You came for the castle and other sites huddled near the royal mile. However, if you feel adventurous and find yourself near Portobello Beach one MUST refresh oneself here at Foresters Guild. It is a restaurant not to be missed. Creative dishes take the familiar and elevate them to new heights. Start with the haggis over chips or putine. There is a variety of cozy seating areas indoors and outdoors. Excellent helpful staff.

Absolutely loved the wee beach huts! It was nice to sit outside but still have our own wee space. The food was great. We had the Halloumi Fries (you’ve got to try them!), beetroot hummus with flatbread, aubergine tacos, fish tacos, salt & chilli fries and the Truffle Oil and Parmesan Fries (another fave!) Staff were welcoming and chatty and the sun was out, so thankful for that too ☀️

We have over the years dined a bit in Foresters, but I had only ever been inside, so decided to book one of the little huts, what a hit! This was for an early birthday and fathers day dinner with the kids. The restaurant and bar was busy, but it was a lot quieter by the huts and sheltered from any rain, but we still got the sun. They have Build in heaters which can manually be switched on by diners. The selection of food is good, proper pub food and nicely cooked. I had Mac n cheese bon bons starter and a Black n Blue burger, basically beef burger with black pudding and blue cheese (although I swapped mine for cheddar). I then upgraded to Haggis and peppercorn coated chips. What a meal and I eat a lot usually, so was well chuffed when this meal arrived. Big thanks to the team, who were all really friendly and helpful 👍

The idea behind the roast is great with a board to share out between 2. The meal was incredible and staff were very welcoming and friendly. Worth the journey for that meal and will certainly be back for another Sunday roast.

Wow! As a tired new mum with an over warm baby I was welcomed in to a very busy establishment. It was lovely and airy, clean and the staff, especially one lady (sorry I didn't catch your name), who was quickly on it when my unsettled tiny meant it was time for me to vacate. I was not made to feel a nuisance or any of the other ways I think single mums often are...anyway big up to the FG. The food also looked and smelled amazing and people all around were having a ball. Our first night in Edinburgh... we stumbled upon the Foresters Guild just before kitchen close. First order was a Tennents pint. Excellent. My wife ordered the Beef Burger and thouroughly enjoyed it. i ordered the Peterhead Haddock. Excellent. The chips were very good and the mushy peas were 'unfancy', just the way I like them. Service was excellent and the price point was another reason why we will return to The Foresters when next in Edinburgh.

Had dinner here on Saturday as our Airbnb apartment was above it. We arrived around 8ish and there was a fantastic atmosphere, we found a table quickly although it was busy, and our server attended to us right away. My pregnant wife had a Virgin Mary, which she said was delightful and I had a craft ale from there varied selection on tap. The food was scrumptious, we shared the Mac n Cheese Bon-Bon’s which were divine, then my wife had the steak, and I had a burger both were a solid 8/10 in flavour and price. If We’re ever in the area again we will definitely be back.

First visit to Portobello, no idea where to go! Remembered this was recommended - mainly because of the fun beach huts you can have food and drinks out in or amongst. The food is fine, nice, but I was still hungry. The waiter was really friendly though. He can make you any kind of batista drink apparently! Would go again for friendliness.

OK, so we were excited to be out anywhere given the last year or so of not going out, but, this was well worth the time. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Food was great and tasted like the menu described it. Loved the beach hut set up out back.

Went for a drink Saturday afternoon. Had booked outside but because of shocking weather we had to sit inside. Unfortunately this pub is still doing the 2 hour booking slots because of that I probably won't rush back. Food looks great and decor brilliant. A lot of places in East Lothian have relaxed this 2 hour booking nonsense which just feels like your on a conveyer belt so will probably opt for visiting them more. Shame though overall great place and good service.

Went to the Forresters for a Saturday evening night out with my Wife.We both had steak and chips, wine and a lager.The meal was excellent cooked fresh and beautifully presented. The ambience of the bar area was cosy and enticing. Service was promp but not rushed and all staff were polite and attentive. Highly recommend the Forresters.

Really great bar. Beautiful food. The fish and chips or any of the burgers are fab. Its really chilled with very comfortable chairs. Two log burners make it really cozy in the winter but the ability to open all the french style doors at the front is great in the summer. At the rear there are little huts to sit in to drink or smoke etc. Its very cool Lovely staff and great atmosphere can't say more!

I love this place, nice atmosphere, love the decor and staff are very helpful and friendly letting you know if they're busy that the food could take a bit longer. Very attentive always willing to go the extra mile. Varied menu, food lovely. Need more Vegan options although if you ask certain ingredients are removed from Vegetarian meals for the food to then be vegan which was great. Dogs are also welcome which is nice.

The atmosphere is fantastic and very relaxing. Greeted by friendly staff offering a wide range of beers. Alongside delicious beer was the steak of the same calibre, it was cooked to perfection as were the sides that came with the steak. Great evening, thank you.

A bit price but good. The brisket burger was to die for! Have made an additional visit & happy to say that I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner (Rib Eye steak & triple cooked chips plus pepper sauce then Sticky Toffee pud) Then steak was cooked to perfection the sauce was one of the best I have ever tasted it was a shame the pot of it was too small! Chips were crispy on the outside & fluffy in the middle. Yum. S.T pud was delumptious. The waitress was lovely & friendly and even though we arrived at around 20:00hrs the Chef did agree to cater for us. (Kitchen closes at 20:15 on Mondays - something that we were not aware of) it was my birthday & it could have quite easily turned into a disaster. However, we were fed like Queens & not rushed in the slightest. My pudding also had a wee candle on it! 10/10 for effort & satisfaction. Will definitely be back. Fab!

The best meal we've ever had. Well worth the money spent. We had Chicken Liver Pate that was out of this world. Our steak was cooked to perfection. (we both had it rare) You could have cut it with a spoon, it was so tender. The chef was wonderful, happily changed our chips for mash potato, which was as smooth as silk. Our desserts were extraordinary. The salted caramel ice cream with my sticky toffee pudding looked and tasted as though crafted by angels and the cheese board had an outstanding selection and variety. The staff were excellent and the chef came and spoke to us personally, congratulating us on our engagement. Foresters will forever be an integral element of the tale of such a special day.

This is a lovely pub with nice food and a good atmosphere. Drinks are reasonably priced too. It can get busier than you expect, so it's worth booking, or going in early on the weekend. Particularly nice (on milder days!) are the beach hut tables in the beer garden! Oh, also useful to note they allow dogs in the bar & outside, but not in the restaurant area.

Excellent gastropub on Portobello High Street. The menu is quite small but perfectly executed, the staff are super cool and they are very serious about the covid safety measures without turning the experience into an Orwellian episode. So hats off to the staff and management. I live in the city centre and happily walk there with my partner to work up an appetite for an excellent lunch. Highly recommended.

Surprisingly good pub grub. I say surprisingly because, if its surrounding pub neighbours were anything to go by, it shouldn't be that good. We turned up around peak time on a Saturday evening, when, according to the staff, it's near impossible to get a table without booking two weeks in advance. At first we were kind of relegated to a small seated area, a throughfare for the waiters and chefs, away from all the action. The staff were, however, incredibly accommodating and placed us in a better seat in the restaurant, just as we were about to head into the beer garden (also quite nice) for a better experience. I chose muscles, chips and salad with a glass of house Merlot. My son had a burger - the size of his head - with chips and his dad had beer-battered fish and chips. My moules mariniere sauce was really tasty and well cooked and the chips were some of the best I've ever had. The only minor was that the muscles were obviously not fresh from the sea, but still tasted good. My son was happy with his head-sized burger and his Dad's fish tasted light and crispy, the way it should be. Enormous portions too. Excellent, attentive and very respectful staff made the experience a pretty good one for a last minute meal. Quite pricey for pub food though, so make sure you're prepared for the bill.

It looks a really nice pub....we booked online for a table indoors however when we arrived we were shown to an open table and the weather was threatening rain. The Guild opened on 10th March this year after a major transformation, with new management and a new slant to its' name. After a walk on the beach we popped in for a drink and a scout at the new interior and menu. On entering you get the immediate sense of a pub, slightly shadowy light with lots of exposed brick, wood and colourful textiles. There are lots of tables, snugs and bar space. A bright restaurant section offers a vista into the kitchen. We had heard there was a 'beer garden' so we ventured into the Easter Sunday sunshine with our drinks and a copy of the menu. I was thrilled to see such a unique space with brightly coloured beach huts and garden furniture. The huts are well made and the interiors are very comfortable with little heaters and speakers. We'll be heading back soon to try the food. Booking is suggested as there are only 6 tables in the dining area.The menu had the current standard pub fare choices with an emphasis on local suppliers and producers. Worth a try I reckon......

This is traditional place always full of people and very alive. It is a pitty that the outside garden is so small because it seems to be favourite place of everybody :).
