Reviews of Levels Cafe & Lounge
S.
While they have a good range of products, it is very difficult to place an order for hot food. Unless you are familiar with the kind of food they serve, you will be utterly confused. I wish they had straightforward options like grilled sandwiches or hot pasta. If they do, they need to put it clearly on their menu.
Many people buy cold wraps and sandwiches because they do not understand the ordering process here. It is good for tea, coffee, and pastries. No table service!
M. J.
The best cafe to chill out in. It's took superhuman efforts to drag ourselves out of this place. Great place to go to after visiting the Palace of Holyrood, Dynamic Earth or the Scottish Parliament. Full breakfast for £6.50 as well.
D. C.
Nice place to have a breakfast and a coffee. Can be busy at times with students working at the tables. Keep an eye out for the offers on coffee and rolls in the mornings as it’s quite good value.
K. O.
The atmosphere is quite nice. Students are quiet and music is nice and there is a wide window and long tables but also sofas. It is overpriced for a student cafe to be quite honest - My small salad was £5 and hot chocolate around £3. The hot food smells and is nice and filling!
t. s.
The place is located in a nice location. Food was taste and good environment for some rest or coffee
G. R.
It is frequented mainly by students but anyone can visit. A wide choice of food offering good value. Friendly and efficient staff. Clean and spacious.
M. K.
Nice student bar with affordable prices and place to work with a notebook.

Great cafe with one of the best sortings of meals among all University of Edinburgh cafes ... It has a really enjoyable atmosphere with nice music and good places to study, chill or just have some food
L. V.
My third visit and it was very nice as the previous two. Very quiet considering the amount of people, this is mostly visited by uni students doing some work so the noise level is much lower than other cafes. Lots of seating options, comfy sofas or tables, even individual desks. Very good coffee - I tried the beetroot latte and it was really interesting - in a good way. Nice food too and friendly staff. Very relaxed and I can definitely recommend.
B. S.
I've had really nice lunch here at an affordable price. They also have an option of salads to go with meals which I find very filling and nutritious. The sitting area is very comfortable as well. You can can meet up for coffee, lunch or just have a quiet sit-in by yourself.
A. G.
Great space to relax - or work - and have a coffee.
K. G.
Spacious with a good variety of hot and cold foods and drinks. Plugpoints only by the walls, no annoying music playing.
S. M.
Great coffee and tea, and their food is a lot better than what I expected. Their breakfast rolls are a particular favourite that get snaffled up quickly, so if you want a bacon roll you better get there early. The space available in this place is what makes it a nice, relaxing place to have lunch and get some work done. Certainly, it is a lot bigger from what it appears on the outside. But the staff are by far the highlight of this place, who go out of their way to make sure your order is right. My only criticism is the minimum spend on cards, though if you are a member of the UoE then you can get a UPayChilli account through your student card.
F. E.
Very good place to study! Student values 👌
A. B.
Love this place. It's huge, with lots of light and tap water/cups available next to the silverware. Board games as well. There's a decent salad bar with decent prices, which is self-serve. The bowls you get the salads in are the MOST ADORABLE EVER. A modest and typical selection of baked goods and pre-packaged snacks. The coffee is as can be expected from any university cafe. They also have a good number of vegetarian options for lunch.
J. K.
Lovely spot with lots of couches and desk space, ideal for studying with a nice cuppa. Distancing measures also being well enforced and spaces sanitized after each guest's departure.
E. A.
This is a modern, very large cafe with competitive prices.
For breakfast, there is a wide selection of sweet and salty food (i.e. continental and Scottish). Additionally, the place is relatively deserted then. Later in the day, the cafe gets crowded with students studying at the tables.
Prices are competitive, and there is an extra 20% discount for students of the University of Edinburgh if they pay with the U-Pay-Chilly system.
The architecture is very modern, with the cafe being located inside a brand-new group of student halls.
A. D.
Lovely spacious café with incredibly friendly staff and a lovely welcoming atmosphere. I'd recommend sitting up the steps and to the left as it's nice and cosy up the back.
Great coffee and ideal spot for breakfast or lunch 😋
Run by Edinburgh University but not exclusively for students.
J. D.
Easily the best working cafe in Edinburgh. Tons of seating, outlets and free wifi for students and non-students. The food and coffee are decent (the smoothies were surprisingly tasty) but you're not coming here for that. The staff are really friendly and will accommodate any reasonable request as well. If you need a place to get some work done outside of the house/room/office, this is it.
A. M.
Great cafe - excellent hot food selection and really good coffee. Really spacious and good for doing work in or meeting friends as they have both long benches and sofas and armchairs too. Lovely vibe, cheap food, couldn’t recommend it enough!
M. M.
Great place to come and study. There is loads of space, and it is very varied. There are armchairs and booths and tables. They have loads of outlets and WiFi for students (eduroam and KeySurf). The barista that time I went was lovely and very friendly, and they had a great salad selection. Apart from this, though, I believe the food and drinks and drinks at the café are more expensive than they are worth. In particular, it's supposed to be for students, but the prices don't show it at all!
A. K.
A wide variety of food and drinks. Amazing breakfast spread. Find different menu during lunch time, along with many salad options to choose from.
I love their Mocha coffee. Wonderful place to work, helping me in working my dissertation. Visit anytime and you will find a place. Huge space to sit, and has a library cafe feel to it.
Don't forget to pay using Upay Chill. With this payment mechanism, you can save 20 percent on the menu price and at the same time earn points. The more you drink and eat, the more freebies.
Not to forget, they also serve beer and wine. Depending on the mood they serve everything.
The staff is amazing, smiling and courteous. Just sit at your place with the food and once the food is done, a staff member will come and clean the table.
The only thing which is annoying is the toilet. I don't understand why they have lock only at the men's toilet. It might be difficult for the first timers.
Turn the nob left, press second and fourth button at the same time, press the third button, turn the nob to the right. Hurrah you can use the toilet now. For women it is quite easy, just push the door and you are there.
But an amazing place to sit, work, talk or just relax. University of Edinburgh is amazing in managing their entities. The best part about them is that they consider everything as a business or a start-up which need to each money.
Scottish entities are known for their business, and it is visible in every part of University. Amazing experience both for the user/customer and also for the staff. Anything run by University is amazing.
On the final note, I should be writing my dissertation, but then I realise I have to write this review.

Great range of food, especially lots of tasty gluten free things. Loads of space to sit. All very clean. Good customer service. Good coffee.
J. D.
Nice atmosphere, great hot food offers as well as cold options. The coffee isn't my favourite but they do a good beetroot latte.
N. C.
Nice enough place and atmosphere but the food is pretty bad. Got a curry and the rice was super crunchy and burnt and inedible. Apple pie latte was very powdery... maybe I’m just unlucky today. Also they don’t accept card below £5 so I had to buy 2 coffees :( I did get a refund though for the curry and rice
S. H.
Great place, apart from the flies and also the cuttlery is a little worse for wear. No one wants food en-crusted cutlery or water spots all over it.
But atmosphere and service and on par, staff is on-par as well and management is frirfrie and helpful also.
L. C.
one of my fave uni places. whenever I have to come for work in the area I pay a visit. good coffee and especially good breakfast with lots of choices. plenty of options for lunch, too. and the design of the cafe is lovely :)
C. S.
Excellent place for students that want to work with their laptops etc, there is a power supply almost everywhere! Also has a huge variety of drinks, coffees, homemade food and snacks. Highly recommended!
K. L.
Always a joy to grab a salad/hot meal/soup here and find a sofa to crash on in the back. One of my favourite hang-outs in the city and not just because of the killer vegan croissants.
K. M.
Massive café with reasonable daytime hours; wonderful atmosphere, and plenty of food and drink to choose from. There are far more charming coffee houses just around the corner on St. Mary's St, but none with the selection of seating.
A. T.
Great place to have a coffee and quick study session before uni. Pleasant ambiance and really comfortable seating. Expensive as hell though.
W. G.
Student restaurant on Holyrood road. I'm not a student but have been there for lunch several times. Good choice of hot and cold food, sandwiches etc. Reasonable prices and a modern clean environment.
N. P.
Great breakfast, reasonable price. Good service. Didn't eat from their menu they were perfectly happy to accommodate though
V. B.
Spacious yet cozy cafe, perfect to relax or work!
A. G.
a nice Edinburgh uni a coffee establishment with very affordable coffee and lots of seating. It strikes me as a sort of refectory style but cosy and with some modern hipster touches.
K. W.
Fantastic homemade soup, lovely staff. If anyone is in construction, especially mechanical and electrical services, the ducting and containment is absolutely perfect, something to be seen.
M. P.
Very chic, and huge cafe. It is a bit pricey but the coffee is good. Is a great place to study.
D. R.
Really cute space, with good, high quality food and drink options. Quite inspiring decor and great for catching up on emails.
B. L.
There are lots of seating options, it's laid back, and a nice spot for sitting with your laptop or a book. It's worth noting it is mostly frequented by university students.
J. H.
Quite cozy and very close to the university. Good place to have a cuppa with colleagues or friends. Food is okay.
C. N.
Great work space, maybe the best coffee shop to work from in town. Good space, helpful staff, ok coffee, not bad food choice
J. C.
So convenient for a coffee break just before my art appreciation course just down the hill. Very studenty is a peaceful environment.
L. t. B.
Coffee and food is ok and it's very spacious and good for studying. However, the music is too loud and at times really horrible.
T. Q.
Best cafe in town to sit and work, good wifi, electric plugs all around. The place is very clean and the staff is nice.
M. W.
Cheaper coffee than Costa hence the 4 🌟 . Similar quality. Sandwiches are cheaper at Tesco. Baked goods looked good.
J.
Great selection of food and drinks, hot and cold
A. A.
Very 'open' due to its size. Good coffee.
J. T.
Very nice place to sit and work. Food is not very good, and is *absurdly* expensive. £2.50 for a mug of tea, for example.
J. C.

D. M.
