Reviews of Claypath Delicatessen
Lovely place for a coffee or a bite to eat, they bake their own bread, pastries and pizza's which are just delicious. Also they have a sun trap of a garden and live music once a month, early Saturday evenings. A nice, friendly atmosphere supporting independent musicians. All in all a great indie oasis in a sea of corporates.
Friendly staff in a nice cosy place. The pizza is awesome! A must try to eat in or take away. If you eat in ask to try some of the dipping sauces, you definitely won't be disappointed.
Rustic little place which has a fair number of students purporting to be studying taking up tables for excessive periods of time which is a shame as there were paying customers waiting for tables.....
Good sandwiches and coffee, if a little pricey, and friendly staff.
As good a hot chocolate as you'll find anywhere. Nice selection of cakes, great atmosphere.
Cozy local coffee shop, relaxing vibes and the baked goods were gorgeous!! Will definitely revisit :)
The best hot chocolate in the North
My favourite place in Durham :)
Great coffee shop in Durham
High quality ingredients, always fresh. Lovely place to get lunch or grab a coffee. The staff are delightful, friendly and relaxed environment + dog friendly which is always nice. p.s fab hot chocolate!
The coffee sends me to cosmic realms of divinity, easing every stress and trauma then bringing a sense of peace to my core. The bagel was soft like a baby birds heart, and all ingredients harvested straight from the garden of Eden that morning.
The man, who I assume is of direct descendent of Adam was kind and generous whose grace filters through the beans of the coffee. Thank you
Pizzas , although delicious, were served on plates far too little, making it very difficult to cut with a pizza cutter. A great place to see a gig though!
Just found out upon recommendation from friends. Such a great find. Fantastic bread, coffees and bagels. And homemade Pastel de Nata. Thumbs up! First visit of many for sure. Best wishes!
Excellent coffee, sandwiches and pastries served by helpful and friendly staff in a clean and relaxing environment! Would recommend to anyone!
Make sure you get there for it opening to collect the best bread in the city, spelt, sourdough ... Still warm. Croissants, pain raisins too. Well worth seeking it out.
What a find! We were delighted to find this place only a short walk from our hotel. Great food, coffee and tea.
One of my favourite cafes in Durham, food is always so tasty and fresh. Love the rotating pastry selection, too.
Fresh baked sourdough, nice things and coffee and sandwiches. Great food and great people. Often a que at 11am opening. Does a bread loyalty card.
Some of the most exciting food in Durham. Sandwiches in freshly baked bread and local ingredients. Always a friendly welcome and much better value than your chain places
Beautiful bread, well furnished, great staff
Superb little cafe/bakery, a hidden gem of Durham and well worth the walk a little out of town for. Coffee is fantastic, sandwiches excellent and the bread is absolutely amazing. Wish I had been more in my four years here!
Just had amazing sourdough pizza, well cooked with great quality toppings (a little too much crust if I'm being picky) Pasteis de Nata and little chocolate filled pastries were delicious. We will be back!!
Friendly staff, amazing bread made in there and nice atmosphere. My wife and I really enjoyed our sandwiches there with reasonable prices. Some local people just come to buy bread. Walking there will definitely compensate you as it is not located in the exact city centre.
Absolutely our favourite place to have lunch. The bread is always to die for and the hot chocolates are so thick and delicious 😋
Friendly service and the coffee and patisserie were excellent. I didn't try their bread, but the loaves looked lovely.
Excellent food, fresh and natural. Great vegetarian options too
Really cosy atmosphere, really good drinks. I'm quite fussy with food so my experience with much of the food is quite limited, but what I have eaten has always been utterly lovely, and it is good to see places with a wide variety of vegan-friendly food, even if I'm not veggie/vegan myself.
A treasure. The best afternoon sun in Durham. Kind and friendly staff, delicious bread, spacious tables, handmade pottery, fantastic pizza in the evenings.
Amazing place that doesn't do itself the best of favours in terms of opening times (it can't help the location but loads of people don't know about it).
Lovely range of ingredients for delicious sandwiches, which you can buy to take home with you if you like them, or if you've not the time to sit and watch the world go by whilst enjoying a special tea.
Limited service during restrictions. Takeaway coffee is delicious and best of all, in my opinion, home made sourdough bread is amongst the best available locally.
First visit had coffee and pastries excellent quality good value will return
The quality of bread is second to none. Their star is the sourdough, be it white, wholemeal or mixed. If you have the chance also get a coffee with a pain au chocolat or a pain au raisin 👍🏼
Good food and coffee with quality ingredients. Nice, open space with WiFi. I come here with my toddler sometimes, and they are really friendly and helpful and have a small basket of toys available.
Fantastic place, well worth the trip up the hill... You will not find better coffee easily, food is great, made fresh and a lot of it grown by the owners. Can't recommend highly enough.
Had a great evening, fantastic sandwiches courtesy of Claypath Deli & superb Gypsy Jazz courtesy of Swing Manouche featuring Daniel John Martin. Highly recommend a visit.
Such a friendly team, wholesome vibes, fresh delicious food and the coffee was fantastic!! Thank you!
Good coffee (achieved through sapient use of good machines and good selection of brands - Bristot at the moment), small but good selection of cheese (Italian Asiago, Spanish Manchego) and fresh bread. True, in Durham you don't need too much to be the "best in town", but this Claypath Delicatessen certainly is.
This is a gem in Durham's majestic crown. Why people don't approach me on the street just to unburden their excitement about how good this place is is beyond me. I just wish it was never ever more than 20 metres from me, even when I am asleep.
The cake was quite dry, but nice atmosphere.
Great bread, lovely cakes, best hot chocolate I have ever had, delicious vegie and lightly carnivorous meals and lovely, lovely people.
Nice enough food. Service was pretty slow and several items were forgotten. We were a group of 8 so that did make things harder. I think they need a few more staff to keep things moving
Best sandwiches in Durham! Always walked past and decided to go in today, safe to say we will be back!
I had a wonderful sandwich made with their bread which is baked in the deli together with fresh ground coffee. It's a must place to visit for a satisfactory meal
Absolutely beautiful mezze style food. Excellent service and lovely staff. Would highly recommend for a small function/gathering!
Really friendly staff, great location for me. My friends love the bread there, and when I popped in for lunch the chicken and kimchi sandwich with soup was delicious.
Outstanding food and probably one of the very few restaurants offering 100% real sour dough bread. Absolute pleasure!!
Fresh sourdough from the experts! Get a pain at raisin to go with your morning brew. Amazing!
Best bread I've ever tasted and amazingly attractive staff!
very nice coffee and sandwiches. Friendly staff excellent service.
A pleasant coffee shop selling freshly made sourdough bread sandwiches and pastries.
A cosy little cafe a bit away from the main town. It can get very humid in the winter time though but it doesn't take away from the tasty food and drinks!
Best sourdough in Durham! And great sandwiches made while you wait. Yum!
Food is always excellent here and the staff are always friendly.
I always buy the fresh baked wholewheat bread here. Worth the extra walk. Have to try the sandwiches next.
Best hot chocolate I've had in Britain.
Quality produce, made with real care.
Best bread in town, and a lovely space, with very kind workers.
Friendly atmosphere and amazing food that changes up a little depending on what they have in and what new ideas they're having!
Home made bread, delicious delicatessen, friendly welcoming deli cafe
Exveptional bread (chose the sourdough) calm and friendly while clearly passionate about bread and good food generally.
Always fantastic food here, even if you do have to wait for it a little sometimes.
Great bread, great coffee!
Bread here is amazing! The cake we had was so moist
