Reviews of Julie's Kopitiam

Disclaimer: This is a michelin guide restaurant. Not a michelin star restaurant.
Im actually amazed that a malaysian food can be part of the michelin guide in the uk and its not even in london. The food were good and some of them are indonesian. So its more of a south east asian food or maybe javanese as all these people came from java. If you are in glasgow, this is the place you should come to eat since they are super amazing and worth them. Beware this place needs to be reserved since there are only 4 tables and open at specific time. Also, it might be a little bit expensive as per glasgow city. Nevertheless, this is definitely recommended me.
P.s. you can trust me since im an expert of south east asian food. Havent found a good one in london they are usually whackk.

Excellent South East Asian dishes in very reasonable price
Z. A.
Lovely wee restaurant with brilliant food and friendly staff. We had booked for lunch as soon as it opened and glad we did because within 5 minutes of opening the place was full.
Lovely authentic fresh food l. Will be going back for dinner at some point
M. W.
Absolutely delicious South East Asian food. We’ve tried nasi goreng and kari dal followed by mango sticky rice and have to say that all we’re amazing. So happy we became local to this little gem.
J. P.
Very good food, slight issue with portion sizing and side prices. Very enjoyable.

Julie's is an absolute gem in the southside of Glasgow. The menu has lots on it but isn't overwhelming, it's always very busy and the service is great. Then, there's the food. Well thought out, big tasty dishes that are all fresh and delicious. I haven't eaten a thing that hasn't been a 10/10, just wish my pics did it justice! Mince roti, to die for. The pork in the nasi goreng was also outta this world tonight too. Everyone, go! Just go, right now. Stop what you're doing, and go to Julie's.

Some of the best food in Glasgow. Really tasty Malaysian food. Friendly staff and fantastic food. It reminds me of Mission Chinese food in SF with a casual environment and a modern take on a cuisine with big bold flavors. Both the hot tea and lapsong souchong slushy are great. I'll be back soon!

Despite its huge social media following, I found it acceptable but not exceptional. It seats about 18 max on uncovered tables and hard chairs. Service was friendly and we were seated immediately, the food isn't cooked to order as in the main it's not that type of food, but basically reheated. Could have been a little warmer to be honest, not send it back cool but zero chance of burns. I guess there's a reason Malaysian based food chains aren't fighting for High Street space, the food is fairly authentic, and that's my real problem with it, our favourite restaurant when we were in Malaysia was Persian food.
M. G.
Nice meal. Was a really cold night so a bit cold inside. Myself, wife and 2 teens decided to try one of each starter and mains. Highlights were roti canai, tamarind corn fritters and the nonya chicken curry. Outstanding dish was banana fritters with salted peanuts and evaporated coconut milk, accompanied by a pulled milk tea...delicious. Fermented smashed cucumbers a bit odd for us however. Overall really nice.
J. B.
Great food, BYOB and v friendly staff. Will be back
J. R.
Relaxed sat lunch. Lovely authentic Malaysian food. Highly recommend.
M. P.
Delicious food and lovely staff! Must try the Roti and Dal, they are phenomenal!
N. H.
The food was so good here I forgot to take photos! We went to Malaysia on holiday last year and the dishes at Julie's took us straight back to Langkawi. The pork dumplings are amazing!
J. S.
Saw a table and grabbed it. Very tasty corn fritters and coconut curry. Friendly service. Don't tell anybody
A. P.
Fantastic, food was authentic in flavour. The small restaurant has a great vibe and the staff were friendly. Good prices. What a gem of a place.
M. M.
Food is outstanding can't wait to try the evening menu. They don't take reservations so go an hour before you want to eat and put your name on the waiting list!
J. J.
A great dinning experience highlighted by the unique space, fantastic flavours and good vibes. A must visit when in the Southside!
C. K.
Set meal for two is great deal. Good portion sizes with lots of variety. Can't wait to try after in person dining in the future! (never managed to get a table beforehand though)
E. F.
Book in advance. The Roti Canai is to die for. Michelin Guided for a reason. 4 out of 5.
L. M.
Amazing food, something different to try and love. It's a really nice vibe, small and quirky.
C. S.
The food was absolutely outrageous you need to eat here. Nasi Goreng. So good.
D. H.
Yummy food, straightforward menu and good prices at a quaint little place in Shawlands
C. J.
Awesome food, and really well priced!
W.
Mixed experience. Good service though relaxed and I love the interior / design. Not sure if reflective of the cuisine or small menu but very limited veg options. While I found the food tasty, the portions were smaller than I expected. I may come back but equally I may not. For a veggie, there are better options locally.
H. M.
Amazing food, a axing service and suitable for kids and vegans ... What's not to love 💛
S. A.
Collection only just now sadly as we would love to go experience a sit down meal here but even with restrictions as they are the food was delicious. Fabulous quality and generous portions. If you want expertly cooked and perfectly flavoured food you'd do well to try Julie's Kopitam! We will be back!!
T. A.
Looking for authentic tasting Malaysian food? Look no further. I've been on the lookout for somewhere that could compare to the food I tasted whilst visiting Malaysia and have finally found it in Glasgow. Food and service were exceptional. Will definitely be going back very soon.
G. M.
Excellent food, lovely setting, great service. Had been meaning to go here for years and I wasn't disappointed.
R. B.
What a lovely bit of lunch. Genuinely very nice food and good value.
M. R.
These guys produce some stunning food. It's a canteen style dining for 20 cosy diners. Eat and go no alcohol but a range of good soft drinks. The food is wonderful great value great quality friendly staff. The good news they are moving over the road to seat 50 so it will be easier to get a table.
s.
I went to the kitchen at SWG3 last night and the food was incredible! I’ve only had Malaysian food a couple of times before but this was so good! I loved all the flavours and the textures, cant wait to go back 😍 please open a place in Edinburgh!
A. B.
Really nice food. We tried 4 different dishes and all were very tasty but both agreed the sweetcorn fritters were the winner.
Don't sell alcohol (not sure if this will change) so good if you're trying to do dry January... I'm not but had a beer afterwards.
Looking forward to returning to try another 3 dishes and the sweetcorn fritters again. Reasonably priced at £32 for 2 small plates, 2 larger plates and a soft drink
I would recommend giving it a try. Quiet on the Wednesday I attended but have seen many busy nights before then. No advance booking but I recommend Linen across the road for a drink if you do end up on a waiting list when you visit.
M. D.
Not as good as I was expecting after glowing review in Sunday Herald. New menu starters were delicious, but main courses too salty/heavy on the soy sauce for our taste. Nice though. Good service, if a little slow.
S. !.
Went purely to test out against the few bad reviews (some folk are morons!). Food was great! Beverage options however were dire. They don't serve beer/wine yet prohibit BYOB; options were tea or fizzy juice - so we settled for tap water.
Would definitely be back, but only if they revise their drinks offering and/or permit byob. 👍
M. C.
Don't believe the hype?
The roti starter was delicious - would have eaten more if i had known how good it was.
I have only tried one main (a laksa) but there was nothing outstanding about it. Perhaps the other dishes on the menu are worth going in for so don't let this review put you off trying.
S. R.
Had been wanting to try this place for a while now. Went last night with a friend and it was tremendous. The decor and little touches are top notch, although a small place they make good use of the space and it adds to the experience. The sweetcorn fritters were divine and the nasi goreng was fresh, light and spicy...perfection. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and took time to interact which was refreshing. Kopitiam may mean small and humble but don't let the name fool you...this place hits all the right notes!
C. S.
Been here a twice now. Food is quite expensive considering how basic some of it is and how small the portions are. Still really good food but compared to Rumours (a Malaysian place in town) you get less bang for your buck. Also, almost impossible to get a seat most times. I've eaten there twice but I've turned up only to find it too busy twice as well. They offer to put you on a waiting list and text you when there's a free seat but the list was very long. I'll probably go again, I suppose, but even Oro (down the road) is a similar price for more food imo.
L. M.
Such fantastic aromas when you step in, everything on the menu sounds delicious and I loved what I had. Missing a trick by not offering coffees but I suppose it's trying to be different than the usual brunch places nearby and I think the machine was just broken to be fair!
E. T.
Lovely cosy lunch today. Delicious flaky roti and dipping sauces to start, followed by Julie’s famed nasi goreng. Warming, authentic flavours and friendly service. From previous visits I’ve had to wait 1-2hrs in the evening, but we managed to get in without a wait for lunch - will definitely be back!
S. K.
Delicious! Thoroughly enjoyed the Vegan Nasi Goreng; however the corn fritters to start were the winners...tremendous 😋.
J. T. P.
Amazing Malaysian food !probably one of the best meals ive had in Glasgow. We has the Malay breakfast and it was so delicious. I had the porkt stack roti and the nasi goreng and some roti canai for sharing . Simply delicious
B. L.
Great place. Bit of Japanese electro funk as well as great food.
C. T.
Super tasty and friendly staff, what more do you need!
K. M.
This is a great wee place! I took my parents who used the live in Malaysia and they were very impressed with the food! Plus the menu has plenty of options for vegans and celiacs!
N. C.
Excellent food and reasonably priced, along with attentive service. A great combination testified by the number of diners coming to eat and having to wait, even early in the evening. Table booking not available, so turn up early...
G. H.
This has to be the best restaurant you can visit in Southside rn. The food is amazing, and the atmosphere is lovely. You can't book, and it can get busy, but they provide a service to call you when the table it ready for you - so can grab a drink in one of the nearby bars. The food is worth the short wait!!
C. N.
Nice cozy place with good food. Enjoyed the Nasi Goreng. Hope to be back soon!
J. V.
Great wee place serving malay food. pretty small place so can't always get a place, but apparently moving to bigger premises. Hopefully the food quality will be just as good!
N. N.
Lovely food. Not the fastest place to eat, as they cook everything from fresh ingredients, from scratch. Place is also quite small, but cosy.
C. W.
Delicious well priced and with a great service, what is not to like?! The menu is about to change so we will be back for another fantastic meal soon!
T. P.

Definitely worth repeat visits.

Lovely food. Not the fastest place to eat, as they cook everything from fresh ingredients, from scratch. Place is also quite small, but cosy.

Helpful friendly staff. The food is superb. There is a young trendy vibe, but don't let that put you off. The food is worth it.

Great wee place serving malay food. pretty small place so can't always get a place, but apparently moving to bigger premises. Hopefully the food quality will be just as good!

Really good Malaysian good at a reasonable price. No wonder it's always packed. Highly recommended this place. Good to see something a little different in the south side as well.
