The best Thai so far in Durham. Every single time we have dinner from/or there it never disappoint us. From the starters to the mains everything is so so good. Amazing food! Its a small place, but the flavour is on POINT. We had the Thai River Platter to start with and it was great with a lovely selection. Mins were the massman curry, and orange duck. Both were superb and we couldn't finish it all. We'll definitely be come back soon! Thanks for the amazing meal 💙

Thai River is superbly situated in the heart of Durham with great views of the river, Castle and Cathederal. We celebrated our anniversary there and the food was top notch supported by attentive and prompt service from the waiting staff. We love Thai food and will definitely be returning soon!

Take away menu has wide variety of dishes and we have enjoyed some delicious Pad Thai by delivery. Restaurant is well located on the Riverside and close to all city centre transport and parking sites. Looking forward to eating in the outside area once summer is here again.

We had the basil chicken, chicken satay, prawn pad thai and pineapple fried rice. Dishes were moderate. Plus prawn tom yum but we were little disappointed with the taste. Not even close to an authentic tom yum. Definitively worth a try if you like Thai food. Beautiful restaurant, great ambiance, fast and friendly service.

We went here for our anniversary and the food was absolutely amazing. We got the platter to start and some chicken toast. The platter was huge and easily enough for two. We also got the best of 3 and a chicken teriyaki for the mains and they were both absolutely lush. We'll definitely be going here again!

Lovely location and interiors. Good service. Food was a bit lacklustre for me. Presentation was good and portion sizes were fine. My stir fry beef with Thai Basil (one of their specialties) had less flavour and texture than im used to. Others had the grilled meats which looked tastier. Drinks were nice. The restaurant was quite busy on a Thursday so they are doing something right, but my stir fry didn't hit the spot. I'll give this place another try however, before I decide its not for me

Absolutely brilliant place to eat. The staff are friendly and professional and the food is always incredible and reasonably priced. The Thai platter is a must if you're going with another person. The other choice is Zen however I think Thai river has better food and is better value.

Food was fantastic and came quick, around 5 minutes for a party of 2. The staff truly represent the land of smiles - service was excellent and the venue was very welcoming overall. The food prices are around £10-15 range per dish, note that if you are ordering a curry, you'll probably have to buy the rice too which costs £2.95. Food was brilliant. Portion sizes were filling and the tastes vibrant. Overall this place is great if you're out to try some Thai cuisine and perfect for a night out. Highly recommended.

I'd give it 5 stars but the venue was a bit cramped and the waiters constantly asked if we were ready to order; on one hand, it's nice if you're hungry and want your meal asap but I'm a casual meal chooser, so I like to take my time and ease into the evening, so it felt a tad rushed. Otherwise lovely venue, nice interior decor, excellent service, and really good food.

As a lover of Thai food this was a weekend treat while we had a night in Durham. Restaurant is in a lovely location on the riverside. Starter was lovely. I had Satay chicken and my Girlfriend had Vegetable spring rolls. Main dish i had was a BBQ Pork with rice & boiled egg. It was awful. Bland, luke warm, pork was fatty. I really did not enjoy it at all. Tried this place but i would not go back. Sorry.

Food was great, service prompt and prices in line of what would you expect from the place like this. Views are nice as place is overlooking the river, you will get the cathedral in sight as well. Place isn't particularly posh or chick, but food quality is great. This time around I had a pleasure of chicken skewers, great creamy soup and red thai curry with duck. I would recommend going. Side note, Dishes marked as spicy- I would say they are more medium than spicy.

Quality of food is good. We ordered the green curry, massaman curry, and spicy basil stir fry. Very good. Rice side portions are relatively large. Ambience is good. Service is a little slow, from bringing water to cooking food to coming to check to bringing cutlery, etc. Just a bit tedious to call them every time and wait for 8-10 mins for a spoon or water. They also forgot our booking which we booked online for 8 people and got a confirmation. We showed up to the restaurant at the right time and they looked around totally confused as if they had no idea. Good thing we were able to show them our confirmation email from their restaurant so they couldn't argue with us. We did have to wait but we were accommodated (although it is as if we never put a reservation in the first place?!?!).

In a great location, food was excellent, staff were rushed off their feet. We didn't get asked during the meal if things were ok or did we need anything else. Also they messed up the bill for the table next to us and ours, tried to charge us £20 pound more for things we didn't order. Organised chaos but can't fault good.

After living in Thailand for a few years I must say this place has the best thari red curry outside Thailand and I'm saying this after trying in many places across the world. Nice staff, good service and the lunch menu is quite a great deal. I went with two others and the spicy basil rice or whatever was very spicy even for a south Asian and can't remember what the other person ordered but it was abit spicy as well but my red curry was perfect. Buy the Apple juice don't eat a normal sprite it's a rip off and the vodka shot wasn't very strong either.

We came around opening time Saturday and the only issue was that the bathroom was very cold but they can't be blamed since the restaurant had just opened. A hidden gem - it doesn't do as well as it ought to, as it is completely overshadowed by Zen. Perhaps the proximity to The Gates Shopping Centre gives a preconception that it is a cheap fake place but it serves great food, and has a lovely location overlooking the river.
