Reviews of The Shipwreck
P. B.
We had a really good fish and chips, we were seating outside. We ordered a good and tasty craft beer on the tap and a ginger beer. Our friends had two sandwiches (Brown bread and White bread) and it was good as well.
Cider, beer, Juice, Coffee, tea,...
We had a lunch there but also make breakfast.
Such a nice view on the river and on the boat, sailers and the big containers ship.
L. K.
Very impressed with this pub for an impromptu lunch ! Big portions, tasty too 😋 sandwiches and hot food for lunch - also coffees etc. Staff very friendly and sat outside with plenty of seating overlooking the harbour - great to watch the world go by and good dog walking. Free parking right outside.
M. B.
Great setting for tea and cake : also offering breakfast and pub meals seating inside and outside with great views
M. H.
Really good food and the service was outstanding very friendly staff. Well done guys
R. S.
Took Harwich Ferry across to Shotley Marina and this is the marinas' Bar Restaurant and rooms. As it was early we had coffee outside but the premises are large and very clean and tidy.
M. W.
Had a lovely hot chocolate with all the trimmings and relaxed on a comfortable sofa.
Never had a meal, so only 4 stars.
Excellent, kind staff.
S. B.
Food is delicious, and reasonably priced. Menu is currently restricted to certain items, but we still have had a massive burger meal and beautifully cooked salmon. Great spot to have a relaxing walk after your meal accompanied by calming views of Shotley. Parking is not an issue either.
j. t.
first time here yesterday and already returning the week after next ........popped in to ask to see the menu and have a coffee all very friendly then decided to come back for a meal tuna was fab and the smoked mackerel salad just as good a lovely place with lovely surroundings
K. S.
Right by the marina and a great base to have a walk from or to. Breakfasts and bacon sarnies always go down well. Followed by a good pint after a walk. Ideal!
s. b.
Felt safe plenty of space between tables. Clean toilets. Staff very friendly. Very filling hunter's chicken!
R. S.
All working colleagues i saw worked very well with each other . Very polite and professional service all the time of our visit the drink and food and menu were great as was the weather and the atmosphere with all people present
F. T.
Always a good experience at The Shipwreck, whether it's coffee and cake or a meal. Lots of free parking and great views across the river.
E. W.
Had a warm welcome, hosts were very friendly, the room was gorgeous with a lovely view, the bed was very comfortable, the food was great, and a great start to my 50th birthday celebration.
S. R.
Good bar staff very helpful good selection of beers great outside seating and views +++++!
S. W.
Good solid pub food with views over to Harwich and Felixstowe. Nice pint of ghost ship too. Big windows inside to take in the views, of an evening, plenty of outside seating for when it's warm
A. F.
Popped in for lunch & it was fabulous. The staff are really friendly and attentive. They were also working hard to keep everything clean and sanitised. I had the bacon & brie sandwich, which was delicious. It's always a delight when something quite simple is done so well. A delight all around.
P. O.
Went for a ride out on m/cycle, sat and had a coffee, lovely weather, nice view.
A. P.
Prices are very reasonable. The Shipwreck is friendly, clean and the food is moreish. Service is good with very little waiting for orders to arrive. We'll worth a visit.
T. D.
I visited the shipwreck on a cool wet Friday. The pub was unsurprisingly very quiet. There were covered areas for use outside. Inside they were hand gels. As they went no other customers, our orders were taken quicky. Drinks with glide almost immediately. My friend and I ordered fish and chips which was delivered in under 10 minutes. The vittles where are very good, the prices where a little hi, but not unreasonable. I'll be happy to return in the future.
R. D.
The cod and chips qere great and the staff very helpful However the food stops at 7 pm a.nd the place closes at 8 pm very disappointing
s. f. a.
Excellent food ( got to try the fish and chips). Great veiws and a lovely place to visit.
J. H.
We had very nice lunchtime sandwiches and coffee sat in the sunshine. The sandwiches were freshly made accompanied by a side salad and were really good. We selected coffee in preference to traditional bar drinks and these were also enjoyable. The staff were pleasant and friendly which made the whole experience most enjoyable. Will definitely be returning in the future!

Tasty food ..we always have an enjoyable meal at The Shipwreck. Good choices on the menu and reasonably priced. Service very prompt. Sit indoors or outside on the terrace or the grass area. Recommend a visit. Lovely walk through the Marina and on the river wall with views of Felixstowe Container Port which is fascinating to watch. A great place to visit all round.
P. H.
Great place to stop and have a drink, friendly staff and would definitely recommend
C. S.
Fish and chips is the best here but don't be afraid to try some of the other dishes; the salmon is good too.
A. L.
Had a very nice place to sit and have a drink on their lawn while waiting for the foot ferry.
R. E.
Always helpful, and kind. Good food and service.
D.
It is a nice little spot, with plenty of parking and having visited during the easing of lockdown, loads of outdoor seating. The food and drink were nice and I cannot complain about that. My only gripe is, you had to line up to enter to then be able to see the menu. Why could they not put the menu in the window, you can then view, all decide what you want and then line up to order. Just a little thing, but it felt a little silly.
H. S.
Wonderful place to visit and stay, great food and atmosphere.
N. F.
Very good service and the food was beautifully presented
C. C.
Great place to eat and had sandwiches for lunch very good
S. S.
A great place with good views! Although there was a bit of a queue to order food i was suprised how fast the food actually came out! I wouldnt call it fancy but its good pub grub! Dont expect a sunday roast though which i found dissapointing apart from that the staff were friendly and even had a laugh and a joke with us.
C. H.
This place is a real gem the staff are lovely and friendly the food is delicious and the chips are amazing
Lovely views over the water the docks lit up at night are a site to behold and there is loads of parking and lovely walks
We stayed one night and the room was immaculate rainfall shower views over the sea to Harwich lovely fluffy towels and a big comfy bed
We even had a small fridge with milk OJ yogurts there were 2 boxes of cereals biscuits muffins to keep you going and of course tea coffee and hot chocolate
We will return again as it really is a lovely spot and would highly recommend
E. L.
Really lovely food. Best fish and chips and wonderful Vegetarian Lasagna
d. s.
Lovely meal ,great service and friendly staff.
I. F.
Lovely bar, restaurant right on the mariner. Good choice of beers and great food. Massive portions so careful with the sides you order. Food is very nice and decent prices to. Good views of the freight docks and cranes over the water. Very popular locally so guaranteed to be good.
P. W.
Only popped in for coffee but seemed a very acceptable marina pub restaurant.
N. C.
Absolutely lovely venue the landlord was friendly and accommodating. I will be returning and highly recommend to anyone to pay a visit.
m. c.
Very nice service Very quick food
M. B.
Not a bad place at all. Food was good and the beer garden has the most lovely views we got there by ferry from felixstowe on the ferry which is a delightful way to get to any pub, it also means everyone can have a beer. Lovely walk up past the marina and loads more options of more adventurous walks if that's your thing.
E. T.
Went in today looking for a non alcoholic beer to enjoy in the sunshine. The people were extremely helpful and offered their advice. Ended up choosing a Ghostship 0.5% and it tastes exactly the same as the full alcohol one just as the man said it would. I was very impressed with the service I received and will definitely be visiting again soon.
G. B.
Excellent views of the Orwell river and felixstowe docks. Lots of parking and very friendly staff. The food was adequate but nothing special and it was a bit pricey. There is a nice outdoor seating area which is very enjoyable on a sunny day.
T. S.
Excellent Stay. All Staff very kind and Friendly nothing was too much for them. Accommodation is first Class a very comfortable stay could not have asked for Better. Regards Tony.
K. T.
Ambience was a bit iffy. Good simple food served promptly
R. S.
Been going there for a few years, nice location, friendly staff, worth a visit
P. J.
A bit soulless downstairs and in the bar area. Frustrated that couldn't add breakfast on once we arrived as they were apparently short staffed. But when we left the breakfast room was empty. The rooms were very nice though with good views out to sea.
L. L.
Myself & my wife visited here for lunch.
It was a warm sunny day and we sat outside to eat, which was comfortable.
We both had the Scampi with chips and I ordered a side dish of onion rings.
It was very, very good. Although there weren't many chips on the plate, they were to die for...
Also, the onion rings were pretty much perfect, they were large & in crispy batter.
I had a beer & my wife had a large Coke, & the bill was a little over £30 so, not bad.
The Shotley Shipwreck is certainly on my list to re-visit.
S. H.
Nice location right in the marina, looks and feel is of a 70s community hall but staff were friendly and the outside seating really nice . Range of beers was ok and they were having a boat boot sale on the lawn, food avaiable though we didn't have lunch , staff friendly and helpful, views are wonderful. Lots of parking and some great river frontage for walkers.
A. T.
I couldn't think of a better place to go whatever the weather. With it only been a short drive from Ipswich the views are spectacular; even if boats aren't your thing.
The food at the restaurant was fresh hot and great value. The chips are out of this world. Had a coffee before leaving which was hot and hit the spot before the drive back home. The staff were friendly and made the visit enjoyable.
Looking forward to visiting again soon and staying the weekend.
A. (.
Great food at a great price, plenty of outside tables great views over the Orwell and the docks. Lovely walks along the river.
H. K.
Very comfortable. Very clean, views over to Harwich & Felixstowe from panoramic viewing balcony of each room. Easy parking and Alex and Janye perfect hosts and genuinly friendly people. Made me feel welcome .Also very helpful with assistance on walks and the local ferry times plus places ti visit. The breakfasts were cooked brilliantly. ..its my third stay and I have every intention of having many more. Thankyou.
F.
Great location, good views, parking, outside tables and covered area, with patio heating. Cozy inside, relaxed bar seating area, with plenty of tables and a nice area behind the bar, with plenty more tables. Good food choices and quality. Would definitely recommend
m. c.
Lovely located restaurant on end of Shotley Gate. Great views over to Felixstowe and Harwich and even a round ferry if you want to visit them from here. Didnt eat and just had drinks.
L. P.
Fabulous views across the river. Very quiet tonight, a bit on the pricey side but food itself looked and tasted ok. Bit cheeky to ask for extra £1.25 to swap mash for chips - especially for frozen chips! After all said, would probably go again just to watch the activity across in Felixstowe!
c. w.
Come across from Bury St Edmunds to grab some fish and chips at 2:30pm and watch the ships go by with the dog. Disappointed to find out they don't serve food after 2.30 which is odd in this day and age. The pub doesn't let dogs inside which is odd in this day and age, so make sure it's a warm day. The place is a little dated inside and you have no choice to sit outside in the shroud of smokers. Saving grace the coffee is pretty good and you get a cracking view of the shipping.
S. W.
Friendly staff, decent pub grub and plenty to see around and about. Most importantly - consistently brilliant chips (and I should know, I keep going back for more!)
J. c.
Great visit, friendly staff, great views of Shotley, nice place to sit outside and relax
S. S.
Nice for quiet drink or meal. Enjoyable gluten free food and good portions for kids. When there is good weather you can eat outside and enjoy the view.
R. S.
Seems like a good, convenient pub. I had an espresso and a piece of white chocolate fudge cake. Both were good.
J. S.
Went there today by a complete chance. Food was outstanding. Two fish and chips and two drinks £26 and the food was first class. Edge taken off by the pushy foreign barmaid cutting me short each time i tried to order by just interrupting like a robot saying "i need table number" i said we will go and get th"i need table number" once again my other half was walking to indicate the number and then before i cou"ineed table number" you get the jist. Bar that was a great find.
H. L.
Lovely food in perfect setting
G. O.
Lovely place for a stroll and to watch the boats. The restaurant has a good view out. As you would expect excellent fish selection. Food served to a high standard.
D. B.
Great location with good views of Felixstowe and Harwich ports. Lots of space inside and out with a largish grass area with plenty of tables. Simply decorated. Just passed by for coffee and ice cream but service was swift and polite.
R. V.
Great views across the harbour.Friendly helpful staff.Good pub grub.Set in Shotley marina , plenty parking spaces.
B. H.
Good food, good outlook. SLOW SLOW SLOW bar service sadly. It was very busy, but various staff seemed to have one speed 🤔
M. H.
Popular (by virtue of nice location and lack of competition?) but overly expensive for menu IMO. Excellent outside seating area and doggies get their own water barrel
A. B.
Cheery landlord and a great fish and chips as we waited for our boat over to Harwich
M. F.
Very friendly and efficient staff. Sandwich and chips and coffee. Nice.
J. R.
Lovely place. The food was a bit pricey and the cost didn't filter down to the actual food but it was ok. The setting was lovely though.
A. S.
Nice lunch with my wife. We both had Tuna bagget's. £7.50 each! We thought this was a little expensive. But it is a lovely spot to take in the Deben/Stour estuary.
G. J.
Beautiful afternoon spent at the Shipwreck with a pint of shandy and a lemon sorbet. The staff were very pleasant.
D. T.
Good food and very friendly people definitely recommend 👌
C. C.
Gorgeous hot chocolate, lovely view of the ships. Sadly no face covering worn by staff serving food.
C. M.
I've been going to this particular pub for many years even when I was a child. The food was very nice and the staff were incredibly helpful. I would recommend going here again and the walk around the marina is lovely.
D. B.
Very friendly and helpful staff and good food at reasonable prices. Sitting at the outside tables in sunny weather gives great views over the ships coming and going at Port of Felixstowe and the yachts in Shotley Marina.
J. B.
Beer and food excellent.
B. N.
Great food, brilliant service, beautiful location. I love it
T. M.
Just had drinks. Lovely place to stop. Friendly atmosphere and staff.
D.
Pleasant pub/restaurant with good outside seating. Views over estuary. Ice food at reasonable prices. Pleasant staff. Can be busy at times.
K. H.
Food was nice enough but quite pricey. We were hungry and didn't check prices before sitting down. Menu is quite limited as well
r. M.
Good service, friendly staff and good food, what more could one want.
E. I.
Good food. Poor service. Disorganised even tho lots of staff.
Party of 14. Surprised that we all had to go up to order coffee rather than at table.
C.
Went here for breakfast, friendly staff. Place is lovely and clean. Outside and inside areas to sit. Food well priced.
S. D.
Nice cake an reasonably priced for food an drink, bar staff bit snotty an rude, staff should learn to serve with a smile an b friendly think they come across like they clearly dont like the general public so need telling they are in the wrong job if this is their attitude towards serving people.. several comments made by fellow public but the manager didnt seem to care!
J. B.
Great place to take friends and family, for meals. Good views and very friendly staff, well worth a visit.
J. M.
Fantastic food 😍 lovely venue🥰

Very friendly staff and good food
J. C.
Friendly staff, good atmosphere, and dog friendly outside!! A great starting and finishing point for those long walks, and nice views out across to Felixstowe and Harwich!

Always a nice stop off if you're put this way, good choice of drink and lovely to sit and watch the boats in Felixstowe and Harwich. Also has rooms to rent which I was unaware of until recently.
P. L.
