This is an amazing restaurant, you wouldn't think it was in Ipswich, feels like it should be in London or a major city. The food is excellent, and all made from quality ingredients. Some people may say it's in the pricier side, but I really don't mind the cost for this level of excellence.

Place with character. Some sitting areas outside and inside. Lots of paintings, which are for sale too. If you are lucky you can get a table with a view to the waterfront and all boats. We have been served pretty quickly, food have been presented really nicely. Not the cheapest place to go but worth to try and give a go. Very filling. Surely do not need any starters or deserts. Although they had lovely menu for deserts.

Absolutely lovely place to stop off for a relaxing lunch.. This was our third visit... Staff are always so helpful and friendly. Food was yummy. House wine actually was really good. Great select menu...yummy. They have set courses or you can choose from the a la carte... We just ordered two glasses of wine, hummus rye bread side and two mains... Excellent ✨ Toilets clean and well maintained. Covid procedures excellent... staff still wearing masks, thank you 🙏 Can't fault. Highly recommended. Thanks guys 🌻

Myself and my fiancé enjoyed a celebratory anniversary meal here last night. The restaurant was welcoming and cosy with industrial style decor and quirky artwork for sale on the walls. The staff could not do enough for us as they waited on our every need. We were not left waiting for anything, receiving our drinks very quickly and having our orders taken promptly. The strawberry daiquiri I enjoyed was lovely and refreshing. We both ordered the beef burger which came with beef dripping chips and raclette cheese melted onto the burger at the table which was really impressive. I had my burger well done which I think may have affected the quality due to the meat being slightly dryer after being cooked longer, so would suggest to have the burger pink in future as my partner did and he said it was “delicious”. The highlight for me was the stunning dessert. I ordered the chocolate s’more which was one of the best desserts I’ve ever tasted. Cinnamon sable biscuits which were light and buttery, homemade toasted marshmallow which was sweet and fluffy, rich chocolate ganache and a cherry gel which added an extra level to the dessert. The staff couldn’t have done more to tend to us and I felt everything was very reasonably priced as well. We very much enjoyed our meal here and will definitely be recommending it to friends and family, and returning for future special occasions. Thanks very much for a lovely evening :)

Amazing restaurant amazing service. I ordered a steak it was cooked perfect but I ordered it rarer than I like. And they happily took it back and replaced the whole meal!! And added extras. This has always been a great favourite of my husband and I. In need of a bit of a treat we were excited to return after quite a long absence. We love the ambience of The Bistro and this lived up to expectation. The staff were as friendly as ever but we were so disappointed with the menu. Not much choice and nothing much we considered “special” or unusual. So, fish and chips and burger and chips it was. Will have to find somewhere else to serve our needs food/wise.

I recently had the chance to have an evening meal with my colleagues at this restaurant. We pre booked our meal choices and we were happy that the staff had our meal choices printout ready. These are small things but they add up to the food quality and service. The starter was a cheese based one(forgot the name, it sounded more French than English) and I felt almost full after this. When the main dish came, I couldn't complete it fully even though it was really good. We then finished off the meal with a dessert. Overall a great evening and great food.

Went on a Monday night for a birthday celebration. It was very full and busy. Having said that, service was very slow. It took close on 90 minutes from when we arrived to get our main courses. We had ordered nibbles but not starters. The food was nice but not amazing.

From the outside this place looked clean and tidy although maybe a little uninviting (We wasn't sure it was even open). Once inside we where very swiftly greeted and sat down by a lovely lady with impeccable service. The atmosphere and interior decoration gives the Bistro a very 'English tea shop' feel, huge floor to celine windows allow you to overlook the marina whilst dining. There was a fantastic seasonal choice on offer and I highly recommend the vegetarian Mediterranean Vegetable Tart. The service was very quick and staff very eager to please. It did get busy very quickly but that was due to it being Sunday on our visit and the Bistro's limited opening hours. Overall a lovely place to eat and we would definitely go there again.

Visited on 2nd January 2020. The restaurant had just been taken over by the same people that run Mariners 1900 just opposite. Managed to get a table for two even though we hadn't booked. The food was excellent, as good as Mariners. The set menu was £20.95 for two courses or £22.95 for three. For starters we both had the smoked haddock rarebit with a poached egg on sour dough toast, very good. For mains, I decided on Confit Pork Belly (see photo) whilst my wife opted for Sea Bass with a seafood couscous. Both dishes were faultless. A great evening with excellent food.

It was actually my first visit to a restaurant since the start of COVID and I was a bit nervous but I’m glad we choose this place for our first restaurant visit. Fantastic customer service. I rang a week before my visit to inform them of my food allergies and Kathy arranged to have a special meal cooked just for me. On the day the waitress knew of my problems and the meal was served with no fuss . It tasted delicious and was all "safe" for me. Cannot praise them enough. Ist time visit for a family birthday celebration. Service and food was really good, and nice to try something different from the normal chain restaurant offerings. They brought the birthday cake on time, and generally looked after us well. Recommend a visit and would return at some point. Best to book in advance as very busy even at 7.00pm. My only very slight fault was that the pork chop for my main course could have been hotter, but really well cooked and tasty otherwise.

I used to really like their food. It looked and tasted delicious. However, recently I had a meal there on a Saturday with friends and family and was really disappointed with their food. The high-class presentation and taste of their food has gone and been replaced with a messy mixing of salad in my favourite scallops and chorizo starter and cheap Chinese take away looking mixed vegetables of bean sprouts and carrots in my sea bass main. They totally lost their charm.

I first went to this bistro with my parter and thought the service, atmosphere and food was brilliant so I booked again for a large group meal for my sister’s birthday this October 2018. The bistro had to squeeze more people in (went from 10 people to 12 then 17 people) as some confirmed last minute but the waitresses managed to move our table to fit more people on the day of the meal even though they were fully booked - very accommodating and friendly staff. Such good food for the price too - and fab location! Absolutely recommend!

Lovely atmospheric place to eat indoors, and the food was well prepared. Yet, the one less star is because we need traders along the waterfront to help make their trading surroundings beautiful and lush with evergreen plants and flowers outside their premises, a bit of nature planting will certainly bring plenty of vibrancy to the grey bleakness of the waterfront which stops visitors from wanting to revisit.

In a recent visit we had the set menu. The choice of food was limited but you can't always expect a wide choice when getting a deal. The quality of food was good but the restaurant were not flexible when it came to children. My daughter did not like the choice but there was no children's meal option or the choice to tweak a meal for her. Very disappointing, it was made clear that young people are not really welcome.

Also shorter option of main and glass of wine for £9.95. Set on the waterfront so nice views. Only downside is it's not that near the main Ipswich town.

We were made to feel very welcome as soon as we stepped inside. The atmosphere was buzzing. As soon as we were shown to our table we were offered bread and oils. The food was perfect and value for money. Service was spot on. We will definitely be going again.

Swordfish loin - absolutely beautiful, perfectly cooked (crispy on one side, juicy on the other), excellent salad and thick cut chips (actually more like baked chunks of potato) - we really enjoyed the meal. And a good price too. There are lots of tables spread around different rooms, so it has space but never feels busy or full (having said that, it's worth phoning to book a table as it is popular). Tables outside only serve drinks. Decent variety of international foods, and awareness of food miles including locally sourced ingredients where possible

I enjoyed my meal so much I went back for breakfast. I had the chorizo arancini, camembert, lamb and brownie for dinner. Yes. I pigged out! For breakfast eggs florentine. My god, I wish I ordered another eggs florentine. Not because it was small, but because it was delicious and light. The muffin it was on was literally perfect. Just one odd thing - you can't smoke outside as smoke may enter the restaurant/bar.

Had meal here with some work colleagues. The food was OK but nothing amazing. The peppercorn sauce with the steak was very thick, more peppercorns than anything and had been standing under a heat lamp for a while. The staff weren't very attentive and often apologised for their poor hearing, one even said the kitchen staff were desperate to get off which is why part of a dessert was missing.

We popped in for lunch and both had the beef tournedos. The fillet was nicely cooked to our liking and the fresh pesto was delicious, sadly the rest of the plate let it down as a whole. The chips were under-cooked, rather anaemic looking, not crispy and the starch was still grainy instead of fluffy. Instead of roasted tomato as stated on the menu we got grilled tomatoes, which I find disgusting and pappy, unlike roasted tomatoes which are cooked through and soft/sweet; and the salad garnish was underwhelming, small and bitter to taste. Desert was lovely though, the creme brulee had a nice caramelized top and was deliciously creamy underneath! The passionfruit opera cake was given a nice zing by the passionfruit curd. Not a bad lunch, but could have been better. First time visiting and not sure if we'll be back...
