome, but I also noticed that she kept watch on new customers coming into the entrance. Very good skill to have. Well done

I had a really nice time at Turtle Bay in Colchester. There was a wide range of rums on offer, alongside a number of cocktails and Caribbean beers. I was impressed with my rum and tonic and the food was tasty and enjoyable. The restaurant was not too busy for a Saturday lunchtime and it was nice that we were able to choose where we sat. The decor was interesting and there was a relaxed vibe and ambience. The prices were very reasonable and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I could not fault my experience here, would definitely recommend.

The curry goat was good but lacked in flavour, as did the jerk chicken which was dry in parts. The squid starter was delicious though! The happy hour until 7pm came in handy as we got to try a variety of what was on offer.

The place looks fresh and new with tasteful decor, the service was super friendly and nice, I think the best I've ever experienced, so sorry I don't know the name of our waitress as she was super! There is a good selection on the menu and the food is good, but it didn't do it for me. I've tasted jerk chicken in lots of places and this was probably the least authentic taste wise. Not enough spice and the chicken wasn't marinated or grilled, there was a sweet mango sauce/chutney added also that I didn't like. But that's just my personal taste I guess.

We had an awesome time here, our server was Eva and she was so lovely! Absolutely perfect service, Eva had recommendations for drinks that were clearly based on a great understanding of the menu, and tailored to the types of things we asked for. For most dishes she confirmed we knew what would come (it's spicy, the ice cream is made with almonds, this is a kind of puffy bread) and offered us sensible alternatives if we wanted. Eva was friendly, fast and attentive - thanks Eva! Seperately the food was delicious, I don't love jerk chicken but I still really enjoyed the food! We got a selection of 4 sides with a chicken starter. The desert was great too, as were the 2-4-1 cocktails, the atmosphere and the interior design was really striking and outlandish. I'd definitely recommend it here, especially during happy hour. We got 4 cocktails, 4 sides, a starter and a desert to share for £38 - not bad at all for a fun night out!

Friday Night without a reservation, less than an hour for getting a table for 10. The service was great! I broke my glass of mocktail while holding it and was given a replacement. For me there mocktails were like mixing cordials as concentrate, tad too sweet, I gave mine away after drinking half of it. I wasn't so hungry so ordered a bunch of sides including rice n beans, avacado fries, chickpea curry and fried plantain. The rice works well by itself and with the curry, plantain absorbed all the oil, and for me made it horrible to eat, the avacado had a crispy coating, had a slight fishy aftertaste. Men's toilets didn't seem like it was looked after, had a dominant urine smell. The atmosphere, look and feel is great and ambient lighting makes for a chilled environment. Overall I would say it's a good experience to try but I don't see myself visiting anytime soon *We tried the vegan options but the meat options were better than the vegan/vegiterian options. We were also made aware of the 2-4-1 cocktails as soon as it was 10pm by the waiters/staff

I loved it! I've never been to the Caribbean, but I would imagine the experience would be quite close. There is a huge open plan bar as you walk in which serves the public with an outstanding range of drinks. The cocktail menu is impressive and I learnt that before 7pm you can get 2 of the same cocktail for the price of 1! The food was well cooked and we were not waiting a long time to be served. I went with a 4 yo, the kids' menu is familiar for kids. Will definitely be going back to sample the rest of the menu!

I love Caribbean food! I have plenty of Caribbean restaurants saved on my phone and head to the nearest one when I can to grab some Caribbean love for the taste buds. They all vary on the menu such as some don't do pork and others do but use chops instead of ribs etc etc. This place is what you'd get if you let McDonalds and a Caribbean restaurant have a love child. It's very commercialised, but, they haven't done bad. I think this will bring this type of cuisine to the mass much like when mexican food became mainstream and now you see mexican restaurants everywhere. Cocktails!! They have happy hour and EVERYONE I know who's been in within one of these happy hours has fallen out the door (in a good way). The only thing I wasn't to happy about was when we sat down to eat a homeless person came to our table and asked for change. Normally I'm alright with chucking them a few quid but I was so shocked that not only was he in a restaurant he was begging at the tables whilst we were eating our food. I don't mean to sound snobbish but I've never seen that or heard of anything like that. The staff moved him on quickly enough but still. In short had a good time and got plastered. Food was ok too but a little toned down I think.

Roy told us about the new menu that is being released next week and spoke of fondness of the new dishes being served. Brunch is on its way. Roy encouraged us successfully to visit again and what dishes to try. The service was prompt and the food piping hot on delivery. The atmosphere was perfect. Great music bring played at a reasonable level. The decor of the restaurant was relaxing and was kept clean and tidy. 2 for 1 cocktails are served for most of the day with plenty of choice. Turtle bay is beautiful !! Affordable and really nice food plus great customer service, customer service always does it for me! For my starter I had a crispy squid which was lovely they were spicy and a had a nice dressing, for my main I had the lamb burger which came with chips and slaw the burger was cooked perfectly however the chips were over cooked and weren’t really nice! They have a selection of cocktails! I had an elderflower cooler, which was so good I do recommend to try if you want a drink that isn’t alcoholic. Overall I had a great experience the staff we’re lovely and we didn’t have to wait long for our food, however the music was very very loud it was hard to hear my girlfriend talking to me.

Great staff. The food tastes great and in decent portions for a chain restaurant. If you drink, make sure to go during the "Happy Hour" hours (at the time of this writing, opening until 1900/1930 then again from 2100/2130 to close). The platters are wonderful. Enough food to appease your taste buds and fill your belly. It is somewhat pricy, which is the only downfall. Most entrées are £10+. So it is easy to spend well over £60 for 2 people (with drinks and appetizers). I've been to this location more than once. It has never been extremely busy, therefore, the food comes out fast. As far as takeaway or "doggie bags" they use eco-friendly containers and wooden forks. The atmosphere in the restaurant is chilled with classic reggae playing. Overall, while somewhat pricey (especially with drinks), this is a great place to enjoy authentic Caribbean cuisine (including vegetarian and vegan options). The menu and drink menu allows options for almost everyone. If you don't like spice and "heat", this may not be your place. Most dishes are true to original Caribbean cuisine.

The second time I've been invited to a Turtle Bay, and I'm sure it's good for some people, but I don't think the chain is really for me. I've ordered a few things on the menu to see if there was something I was missing, on the whole - the goat was exceedingly mediocre, the squid was okay I guess - more battered than "panko" breaded. The baby back ribs were very tender, the bones came out clean and without effort, but the marinade left a lot to be desired. The strangest thing I ate there was the sweet potato fries - they're served in a cup stuffed with paper, so you don't get too many of them, they look stunning, they have a delightful crunch and superb mouth-feel, *but* are utterly devoid of flavour, something I just can't wrap my head around. All in all a strong 3 stars, its decently prepared but just fails to deliver on any real strong flavours (perhaps relying on the 4 bottles of hot/jerk sauce on the table to pick up the slack). Disappointing. I ordered a ginger beer, which was served in what looked to be an "upcycled" ketchup bottle with straw too short to reach the bottom and be above the rim. Weird, but I don't suppose people come to this place for the soft drinks. As for the atmosphere. I really don't get the decor - it seems like they've tried to recreate a slum, covered in colourful posters and painted corrugated tin. Perhaps I don't understand the culture - I just think that there has to be something nicer to model yourself on, or perhaps a less literal interpretation would have been more suited to a restaurant. The worst part for me was absolutely the noise. The entire restaurant is shrouded by this din of incredibly bassy music, it might have had mid-high range, but the patrons had to shout over it to order or talk so anything other than the bass was drowned out. Again I don't know what the owners are going for - it can't be doing your servers any favours and it made it impossible to hear my friends at the table. Ambiance-wise this is definitely among the worst places I've had to spend a couple of hours. I will say, the bathroom was immaculately clean. Nobody ever talks about the bathrooms, but the gents here was absolutely spotless (and quiet...!). But that's my two pennies' worth. In a nutshell - an assault on all of the senses, sadly excluding taste.

Thought we would try something different this time around rather than the conventional restaurants in town and I have to say turtle bay is a bit of a gem. Good friendly service at the table and the gentlemen was full of good recommendations on the menu. The food was lovely and very authentic. I had a jerk sirloin steak and my fiance had a 'trini' chicken curry. Both of which were rather tasty and not so overloaded with spice etc. Defo recommend to first timers or people who are a fan of Caribbean cuisine.

One of the liveliest places to eat in Colchester town centre it is full of atmosphere and fun. It has a good selections if drinks especially cocktails that are on 241 if your in at the right time. You can stop in for a drink or a meal and the food menu is vast but sticks strictly to its theme of Street food and one pot dishes. Not overly expensive and good for something different it's well worth a try. On a side point if you do travel about the Chelmsford branch is a better version of this chain

Let me say that the three stars are for ambiance and vibe! The servers were very friendly which made it a lovely place to be. Ok second it's important for people who KNOW culturally what REAL jerk and carribean food as whole tastes like are aware that this is not what you will be getting when coming to T Bay. I was confused as to why it took so long whn a soupy gravy chicken was set infront of me which was meant to be jerk chicken. So if you know that turtle bay has completely put a European spin on carribean food then whatever it is they serve will be palatable. It was edible but I don't think it's worth paying that much for altered carribean when I can easily access the real thing....I respect that not everyone can though and I do commend t bay for introducing more rural areas like Colchester to new flavours even if it isn't quite accurate. I think this restaurant being in london would be pointless. 3 stars for customer service and general vibe here tho it was an uplifting place xxx
