Reviews of The Plough
Beautiful pub tucked away in the heart of leverstock green. Definitely worth a visit, lovely terrace/outdoor seating area. Fish portion was huge and service was good! Not the norm in Hemel unfortunately - great pub! Would say the pricing is fairly standard for around the area but the portion size and general ambience definitely added some value, keep it up!
Really aesthetic and heart warming place. The food is absolutely incredible in every way. The staff are very polite and professional. Honestly worth going to!
My wife said it's the best meal she's had in a loooong time.
Quality service and the atmosphere was welcoming. Thanks very much The Plough Hemel 👍🏾
Been there on Saturday evening. Very beautiful restaurant, it seems a lot of work has been done to the outside garden terrace. The staff was very friendly and gave me a 5star service. The food was very good also.
This is a great restaurant pub to come to for a special dining experience. The food is excellent and the staff are friendly and hard working. This time I booked a party of 35 people for an anniversary Buffet Lunch and I couldn’t have been more delighted. Everybody commented on the quality of the food and the efficiency of the staff which made our visit so special for us. Thank you Alex and Fran for going the extra mile and attention to detail. Highly recommended
Nice pub, food is OK 👍 👌 been a few times. Cocktails a bit pricey but very nice great for eating/drinking outside
Booked Sunday afternoon, would recommend booking as very busy.
Received warm welcome, all the staff looked very smart, were very efficient and friendly, only positive things about them all
Large pub / restaurant with many different dinning areas so was not noisy where we were seated.
Nicely decorated with a range of framed pictures, which looked smart and interesting to read.
Done full menu and carvery, all food was very nicely presented, and tasted good. I had the turkey carvery which was timed with meals from kitchen as waitress let me know which time to go up, which was excellent service.
Price are very reasonable compared with the service on offer.
There is a car park which was full on our visit but has street parking.
I would recommend a visit.
We were served by George and from the moment we arrived till the moment we left he was amazing! My daughter is only young and has additional needs and struggles with sit down meals, he made sure that we had things to occupy her so we could eat without the stress of her running off and playing up. He made us feel at ease and the meal wouldn’t have been half as nice or half as easy if he hadn’t have served and been as amazing as he was! Thank you so much George you really made a hard day into a much better one!!
Beautiful outside area and delicious food. Reasonable prices and some cocktails promotion.
Must go back for Carvery😃
The Plough is always the very best quality for food and service! I have been here a lot of times since 2020, wouldn't think of going anywhere else for a sunday roast and a drink! ☺️ Viktoria was lovely, very polite and knowledgeable. Fantastic service as always ☺️👏
Solid good pub grub.
Service (Viktoria) was brilliant. Food was very reasonably priced.
I had the half chicken and half ribs (tennesee special). The rib were giant and really nice. The chicken was nice except the breast part which was quite dry.
The garlic bread with cheese was the pre sliced kind with grated cheese melted on time and was... OK.
The chicken schnitzel with creamy chorizo sauce was good and the kids sausage and mash was good (my daughter decided to drown it in gravy... That's not how it arrives!)
If you're staying at a local hotel for Harry Potter World, this is a great family friendly pub that's very reasonably priced with excellent service. Would return.
We had lunch here today and we were warmly served by Gordana who was kind, funny, welcoming and very present throughout the lunch always ready to help us, chat with us and also she guided us through a though choice between cheese cake and apple crumble desserts! Food is very good and huge portions as well! Thanks a lot!
We were a group of four & were very well looked after by Amie, who was really polite & friendly. She was attentive & courteous, took our orders easily & accurately. The food arrived hot & great to have the food served on warm plates aswell. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals & will definitely be back :)
Family group booking for 7 for Sunday roast carvery.
Food choice & quality was fab.
Chef serving the carvery was great.
Waitress lovely, friendly & helpful.
Exquisite food and great atmosphere. This pub/restaurant is a great choice if you want to stop for food on your way to London or out of London. Reservation suggested.
Great lunch, food was fresh and delicious, service was excellent, good value for money. Personal preference would have liked the background music quieter.
All the waiters were superb. Especially George. Promote him! Food excellent. Compliments to the chefs. The owners must be so happy with their staff.
Food was really good. Waitress was lovely and helpful but service was a bit slow and a couple of people in our group didn't get their orders quite right.
Service was excellent. Food was great we ate from the Diamond menu all the food was very nice and very good value for money
Excellent Afternoon tea. Service and food were very good. We were a party of 6, weren’t rushed, scones and tea great plus attentive service.
We all had the carvery was the best one we have had for a while was very impressed with the quality of the meat especially the beef
Had a brilliant meal at The Plough. We were very happy with the food and drink and Victor took fantastic care of us.
Highly recommended!
Thought it was very mean to charge £1 for a small portion of ice cream when we were told there was no custard left. Also I believed you overcharged us £1 on the bottle of wine
I've been coming here to The Plough for many years....mostly eat in sometimes taken away...
Today had a lovely roast dinner with my son....everything was absolutely delicious fresh and excellent!!... staff are lovely always a service with a smile and treat you with great respect...
My server today was a young man called Louis..he was lovely...
Well recommended gastro pub!
Took us in, on a busy Sunday with no reservations! Good service. Reasonable prices. The place was packed for Sunday lunch so I recommend making a reservation. Definetly will be back again. Parking available at the back of the pub. Lovely atmosphere and great variety in the menu. Overall a very enjoyable experience.
Hemel Hampstead’s hidden gem!! We visited the area for our son’s birthday trip to Harry Potter’s studio and discovered this place by chance. The ambience was very welcoming and charming with friendly locals. Food was amazing and delicious even though we arrived just before closing time. However the best aspect of dining in The Plough was probably the friendliest staff We met in long time, especially our waitress Victoria. She was very polite, attentive, extremely knowledgeable and made great recommendations. They all made us feel welcomed and gave us an amazing experience. (We came back two days later and it was no different :) Highly recommended!!
We had the most lovely family meal at The Plough today, our server Gordarnia was so amazing and helpful from start to finish, the food was delicious, we had a great time!
Wonderful spot!
Had the Sunday carvery with friends, food was really delicious and our server June was extremely friendly and caring!
Held the reception after my mother's funeral and the food and staff were superb.
Came for Christmas meal with work people. Food was amazing and Jo the waitress was lovely and attentive. Will defo come back for next years :)
Great food, great service, friendly warm atmosphere. A little bit more than we would usually pay if we had gone elsewhere. But definitely worth the extra, and we will be returning again soon. Our waiter Victor was nice too congratulating us on our 25th anniversary of our first date there. (21yrs married since then) 🙂
Staff are really polite, the place itself is well done with plenty of seating for large party dining. The food was lovely apart from two points - the roast potatoes were overdone and chewy, and they're a bit stingy with the meat- only two small slices for a large carvery meal. The desserts were lovely too. Overall, can't complain and will definitely be returning. Recommend for family and friends.
I am not usually a fan of a carvery but the food here was amazing. The beef was really tender. The service is also great.
Had a delicious afternoon tea. The food far exceeded my expectations for the price- there was plenty of it and everything tasted wonderful. The freshly baked scones in particular were superb. Staff are very friendly and were happy to let us take our time. Would thoroughly recommend.
Decent food and good value for money. Lovely pub and our server (didn’t get his name!) was incredible - attentive and super friendly.
Outstanding service! We are visiting from the US and we really enjoyed this pub.
A large group of us were there for our Christmas lunch. The food was good and plentiful. We were made very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed being there. The staff were great and Victor deserves a special mention for his care and attention.
Shall definitely be returning.
Lovely burgers , lovely staff , best restaurant 😋😋😋😋😋😍😍😍 highly recommend
Food was very tasty and evidently fresh. I got the seabass and it was perfectly cooked. Toffee Apple Crumble was to die for. Waitress was friendly and competent. Was eating alone but very happy.
It feels like you are in someone's dining room! The atmosphere is amazing, the food was fantastic and looked and tastes amazing, the staff were friendly and really efficient and to top it off the price was really good!! My new favourite pub!
Great pub, great waiter Sebastian. We went as a party of four. Ordered 2 doubles and a large wine. 3 starters, 4 mains and 2 deserts. Total was £132 inc 10% service charge. I think the food was a bit above average. It was good but not great or amazing. Nothing to complain about apart from the brownie was rock solid. However everything else was amazing, the wait staff, the service, the atmosphere etc.
Too cold in the marquee, all the defrost was dropping into the food. Staff were a bit militant with patrons
Love this place. Service is always amazing as is the food. Dropped a star as they never have a full menu.
Rebecca was a very helpful server and was full of energy. Would recommend
So the Plough... It's kind of my elected local, there are three if not four other pubs nearer than the Plough, but we choose to come here, and this is why...
1. The staff are really sweet. We've always (apart from once, see below review three yrs ago) been met with smiles, warmth and good humour from staff serving us;
2. The food (that I and the people I've gone with) is really good.
3. The price is decent (enough not to threaten a remortgage strategy lol)
4. Local enough for us to walk over when weather permits.
Since the review below, I be been back with various people and mostly with my wife, a handful or so of times, and I'd say all these times within the last 8months to a year. Each of these last visits have been so much better than before (below) so they must've upped their game-face, because I (we) have rekindled our love of this gastro pub. Well done landlord/ landlady, and thank you for some really good times! (Still not too happy I never made it into your Facebook page after conquering the Henry VIII burger though 😂😜) Don't think I could manage one anymore ...😬🫀❤️🩹😅
The below review was written by me, wow...3yrs ago according to Google.
Didn't enjoy it tonight...
The front of house staff were sweet enough, hence the lone star; however they'd made no attempt to put right the mistakes they'd made. We waited an inordinately long time for our meal (over an hour), and we feel it would've been longer had we'd not quizzed them when our food would be arriving. The table next to us came in a good 10 or so minutes after us and they got their food before us. My wife ordered california salad (which supposedly included "skinny fries") the fries didn't show up until we asked where they were. I ordered pork belly which the menu said included pork crackling and apple jam. Neither of these came in my dish, even after I'd specifically requested they made sure I get the crackling. Weirdly, I got a handful of peas thrown in on my plate that were hidden in the mash. I ordered bread n butter pudding which I (wrongly) presumed would be home made. It was pretty dire.
Our evening was only made pleasant and bearable due to the chatty lady and her carer sitting across from us.
The Plough has historically been such a great place to eat for me, I've been in there on at least 8 or 10 occasions over the last few years for numerous birthdays and anniversaries, either with friends or with family and had always loved it, so this evening has left me really feeling really disappointed because I chose to come here for my birthday tonight. Don't think I will be visiting again for a long while, if at all now 😞😞😞
This place was a last-minute find. We literally stumbled across it by taking a wrong turn looking for somewhere to eat.
We were so glad we did. The food was great, the staff were so lovely and friendly and were there when needed. They weren't constantly on our tails but were there just when we needed them, perfect!
We'll definitely be back, and we're so glad we stumbled across this place.
Good carvery. Friendly staff. Busy but not noisy.
I love this place, they do the best roast.
It's a nice place to eat. Slightly above a lot of the Pubs around. However the staff are really friendly and the service is excellent. Never had any bad food there so I would recommend.
We have eaten at The Plough several times. The food is always excellent and so is the service. On the last two occasions we have been served by Victor who is a delight.
Great food really nice decor staff are great and carvery is great value the restaurant is clean and decor is light and fresh. The staff were very helpful and food was great 👍
Stopped in as we were leaving Heathrow and wanted a bite to eat not far from the M1.
Warm welcome by the staff, great service and very good fish and chips.
I visited The Plough last week. The staff was very kind and smiley. Our waitress Adriana was super helpful, she helped us go find the perfect cocktails and food. She was very polite and lovely. The service was fast and smooth. The food was delicious. Congratulations for the chefs also. Definitely will come back soon! 🙏🏽
We came for Mother’s Day for the first time and must say loved the food a d the service was really good considering how busy it was. Really can’t complain with anything and will definitely be back again.
Had a lovely relaxed meal on 9/9
Served very well by Victor
Good food and very nice staff
Food was good but service was appalling. It wasn’t very busy on a Tuesday lunchtime (only 4 other tables) but we had to wait for the waitress to ask us for our drinks order (about 10 minutes) and then it was another 25 minutes before our starters appeared. Once we had finished our starters it was another 20 minutes before our main course appeared. Waitress never smiled once or asked if we wanted more drinks. As a celebration for my mother’s 80th birthday this was disappointing. I had let the restaurant know in advance it was a special birthday meal but no effort was made at all. As I said, the food was good but service atrocious. There were only 3 of us at our table so it wasn’t even a big order. Needless to say we paid the bill but did not leave a tip for service.
Lovely food, nice country pub atmosphere and great service from Victor - we'll definitely be back and recommend others visit 👍
Lovely place. The food and service it’s amazing.Friendly staff . They deserved 10 ⭐️
Spent a very pleasant Wednesday evening here, took advantage of their Wednesday night steak offer ,excellent value, good food well cooked and beautifully served our server Victor was first class, will revisit
From the outside it did not look great. Inside was very nice. Decorated nicely, very friendly attentive staff. Decent menu. I had a beef and mushroom pudding, it was lovely. My son had a beef dripping burger, it was huge and delicious
Had a christmas meal here, was pleasant enough but no different to any other carvery and when you pay loads for the day, a little more finesse would have been nice. And for it to be brought to the table rather than have to go and get it.
My mum said the starter of soup was cold, and the cauliflower cheese a bit hard.
Dont get me wrong staff lovely, decor nice but just a few errors.
My mum complained that the chair was very uncomfortable I told her she should have asked to swap it . We will remain loyal customers just a little more effort needed.
Soft drinks at nearly £4...really? Menu rarely ever complete. Been several times and muscles off the menu every time? Several others not available. Ordered Ceasar salad but they had no parmesan cheese
We were staying/working locally and TBF the hotel food was, well, very poor!!!
A quick Internet search brought up this little gem!!! I wish we'd found it sooner!!
An unusual, not the usual corporate bobbins, unique, glad we'd found it kinda place.
Great food (and wine) top quality, friendly service, by people that took pride in their restaurant. Certainly return there again!!
Rebecca was very attentive and food was delicious
Visited Sunday with my husband, both chose the carvery. Delicious, the turkey was lovely and moist. Staff were brilliant, very polite and attentative, very customer focused. First visit, will definately go again.
I like the Plough lovely food great service! but every time I go there I am greeted with a long list of food and drink that they have run out of! Which is a real disappointment! I went there about 6 months ago and had the best pot of mussels and ever since I keep thinking I must go back there and have that again so tonight we did and they had run out! most annoying! They had also run out of Sausages, Brownies Vanilla Ice Cream, Bailies and about 4 other main courses which I can't recall now ... Lovely restaurant but sort your stock control out!
While the food was second to non, i was anoyed, when paying there was no mention on the card machine about gratuity's, which adedd 10%, i always tip the staff in cash personaly, but at no time did the card machine display this extra, food & servise was exelent, so just where dose this extra 10% go, I'll wager not to the staff
Had afternoon tea, which was very nice, staff friendly, a good relaxed atmosphere, definitely go back.
Went for Sunday lunch and booked at last minute as previous restaurant let us down the staff couldn't of been better we were a party of 6 and a 2year old child the service was excellent especially the waiting staff and the Sunday roasts were very good it was a very enjoyable experience and would go there again and highly recommend to others as the staff make all the difference
Great place to eat, family-friendly, amazing food, I came here with my partner and my children, the service was fantastic, I would highly recommend this place and I will definitely be coming back again 😀
Me and my family ordered food for delivery and was amazing! Quality and quantity was just brilliant! Was still hot when it got to us and will definitely order again soon!
Very good
Very good and typical restaurant
Visited for lunch today with my son. We were seated and served by an older lady (grandparent age) but I'm afraid I don't know what her name was. She was absolutely lovely from start to finish and she was working so hard with serving, check backs and clearing the whole time we were there. She is an asset to your pub! On top of the great service, the food was lovely as was the setting.
Really nice evening, nice atmosphere great service and good food in a pleasant country pub feeling dining area. Been coming for years and it’s got bigger but still a nice friendly pub.
Lovely roast dinner, friendly staff, and a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We’ll be back!
Suzanna was efficient snd attentive.
Well done everyone!
We enjoyed the Sunday carvery, good choice of meats and tasty vegetables.
Excellent service although a little cramped.
Carvery nice food & service .. reasonably priced .. Diamond Club Mon to Fri with 20% off food only .. even better value .. plenty of parking
Food delicious. Friendly staff. I had a lovely evening with friends here.
Lovely tasty hot food from the carvery and the young lad who served us was fantastic
Would have got 5 if the four things I wanted to eat or drink which were on the menu were available and there wasn’t a huge lump of suit in the middle of my steak pie
Visited the plough for my granddaughters birthday carvery was lovely and waitress was very helpful
Great food good price,friendly staff
Lovely food and staff
Great atmosphere
Family down from Scotland and London, lovley get together, great food and service 😋
Always lovely service and tasty food x
The four of us enjoyed Saturday lunch at the Plough. The food was excellent with a good range of dishes on the menu. All the staff were very efficient and attentive, including our friendly server Victoria who helped in our choices from the inn’s menu. The designer restaurant and marquee are both welcoming and comfortable. Well worthy of a return visit!
Wonderful food. Beautifully presented. Lovely staff. Overall highly recommend.
We met up with my daughter and partner for a pre arrange booking for a meal at lunchtime.
The service was excellent and the food tasty & well presented.
Great place and good hospitality. 👍
Lydia was very helpful and a good representation of the restaurant. She was very attentive to our needs and checked back regularly.
Great food, good portion of prawns in the cocktail.
Music turned down when asked as we sat under the speaker.
Lovely waitress.
All 6 meals very tasty.
My only complaint was with a male member of staff speaking very loudly on the phone, rather than go into a private office he walked around the pub getting louder and louder
Great service and really nice food
Excellent food! Caramel chicken, baked camenbert, and bread board to start. Steak, beef dip burger, beef stew and dumplings, and a carvery, all really tasty, well cooked. Definitely return. Sorry, no pics, we ate it all too quickly ☺️
Really nice atmosphere, the food was very nice and the service was excellent! Elizabeth, our waitress, was incredibly friendly and attentive. Made sure that we were always set for drinks and that everything was okay with our meals. Very impressed, would highly recommend :)
First time eating here, really friendly staff, brilliant customer service, food was quick and yummy even though the restaurant was busy. Would definitely come again and will recommend to friends and family.
