Reviews of Sylvan

One of the best meals I've had in Glasgow this year. The food is so different from anything else in town with a very creative menu! 10/10 recommend!
The tomatoes and the padron peppers were next level!!
C. S.
Best meal I've had in a while! Went with a group of people, and we shared a selection of small plates and wine. Friendly staff, delicious food and drink, pleasant ambience. Ticks all the boxes!

Went here last night and the food was amazing, all vegetarian and lots of vegan options! Some of the best I had in Glasgow. Drinks and service were also great and I loved the atmosphere of the place, it was bigger than I thought. I would highly recommend the goats cheese, smoked tomato and calvados sour, but there were no misses. Will definitely be back!

Possibly the best food, if not, then definitely in the best five restaurants I've been to in my life. The food was outstanding, such interesting and delicious flavour combinations. Thoroughly satisfied!! Thank you!

Show-stopping. I was cautious to try at first as I am a carnivore, however the plates were so rich and delicious I did not miss meat whatsoever. Will definitely be back. The chopped salad was incredible.

Had a late lunch here recently and it was one of the best vegan meals I've ever had. So tasty and really diverse flavours but all came together beautifully. Really nice vibes inside too, I'm keen to return asap!

exquisite vegetarian and vegan dishes, welcoming atmosphere, I am neither vegetarian nor vegan, but I have to say that this restaurant is the epitome of healthy, meat-free eating.
A special shout-out to Sophie who was such a lovely, friendly person working at the restaurant, she is so authentically polite and helpful, very professional!
I would definitely go again, make sure you try the hot and sweet aubergine, it makes love to your mouth!

Relaxing restaurant. Vegan small dishes. Super tasty. Slightly on the pricey side. I went with my boyfriend and we got 4 plates between us and 2 drinks each (1 soft, one alcohol) and it came to £45. Bigger than I thought, has a very cost atmosphere, would be great in winter.

Excellent food of a really high quality, and some of the best vegan dishes we've ate in glasgow. Good selection of drinks. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Would have liked to see all options on the menu being vegan however given that the impact dairy/eggs etc have on animals/environment is up there with meat production. Will definitely be back at some point though and like that the menu changes daily.

Absolutely delicious food, albeit a little pricey. We had a new waitress (Kirsty), on her first shift, and she was delightful...I would NEVER had known it was her first shift: warm, relaxed, calm and knowledgeable. All the staff were fab, and the food was gorgeous.
C. K.
Great restaurant. Food and service was excellent. Plenty of vegan options. All the meals arrived in smaller dishes designed for sharing. Ate way too much food, and would definitely come back.

Lovely chirpy and charming staff, imaginative menu - order lots of flatbread to mop up the squelchers on the small plates, great ambience and decor, and watch out for the guide to Romania

I'm not a vegetarian at all but the food in here is so good. I'm not missing meat. How do they make chopped salad taste so good!?
S.
Absolutely amazing food and cocktails. Beautiful decor inside, great atmosphere and staff were all so friendly.
The tofu spinach dish was perfection and I think about it regularly.
N. M.
Everything was delicious, especially the salt n chilli pardon peppers and the halloumi. Friendly staff too!
J. B.
A real joy. Food for everyone. Sitting around my table, there was one vegan, three vegetarians, one lactose intolerant....no problem! Staff were smiling, intelligent, professional. Ask for Ellie, she's a star!
S. T.
Our New Year’s Eve meal was absolutely brilliant. The experience was already 5 stars then I saw the big night poster in the toilet section and then I realised these guys are serious about thier food. Can’t wait to come back.
S. F.
Great food and atmosphere. Selections of beverages, will be back next time in Glasgow!
L. T.
What a delightful surprise! The food was delicious - a beautiful variety of flavours & textures. Friendly & welcoming service. Will definitely go back.😋

Lovely food and very chill experience. We tried lots of things from the menu and they were all very enjoyable flavour combinations :) Would go again

Excellent food nice atmosphere. Highly recommended for great vegetarian food. Best in Glasgow.
M. Z.
Fantastic atmosphere, place is really vibrant and nicely decorated. Amazing vegetarian/vegan food! And a huge selection of natural wines

No a vegetarian but this must be the nicest tasting food I've had eating out! Incredible food, lovely decor. Highly, highly recommend.
Go it's honestly so good.
J. S.
Delicious vegetarian food, really nice open space while still feeling cosy. The food was out of this world, and exceeded our expectations. They serve small vegetarian plates to share and the menu changes regularly to allow for fresh produce. Can't recommend enough if you're a vegetarian, even if you're not it's a great place to sample how good vege food can be.
F. M.
Wonderful. One of the best meals I've had
K. G.
Absolutely lovely food with a very nice wine list and a focus on sharing plates.
Fantastic to see places with non gendered rest rooms.
J. J.
This restaurant serves vegetarian and vegan dishes from a relatively short but very diverse menu. They are big on... Flavour, quality ingredients, imaginative combinations, presentation, value, service, airy location.
All are sharing plates - we had five between three people plus some nibbles and bread - and it was really satisfying, and less than £20 per head including light drinks.
We'll be going back for sure.
j. k.
Very quickly made.
The waitress was lovely and extremely helpful and understood our requirements completely.
Fantastic beautiful food.

Agreed with other comments here: whilst food is very good and well cooked with strong flavours, given the prices, I would have appreciated them to come with some sides, such as rice, or other grains. The menu would work better as a “tasting menu” , and since most dishes are mainly only vegetables, it would be a totally different experience if they came with pulses or carbs so they don’t feel so empty. I think the place has a great potential and the menu too so I would like it to see it improved in the future. Drinks menu was excellent though, as well as the atmosphere and the service

The food and wine in Sylvan are worth trying at this place. The restaurant has a subtle contemporary yet humble feel to it. If only the attitude of management towards hospitality was more in tune with their food and wine this place would have made the ultimate vegetarian restaurant in Glasgow.
By the time Everyone arrived at our table to start ordering food it was 20 mins into our booking. The anxious attitude provoked by the management around our table because we were ordering food later than expected changed our experience completely. They could have kindly suggested there may not be enough time for dessert and it would be up to us on how to go about it. The presence of good hospitality skills and attitude could have changed our experience a great deal.
L. M.
This restaurant does hospitality very well. The atmosphere is great, service level is perfect.
Who ever has devised the menu and its dishes is very talented, all round full marks for this place.
H. R.
This is without a doubt the BEST place I’ve ever eaten out. And I’m not even a vegetarian. The place looks amazing, de ambiance is great. Love the concept. The service is perfect. And every meal is an explosion of well balanced flavour. I would recommend it to everyone coming to glasgow! You will not be dissappointed!

First time dining in Sylvan and won't be the last! The food was delicious and the presentation of the dishes was fantastic.
Not a massive menu but still plenty to choose from which is a great indication of quality rather than quantity. It's really encouraging to see another vegetarian restaurant which is making exciting food without it being an after thought. A lovely addition to the ever-growing veg/vegan scene in Glasgow.
Our server Seetil was also very pleasant and added to the lovely relaxed atmosphere.
Looking forward to returning for an evening booking to try out the natural wines. (huge selection of red, white, orange and sparkling!)
Thanks again!

It's great to see this large and airy space, which we still think of as Grassroots, being used again. A lot of thought has evidently gone into the flavours, consistency and textures of the food,, and we really enjoyed all our very tasty dishes, from the padron peppers to the aubergines, smoked tomatoes with flat bread and grilled broccoli. I would actually give Sylvan four and a half stars, our only quibble being that the portions could definitely be larger. It might be worth considering bulking the dishes out a little as otherwise the prices perhaps look a little steep. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we really enjoyed our visit.
P. R.
Loved the food, everything was amazing, great staff and good beer.
M. B.
Been a few times, will be back for more. The best vegetarian restaurant I've ever been to (and I've been going to them for over 20 years). Really innovative, delicious dishes, great wine, lovely service.
Z. O.
Delicious food - can't stop thinking about the smoked tomatoes! Really great natural wine menu, lovely ambience, and great service. Definitely one of my new favourite vegetarian restaurants - wish there was somewhere like it in Edinburgh.
M. K.
Each dish was even better than the last. Can’t stop thinking about this restaurant and can’t wait to go back. The tofu, aubergine and smoked tomatoes were an absolute delight. Oh and the green beans. The coconut rice pudding dessert was to die for. It could only be improved if there were a bigger variety of textures.
B. M.
Absolutely amazing experience at Sylvan. The food was incredible and the service was superb. My new favourite.
G.
Omg this place! Chose few dishes as they are served like tapas, I had the aubergine and the baba ganush and they tasted unreal, elegant place but laid back as well, attentive waiters and good selection of craft beers as well as good wines. I am not vegetarian and yet after eating here I did not miss not having had a steak, I was very satisfied, the food was well presented, in a simple way, delicious and filling. Everything was on point with no distractions from the good quality of the food and the talent of the chefs.
E. P.
Excellent food selection! I loved the cashews with seaweed salt, the smoked olives, the tofu … every dish tasted delicious! Completely recommend for lunch or dinner! 5 stars ⭐️
J. S.
Lovely restaurant, beautiful inside and great service. Unfortunately only half the dishes on the menu were available which was so disappointing. What food we did order was lovely but there was a limited choice.
M. S.
Best restaurant I've ever been to hands down. Amazing food all done to the highest standard. I would expect to pay much for for this quality however it's very reasonably priced. Good location and super nice place to be! Staff are also very nice.
P. Y.
This place could be so great but I was very disappointed with the menu. There was barely any dishes on the menu with protein in, being 90% vegetables. It felt like a vegetarian menu designed by meat eaters who imagine we get by only on salad. The vegetables were beautifully cooked but it felt like we had a table of side dishes. The smoked tomatoes were exquisite but sat only on yoghurt with one flatbread, the aubergine was also fantastic but came with nothing but coriander. These kinds of dishes together failed to satisfy. If only the chefs could be generous with some tofu, chickpeas, or lentils to accompany the vegetables (especially for £8 a small dish). We had eaten at Suissi just hours before (where tofu is aplenty) and If we hadn’t, I would have been very hungry after eating at Sylvan. Hopefully Sylvan embraces a more imaginative and filling vegetarian cuisine soon.

The Sylvan has been on our list of places to visit since it opened, and having visited today we will certainly be singing its praises to our all our friends.
The food is of exceptional standard, original and mouth-wateringly good. Where else will you get smoked tomatoes, rice porridge and honey goats cheese (3 dishes amongst many) in Glasgow?
The food cannot be faulted, the staff are very attentive, the atmosphere spot on and it’s dog friendly too.
We will be back without a doubt, but next time with friends!

Spectacular food! Super tasty, perfectly balanced. Nice service (quick also) and beautiful interior. We tried a variety of dishes - the padron peppers and cashews, tomato tadka salad, steamed aubergine, and the asparagus & gribiche. All so good and delicious - i particularly loved the peppers and cashews - and I appreciated that even though the dishes were so different in flavour profile they all seemed to go really well together. Even the steamed rice (we only needed one to share between the two of us) was great. We also had a peach green tea spritz cocktail and blueberry kombucha spritz cocktail which was similarly good! Would 100% recommend eating here and will be back in the future!! Thank you.
T. B.
Great food and wine- so lovely to have such a choice of vegan and vegetarian food. Staff are brilliant, efficient and friendly. Beautiful environment too. Can't fault!
F. S.
Nice atmosphere friendly staff and lovely food, will definitely be back.

Fan-flipping-tastic!!! I'm no vegan by any means but I do love great tasting seasonal food and Sylvan hit the mark & then some! I just asked the friendly staff to bring me what ever they thought and there wasn't a morsel we didn't savour.my wife's favourite was the smoked tomatoes, flat bread with yoghurt &chilli butter.i enjoyed it all ... braised carrots, broccoli, green beans, roasted pears...all cooked with care & attention, bravo.the place was spotless, friendly and a great atmosphere, well they were playing John Martyn when I went in so that was happy straight away...
Can't wait to eat there time and time again.

The place is beautiful and very welcoming. Service was friendly and everything came very quickly. The food was delicious! Amongst others I would highly recommend the padron peppers, the broth, broccoli with pepper sauce and the rice pudding 😍
O. B.
Unreal. It felt like I tasted food for the first time in my life. Beyond flavourful.
G. C.
The food and atmosphere are fab. 4 stars instead of 5 because the service is not great. It is under-staffed which means long wait to order, long wait for the table to be cleaned and being able to order dessert.
