Reviews of Turnip The Beet

A fabulous eatery that is a must stop for refreshments on your hike. Turnip the Beer is run by lovely people, has some nice sitting areas outside and the range of food from curries, sandwiches and cakes is just what you need. Lots of local options and the prefect place to stop on day 1 of your WHW.

Oh my! Was looking forward to stopping here on day 1 of the West Highland Way. My map book didn’t list it but I spied it on google maps and it sounded perfect. Had an amazing onion bhaji and hummus wrap, drinks and some delicious vegan GF cookies for later. Great little zero-waste shop and friendly service. Definitely recommend! (Ps nice looking honesty box out the back on the WHW trail for walkers also)!

Incredible food at a really good price. Either pick up delicious takeaway food direct from their unit at Killearn Mill Business Park or have a private event catered for with a bespoke menu suited perfectly for you. Highly recommended.

Walking the West Highland Way, they offer free water refills and have an honesty box. Lady was closing up by the time we got there, but still offered cold food and told us about a decent camping spot about 15-20 minutes walk past. Got a very good bacon roll next morning. So, if you're walking the Way, it's a very nice stop-off spot.

We passed this shop to get some snacks and bread for our hike and we could not have imagined anything better. Interesting selection of snacks and delicious Naan bread. Very friendly staff as well, we also got a refill of our water bottles. Definitely worth to stop by.

Just enjoyed my first ever takeaway from Turnip the Beet. We had 3 dishes: butter chicken; korean pork belly; and chilli prawns. All 3 were rich in flavour and made with beautiful fresh ingredients. Much nicer than a 'standard' takeaway curry - the sauce was savoury without being oily and the prawns especially were cooked to perfection - just enough firmness and retaining enough of the flavour of the sea. I also want to add that the poppadoms were the best I have ever eaten - obviously cooked fairly freshly today. I can't wait to come back. 3 great curries for just £25.

The food at turnip the beet is fantastic, whether it be their takeaway selection or their delicious homemade lunches and cakes. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. It's always the first place I recommend to people in the area.

The make your own meal beat boxes are amazing! so much great quality produce. Just had the vegetable jalfrezi, was simple to make with the right instruction, and the lime cut right through the whole thing making for a delicious Friday night feast. If anything far too much food for one man!!
See below, two old reviews i gave:
Boil in the bag meals for hikers etc are perfect! Went in, tasted a few options, picked what I wanted, and left with very good value for money. The faces on the other hill walkers when we rocked up to a bothy, them wrestling with a disposable BBQ in the wind, and us with a chicken curry and mexican rice!
amazing new place. outside catering was brilliant, and the family loved the butter chicken and the chickpea and bean casserole. Laura makes great sauces/dressings etc which complement the food perfectly

Hands down best takeaway we’ve had all lockdown! Very fresh flavours and possibly the best poppodums I’ve eaten. We had 3 dishes: Beef Massaman, lentil dhal and chilli prawns - would highly recommend. Look forward to trying more on the menu!

We paid our first visit here today and it won't be our last. We stopped by after a walk from our new home near Killearn, and ordered some takeaway coffees which were very good. We then decided to buy ourselves a thali meal for two, to take home for our Saturday evening treat. We got lamb jalfrezi, Korean pork belly, gunpowder potatoes, dhal, paneer curry, naan bread, onion bahjis and pickles all for £25. I said to my wife "if the food is as good as the coffee I'll be very happy"
Well here we are later on Saturday evening, both very full and very happy. We'll be back to try the rest of the menu.

Lovely curries, better than the usual takeaway. Great for coffee, cakes, muesli, etc as well. Wee spot to eat or drink outside if the weather is nice.

I've only eaten here once or twice but the food was crazy delicious, the staff friendly and funny (Laura can brighten up a dreich day in seconds) and it was reasonably priced. I had some takeaway of theirs on top of Ben Venue, and it only added to that epic an experience.

Lovely high quality place. Today passed over and was great

Great for package free top ups of essential coffee, flour and wine, and I love the pot luck curries, which now are also available with reusable packaging. If you're quick, you might also get some cake.

The woman who was working the counter when we came by was extremely friendly and accommodating. We had missed lunch by only a few minutes but she gave us the lunch discount anyway. This was the best restaurant on the first day of the West Highland Way.

I went to turnip the best for dinner inspiration and opted for the butter chicken from the take home menu, although it was so hard to choose just one dish! The food was delicious. I loved the flexibility with being able to reheat it when it suited me, and the eco-friendly vegware is such a good idea. It was the perfect meal to treat myself to after a long week at work and I’ll definitely be back!

Generous portions of good quality food. First time using it so I can't comment on consistent standards hence the 4 stars, but if the next meal matches the first one, then it's a clear 5.

We had Katsu Chicken and Prawn curry. Both were excellent. We love a good diner and this didn’t disappoint. Thanks Laura and we will be back soon,!

Excellent food! Easy compostable packaging, perfect to take away on a hike and eat around the fire. We tried the coq au vin and the curry, and it was delicious! Greetings from Belgium

A really cozy shop. The coffee was great, as were the staff there. The seating outside was comfortable as there were nice plants and birds were flying around.
