Reviews of The Shore Bar and Restaurant

The Shore Bar and Restaurant. Restaurant or define are defined primarily by 3 things. Food, cleanliness, and Service. In my opinion, after having dined there on numerous occasion. They have delivered each and every time. The menu is well priced. The menu is balanced with wonderful selections.
They put imphasis on presentation of the food. In fact you will probably find yourself looking at it to determine when, where and you want to start from.
If you are a wine, whiskey, or scotch drinker, their selections will not disappoint. The staff are more than helpful. In fact they're quite delightful, and make it a fun experience.

Lovely relaxed place, perfect for some seafood. We had mussels, mushroom and truffle soup, seared seabass - everything was delicious! Some guests next to us had banging looking fish and chips as well. Overall highly recommend dropping by for lunch!

Wonderful hidden gem. Would recommend for a classy sit down meal for seafoods to meats. Medium class with a twist of Scottish seaside gastronomic culture.

The atmosphere of the restaurant caught our attention and we went there 2 nights in a row, one was for drinks, the one was for dinner. Both the bar and the dining room offer a unique ambiance on its own. The staff is incredibly helpful and the food was far above our expectations. The mussels, the fish platter were fresh and delicious. The portions were quite generous. So hope you’ll enjoy your dinner at the Shore.

There was a very long wait before being asked for our food order and had to request to place our order (this may have been because staff thought there was another person coming which was never the case but the misunderstanding was fair enough). Then had to wait a very long time for our mains to be brought out (around a 40 min wait after our starters, whilst the sauces were sitting waiting). The chef sent his apologies but our drinks were long finished by the time they came out. Steak was recommended medium which was requested but came out very well done. The food was nice and the staff seemed lovely but definitely not great value for money, especially when the 10% service charge was already added onto the bill which we didn’t think was appropriate given the circumstances.

Great food, great staff and great atmosphere! Definitely worth a visit and we’ll be back when in Edinburgh again.

Mediocre just between food and service. Made to wait a fair while at the start to order, roughly 25 mins from when sitting down. Got the mussels for starter which was delicious, as good as any I have got, no complaints. We were made wait extra length of time for our mains due to how busy the restaurant was which is grand. However, table to our right which arrived in after our starters had been lifted received their mains before us, one of the mains being the same thing I had ordered. I received the fish and chips which was delicious and couldn’t fault. However, my partner got the steak which was recommended to be cooked medium and was ordered as such. Despite this, the steak came out completely over cooked (well done, completely brown in the middles) and only for their placid nature I was for sending it back.
Considering the price in comparison to other alternatives in the area I wouldn’t be rushing back. Maybe it was just a bad night for this particular table.

An Edinburgh institution - and deservedly so, if the venison and the flatiron steaks were anything to go by. These were exceeded only by possibly the best scallops I have ever tasted. Fish and chips, French onion soup and pig's cheek croquette all good, too, and all in the romantic, atmospheric setting of a room that belongs to an age long past. The staff know what they are doing, too. Highly recommended.

I used to love this place. Last time I went the food was still nice, and the service alright most of the time... But they included items we had not asked and included a 10% service in the bill without along before hand (we were just two adults and two children)... And then their POS machine asked for tip again.
... It did not look nice.
My feeling is that is becoming more of a tourist place.

As always fantastic service and lovely food. Myself and mum have come here for last several years, never a bad experience

What a first nights dining in Scotland after a long days work in Manchester. Staying locally, we dropped in for a drink at the Shore, being very much welcomed by the staff, and grabbed a good table. We asked to have a look at the menu, and decided to stay. The staff were very knowledgable about the menu and the chef very amenable to missing an unwanted item from one of his dishes. So we ate the Salmon cured in orange and beetroot along with the whisky glazed pork belly starters. These were presented splendidly and were full of flavours and textures.
The mains were a Codfillet and smoked haddock chowder(without the clams!!), and a specials..Sea Bass. Both were superbly cooked, the fish flakes just breaking away with the slightest fork, the accompanying veg crunchy and the sauces spot on.
It was so good, we even had a pudding...ON A MONDAY!!! The apple and pear crumble was pretty good, with large chunks of fruit and thick custard.
Our only quibble, and it cost Shore the 5th star, is that the waiter added the tip to the final bill without even asking. Yes the service was excellent, and yes, we almost certainly would have tipped, but to insist on it by demand, is wrong in the UK.

Es war so lecker, dass wir gleich zwei Tage hintereinander hier essen waren. Der Koch ist ein wahrer Künstler. Fish and Chips, einfach aber gekonnt. Die Jakobsmuscheln sind auf den Punkt, die Beilage mit Erbsen sehr lecker, die Calamari genau richtig, serviert mit einer scharfen Sauce. Und der Service ist super!
Wir kommen gerne wieder.

It was so delicious that we ate here two days in a row. The chef is a true artist. Fish and chips, simple but skillful. The scallops are on point, the pea side is delicious, the calamari is spot on, served with a spicy sauce. And the service is great!
We'd love to come back.
