Reviews of Porter & Rye
R. M.
Best steak ever? Not far off. Porterhouse rare/blue ... Unbelievable charcoal flavour on the outside and beautifully cooked. Superb. The scallop starter was staggering and the bone marrow starter was delicious too. Great drinks and service too... Not the cheapest, but definitely amazing.

Wow! Booked Porter & Rye for my 40th birthday celebration with my husband. The customer service was outstanding, the staff very very attentive and lovely considering it was a Saturday night and busy! They went above and beyond and gave us complimentary prosecco as a birthday treat and a lovely plate of gorgeous little cakes with happy birthday written in chocolate at the end. It is the little things like this that make Porter & Rye a truly special place! The restaurant has a really good atmosphere, we didn't want to leave! The food was out of this world, everything was cooked to perfection and clearly the chefs are at the top of their game. Genuinely can't wait to come back...thank you to all the team for making me feel special and for making the last night of my 30's one to remember! See you soon x

Perfectly cooked steaks, great sauces and chips.
Bit pricey especially having to pay extra for sides , nice for a treat but too much to make it a regular outing.

Excellent customer service. Jack was very attentive, knowledgeable and pleasant. The food was excellent (chateaubriand), cocktails also great (they made a French Martini despite it not being on the menu).
We will definitely back. Excellent.
J. G.
Porter & Rye was great. Service, sides cocktails etc. The steak was a bit of a let down unfortunately. Got a dry aged cote de boeuf ordered medium rare (which was not cheap) and it arrived undercooked and already sliced up (sharing steak) so could hardly send it back. Probably worth ordering it a stage more well done than you are used to. My opinion obviously.

Had a fantastic meal for one here - travelling with work and didn’t have a reservation but was able to squeeze up on the ‘bar’ seat by the window and watch the world go by whilst devouring a great steak. Desert was to die for. Check this place out!

Celebrated our anniversary here 27 Dec and what a great night. The service was outstanding and the steaks are the best we have eaten anywhere. Plenty of parking in the surrounding area too. Clean, warm and friendly atmosphere with all covid measures in place. These guys really know how to cook meat, well done chefs. Well done guys, can't wait to be back. Chris and Lindsay.

Excellent quality of food. Service was fantastic and a lovely vibrant atmosphere. We went with our 4 week old baby and were made very welcome. Would highly recommend 👌
T. R.
This spot has a fantastic food and drinks menu with friendly and knowledgeable staff, perfect for a high quality steak!
L. M.
Absolutely brilliant Sunday lunch. The roast was phenomenal. Generous portions, really tasty, perfectly cooked meat. Service was great too, very attentive staff. Highly recommend.
L. M.
Best steak in Glasgow! We had the ox cheek and bone marrow starter which was 10/10 and then ribeye mains 👌🏼ps: you may think that the steak looks small, but actually those langoustines were huge!
S. H.
The petit fours and coffee are reason enough to visit here. The food is of a far superior standard than nearly everything I've experienced in Glasgow. Fresh, flavourful and well presented. The staff were very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. We will definitely be back.

Great!!
Everything was incredibly good! From the starters, to the main and the dessert! Excellent quality food and even better service. Will be back!

Enjoyed a lovely meal here tonight with my boyfriend, his brother and girlfriend. We ordered the Porter house and cote de boeuf to share. The beef dripping chips were there best chips I've ever tasted, the steaks were delicious. The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Porter and rye. Il definently be back.

One of the best meals I've had. The bone marrow and ox cheek starter was something I hadn't tried before but was pleasantly surprising - very tasty in combination with the pesto and pepper crisp; the fillet steak was superb, cooked rare and served with peppercorn & brandy sauce and triple-cooked chips; the dessert - lemon frangipane with ginger sorbet - was delicious. Three excellent courses coupled with great wine and a coffee to finish, along with excellent service from the staff. Highly recommended!!

We were so excited about a trip to the highly rated Porter & Rye, really unfortunate that they failed to deliver the simple things that let the food down. Couldn't fault the service, which was warm, friendly and welcoming. Where I feel the meal was really let down was the cooking and seasoning. Our Scallop starter was tasty but lacked a puree or something moist/sharp as the whole dish was a little dry and a bit on the sweet side, the sweetcorn succatash on the wood pigeon dish was bland and had no seasoning at all. The steaks were good but we had ordered a medium rare sirloin which turned out to be rare, we also ordered a bearnaise sauce which had zero acidity or salt and tasted of just tarragon and egg/butter so basically bland, clearly some elements of dishes had not been tasted by the chefs before being served These details are something that a steak restaurant of Porter & Rye's prestige should be nailing consistently, particularly at the prices they charge which would be fair if everything was on point. When we brought the points about the undercooked steak and bland bearnaise to our waitresses attention she said she would let the kitchen and manager know and no offer of reduction on the bill or complimentary drinks was offered. Again not our servers fault at all but very disappointed that for our fairly pricey meal we left a little disappointed all because of a couple of minutes under cooking and lack of a pinch of salt/splash of vinegar here and there, this is the difference between an average meal and an exceptional one.
J. B.
With no exaggeration, the best steak I've ever had. I'd been once before and brought my grandparents when we visited Glasgow last week, and it was just as fantastic the second time around!
H. K.
Surpassed expectations. The food, cocktails and service were all exceptional. Steak was perfectly cooked (rare) and full of flavour (I didn't even add the sauce it was so tasty). Friendly and attentive service. Fair prices for the quality.
S. S.
Absolutely superb dining experience was had in here. The warm friendly welcome coupled with attentive staff all made for a delightful first visit. I will not forget the food which was heavenly and to perfection. My partner and I left with smiling faces, happy with what we had. I for one will be back in the not to distant future.
Food: Charcuterie to share.
Chateaubriand with skinny fries and beef dripping cooked chips. Peppercorn sauce and roast garlic and herb butter sauce.
Apple & Fig bavarois and petit fours.

Meal
Was delicious and staff very friendly.

Located in the trendy and bustling Finnieston area of Glasgow, Porter & Rye is also a stone's throw from the exhibition centre train station. Makes your meal easy to get to, and if you fancy a tipple afterwards, you're spoilt for choice before your train journey home.
Porter & Rye itself is contemporary and cool - a relaxed 'New York' inspired setting that doesn't feel too try-hard. Style points for the fact that guests get to choose their own steak knife. Brownie points to our waitress for putting up with me for an evening, as I am so terribly awkward.
As for the menu itself - everything that you'd except of a steak restaurant is here, from your standard fillet to your chateaubriand.
I had my fillet 'blue' and it ticked all the boxes, a superb texture and subtle taste that melted away in the mouth. However, award for MVP actually goes to the Bone Marrow Mac & Cheese, which was probably the best Mac & Cheess I've ever been served. (Sorry, Gran!)
To their credit, the Dessert selection wasn't populated with the usual suspects. Though, sadly for me, I'm a stickler for a fudge/toffee based dessert, of which there weren't any.
Settled for a healthy selection of cheeses on a board.
Supplementals; Wines - great selection to compliment the menu, I personally recommend the Malbec.
Cocktails; Another great spread of selections. I stepped out into the maelstrom with the self-titled 'Porter & Rye' which I simply don't think I could order again. Definitely a boozy sipper that doesn't mesh well with my sweet tooth. Highly recommend if that's your game, though.
All in all, fantastic experience & beautifully cooked meats. The only thing I'd do is inject a little more sweetness into the dessert and cocktail experiences.
G. H.
Outstanding meal, nice touch with the bubbly & petit fours as it was a special birthday celebration. Top class service from booking through to leaving after our meal. Thank you
S. J. L.
Friendly staff. Very helpful with wine choice ☺️
J. N.
Went last week. Lovely atmosphere and decor and service. The food didn't quite live up to expectations. Lacked the taste of dry aged meat. I ordered medium rare but got blue. See the pics. I used to have blue so it was ok, but you get tired of chewy food after a while. The chocolate dessert was good but the frangipane tart was dense and dry
R. P.
Walked in from Majestic laundromat across the street during the day. I read the menu outside and was interested in their dry aged beef
Can highly recommend dining here as the food and service were superb
We had starters, main and dessert with a great bottle of red wine, after a few local lagers to kick it off
Everything was prepared and thought through before being delivered at our table
Wonderful

Found this place when Googling for somewhere to eat whilst staying at the SEC. Not cheap, but thoroughly enjoyable. First time for clapshot and clootie dumplings. Never heard of them before in fact. Chateaubriand was delicious. Would be happy to return one day. Recommended, but I would advise making a reservation.
K. C.
Overall fabulous meal.Steak cooked to perfection Sunday roast looks amazing definitely return
M. K.
Can’t recommend this place enough for Sunday lunch. Great beef lots of trimmings and the Brouilly 2019 was better than good
C. J. A.
Outstanding steak restaurant. Everything from the greeting at the door to the last mouthful is absolutely top notch.
S.
Service is good and friendly. The Beef braised cheeks and Shin I think was 'melt in the mouth' soft and tender, delicious. However, the 'star' main course that I went in the restaurant for was a disappointment. Presentation good, but the brisket roast as well as the vegs were over cooked and the gravy was tasteless!
I would give 3stars really for the price of this Sunday roast menu, but I have given the 4th star due to the 'berries panna cotta with cherry ice cream'. It was well balanced creaminess with the tart berries and delicious cherry ice cream.
2 out of 3 courses were good, may be it was the Chef's off day? Will visit again to try other items on the menu.
t. l.
Get a drink so you won't think the wait for the food being too long (still within acceptable range). Food was 4 star (venison tartar would be better if diced smaller; rabbit starter was overall too meaty in texture; steak was good but not wow), but service was 5 star. Staff cared a lot about diners' experience. Overall good experience.
N. A.
I am very glad we saved our visit for a time when we got £10 off each! We waited an hour for our food to arrive and unfortunately the chateaubriand we ordered was overpriced for what we got. It lacked flavour and the sides are not very big. Aside from that, the venue is very cute and would suit a dinner date atmosphere.
G. G.
Really excellent. Can't fault it. 6 of us all ordered different cuts and everyone was blown away. Service was top class and they do this cool thing where you get to choose your own steak knife from a selection on a wooden board they bring to the table. It's a lovely restaurant. We had a great table upstairs by the window too. Honestly, I can't recommend this place highly enough.
G. C.
Fantastic!! Got meal for 2 as a Xmas present and the whole experience was great. Lovely cozy atmosphere and friendly attentive staff. Steak is top class and wild pheasant mousse starter is delicious. Definitely be back again!
L. H.
Shared the Porterhouse steak with my girlfriend and have to say, probably the best steak I've ever eaten. Perfectly cooked and the service was just as good. Attentive but not intrusive.
K. M.
Sunday lunch was phenomenal, words can't describe how good it is. Service was 1st class too.
I. C.
If your thing is beef steak this the place to go. Everything we ordered was delicious. Warning: don't eat all day before you step inside and indulge yourself.
D.
If steak is what you are looking for this is THE place to go, Absolutely fantastic. Great quality food, very helpful staff. Would highly recommend.
M. C.
Service was lovely food was OK.
Very expensive. A gristly ribeye nearly £40 when a t-bone was £48 who costed that and 1 side and sauce? So you either get chips or veg! Come on... At least give us a complete meal
C. B.
Nice place, cosy and welcoming. If you don't like your steak very pink order well done as my wife found the medium cooked porterhouse a bit under for her but I liked it. Also the porter and rye cocktail is a must.
c. c.
Amazing food. Brilliant service. Will defo be back.
C. G.
Spectacular service, friendly and attentive staff, food was over and above! Highly recommended
c. m.
Great relaxed sunday lunch in a intimate setting. Food was very tasty and the wine menu was great too.
R. F.
Our 3rd time back and it was just as good as the 1st - definitely a contender for the best steak I'm Glasgow. Service was great and love the vibe.
L. H.
Absolutely delicious meal! Service excellent, thank you.
L. B.
Amazing food, cooked to perfection. Flavours of the starters and sides 👌. The meat is to die for, but the best compliment has to be to the service. Can't recommend this more highly to anyone who loves steak.
J. P.
Most importantly, the food here is unbelievable! The steak was of course amazing, but the sides were also absolutely top-notch (I was obsessed with the beef/pancetta mac & cheese). The service was super quick and friendly, and the atmosphere is cosy/intimate inside.
Contrary to what a previous review has said, there was a comprehensive range of drinks (a full bar - cocktail list, wine list, pints of beer and cider on draught and in cans/bottles, soft drinks).
It's not cheap at all, but you really do get what you pay for (and probably then some) - perfect for a treat/celebration/foodie.
N. M.
Really good food, amazing wine and great atmosphere... just wasnt a fan of being sat under the stairs however excellent as always!
S. m.
Lovely place and great atmosphere. The sirloin steak was to die for. Heavily recommend it.
D. C.
Great quality steak, attentive staff and a really nice atmosphere. The design of the restaurant is well considered and feels very contemporary but also elegant. Fair prices considering the quality of the food & drink. A solid choice for dinner if you're in this area of Glasgow - and it's advisable to book a table in advance due to the (understandable) popularity of the place. Also, fantastic, unusual cocktails - definitely worth sampling a few of them!
C.
Thoroughly enjoyed my meal (surloin steak rare!) and the staff were ever so helpful. Nice wee surprise for our anniversary celebration.
K. T.
Amazing restaurant, fantastic stakes and tremendous cocktails!
Do go..!
S. H.
Wow!!! Bfs birthday treat and we were blown away. Amazing service too thank you guys ❤️
M. M.
Superb steaks. Really the best! Brought my lead investor for the business here for dinner he was well impressed with the food.
C. O.
I wanted to love it here. Great location. Really nice inside.
The rest of just personal taste and others may like it but the fillet steak, while cooked well, just wasn't (in my opinion) of the same quality as other premium steak oriented places. Also, the fries were coated in what tasted like garlic which is not for me either.
Not to my taste.
S. G.
Great Steak House, really friendly staff, great food & service. Very coliac friendly to a member of our party. Would recommend.
A. K.
We stopped in to eat about 3pm on a Sunday, with a 14mo infant and no reservation. They were able to seat us near the back. Service was great, food was excellent (their Sunday roast was so good!), Not to mention how kind they were about the baby.
We loved their amuse buche, so unexpected at that time of day too, and I ordered a soup to start that I swear I'm still dreaming about. Chef even went out of his way to customize my companion's burger, which I didn't get to try since it was gone before I could ask about it.
Absolutely worth a visit (or several).
K. M.
Nice steak and good service We were here for lunch and everything was good but I found the atmosphere very lacking (it was quiet). I could understand this but I also found the booth-style tables just too small. I’m not big and I found myself having to sit awkwardly to avoid my knees being in direct contact with the person opposite. They charge good prices here, so it would be good to have comfortable tables. They’ve clearly tried to get more tables by making them small. A shame as otherwise I’d have liked it.
G. M.
Awesome Rib Eye, so tender, expertly cooked, fantastic service. Almost forgot to mention the delicious Ox tail soup.
J. S.
Fantastic family meal food is amazing and the staff are so friendly and helpful very relaxing atmosphere x
C. P.
First time here and it did not disappoint. Food was excellent, cooked to perfection too. Really lovely surroundings and good location. Well worth visiting for sure.
A. R.
Fantastic food and service. I'm not normally a reviewer but my experience last night has pushed me to tell the world. Really excellent and honest service. Many thanks
K. M.
Fantastic little place. Decent menu and delicious food - not just the steak but also the starters were lovely. Staff are really friendly and attentive, very happy to cater to special requests and dietary requirements. Would definitely recommend, perfect for a date night!
M. M.
We had booked a Wednesday evening to take advantage of the eat out to help out scheme, but upon arriving we found to be double booked. We accepted that these things happen and would of been more than happy if they offered to honour the deal another night instead, Porter and Rye went above and beyond that. They offered us to come back the following evening and have the entire meal for free! I thought this meant a main meal for free, but they insisted we had a starter, main, desserts and bottle of wine! The staff were all amazing and very accomodating, the food was delicious, and you'd be hard pressed to find better steaks in Glasgow. Presentation, atmosphere, setting etc was all above standard. We will definitely be back, and have recommended this place to our friends and family.
C. C.
My girlfriend and I are a struggle for a restaurant. I have a gluten intolerance and she has a nut allergy. We were very well acomodated at Porterrter and Rye
Brilliant service and they made a great effort to accommodate us. Not to mention the food and drink was exceptional. The service was so attentive to our needs it may have been the best part. The staff went out of their way to make sure we could enjoy our experience. 10/10
K. R.
Great steak highly recommend🤙🤙
J. R.
Without a doubt the best steak, if not the best meal, I have ever had. Top notch staff who were friendly and knowledgeable enough to talk through the menu with you, great selection of beers, wines and cocktails. A bit pricey but totally worth it: will be coming back for sure.
s. w.
Absolutely lovely, delicious food, service was outstanding, it felt like all the staff truly loved their jobs, and we're very kind when I asked for a cocktail recommendation (the interlude was recommended and I stuck to it the whole meal, a delightful drink!) Thankyou to everyone who made sure we were looked after and had a good dinner!
P. M.
Celebrating with a birthday dinner at P&R Sat 7th March Food great . Lovely atmosphere and very attentive staff.
a. m.
Went here on the off chance with a group from work. Had the Tuesday special flat steak, side , sauce and carafe house wine £40 For 2 people. No flat steak left so they upgraded us to rump at no additional cost. Also brought amuse buch and bread. Food and wine was very good. Will definitely be back
J. C.
Had read some good reviews of this place so my cousin and I bought a voucher to try it out. They didn't have options of all the steaks on offer, so we were offered a replacement. Both the steaks were actually a bit of a letdown. The sides were ok, but portions of these were small. There are better steak restaurants out there for this price range.
A. Y.
Had an absolutely lovely meal here - I opted for the ribeye steak cooked rare and it arrived perfectly. Loads of flavour in the food, coupled with fantastic friendly service, and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend a visit. One word of warning for those not keen on steaks cooked towards the rare end is that even the medium cooked sirloin which was ordered arrived pretty rare - just for a heads up!
D. O.
Amazing meal last night. Steaks cooked to perfection and a wide array of sauces and butters to accompany it. Starters were very good as well and staff friendly and attentive, but not overly so. which I prefer. Had high expec6goibg from the reviews I'd read and was not disappointed.
C. C.
Came here for their Wednesday deal. Which was a beautiful rump steak with two sides and wine for two. My boyfriend and I ordered the Mac and cheese which was really nice and could be a main on its own. We ordered the beef dripping chips as well which was alright. The steak was cooked beautifully. It's 40 pounds in total which I think is a fair price to pay for a well cooked steak, with nice sides and wine too.
C. M.
Best steak ever. Makes me wonder what I've been eating all these years if this is what steak is supposed to taste like. Menu was wide ranging provided you want steak. Staff were amazing. Very welcoming and friendly. Couldn't recommend more. Slightly pricey but totally worth every penny.
j.
Steaks were outstanding and staff were brilliant
L. C.
Great steaks, great wine list. Getting to choose your own steak knife is a nice touch. Steak is always perfectly cooked, sides are lovely. Treated to an amuse bouche last time as well! Pricey, as you would expect for a proper steak restaurant, but well worth the money.
M.
Highly recommended restaurant from work colleagues and friends alike. My first visit was a huge success, the chips were good and the steak was cooked to perfection. Although the seating area is a bit cramped. Good for a romantic meal.
M. G.
We walked in kinda like accident. They were not serving just drinks which is fine so we ordered some food. The mc and cheese were ok, nothing otherworldly. The wild mushrooms pretty bad, tasteless which is concerning on mushrooms. Same with the croquettes. And very very high prices for those items for such a low flavour profile and no wow factor at all. Would have to try again on a more serious dinner to decide but not pleased for now.
D. M.
Great Sunday lunch and lovely red wine
J. F.
What a treat!
My misses surprised me with a leisurely Saturday lunch, at this fabulous wee restaurant. We had wanted to go to for an age. It did not disappoint.
The setting is Fab. A lovely use of space with the mezzanine floor, finished to an exacting standard with a stylish and functional hand.
Beef cuts are nicely display in prominent chillers. Our lunch was leisurely and tasty. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Our waitress was attentive, fun and recommended the perfect wine pairing – Papale Linea Oro.
What a treat! Treat someone you like to this gem of a restaurant.
C. J.
Just had a lovely lunch with my husband -we had been looking forward to this for ages .We were not disappointed ,the food was magnificent and the experience excellent as always!!We were very spoiled by Kerry and Linda who were just perfect -they certainly are not only perfectionists at their jobs but so friendly too!!Thanks ladies We will be back!!!!
D. S.
Great steak and great quality but at a price. Great choice of wines and craft beers too There a vegetarian options but with dry aged beef of show it's definitely not a meat free environment. Carnivore heaven!
C. K.
Best coin toss decision ever made.
We went in, were seated within seconds and out of nowhere we were served a complimentary basket of breads and some sort of dipping sauce. The bread was amazing on it's own, but dipped in the sauce... I'd have been happy with more of that instead of a main course.
But then the rib-eye burger arrived... With the first bite you can taste the chargrilled smokiness. I had a fantastic BBQ sauce with it but felt it'd be criminal putting it on the burger and taking away from the taste of the meat, likewise the amazing beef dripping chips I had as my side. Words cannot describe how good these were, so I'll just leave it there.
Final word... Probably the tastiest burger in Glasgow. Great atmosphere. Brilliant & friendly service.
S. J.
Pretty cramped. Our table was directly outside a disabled toilet, no way in hell anybody in a wheelchair could have accessed the loo without our whole table being uprooted. Toilets were not great either. Food was pretty good though and staff were on the ball with regards to the meat on offer. I had a ribeye at £40. It was pretty good. Wasn't much else on the plate, very small portion of chips and a small salad.
L. B.
Bloody great restaurant! Lovely steaks and chips. I had the truffel chips and they were exquisite.
The place is quiet and cosy, and you can see the dry aged beef.
You get a selection of knives, from ones the size a pen, to big whoppers!
Must visit whilst your stay in Scotland. Whether you like cocktails or steak.
J. L.
Being from Alberta, CA, I still have to say our beef is better but it was pretty damn close. Way better than anything I've had in the US. The porter house steak I ordered for myself was cooked perfectly and the butter that you get on the side was great. The choices of sides were also great (gonna be using this word alot) we ordered the parm truffle fries, broccoli and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese were out of this world. We've never had it done like this before. The service was great. He was attentive but not too in your face. The greatest part about the restaurant was the bartender. He made the best old fashion I've ever had. He took his time and wow did it show.
K. L.
Excellent quality beef, friendly and reasonably efficient service. Interesting venue. Lunch menu £20 for 3 courses, so higher end, but you get what you pay for when it comes to beef. Broad wine list with very good selection of wines by the glass or carafe.
M.
Steak was excellent. Cosy atmosphere and good wine and varied sides choices.
A. M.
Great attentive service, ordered the rib-eye burger which was dare I say it...beautiful! I was giggling like a wee girl after the first bite. So that sums up how good a bloody burger they do. Great selection of beers to go alongside as well. Decor is really cool, laid back atmosphere with great music. Desert was a chocolate salted caramel tart which was rich and a great way to end a lovely lunch!
C. T.
Weeks later and we are still talking about this restaurant! The steak was well worth every penny!!! The staff are all friendly and overlooking the bar was a pleasant surprise. Speaking of the bar, the drinks were refreshing and delicious!
L. S.
This was a lovely little place, quite cosy and just the right amount of attention from the staff.
Obviously, the main attraction of this place is the meat. They dry age quality meat onsite and I would try to describe how delicious the taste and texture was, but I lack the words.
Instead, let's talk about the sides, specifically the mac & cheese. I've had all sorts in various countries but this is hands down the best I've ever had, even my mum's (sorry mum ;) ) No, really, it's that good.
Make sure you book a table and enjoy this wee gem.
C. A.
Quite easily the best Steakhouse I have been to. The entire meal was amazing. I would recommend everyone try the bone marrow mac and cheese. It's worth going for alone! The staff are friendly and helpful and take the time to talk you through the menu and your options. We visited for a birthday meal and were not disappointed at all. I can not wait to go back
C. W.
The staff are friendly and efficient. The steaks are delicious and very high quality. It's expensive but you get what you pay for. You even get to choose your own steak knife. This is not a good restaurant for vegetarians; or anyone who doesn't want steak.
D. P. (.
One of Glasgow's finest. Awesome vibe, steaks, and staff.
M. J.
Yeah. Very good. Good steaks. Lovely sides. Decent portions. Nice wines. Lovely service. Hard to fault it really. So I won't. Go here !
M. M.
OK: so on my first visit, the food was overseasoned; I was going to rate 3🌟. But, it was handled right. And: the cocktails (Cal!) . And the details...
This is a 5 star establishment by Glasgow standards. 4 star national standards.
The real deal.
Try them.
You won't regret it.
A. L.
So yummy! The porterhouse was cooked perfectly! We also got bone marrow Mac and cheese which I enjoyed and my bf got the beef dripping chips which he liked. The service was excellent he gave us specials and information about the meat, but wasn’t to pushy. They let you pick a specific knife for your steak cutting desires which is a nice added touched my boyfriend really enjoyed that part. And it was a very reasonably priced for the amount of food we got! Definetly will return.
E. M.
Wow. Always sceptical about steak places, this wowed me. Staff is attentive and knowledgeable, they make feel welcome from the moment you enter; food is amazing and steaks are cut and cooked to your liking. Will be coming back.
K. B.
We had the most amazing dinner ever! Chateaubriand is to kill for, no need for knife, it's such a good quality! Halibut fresh & juicy, rabbit saddle I can't even describe how good it was. Truffle salt fries are an absolute hit, desserts seem all to be homemade including ice cream & biscuits. My daughter fell in love with chocolate tart, so smooth and creamy. Great music & very friendly staff. I would give more stars if they were available!
F. H.
Love the food, delicious every time! And it's hard not to stare at the meat hanging in the fridge too...
B. B. C.
A lovely birthday meal at Porter & Rye yesterday evening. Easily one of the best steaks we've had along with a great selection of whiskeys to try.
Also thank you for the birthday surprise at the end, you guys have out done yourselves. We'll be back soon for you.
Best steak in Glasgow by far!!
M.
Delicious, well cooked steak in a laid back environment. The accompanying sides such as the mac and cheese were a treat. Even the amuse bouche and bread were yummy. Service was very good too, being both attentive and friendly. Overall a great dining experience.
Not exactly the cheapest (well, it's steak),but well worth it. You can even take advantage of their wednesday and thursday evening deals.
Y. D.
Fab food! Worth the experience. Locally sourced food at its best. Excellent service too. Even people who don't normally like steak have been converted here. I will be going back.
A. S.
Lovely little place, amazing food! We weren't planning on coming here, but it was the only place we could get into in the area without a reservation (which can sometimes can be a bad sign!) and wow! It ended up being the highlight of our night. Everything we had was outstanding. They could expand their beer selection, in my opinion, but other than that, such a beautiful place. The service was really great, too. We'll definitely be back!
H. F.
Used a Groupon deal to get the chateaubriand steak which came with a side and a sauce each. The food was delicious, just a little expensive if you don't have a voucher deal! The red wine jus and peppercorn sauce were very tasty though. There's a good selection of wine too. There's a cool atmosphere to the place overall.
g.
Awesome place to eat. Steaks are large and generous. The place has about 12 tables so it makes for a very intimate dining experiance. Highly recommended trying this restaurant
M. W.
Fabulous food, wonderful service - every time we want steak, this is the place
J. M.
Sunday roast.. if you haven't tried it, do so!
d. B.
Nice selection of wines here.
Meat counter looks good, not eaten here though.
Seems to be doing good dry aged meat.
Well worth trying some nice wines on the menu for sure.
A. “. S.
Fabulous Steak. Amazing Gigha halibut - beautifully cooked.
As a change, have the beef dripping chips rather than the fries, the taste is sublime with steak.
Really interesting cocktails - a welcome change to the usual to be found in the majority of West end bars
D. M.
Don't hold a great stock of beers so what's on the menu isn't always available so prepare for disappointment although steak is good !!
Quite a small cramped venue not ideal, so you are better off at The Butchers shop along the road.
I received a generic " how was your meal" feedback form which I responded to but no one bothered answering me so customer service service is not great either.
M. W.
Lovely tasy steak. The marrow bone Mac n cheese was the best. Staff excellent. Would definitely dine there again. Desert was delicious.
T. P.
Very good, but pricey.
J. W.
Absolutely brilliant meal and drinks with amazing service. Highly recommended!
L. P.
Absultely brilliant every time we go! Mentioned briefly on the phone it was my boyfriends birth and he got 4 week cakes and a plate with happy birthday. The server was fabulous!
J. C.
Amazing steak, check with the chef as to what they can recommend. Great wine and service. Lynda and her team perfect front of house
M. H.
Good steaks and adventurous sides. Very much reminds me of a steakhouse in the States. Great for date night if you want to impress a lady and have a few dollars to spend
J. I.
I had the wood pigeon for starter however found a piece of metal in it which I wouldn't have expected. I would advise if you are going for that dish to be cautious as the staff seemed to think there is a possibility of metal being in the pigeon as it is organic. Besides that the other dishes were good albeit slightly underwhelming.
A. B.
My favourite place for a steak in Glasgow! Excellent service in a small little restaurant in the Finnieston. Love the quirky touche such as choosing your weapon (steak knife) and the little taster you receive whilst waiting on your starters.
c. j.
Beautiful ribeye with beef dripping chips and a wonderful sauce.
Wine pairing was recommended by my waitress and suited it superbly.
J. F.
Great food and good service thanks
C. D.
Service from staff distracted by regulars. Order incorrect incurring over charge however corrected. Far too warm as heater under seat. Meant to be special occasion but would not rush back
H. M.
Super place. Were having delicious cocktails and then decided to spontaneously have some food up by the bar. The staff were very friendly and perfectly attentive.
C. M.
Still the best steak ever. Cocktail list is really fun and inventive as well. My go to every time I return to Glasgow.
C. S.
Had a Chateaubriand and it was the best steak I've even had. Great cocktails and the bone marrow Mac and Cheese was amazing. Highly recommended!
P. L.
Lovely wee place. Didn't know it was that nice as you can easily walk past it as it just looks like a pub from the outside. They specialise in beef, they had a huge bit of cow hanging on display in one of their fridges.
N. R.
Food was very very good. Service was exceptional and very personal. Drinks were also nice, just dont get their house gin based one! i can handle drinks but jesus that was a strong one!!
M. v.
I was so excited to visit porter & rye, that perhaps that has ruined a bit of the experience. Food and surroundings are nice, but service is veeeeery slow. Not a everyday dining place but perhaps an occasion type of place. Only one vegetarian option on the menu so quite limited target market.
H. J.
Excellent fillet steaks, cooked just to my taste. Service was friendly and staff very knowledgeable, relaxing comfortable atmosphere.
S. T.
Great food, great staff and great service. Loved it. Only downside, seats are a bit close , no stretch room. Then again that's just us oldies.
D. K.
Very small place to eat. Bit crammed. Food was amazing as was service. Toilets not great. Would go back for the quality of the food and kind helpful staff. Xx
C. P.
Food good; got a bit hot on the mezzanine, staff weren't very attentive when we were there. Had to ask for our table to be cleared after main course & ask if we could order dessert/coffee 🤔
N. L.
Fab food! Steak cooked to perfection. Helpful staff & great attention to detail. Well worth a visit.
c. s.
Only went here for cocktails when everywhere else in Glasgow shut down at midnight. Really tasty and whilst looking at food menu, vowed to visit again. Nice staff
t. t.
The flat iron steak was divine. The crab starter was light and fresh. Tangy pineapple carppacio for dessert was a nice finish.
D. F.
Good quality steak, well cooked. Great triple cooked chips.

J. C.
I found everything about the place to be first class. From arriving and being seated through the meal to leaving I was very happy about everything. It was my first time there but I will certainly be back.
F. H.
Appreciate it’s a steak restaurant but a few more vegetarian options for those dinning with others would be appreciated.
E. P.

(Translated) When I think about dinner at Porter & Rye, my mouth is still watering. We were in the mood for a nice meat dinner and we were completely satisfied.
It is rated as one of the best in Glasgow and has every reason to be considered one.
We ordered duck meat croquettes, bread with butter, a T-Bone with pepper sauce and a bavette with blue cheese sauce. All very good!

(Translated) The business card of this restaurant is the ripened meat fridge. It's a good idea. I was advised and suggested a piece that suited my meager appetite that day. To my taste, they overcooked it even though I asked if I wanted it almost raw, but still, the experience was worth it.
