Reviews of Rogano

When visiting the Rogano it was a very relaxing atmosphere. The waitress that served us was very helpful and attentive. The meal was lovely and the cocktails went down a treat. Would highly recommend the skiitake haggis dish. Wasn't my usual way to have haggis but was unusual and very delicious.

Deserves way more than 5 stars!
Old school posh decor that makes it feel like an immersive experience into the 80’s but it really works! The food was excellent!
Best scallops I’ve ever tasted.
Reliable tasty oysters.
S. B.
Excellent - it's a little dates and could do with being freshened up. The food was excellent - the Rockefeller and Mornay oysters were incredible. The hot seafood platter was spectacular. Also the deserts was lovely.

Had a fabulous two course lunch coffee, teas & petit fours with family. The staff were excellent and served well, special mention to our server as it was only his 3rd day on the job. Very well done. We were complimented on our choices from the menu. It was a tough decision to choose just one meal so return visits are in order. We were given plenty if time to read the menus and decided to skip starters and have desserts instead. Food is cooked to order so we didn't mind a shirt wait and filled than time with some delicious warmed flavoured bread rolls, onion and olive. Scottish salmon fillet, Scandanavian cod and pork loin arrived, well presented, excellently cooked and tasted amazing. Desserts of Raspberry Panna Cota, brownie with vanilla ice cream and an orange & Almond cake with syrup and orange curd ice cream, all were beautiful. Somehow we managed to have space for the petit fours, coffee & teas. The whole experience ensured we all had a fabulous time. Looking forward to returning.

This restaurant lived up to my expectations. Classic Art Deco style. Great atmosphere with attentive and friendly waiters. Fresh fish and seafood, excellent cuisine and wine selection. Highly recommend.

I have been going to this restaurant since I was a young girl I feel privileged to have also celebrated my 60th there fabulous food and great service!!

Went for my birthday and had a lovely meal great drinks in a really relaxed atmosphere. So chilled had the best time. Matahari and Rockefeller oysters are a must.
C. H.
The food was fabulous, very attentive staff, great location, decor amazing, 1930's art deco ocean liner. Skip 9 months later my 2nd visit and I had been craving home made rice pudding for a week, can't believe it was on the menu, and tasted just like mum used to make

Fantastic old building and the interior is amazing you can see why it gets picked up for movie/tv shoots. The service was amazing throughout the evening, we had cocktails oysters and a set menu, we were surprised with a scallop bisque complimentary and a pate in a choux pastry bun which was beautiful. Everything was cooked excellently and we had a brilliant time. I would highly recommend this as a place to go if you like me haven’t been to Glasgow before they were very helpful suggesting places to go.

5 star for food but carpets etc needed desperately. The food and drinks deserve a 5 star rating but decor will always let it down. It won't stop me going back though!
R. M.
This place is interesting, but I think a little more hyped up than it should be.
Definitely has great ambiance and has an outdoor seating area, a bar seating area, a fine dining area as well as a bar downstairs. You can make reservations at all of the locations except the upstairs bar. The food was really good, the Eton mess was delicious and my friend had the fish soup which was outstanding. I also highly recommend the mussels. We tried the gin slow fizz , which was incredible, and I highly recommend it. However, while the food was good it wasn't very memorable except for the gin fizz and the Eton mess.
I would also say that the wait staff was incredibly good with us except for one person who was a little pushy. They came over and described the drinks, helped us with recommendations on size and portions and were on top of our table for refills on bread and water.
Probably would recommend this place for booze and dessert. Its in Merchant City so when you're in the area, good stop to have a client dinner or drinks with a friend at the bar. It's not super loud so you can have a conversation without trouble. We also managed to get a booth pretty easily

Birthday treat with my family. Recommended the seafood risotto
M. M.
Staff warm, welcoming, knowledgeable and efficient. Surroundings beautifully retro. Food and drink very enjoyable . Altogether a great experience.
S. Q.
Great lunch!! Oysters followed by beautifully cooked trout, washed done by Gewurtzraminer. Excellent service from Euan.
B. M.
Great surroundings and equally great food.
J. C.
The most perfect restaurant experience in Glasgow. A beautiful bar and restaurant, high level of service, perfectly prepared meals. A must when in Glasgow.
S. I.
first visit and it was lovely, definitely come again
H. H.
Glasgow institution been serving locals and visitors for over 80 years. Wonderful atmosphere friendly staff and great food at reasonable prices.
T. L.
Faded jaded dated, just have the set menu and people watch. Make sure you are watchable too, don't be underdressed, will you.
C. W.
I went here for lunch. The service was fantastic, those around me seemed to be having a good experience too, the design of the place was very appealing too. I ordered some sea bass and it was truly perfect. The waiters constantly ensured my meal was fine and I was having a wonderful service. I would most definitely come back here and recommend it to others. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
J. G.
Food was fantastic, great service nice and relaxing good atmosphere
R. D.
This oyster bar and seafood restaurant is an experience you'll cherish. I got the seafood platter and it was almost as if I could taste the sea. The produce is fresh and delicious and the decor is old school and full of class. The service is excellent as well.
I. W.
This is my favourite restaurant in Glasgow city center. The food is excellent, service is always top notch. Whether you dine in the main restaurant or the Cafe Rogano downstairs the ambience is fantastic.
Sometimes if I'm not going in for a meal I will stop in for a soup and a sandwich deal. Always get great deals.
Check it out if you get a chance. You won't be disappointed. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
T. S.
We did the set menu and it was lovely great value for money. The only complaint was that it was a tad cold from the air conditioning for February and they do add on a service charge. Our bill was £96 and with charge £108!
m. m.
Excellent relatively inexpensive fish restaurant. Top quality cooking and quiet in- obtrusive service. Lunch ( table d'hote ) 2 courses both excellent .Price under £16.00.If you are on a budget just watch the wine prices. Then retire to the terrace. Cigar and brandy.
P. M.
Outstanding food and service. A legendary eateries in Glasgow and we'll deserving of such a fine reputation.
Yes it is more expensive than most places but the standard of ingredients, cooking, presentation, surroundings and staff fully justify the cost.
Would definitely recommend for a treat.
S. J.
Just lovely!
I've been here serval times over the years and it never disappoints.
Lovely food, nice staff and reasonably priced.
Recommended, especially if you like fish dishes.
T. T.
First time visitor very dated dirty old carpet on the way downstairs to the cafe the walls looked as though they had been smoked over. First the starter the salad was lovely but my partner was very disappointed with the prawn cocktail tiny cheap prawns and average sauce he loved his breaded fish though mine was very greasy not what I expected from the expertise supposed to be here. We bought an extra for our main supposed to be mangetout panchetta and tomatoes but was just mangetout. Don't know that we really want to try the main restaurant having been so disappointed with the cafe don't think we will be back.

The Rogano is like stepping back in time. It is beautiful inside and very tranquil. A oasis from the hustle and bustle of Glasgow.
The food was fantastic. The only negative was having 12.5% service charge put on the Bill, which I don't agree with. I always leave a tip. But on the whole a pleasant experience.
J. S.
Were at Rogano last night and have to say the food was very good however the service was very much lacking, unlike previous visits. Firstly we had to eventually ask for our complimentary bread and olives and at the end of the meal remind the staff we did not get our petit four. We had to ask for our starter plates to be cleared and when the mains arrived they were passed across the table and handed to one of our party. The staff were young and friendly but needed guidance from the manager who at times seemed unaware of what was happening. Also had a problem with the menu as one of our party is lactose intolerant and it was left to the young waitress to come back a forth with answers to our questions and eventually we gave suggestions as to what our guest could have. A restaurant of the Roganos reputation should be forward enough in their thinking to able to cope with allergies but apparently not.
For the time being it has put us off going back but no doubt we will give it another try
Also our guest is a restaurant critic in Sydney, she did rare the food but thought the service was extremely poor.
S. B.
Living on the memories of former glory, food was ok but cold dishes had to be sent back, scallops did not taste the freshest. Service was slow, and notes attentive as in the past. Gents toilet was a disgrace, the stench of urine was overwhelming, the automatic air freshener wasn't working but it really shouldn't be required to cover the stench from lack of cleaning.
For the money I would expect a it more. Won't be back in a hurry.
M. R.
Lovely food, art deco setting great vibe.
K. S.
My wife and I dined in restaurant and had 4 course taster menu. Food and service were excellent as always. Decor is old and a bit tired but that adds to the experience - long may it continue !
R. S.
A Glasgow institution for decades. Art deco interior from the craftsmen who fitted out the Clyde-built the world wide iconic Queens. The restaurant is one of Glasgow's finest fish eateries. But I was in the bar. Great for absorbing some of that decor, people watching and sipping Champagne. Great cocktails. Do not miss a visit if you are new to Glasgow or haven't been before.
I. S.
Went here with a Lady I wanted to impress, and she was duly impressed.
The early evening menu is a good price, £52 all up for us both with a drink and chips, 2 little complementary nibbles thrown in (Monday, quiet)
Nice quiet atmosphere, and nice food. Will return. Oh, and pleasant attentive staff
E. L.
I love this place, despite only going there twice in the last 15 years It oozes style and the cocktails are amazing. Go there, order the most exciting drink on the menu and don't think about how much the bill is - it's worth it.
R. H.
Very nice lunch in Cafe Rogano. Fish soup and croutons to start and smoked haddock mac and cheese for main. Both were lovely, especially the mac and cheese. Service was very good too.
K. M.
Lovely atmosphere, great food and wonderful service. They would get five except they did my pet gate and put on a service charge. I'll decide if the service is worth a tip thank you. If left to me the staff would have got a larger top, however on principle I just paid the service charge.
L. S.
A retirement dinner. Squeezed two large tables into a back room. Very cramped and a bit claustrophobic. Starter was salmon n very nice. Steak...not too good but sweet was lovely. Not as good as expected.
A. H.
Excellent white lady's, oysters good size and well presented. The champagne and cavier ones don't need the onion tho. Staff are brilliant, professional and curtious. Attentive without being overbearing.
R. H.
The scallops and crab were delicious and good service but their signature dish the fish soup was very underwhelming. Unseasoned and unbelievably bland. Tasted as if it contained watered down stock. Wish I sent it back.
M. M.
Lovely place to eat. A bit of a step back in time... but a good one!! Beautiful food and lovely thoughtful staff. Great gluten free selection.
C. W.
What a reassuring experience it is to dine in such a wonderful establishment of the highest standard. Excellent menu, carefully prepared fresh seafood, traditional well maintained decor, table linen and well trained and motivated waiting staff. Surprisingly reasonable pricing - I will certainly return. Our waiter 'RJ' was a wonderfully competent ambassador for the worthy Regano brand.
S. K.
We were in Glasgow on a cold and wet winter's day and we asked a passerby where we could go and he said this is where he was heading and invited us to join him. So glad we did cause we enjoyed many pints and plates of the best ever Oysters in the warmth of Rogano. I will be in Glasgow in another 3 weeks and I will definitely return there!
E. A.
The food here is really top notch. The decor is faded and a little shabby which personally I like - you can tell the place has been going since 1935.
The food and the service are both old fashioned. I like that. This isn't a new, buzzy place trying to appeal to a cool crowd.
While I was waiting for my food, I was given a few complementary tasting items (which were delicious). The waiters were friendly but not intrusive. I was made to feel comfortably at home.
I ate a salmon fillet which was cooked beautifully, and served with a simple but delicious sauce, some boiled potatoes and spring greens. I thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. For dessert I had the three citrus's and every one was delightful.
Mains are about £20 per head in the main restaurant. The wine list is extensive and only sold by the bottle, starting at £20. As I was dining alone I asked about wine by the glass and was offered three options for white. I tried a pinot and it was lovely. My entire bill for a main, a dessert and two glasses of wine was £37. The restaurant adds a 12.5% gratuity which I also like because it takes the stress out of dealing with a tip.
I'd recommend for a treat, a quiet meal, a place to take an older relative or a place to take yourself on your own for a bit of breathing space. I'll be going again.
S. M.
A Glasgow institution! Food was out of this world and the staff were fantastic. Loses one star as the toilets could do with an upgrade. They were a little shabby. Other than that, no complaints.
S. R.
Called in last week with friends who were visiting Glasgow for an afternoon drink, but then decided to have a meal which was excellent! The staff were very friendly and attentive! Congratulations to The Rogano in celebrating it's 80th Birthday! Everyone who works there makes you feel very welcome and I look forward to dining there again soon!
L. C.
Wonderful oysters (18of), disappointed no fish of the day any more, portions smaller, bring back fish of the day and raise prices, if you have to, but give a decent sized lunch (downstairs cafe). Also, gents toilet out of order, BASICS!!! Have been going here for 16 years, only thing I'd go back for are the oysters........ So sad 😔
J. J.
Husband and I were downstairs on Saturday afternoon in café Rogano for afternoon tea as upstairs was so busy. No problems in allowing us to share - we just loved it and the service was exceptional. Left with a lovely memory
P. R.
Just a special place. Quality restaurant with great cocktails and wine. Food was excellent. Very popular place you might even see a TV personality or pop star.
K. A.
Nice place with nice food
I. R.
Having visited Rogano for over 40 years, I'm afraid our recent visit was disappointing. The six of us had lunch in the main restaurant. The first disappointment was being told that due to the freezer and fridge breaking down, many of the items on the menu were unavailable. No suppliers nearby? They don't use fresh produce only frozen? No offer to take our coats. The lobster and chips were cold, this after a long wait. Nobody smiling and all round not what you would expect from a top restaurant.
A. K.
Fabulous restaurant with the warmest of welcomes. First class staff who are very attentive. Great atmosphere, decor and music. Worth a visit.
G. M.
Excellent tasting menu. Service very good.
P. N.
Fabulous and fantastic are the only words to describe this old Glasgow Institution. Great food and wines with friends and helpful staff. A must for anyone visiting Glasgow City Centre
b. D.
Absolutely wonderful...service was superb, waiters were perfect..food delicious..wonderful experience thank you. Australian guests so impressed. Always lovely to be at Rogano's
T. S.
Great atmosphere, excellent food. Fantastic restaurant to take loved ones for special occasions
M. M.
We popped in for a drink before going on to the theatre. We had a cocktail which was delicious I had a Bellini and my husband had a Matahari which was also delicious. Great service and great ambience.
G. A.
Fantastic menu, themed atmosphere, attentive staff, good spacious bar area for pre-meal drinks. Quality of food excellent. Really cannot go wrong with this well established and respected Gladgow Restaurant in prime central location.
R. S.
First time in Glasgow, came here as one of the top restaurants, was excited for it. Sadly, it didn't meet expectations. Monkfish tail main was overcooked and cold and the same time. Bread was slightly stale. Ham bon bons in the starter very dry. Rather average all round, though the Chardonnay by the glass was 👌
p. m.
Great food and service, first time we have had a table upstairs as I think the down stairs was being decorated, nice place and very good staff, always a favourite with us.
J. M.
Food quality still very high yet well priced and a nice atmosphere. One of the best Christmas menus I've had.
M. L.
Food and service very good. But to be honest given the prices you'd expect the place to be in better condition. The restaurant is now looking tired and the toilets were shabby and not well serviced
i. e.
Great service great food. Some of the portions of main course are small and wull not satisfy adult man (half crab)
Also you would expect that french fries in such restaurant will not be pre prepated defrozen cuts like in fast food. Rather then localy cut potetaos
C. G.
great food. great service, yes that's right, an oyster bar in glasgow.
Not just any oyster bar i tell ye. suprerb ambience. a little expensive for sure..but aren't we worth it occasionally!! go and enjoy.. if you miss this and any charles rennie mckintosh there is to see whilst in glasgow then your time has been misspent. :-)
PS. just a shame you can't skip and hop down to charlie parkers like we used to back in the day....great days.
T. F.
Had inexpensive lunch - £12 -two courses so maybe should not expect too much. But fish pie in dish with a fish shaped piece of puff pastry on top? Lazy cooking.
D. M.
Can't believe it's taken me so long to visit the infamous Rogano. We went downstairs to the Cafe and the food was good, decor was starting to look a bit tired. It was a nice meal but I didn't get the wow factor that I was expecting
G. A.
First time in the regano, food was beautiful..only spoiled by the loud couple next to us...heard all about their holiday plans ( Japan, must visit this temple) heard all about their politics ( very much guardian readers) absolutely spoiled my experience. What do you do when people love the sound of their own voices? You could ask them to lower their voices, but that would create an atmosphere..in the end we are up quickly and left.
D. G.
Food is good and the location of the restaurant is pretty convenient, however service definitely needs improving. Atmosphere is ok but you can easily hear what the people at the other table are talking about and I'm not young and at my best shape anymore.
E. D.
Heard so much about this place but was,nt that impressed sure the decor is nice but could be doing with a touch up as looking a bit jaded . My sister and I got a table downstairs and had fish n chips which where fine with a tiny dish of mushy peas on the side . The thing that bugged me was the water I asked the waiter for a jug of drinking water and he came to the table with a metal jug of water and pored the water into the glasses . Fine I thought but the water was so stale tasting ! Undrinkable si I asked him for a sparkling water he dident enquire about the plain water even though I told him it was horrible . I've been in plenty other restaurants and cafes which don't get raved about but at least I've had decent water and with ice and lemon ! So I suppose the service could have been better the waiter looked like a student so maybe not that experienced
N. G.
Starter of mussels wasn't good, first five I tried were empty and when I eventually did get one, they were tiny! Not a great start! Steak, frites and wine all good, but our maitre de /server Caitlin stole the show! Couldn't do enough for us, an absolute asset to the beautiful old Rogano!
J. P.
Excellent meal with superb service. Fantastic value for money and outstanding fish dishes. The complimentary amuse bouche was a lovely surprise.
S. B.
Arrived in Glasgow and managed to get a table at Rogano last minute. The service from the start was excellent and very friendly from the boys in the rogano cafe. Instead of ordering a starter and main we asked for 6 oysters and 4 starters to be brought out at the same time which was no a problem. Food was absolutly outstanding and just wished would could have sampled the whole menu. Looking forward to coming back to Glasgow to have dinner at rogano again. Many thanks again
L. F.
Popped in for cocktails and was immediately greater by helpful staff. The decor is wonderfully nostalgic and opulent but comfortable. Good cocktails.
E. B.
Always enjoy Roganos especially if we bag a couchette. Meet up with my pal usually for a catch up.We have chunky chips with mayo and a cocktail. .or two.Very pleasant waiter.
T. M.
This was the best meal on our trip! The staff was fantastic, I was so impressed that I called the floor manager over to let him know how much my wife and I enjoyed the experience!!
m. b.
Regano is the Jewel in the crown of Glasgow .Much loved .retains its beautiful Art Deco feel and gentle decadence of days gone by Freindly attentive staff and friendly customers .I never fail to get into conversations with anyone and everyone around .Food is fantastic but you would do yourself a disservice if you didn't try the cocktails .
V. P.
Couldn't fault it! The food and the service were both amazing. They even had a flat glass of champagne in the fridge for me as requested!
J. H.
Yes i have taken my cousin and his wife twice, first time it was very good but the last time like the other chap our steak was tough but thy did not charge me for the two steaks. I will go bask when i am in Glasgow agan.
D. T.
Very disappointed with the experience. When arrived and asked for our booked table the answer wasn't very polite at all. Had the lobster as main dish but wasn't anything special. The couple in the table beside us spent have of the dinner playing games on the phone on full volume. Very expensive dinner. I won't visit the place again.
R. H.
Decidedly upmarket, and with prices to match. That said, when I was there they served lovely food to a very high standard. All of this took place in a very particular ambience which may appeal to some!
E. D.
Lovely place, with art deco interior, had a lovely meal with my family ,I had chicken it was supberb ,excellent place for cocktails and a meal if your celebrating. 😃
A. T.
Food was fantastic, staff are so friendly and attentive. Ambience excellent. Highly recommend a visit
M. W.
Fabulous place, delicious menu, even not as a huge fish fan, this has opened my eyes to the possibility of further fishy delights
L. H.
This is one of my favourite places to go, the atmosphere is calm, classy & the great service is consistent, my grandparents met their friends here decades ago, Its never changed & that is comforting to me.
C. S.
Fantastic food, attentive and professional service. Love the experience and traditional setting. Definitely go again when next in Glasgow.
S. A.
Visited Cafe Rogano in the basement. A real feeling of a 1920's speak easy. Food was delicious - less fish on the menu than upstairs - and service excellent.
m. m.
Had a booking for Citation today. Arrived to find it was closed. Went to Rogano as was told it was under same ownership. Staff were brilliant and very accommodating. Thankyou so much
P. D.
Lovely surroundings. Great food and service. Pricey but worth it for a special visit.
F. M.
Fantastic outing with better half for taster menu

C. D.
Food is amazing, service is fantastic if your a fish lover this place is for you. Out of this world
C. M.
Excellent food and service. The restaurant itself seemed a little dark for me. I miss windows when they're not there.
J. M.
Great place. Lovely Food , service excellent, all in all superb.
W. M.
Great place to go and eat. Went for a very nice lunch with the girlfriend. Leaves a dent in your wallet but a very nice place. Worth going there and would recommend to anyone
G. K.
Really good value for money on the pre theatre deal in the cafe. Even the wine is reasonably priced .... and the food's not half bad either 😀
A. F.
Fantastic restaurant with unique decor very friendly helpful staff delicious food and wide variety of drinks good price for all dishes special offers 5*
H. H.
Very good value for money 5pm deal, food great but very slow service. Staff were lovely but clearly harassed.
T. E.
One of the best meals we had in Scotland. High quality sea food and superb service
L. M.
Good pizza for a good price. Can always get a space. Nice seating area out the front.
D. C.
Private party, service was ok
Food was well prepared and presented. Decor needs updated.
A. N.
Lovely place, somewhere you could see Sinatra eating if he came to Glasgow. Waiters are a bit odd though.
G. G.
Food is a good quality, although they could make a menu a bit larger.
E. R.
Really lovely establishment and beautiful decor, food and service is always top class.
J. E.
I enjoyed the food, and the atmosphere however service was slow and at sometime points slightly rude although I don't think they realised it. I would go back but maybe when it's less busy.
I. C.
Love the place, I've been going for years and the last visit was as good as the first. Oysters are superb.
c. f.
Great steak, perfectly cooked. Very helpful and friendly staff. Lovely environment.
S. W.
Beautifiul and authenic. Original art deco building set in the hedonistic 1920s of the time. Great for meeting friends and for tourists too.
Lovely place x
h. s.
Old fashioned style in a nice way - art deco. Afternoon tea was delicious and staff very friendly
A. B.
Not a bad place at all. Came here because of it's Zagat score and I don't regret it. Had a wonderful experience both food and service were above average!
D. M.
Excellent food and service, good old fashioned dishes at reasonable prices at Rogano Cafe.
D. F.
Service left a bit to be desired. I would expect more formality than 'cheers mate' when paying the bill. To be fair the Rogano is not the only place that does this though.
S. M.
Just perfect! Art Decor fish restaurant with history and excellent staff, a must even if it's just for a drink!
L. F.
Lovely afternoon tea in gorgeous surroundings
W. M.

Excellent. Staff should taste the food to recommend it. Super experience at a Glasgow institution
T. M.
A regular haunt of our (local) friends. Lovely cocktails in a fine venue, a tad pricey though!
D. F.
Very delightful restaurant to enjoy a meal. The market steak was just perfect!
M. F.
One of Glasgow's oldest and finest fish restaurants. Soup and a sandwich in the bar is great.
K. P.
Didn't book and was lucky enough to get a booth. Food was lovely as were the cocktails
P. K.
This is my favourite restaurant in Glasgow! The food is good and the atmosphere is amazing...

R. J.
Took our friends from England to experience a Glasgow landmark and liked the buzz in the bar.
S. C.
Very interesting & informative. Helpful staff too. Definitely a great place to visit.
B. B.
Fish was outstanding sticky toffee pudding worth the trip alone only let down was the prawn cocktail starter very plain and bland
J. B.
Great cocktails, lovely atmosphere and staff are friendly
