The restaurant is very welcoming and staff are very approachable and helpful. The building is well maintained, clean and tidy. The food was very nice, however I'm sure the portions have shrunk since my last visit😞 Still, a lovely evening out, in a great location with lovely views. Very much worth a visit if you haven't been before. A great menu for steak and sea food lovers.

We were staying over for the North run and decided to eat dinner here. Overall it was an excellent experience. The food was amazing and the staff extremely friendly and accommodating. Our orders did take a while to come out however this was due to staffing and to be fair we were so deep in conversation with our friends it didn't really matter.

Went as a family of four for my wife's 50th birthday, as she loves seafood. The place is quite stylish, and has a good atmosphere. We ordered 2 X chicken wings, 1 x mussels, and 1 x belly pork for starters. Fifty minutes after arriving, we were served the starters. They were very well presented, very tasty and enjoyed by all. For our mains, we ordered 1x surf and turf with lobster, 1 x surf and turf with king prawns, 1 x Mahi Mahi (some kind of fish) and 1 x burger. Five minutes later we were told they had no lobster. Five minutes after that we were told they had no king prawns. "Rib-n-No-Reef", more like. The affected parties reluctantly ordered the duck instead. Thirty-five minutes later the mains were served. Again, they were very well cooked, presented and very tasty. Two of us had cocktails, which I'm told were gorgeous. Summing up, we left disappointed. Slow service and indifferent service staff can be put aside - we were there for the food after all. The fact a restaurant called Rib n Reef didn't have the advertised seafood for half of our main dishes was, frankly, ridiculous. Would I go back? Possibly, but I'd phone in advance first.

The wife had a lovely seafood plater for one which was at first mistakenly given to a different table. It was then brought to our table minus the bread which the first table had helped themselves too. I had fillet steak which was nice but dry. Should have been medium rare but was medium if not medium well. The steak was frazzled on the outside and had a burnt taste.

Visited Rib N Reef for the first time on Monday 20th June for lunch and it was absolutely amazing. We will definitely be back. The food was delicious and the service from the man who works there was just fantastic, he was so friendly and so helpful

High quality seafood situated with a lovely view of the River Wear. The sharing seafood platter is a must for seafood lovers since it more or less contains many seafood dishes in the menu at small portions. I would have liked more than one slice of sourdough bread given the amount of seafood, and also the portion of the crayfish cocktail was relatively too much even for 2 people, but this is minor criticism

Walked in without a booking and were able to be seated straight away, even though there was a few people in. We ordered a starter of olives and bread to share, then I had the Rib N Reef burger, my husband had rack of ribs, then I had sticky toffee pudding for dessert. All food arrived in a timely fashion and well presented and was very enjoyable. I really enjoyed the fries, as they were lovely and crispy without being greasy . The bill was cheaper than my husband had expected, so good value. You can tell it's a new place, with a new team, as some of the staff are a little less confident/more nervous than others, but everyone was friendly and polite, and it's just a matter of time of everyone getting familiar with the role and routines. The gentleman who showed us to our table said he would be our waiter, but we never were served by him again and were actually served by 3 or 4 members of staff, rather than one specific. We still left a tip, which apparently gets shared amongst the team, which was good to know with having been served by a few staff. The restaurant decor is pleasant and modern. We will definitely go back and look forward to seeing the team members having grown in confidence.

Visited the restaurant after work this evening. Was welcomed by friendly staff whom provided a window seat and took my drink order. The restaurant was busy but I wasn't disappointed and my needs where met. On my 1st visit to any restaurant I always start with the basics and ordered the fresh bread with olives. Baked to perfection and will visit again with the family. Price is reasonable considering its Located in the centre of Durham City, surrounded with great landmarks. A++

Stopped for breakfast. Great choice of what to have. Went for a full English and halloumi and avocado with eggs on toast. Both were lovely and the full English was huge! Great value for the quality of the food. The staff and owner were lovely and brought our dog some water too. We will definitely be back.

4 people very happy with food. I ordered lobster £50 .Very little meat, equivalent to 8 medium prawns. 15 odd chips in a small bowl and small bowl of salad. £50 meal and felt hungry. If the lobster was small top it up with prawns or reduce price maybe. Seemed on the ball regarding gluten free options. Service efficient and polite. £200 bill and was i was chased at the door as we had underpaid 85p. Told them to take it out of the tip. Soap in loo so watered down impossible clean hands thoroughly.

Visited here tonight for an evening meal. We arrived at 17:50, 10 mins before our original booking. We were greeted straight away and took to our table. Staff were very friendly although very keen. We didn’t even place our bags down and we were asked what we were having to drink. On the spot I just asked for 2 cokes. Didn’t have chance to look at the drinks menu. Anyways our order was taken pretty quick. I ordered chicken breast on a bed of creamy mash and asked for the side of asparagus to be swapped for something else as I am unable to eat it. My partner ordered a well done steak. Once ordered we were told that our order would take a little while as my partner wanted his food well done. I’d never heard this before but went with it. We waited over 40 minutes to receive our food. Whilst waiting we seen a young group of lads across from us having issues with their food. 3 out of 4 of the lads seemed happy but 1 was left without a meal as it had been took back to the kitchen for reasons we do not know. He was waiting atleast 20 minutes before his food was brought out. His friends had already finished by the time he got his back. Once we got our food I noticed straight away the asparagus I asked to be removed and swapped since I couldn’t eat it was on my plate. The staff apologised and said it was Mis communication which was fair enough and had it sorted straight away for me. Once I got my food back my partner cut into his steak and seen that it was pink. We pulled the staff over and asked for this to be sorted which again they did straight away but this time managed to cook a new steak to my partners taste in less than 5 minutes. Strange because the first one took 40 and was still pink and bloody. The restaurant has only been open a few days so mistakes can be expected but then things just got worse. Too much miscommunication. We ordered a second round of drinks and was told by what we assumed to be the manager that they would be free due to the issues we had. We thanked him kindly and carried on with our meals. Once done and plates taken a young waitress came over and said that 10% had also been taken off our bill. Which meant 2 free drinks and 10% off the overall bill. Upon paying we made sure to get a copy of the receipt. We were quick to leave as had reservations else where. Once we checked the receipt we noticed that we were charged for the 2 drinks and were only given 10% off one meal not the whole bill. Now I’m not sure if this was down to lack of communication or if this was on purpose.despite all of this once problems were all solved we enjoyed the food we had, place was spotless, staff were lovely and would visit here again in the future once the place has been up and running a little while longer

Had the most amazing tasty and frankly unexpectedly properly home cooked Sunday dinner here, as I've done for years. Read the excellent reviews before I went, as you do lol. But was blown away by the scran. Perfect cruncy veg, gorgeous meat, real Yorkie, and as much gravy as we wanted..and then like a lot, lol. Super friendly staff too...and not a typical Durham rip off...just go!!!!!

Walked in without a booking on a Tuesday evening as a group of 5. From start to finish, everything was absolutely lovely. The food was amazing, although there was definitely a few things that could be done to make it even better. The Waygu burger was overcooked and didn't taste any different to a standard beef burger, which is a shame as I'm sure the burger is more expensive compared to the standard beef burger. All the mains were warm, but definitely could have been hotter. However, I do feel this is not a reflection on the restaurant as many restaurants these days do tend to serve food warm rather than piping hot! As for puddings, all were lovely. Again, the sticky toffee pudding was warm at best and I do think they should be served piping hot! The staff were amazing and very attentive. As a waitress and manager of a restaurant for 8 years, I would be so proud to have staff like them! We all can't wait to return and we will all be recommending this restaurant to all friends and family.

Lovely lunch today with the family. We had seen the variable reviews but thought we would give it a chance for a family lunch. We had a selection of the lunch menu dishes: creamy mushrooms on sourdough; fish and chips; (not so) small bowl of mussels; ham terrine and the Rib n Reef burger. Mushrooms were a selection and plentiful and delicious. The fish was a great size and with the chips were apparently delicious! The mussels were lovely, not too small but with a great texture (more bread to soak up the delicious creamy sauce wouldn't have gone amiss)! The terrine was nice but my eyes were definitely too big for my belly! And lastly the burger was huge with two burger patties (unfortunately initially a bit too rare but quickly and easily rectified) and came with French fries. Both sets of chips were fluffy inside and had a good crunch on the outside and we're definitely some of the best ones we've had! I know some of the reviews have talked about the service but we had attentive nd accurate service from the three staff who we had contact with. They were responsive and friendly and we're definitely an asset to a new restaurant! We would absolutely go here again...maybe the steak next time (the dishes going to the other tables looked great!)

We both had the 10oz rump steak and I can honestly say it was the best steak I have every eaten. The knife cut through it like butter. The triple cooked chips were awesome...even the side salad was amazing lol. All the staff were friendly and attentive. I would travel the 3 ½ hours to Durham just to eat here again 😊

Called in today with my wife and mother,found us a table even though we hadn’t booked and it was busy. The interior is a clean well decorated comfortable place to dine,the staff are brilliant,fair play to them,can’t do enough for you and engage you in conversation throughout. Then onto the food…we had 3 roast dinners and puddings…all were absolutely fantastic the portion sizes are decent. Would definitely recommend and will return next time we are in Durham.

Fantastic restaurant inside and out. The outdoor furniture on arrival really surprised me and my partner, we haven’t seen anything like this in Durham city centre or even further afield into the north east, absolutely beautiful. We were greeted into the lovely interior of the restaurant by the restaurant manager, extremely welcoming and were shown to the table, wonderful atmosphere throughout the place. I had a pint of ipa which was lovely and my partner had a glass of prosecco, drinks were delivered promptly and our order was taken for food. I had mussels to start and my partner had scallops, these arrived within about 15 minutes, such a generous portion of mussels and the sauce was full of flavour, my partner thoroughly enjoyed the scallops. We both had a fillet steak for main, mine medium rare and my partners medium, these were perfectly cooked and again served promptly, the homemade chips also a particular highlight. I have seen a few reviews about waiting times which is to be expected in a new restaurant with staff getting used to service and menus but we never experienced anything like this. Absolutely first class, food fantastic, the venue is exceptional and staff brilliant. We will definitely be back very soon

New restaurant so still not quite there, but overall worth going. Sunday lunch excellent menu choice. Tasty & well cooked meat & veg except roasties & Yorkshire soggy/not crispy. Nice touch was an extra jug of gravy without asking. Starters & sweets were excellent. Service good, but salt & pepper pots wanted good clean. Canned music competing with buskers outside makes not good listening...one or other please! NO zero beer which is a must nowadays.

We were having a stroll around Durham. My partner and myself went here for something to eat. We had no booking and they accommodated us. My partner is disabled and uses a scooter. The staff were brilliant in helping her inside the premises and making space at a table. . My partner also has a restriction on her diet. The staff were great on her just ordering a soft dessert. While I had a fantastic rump steak. We will be back next time we visit Durham.

I went to Rib N Reef last night with the hubbie and we had a great night. I had mackerel on toast as a starter and hubbie had pork belly - both were just gorgeous. We followed this with steaks which were so tender, chips were chunky and perfectly cooked and the sauces were delicious too. Service was great, Wine was VERY quaffable and great value. Chatted to lots of customers (socially distanced of course) it was such a great atmosphere on a beautiful sunny night. Definitely recommend this new restaurant to anyone - we will be back! It's with sadness I'm writing this, at 3pm today we decided to call at RibNReef for lunch as a treat for members of the family, myself and husband have been few times and the food was first class, today we ordered the two crayfish salad rolls which was delicious.,my husband ordered the cornbeef, beef ash with 2 fried egg, eggs where black on the bottom yoke hard ,the stripes of beef was over cooked and to hard to eat ,we report this and we got oh yes its looks over cooked, no apology and that was it ,no can we change that or an offer to reduce payment, husband went and payed and came back and said that's It's for me
