Reviews of Mariners Restaurant
A. S.
Great food, hospitality and ambiance.
Nice and warm and happy atmosphere. Went here for late mother's Day celebration. Views over marina good. Aesthetics great. Staff approachable and well humoured. Soundtrack and system in good taste and contemporary.
Been here before, will also come again
T. K.
A group of four of us who were sailing got a late (9pm) booking on a Saturday. The food was excellent and there was plenty of choice on the à la carte menu. A great wine list too. It was busy but the waiting staff were attentive and very friendly. The setting was great and everything was ‘ship shape’! At around £50 per head, including wine and drinks, it was really good value too.

A totally pleasant dining experience. The service was friendly and without fault, the food was well presented, well cooked and very tasty. My only criticism concerns my table. The deck of the boat curves (as many decks do) so my table at the edge of the deck was sloping very noticeably to one side. Something a couple of blocks would sort out easily.

Three of us ate an early dinner here on a weekday evening. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The food was simply fabulous with a wonderful attention to detail, delicious flavour combinations and skillful execution. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our visit; heartily recommended!

Nice place. They've converted the interior of the shipminto the restaurant but it's done in a nice way.
The food is of a decent standard without being ridiculous in price. Try the scallops and the pork, beautifully cooked!

Lovely restaurant on an old boat. Decor is nice and the deck is lovely to sit on when sunny. The set menu is very good value for money. I had seafood skewer which was delicious and my partner steak which was HUGE but a little cold unfortunately. The waiters and chef provided the most excellent service though and insisted it was absolutely no trouble to swap it. Food is fresh great quality and tastes delicious. Drinks were good too and reasonably priced. The starters are excellent value at only £3!!!!! Eat here.

I really want to give 5 stars as this restaurant should easily get 5 however just a couple of things. I did as requested and booked a table and they stated that they were full at the time i had asked. I was happy to move time so i we were there at half 6. No problem. The restaurant was empty and the table that was provided was directly under the bar.... When i say under the bar i mean UNDER the bar. I'm extremely easy going and i though live with it. So i now know all that the staff are doing in the next few weeks coming up. I mean come on...There is people eating !!! I paid a good amount for the meal and i wanted to really love it. That was not one thing. LOOK around staff and just think. The scallops for starters were not 100% fresh. Now scallops are very light in flavour when fresh these were extremely strong. This I'm hoping was the fish supplier, not the restaurant. Well the chef would of tell. The main course was outstanding like the service. Everything was lovely. The location was beautiful and the staff tried very hard but I'm afraid if you are asking good prices then i expect a lot more. Its such a shame as this experience should of been out of this world. I will try again maybe. See how i feel as well as the future reviews.

Mother took us to the Mariners for my Birthday. It was a lovely day. We were looked after by the well trained obliging hard working staff. The food and the service was exceptional..prices were responsible for both the three and two courses. We opted for two. Amazing food cooked to a high standard. Highly recommended and wouldn't hesitate to go again sometime.

Busy place, some interesting dishes. Had the bruschetta followed by seafood platter (hung on a skewer) and a pint colada pud. Nice view over the marina and great service. Parked over the road a short walk away. All in all very good.

A couple of recent visits unfortunately none without fault but it was always a favourite place but now quite disappointed. Booked a table for 6 people previously and always used to love and rave about the chicken satay starter..flavour wise still good as is the aranchini ball but it didn't used to have soooo many whole peanuts in..it's changed but personally for me not for the better. The Fish cake still as good as it was. When our steak arrived it looked amazing and the chips excellent.. but the steak was completely cold. We sent it back.. with an apology.. and that 'new' ones would come back.. understandably other people on the table tucked in whilst we waited. When the 'new' steaks arrived they were actually the same steaks reheated but with new chips. We knew they were the original steaks sent back due to the small pieces we cut off/tried before sending back. Whilst I totally appreciate why they wouldn't cook brand new ones they shouldn't have said they'd cook 'new' ones. To make it worse they gave my steak to other person on our table and their steak to me.. not ideal. That said the returned steaks once swapped and with their original owners did taste great. We all ordered dessert and the chocolate fondant whilst lovely and per the menu would take time took about 45 minutes... others waited for theirs and unfortunately when the fondant arrived they completely forgot to bring one.. which was simply the cognac ice-cream... we had to ask.. it was then brought over. The chicken main dish on offer was excellent .. crispy skin a wing, breast and great flavours.
Kindly the supplements for both steaks were taken off the bill £6 and one dessert which based on the set menu equated to £2. We paid and did leave a tip as eventually what we had was good..
Return trip.. Monk fish in curried batter, scraps and peas.. really very nice.. then came the roast beef.. the worst roast I've ever had.. the beef was supposed to be medium rare..it was light brown/beige. the gravy... No idea what it was... gloopy and pink and no flavour whatsoever.. soft and chewy roast potatoes, the Yorkshire pudding whilst very dry had a great taste.. as did the whole carrot, the green beans were squeaky on the teeth and the cabbage watery.. the addition of salt and pepper and horseradish sauce didn't really help it in anyway shape or form..I did eat the beef Yorkshire carrot and 2 potatoes... but honestly have to say I didn't enjoy it at all.. my husband had the satay as a main and did like it, but the addition of extra peanuts doesn't bother him..
We did go for dessert.. my husband had the coconut aranchini which we had previously and enjoyed both times. Mango flavours and pineapple.
I had the pistachio Paris Brest. The pistachio ice cream on the plate was really very good the choux bun crispy and cream raspberries nice.
When the bill arrived the bottle of wine was missing.. we are honest people and advised the waitress who was thankful for our honesty as well as mentioning the disappointment of the main.. the revised bill including the wine was returned and we settled for £93..
The let down for me both times was the Main as the name suggests its the 'main event' of a meal.. flavour and cooking wise for the roast.. and the incorrect temperature of the steak along with mixing up and giving meals already part eaten to different people.
Reviews are subjective and dependent on what you chose.. my husband would rate both visits as a 4 whereas my experience is a 2 hence the 3 rating..

Absolutely incredible never tasted food like the fondant biscoff centre nicest thing I’ve ever eaten if I could give this place 10 stars I would definitely recommend. The price as well I’ve spent more on absolute trash at KFC unreal anyway never mind for the price believably good.
D. J.
Part of the water front development, this barge based restaurant might have issues with disabled clients, but it was a very well developed facility. Food was excellent, although robust pricing for some items.
Wine list was extensive and colleagues thought it good quality. I stuck with low alcohol beer from the local brewery and I was content.
Service was attentive without being oppressive, one request for a refill required a reminder, but that is a minor quibble.
h.
Good location and food. We sat outside in the warm weather which was lovely...inside has a nice ambience too. Had the jackfruit starter and the mixed seafood for main which was enjoyable. Only thing stopping me from giving 5 stars was the staff were not attentive and we struggled to call them over throughout the meal. Though they were very pleasant and helpful when they did come to the table.
V. C.
Lovely food great service nice experience having a meal on a boat
d. r.
Unique experience to dine on this old boat which has been converted to a fine dining restaurant quay side in the historic Ipwhich docks precinct. Food was superb.

Our first visit to Mariners left us very impressed. The vessel was well presented with the staff being pleasantly helpful and efficient. My starter of salmon treated with Calvados, capers was interestingly pleasant. The main course, Fish Skewer, was a triumph of presentation and taste. Sadly none of our group had room for a dessert, which gives me the perfect excuse of willingly returning another day to try that part of the menu too. Recommend Mariners, well worth a visit.
P. L.
We arrived at around 8pm on a Friday, but were accommodated outside due to a fully booked dinner service and after some bread and wine, were served a delicious 3 course set menu.
Food was tasty, staff are some of friendliest and accommodating I’ve met and the waterfront setting is amazing.
My first visit, but I will be back!
P. I.
A very nice restaurant. The staff couldn't be more helpful. They all made a point of rotating through the tables and made sure everyone was well looked after. The food was lovely.
K. D.
Lovely food, beautiful atmosphere and friendly staff.
T. H.
The crab & prawn taco is something else, if I never had anything else to eat again after having the taco I wouldn't mind.
J. G.
Great ambience eating on an old gunboat. Food very good. Not rushed by the staff - service a tad laid back. Let down by (lack of) knowledge of waitress : asked for description of Adnams Ghost Ship and was told it was a dark beer, a bitter. Pressed she said it wasn't a lager but a dark bitter. Today I checked, and Ghost Ship is a Pale Ale which I would have ordered and would have been so much better than what I actually drank. Why not also offer Shipyard IPA, at least the waitress wouldn't need to be trained in the difference between IPA, Bitter, Ale and Lager ?
S. F.
Great food, service excellent.
S. M.
Good ambiance, great food!
M. A.
Food was absolutely delicious, lovely atmosphere and staff were really friendly. Would definitely recommend and come here again!
J.
Brilliant. Dropped in without reservation. 3 course set meal for £23. Excellent experience
A. P.
The service, meals and staff were all excellent. We were a large group and we were looked after really well. Highly recommend a visit
G. B.
Absolutely amazing ! Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was fabulously presented but tasted even better than it looked if that’s at all possible !!! The sunset view just added to a fabulous meal !!!
K. B.
Second time visiting this evening. Service is quick and food was delicious once again can't fault anything at all. I'd recommend the sirloin steak or the sea bass. Will be returning 100% 😀😎
B. S.
Superb Mother's Day lunch menu. Can't fault the restaurant.
f.
Great destination for on the water dining on Ipswich. The Beef Wellington and Beef Brisket mains were perfectly cooked and delicious. The wine prices were easy on the wallet as well, along with a full bar menu. Compliments to the chef and great waitstaff.
R. S.
Had a fantastic 3 course set meal, all six of us had different meals and all had excellent quality, great tasting food served brilliantly by friendly and efficient staff…..well done Mariners team 👍
R. D.
Amazing day out and lunch!
We try different restaurants but this one was unique!!!
Never forget the look and the taste🥰🥰🥰
P. F.
Oddly interesting, or interestingly odd menu. A weird mish-mash of different styles and flavours which seems to work. For example, chicken satay with a naan bread and an arancini ball. Sounds odd, is odd, tastes great. Super staff and super location and ambiance.
K. C.
Went here for work Christmas meal and the food was excellent. If you're upstairs, the stairs are a bit steep and the queue for the toilets can get a bit cosy, there is a slight lean to everything but it's part of the charm. Well worth a visit.

I had dinner with the girls last weekend. The boat itself is stunning as is the decor and ambiance. The service was exceptional. I was let down by the food though. My haddock fishcake was quite nice but no better than the ones I buy from lidl. I had the lamb for main. The meat itself was delicious and cooked to perfection. The dauphinois was dry and completely overpowered with garlic. I couldn't taste the potato or the cream. I would have preferred actual mint sauce or jelly rather than the pea mousse which tasted like mushy peas. The bakewell tart had very over baked pastry. The food didn't match up to the price. Also it was freezing in the boat. Some heating would have been ideal.
A. H.
Stunning food at great value. 3 courses for only £24. The quality of the food was world class. The service was amazing. The place has a lovely view over the docks.
D. K.
Excellent Sunday lunch, good value and variety on all courses. Pleasant staff and service.
T. B.
Ok so bad points first ... We booked 3 weeks in advanced . When we arrived there was no confirmation of our booking so we had a bit of a make shift table next to the bar .... Music in this restaurant is all over the show one moment it was Robbie Williams rock DJ too some type of Spanish salsa dance .... But apart from this the food was absolutely exceptional by far some of the best food I have tasted .. presentation was brilliant and the staff was friendly and helpful with food and wine recommendation ....Set along side the waterfront and within a boat which gives this place it's piece of character would definitely visit again ..
T. T.
Restaurant set on a boat and not a great deal more to say. The food was quite nice but the portions were pretentious to the point of the rabbit dish came with what I can only assume was one spoonful of mash (see pics). The quay was very very still like a mill pond and this only seemed to stop all the rubbish being washed away from around the quayside of the boat and jetty. The boat itself need a damn good scrub on the outside however the inside was quite clean. Staff were friendly and on the ball but I don't think I'll be back anytime soon.

6 of us dined here on 2.4.19 for my Mum's 65th Birthday. She flew over from Spain especially for this occasion so wanted to make it memorable. With her younger years of working on cruise ships I thought that the Mariners would be the perfect setting. And it was.... Excelled itself in everyway possible. Service 1st class, Staff 1st class, Fine Dining , Food absolutely beautiful, Affordable..I'm amazed how cheap it was. Well cooked, Well presented. Caters for parties, top and bottom deck available. Personally met the chef afterwards and thanked him for our meal. Looking forward to Date Night now with my Man 12.2.19

Visited mid week in Feb, pleasantly busy, friendly and knowledgeable staff who were able to recommend wine to match the food & an excellent whisky at the end of the meal for my husband. Food was delicious and the flavours especially the salad with the seared tuna were amazing. Excellent food for a fair price, highly recommended.
J. J.
Amazing place. The staff were on point knew the menu and very good at helping out on the wine. Good serve times and the food was amazing ! Highly recommend and not to expensive.
D. M.
Fabulous food and a great place. We were extremely impressed with our meal and will remember it for a long time. It was delicious. The boat has a lovely interior too
P. W.
Knew this place under previous guise of il punto. Was very good then, if a bit stuffy. Now actually better: wonderful food, good wine, relaxed, friendly, and efficient staff. More easy going vibe now - no need to speak in hushed tones.
T. L.
Great ambiance, views and service.
Thoroughly recommend.
Staff are cohesive and well trained in service.
Food and drinks excellent
J. W.
Delicious food, a great view and lovely staff. It was a perfect location for our anniversary meal, we will be back!
S. F.
Lovely view and yummy food. Cant ask for more. The service was great too!
A. C.
Lovely, unique restaurant with fabulous food.
A. R.
Lovely food and great service.
O. D.
Absolutely amazing! Came here today for lunch and got the set menu. 2 courses for £14.95 and had the Camembert to start and steak for main! Highly recommend!! Really good service, very well looked after and they did everything they could. Also found out that they are starting a Sunday lunch menu so will definitely be coming here again! AMAZING 😉
I. W.
1st class service and food second to none.Went there for my 70th Birthday.A really lovely restuarant.Well done
A. J. P.
Service was excellent! Food even better! I wouldn't know how to describe it, you've got to try it!
T.
The staff was friendly didn't rush us the beef Wellington MOUTH WATERING creme brulee amazing 10/10
A. A.
Staff were very friendly and helpful and the venue itself is very lovely. Unfortunately however though the website states they do a 2 or 3 course meal, they no longer do this. The food was nice and properly seasoned but overpriced. Lamb was very fatty and although I asked for my beef wellington rare it was cold in the middle - unfortunately not worth £24 and £28 respectively. Also the "papaya salad" had tomatoes in it and lacked many of the fundamentals of a som tam. Still had a nice evening but the price of the food left a lot to be desired.
A. L.
Exceptionally great. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Possibly the best cuisine in Ipswich.
J. B.
Could not fault the food or service. The beef Wellington is expensive for a main, but so worth the treat.
Great cosy atmosphere with real log burner fire, perfect for a cold winter night.
Would happily go back.
S. C.
First time at this restaurant but definitely not the last. From the moment we entered with buggy, baby and a dependent freind, we were made to feel welcome. Nothing phased the staff and they were all very helpful ensuring the baby was situated in a safe place. So far so very good. Good coffee. The food was hot, very well presented and delicious. Thank you Juliene. Highly recommended. Can't wait to visit in the evening. I am told its very pretty when "lit up" .
R. R.
Such a beautiful restaurant on the Quay, really unique venue and on our doorstep too. Why have we left it so long to visit? Amazing location, delicious food and attentive staff. Stephanie was our host and brilliant she was too. If you're looking to dine in style and feel totally welcomed, you won't go far wrong with an evening at the Mariners Restaurant. Would recommend. A solid 4 out of 5. Great evening.
L. S.
Good food . Busy place can be noisy. Worth a visit for the experience
s. s.
Lovely food but Pork belly we had was tough. Nice atmosphere but definitely not similar to midsummer common in Cambridge as Google suggested.
N. S.
Wonderful location, great feel in the restaurant and the food was simply stunning. We had 3 courses from a wide and varied menu for only £24, truly delicious with lots of interesting culinary combinations. All topped off by friendly, professional, attentive, service with a smile from Stephanie and all her team. Thank you so much, we simply can't wait to return.
P. W.
The fixed three course lunch menu is excellent value for money..The service is friendly, polite and efficient.
s. h.
Wonderful, intimate evening with fantastic food with complex flavours.
W. Q.
Really lovely food and service. Well done all.
C. S.
Another incredible dish here at The Marina.
W. S. J.
Very pleasant restaurant with great food, friendly staff, however espresso was undrinkable
D. S.
Fantastic food, in a fantastic setting with fantastic staff. Fantastic all round. Highly recommended.
J.
We dined at the Mariners last night for my birthday and I have to say both the food and service were outstanding.
The Menu was varied enough, absolutely delicious and very good value for money.
That aside, the service was exemplary, nothing was too much trouble and it was a breath of fresh air to have such attentive waiting staff.
The owner Karine, was extremely charismatic and made the whole experience one that we will definitely be repeating.
S. H.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Entire group loved their meals (pork belly, lamb, sea bass, etc)
M. P.
Really amazing restaurant. Really enjoyed the food, great ambience. Snails are definintly worth the try and the beef Wellington was top class. Would absolutly recommend to anyone.
J. C.
Very nice meal. Excellent customer service. Good value for money
J. B.
OMD...Absolutely superb dining...food was exquisite, service was impeccable...what can I say....will definitely come here again 👌 I had the swordfish and my fiance had the duck, we both had cheescake for dessert....amazing 🍴
C. J.
Birthday dinner on the boat.
Lovely view, good food.
H. M.
Would have given 5*s but had to send the Lamb Cannon back as it was tough. Otherwise excellent.
P. C.
Lovely meal, very attentive staff. Good menu. View from the boat.
M. S.
Everything was delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive. Recommend this place
J. M.
The location and ambience are fantastic and the food is excellent and (with the set menus) good value. I particularly enjoyed the fishcakes and the cod. Service is efficient and unobtrusive. It does get a bit noisy if there is a large group on the centre table. This, and a mishap with my first course (quickly rectified with apologies), were the only missteps in an otherwise perfect lunch.
N. F.
The service in this place was amazing. The food exceptional. We waited three years to get in here due to being so good it was booked well in advance. Really pleased we managed to get in for wife's 50th birthday. Thank you.
T. C.
What a treat, we went to the Mariner for my partners 50th birthday, the staff were friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere was lovely and the food was excellent. They even put a birthday candle in his Creme Brulee. Thank you.
G. S.
Very high quality food and a great armosphere, one of the top places to eat in Ipswich!
C. “. B. G.
Booked for 8.45 as only slot they had weeks ago. Had call 7.30 saying come now as had cancellations i explained we just bought drinks somewhere else. 8.45 the waitress came to bar and rushed us to our table. Then it was rush rush rush. 2 of our group didn t want dessert but were met by waitress rudely saying you gotta still pay for them which we knew anyway and weren t bothered. In my opinion that didn t need to be said in that abrupt way. Gave us bill before finished dessert as wanted us out. Food was good. Staff were lacking this visit. Shame as left a bitter sweet feeling this time.
D. W. F.
The only restaurants worth going to are those who serve food you would not be likely to replicate at home. For me Mariners is in that category. The mixed seafood platter looked spectacular and the taste was equally so.
Good service and friendly lively staff was a good bonus.
J. C.
Sat down at 12 30 for Sunday lunch, got up at 4 30 and we couldn't believe where the time had gone. Unhurried brilliant service combined with really delicious food. A great wine list to! Just wonderful. A first vist for all four of us but won't be the last.
P. C.
Really nice food and very reasonably priced
H. K.
Excellent staff and outstanding food
C. F.
Fabulous restuarant, fabulous food ,fabulous service and great location.
Highly recommended .

After living in France for 10 years I think I know a bit about French restaurants! Mariners is more than good, it is excellent. Ambience is great too. I love the place.
L. K.
Lovely setting, food was really tasty. Service was great. Couldn't fault.
m. w.
The food here is exceptionally good, well worth a visit. We have been twice recently and both times it was excellent
R. B.
The food, staff and establishment were outstanding. Would highly recommend to restaurant to anyone. Food and wine is of exceptional quality. I will certainly be going back in the near future.
S. R.
Had a fantastic meal, food so tasty. The staff very helpful and efficient. We had the Xmas menu, the pigeon starter - wo default!
d. h.
Some of the best food I have had in a long time and fab service. Definitely recommended.
F. G.
Love this place, meal was excellent, first class service! Our waiter who only there a few weeks was very attentive too. Would highly recommend going.
B. W.
Went here for the Christmas party menu, the food was delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant.
M. S.
Great food. But restricted time of 2hrs on the table.
L. A.
Tasty food and good service.
A. E.
Delicious food, lovely atmosphere, attentive but not intrusive waiting staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The food has a French twist to it but you can still get steak cooked as you like it. We liked it before but now that it is under new management it has become more affordable £25 for 3 courses of quality food is reasonable. We will definitely go back.
m. f.
The owner and staff were excellent hosts and the food was cooked and presented superbly. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
f. w.
Fantastic food, great service they were not over the top but there when you wanted something. Choice on the menu was superb and 3 courses for £21.95 for Sunday lunch was brilliant value for money. Went with 3 friends, we all had 3 courses and devoured the lot, we can't wait to go back.
A. B.
Great cocktails and fine dining. Attentive staff.
P. C.
Very well looked after by lovely front of house and excellent cooking by sous chef Martin.
C. A. M.
Great, classy place. Lovely wait staff, yummy french cooking.
I had the Roasted Carrot Soup and then Portobello Mushrooms for my main, they arrived with a giant pile of guacamole and colorful corn salsa, more than I could eat at one sitting. Eco friendly reusable container for my left overs 🤗
C. M.
Had the set menu lunch on the deck in the sunshine 🌞 - lovely food and lovely setting. We've been to Mariners before and will be going back no doubt. Would recommend the skewers - monkfish, king prawn, salmon, scallop and chargrilled veg - yum!
K. M.
I actually need a 6th star to rate this place. Took my mum here for her Birthday and the food was so amazing. The atmosphere was great and the Birthday plate was a lovely touch. I don't know how they make the food just so amazing. She let me know it was one of the best birthdays she has ever had and for that I will have to thank the help of this amazing restaurant to make that happen. This is my second 5 star review upon visiting. And I will definately visit again!! Thank you!
S. (.
Cheap and cheerful three courses for under £25.
Fishcake stater was average a pureed potato Centre with the minimum of fish. Nice crispy coating and a we poached egg on top, although I was told they msy buy them in, which is a shame, as fish cakes are so easy to make.
Cod main was a bit small but tasted nice, I had an empty third of a plate though and the pea puree was watery.
Desert was French meringue, the meringue were small, rock solid and I suspect prepacked. A good meringue should be crisp outside and soft and sticky inside.
Not the best meal I've had in Ipswich, but by no means the worst either anc ax I know from experience the person working the kitchen can make or break a meal.
G. H.
The food was decent enough without being anything special. Service was good and staff were friendly but what let the evening down was the lack of cleanliness of the place. I realise that running a restaurant on a boat must present certain challenges but surely it's not acceptable to have light fittings full of dead flies and windows covered in guano!
K. A.
Very nice steak and pistachio raspberry dessert is deliv
A. G.
Food was good all the dishes tasty and we'll prepared the staff friendly and helpful when you got them but service a bit hit and miss and slow at times. Overall a nice meal and very relaxing looking out over the marina albeit a bit noisy inside.
L. C.
Excellent meals. Highly recommended.
R. S.
We went for Sunday lunch and had a fabulous meal. Really good set menu with plenty of choice, the presentation was top notch and the combination of flavours prove the chef knows what he is doing. The bill at the end was a very pleasant surprise, 3 courses for £20.95 represents unbelievable value for money.
G. S.
A bit expensive. Nice personnel. Interesting menu.
S. L.
Food was outstanding. I had mussels as a starter and pork belly as a main. Both were of the highest quality. Service was also very good and the atmosphere being that the restaurant is on a boat was really nice. A hidden gem.
S. Y.
A memorable experience. Am 65+ dining alone and was made to feel most comfortable. Interesting menu very fairly priced. Good vegetarian option. So looking forward to returning.
D. H.
First off I just want to say what a welcoming atmosphere, the staff are so friendly and they really care. The restaurant is very pretty and unique! Now for the food, wow, wow, wow! Top class food, absolutely delicious! I will be going again and will become a regular for special occasions. To the staff at the Mariner, thank you for the experience and making the celebration of my other halfs birthday that extra special!
J. B.
Lovely lunch at Mariners. Much better and warmer than when we went a year ago. New management a definite improvement. Would certainly go again. Nice choice of set lunches and wines. Too full for desserts which was a shame! 😁
S. B.
This is the first time I've ever written a review yet I am moved to do so as my lunch on a Saturday recently was a lovely experience. The food was good and the extensive wine list featured some delights which were not overpriced. The cheese board was a joy to behold and should clearly be taken prior to a dessert!! All of the (French) waiting staff could not have been more friendly, welcoming and engaging yet the service was attentive but discrete. The boat setting was very comfortable with quality linen table cloths (always a good sign!) and it helped with the warm late autumnal sun streaming in the port holes! The atmosphere was good with quite a number of other diners obviously enjoying themselves too. The only downside... I live in Aberdeen in the North East of Scotland which means I wont be able to visit very often but if I ever find myself in the region again then I will most certainly return. Do yourself a favour and visit...
S. H.
Amazing! Great food great service. A lovely place to spend the evening. Cant wait to go again.

Starter and main course we're ok at best but the dessert of chocolate fondant was first class. The service was first class.
A. L.
I honestly couldn't recommend this place enough. Came for an evening meal w. other half and it was absolutely delicious. Possibly the nicest food I have ever eaten, definitely the nicest food I have eaten in Ipswich. We had sweet potato and coconut soup, the venison, the seabass, a sticky toffee pudding and a brownie and it was all unfathomably delicious. There was a very warm welcome, polite and friendly staff, great atmosphere, great music playing. The interior is beautiful and there's obviously the novelty of being on a boat. There are nice views out of the windows however this can be obscured depending on where you're sat. Would recommend coming here for a special meal like a birthday or anniversary or the like or just a nice meal out once in a while. Did I mention the food was amazing? ... If you haven't been you're missing out.

An absolute wonderful experience!
I arrange a surprise meal for my fathers 60th and nothing was too much trouble.
Marina made the whole experience 5* for my family, the food was superbly brilliant and the waitress was very professional.
Would definitely recommend this to everyone.
J. G.
Great location on a boat moored to the waterfront. Attractive inside and great service; food was good and both my son and I found the servings too large!
D. C.
Had a great Xmas do here with work. Went the extra mile to provide an excellent 3 course vegan meal. The soup starter was amazing, I didn't want it to end. Staff very friendly and a great atmosphere.
R. W.
We celebrated my mum's 80th birthday here and had a lovely set 3 course lunch. Food was very tasty and service was great. Highly recommend.
C. R. N.
Very good food and excellent service. They have got specialised staff for wine (sommelier), food, etc. The style is French cuisine but they keep changing the menu every couple of months to adapt it to seasonal fresh produce. The atmosphere is very good inside the boat too. However, it moves a bit if it's windy or the waters are not still. Quite expensive, especially the wine if you choose a good one (the wine menu is extensive). But very recommendable for big occasions.
S. F.
The restaurant is on a boat, it is local to us and it's our favourite for an occasional meal. When the weather is good, it's nice to sit at the top deck to enjoy the view and breath.
It severs well cooked French foods and beautiful cheeses. The staff are friendly, professional and attentive
P. V.
Just called in to find a very warm welcome, we had not booked. Staff very professional and the service excellent. Food excellent. Would definitely recommend.
J. M.
Food is absolutely gorgeous - everything from starter through main to desert is worth to try.
Wine, especially the one from Italy - one of the best. Five stars - I would give six if I could.
C. G.
Had a great night at Mariners for my work's Christmas dinner. The food was lovely, not too fussy, but still impressive. Great wine & drinks selection (which we all enjoyed!) and the staff were really accomodating.
S. P.
A really excellent experience all round. Great food from a menu that included fascinating choices, very good service and an incredibly atmospheric setting.
G. B.
Fantastic little restaurant located on the marina offering a range of lunch and early evening meals in a modern and elegant style. The food is well presented and good quality, however prices are towards the upper end of pricing levels for Ipswich restaurants. But, that said, the meals are well worth the money and are complemented by professional and pleasant service from the staff. The light bites haggis, neaps and tatties dish is particularly delightful. Recommend to book a table in advance for early evening meals, but worth chancing it for an early or late lunch.
T. F.
Great night out attentive staff, food very good.. Will return,
J. H.
Lovely way to spend time eating on a boat beautiful place very clean good food & friendly staff
S. A.
Great restaurant, good friendly and professional service. Lovely view on sunny day of the harbour. Could do with a bit more fish on the menu. Would recommend for a visit.
T. B. j.
The Mariners is on a permanently moored boat, in the wonderful Waterfront area of Ipswich. It is stylish and beautiful inside. The cuisine is French, and the food is sublime. Really gorgeous. The owner and staff are friendly and exceptionally good at their job 😁.
R. N.
We enjoyed a wonderful meal on a beautiful old boat. The staff went out of their way to work around my difficult dietary requirements. Wonderful ambience, great service and great food and a good price. Thank you!
C. S.
Ate here today for our 25th Wedding Anniversary with our children and it was outstanding from start to finish. I had the dressed crab, the Sunday roast beef and then the lemon cake, chocolate mousse and apricot, highly recommend all of those dishes.
S.
Fun to sit upstairs on a busier night. Good wine list. Usual negotiations over lactose avoidance, which they seem to have missed the early warning about and failed to offer choice suitable dessert, claiming falsely they hadn't been warned.
1.
i have now been here twice within the week and have to say the food was excellent and the service was first class once again
M. E.
Really nice food and good service. Partner said it was the best crème brulé she'd ever had!
Does get quite warm though, so try and get a window seat.
S. C.
We had a celebration there on Saturday night for 19 people. The food was excellent as was the service. A really lovely atmosphere. Staff are very friendly. Couldn't wish for more.
B. R. B.
Superb food, really delicious, staff attentive and relaxing atmosphere. Will be telling all my friends about my great experience at the Mariners!
J. B.
Just visited for an evening meal to celebrate your 20th wedding anniversary. The food was first class absolutely lovely, staff very friendly and professional. Well worth the visit, would love to visit more often but we live in hertfordshire
M. Y.
Perfect atmosphere, staff were attentive but not overly, Beff Welli gton was one of the best I have had, and my Wifes Seafood Skewer was just out of this world. Perfect for a date night, a celebration or just if you fancy high quality food in an amazing atmosphere. And not forgetting reasonably priced.
C. K.
Excellent quality french cuisine.
Extensive & comprehensive wine list.
This restaurant is afloat, moored on the waterfront in the centre of the tourist attractions of the Ipswich wet dock marina.
Yesterday my party enjoyed a 3 course a la carte meal, 2 bottles of wine & coffee for an average of £50.00 per head.
Very attentive staff.
S. G.
Food and the decor was absolutely enchanting. The owner and also head chef served for years at the Waterfront Restaurant in Ipswich, now with his own venture has made a fantastic 1st impact.
The presentation, servings and menu - all superb.
The duck is out of this world.
S. H.
Can’t recommend this Resturant enough! The staff are the best and the food is simply incredible. By far the best Resturant in Ipswich and one of the best I’ve been to in the world.
They will also completely remake any dish to suit gluten free requirements
T. B.
There is a world of difference between food that is cooked and food that is cooked very well. Mariners certainly delivered on the latter. Producing a small number of dishes to an extremely high standard. The pigeon was excellent, as was the steak. Not the cheapest on the quay but certainly somewhere we will go back to for a special occasion.
A. B.
Food was best fish I had in a very long time. But service was slow an inattentive. If you are being served by the manager (who was amazing) it'll be one of your best meals within a 50 mile radius.
G. D.
Great food, great table service. Phoned to tell them we were going to be a little late and they were a little Rude and started telling us about a table for 17 they have reserved for another group
V. A.
Fabulous food, great service
K. M.
Excellent food, lovely atmosphere especially for a midweek evening. The duck was superb.
T. H.
By far the best restaurant in town. Excellent service, staff is always helpful and friendly, food is delicious and it’s just a lovely location!
z. a.
Wonderful evening in charming atmosphere. Big shout out to the chef for accomodating for specific dietary needs - food was amazing! Highly recommended if you're in Ipswich.
J. C.
Amazing Venue and freindly staff. Well Worth a Visit
T. M.
A lovely way to start the festive celebrations. Attended mariners for our annual girls xmas meal, if i can start with the menu spoilt for choices for a xmas menu, atmosphere and staff were lovely and the food was exceptional must give a mention to the portion sizes more than friendly very full and had a lovely meal. Thank you team mariners got me in the xmas spirit already. We will be back
S. G.
Had a lovely evening here. The food was very good quality and the staff very attentive.
I can recommend the baked seabass which was absolutely delicious. My partner went for the Mediterranean Tian and I couldn't resist sampling a bit myself. It was also delicious and not something I'd had before but being mainly aubergine would maybe not suit all tastes.
The restaurant is actually situated on a renovated late 19th century gun boat moored in the dock which really added to the atmosphere but with no worries about seasickness!
All in all a lovely evening.
K. P.
Lovely place, very cosy and very attentive and helpful staff. Was able to split the bill into drinks and food which was handy. Food itself was delicious and well presented. (We had a Christmas meal.)
S.
Welcoming staff, interesting menu fairly priced , great food , and efficient service.. What more could one want --other than to return. Am + 65 and a singleton and felt very comfortable.
J. F.
Popped in for late lunch at 1.30 today on a cold, rainy, windy day. Boats all swaying in disturbed marina waves and as soon as we dragged our sopping selves in felt at home with the warmth. We have been here before on an evening but never at lunch in winter/spring. Food is as usual excellent and in my opinion, the best in Ipswich. Other places have spicy foods or faffy concoctions but Mariners focuses on excellent French food and superb wines. The food speaks for itself and every item on our plates had a different taste. Won't say what we ate as you need to go there yourselves and try it. Suffice to say we will return.
B. O.
Don't let the councils attempt to force the boat away put you off!
Once you are on board the atmosphere and food is top notch. Excellent service.
Definitely recommend!
B. P.
Gorgeous wine , scrumptious food . Always a good reason to go .
