Reviews of Kerala Restaurant
J. A.
Visiting friends in Leeds we had a great lunch with them here today. We stuck to the Kerala dishes and they were really tasty. Great friendly service. Clean. Good value for money. We will definitely dine here again.
S. A.
had the kerala fish curry and plain naan. curry was very yummy and flavourful, however it was my first time having salmon in fish curry which was interesting to me. plain naan was quite big for £2!
staff are friendly and nice 👍🏻
i would need to come back and try other dishes for a more well-rounded review!
G. H. U.
I really loved the presentation and taste of the food served especially the staff members being quick on their feet.
A. P.
Food v good but atmosphere a bit weird. Great for a quick bite before a night out or whatever but wouldn't recommend having a nice event here.
M. D.
Food is good, background music is lovely (like 90's bollywood songs). Staff is polite and welcoming.
Just a suggestion, when seeing South Indian food the first thing comes in mind is Idki Sambhar. Pleas add it in the menu
C. M.
Excellent authentic Dosa - a tight menu not trying to cater for all who desire an average Bhuna or Rogan Josh. Dosa was extremely well cooked and filled with beautifully spiced masala aloo. Definitely worth a visit for the food rather than a twinkly/ middle class wanky vibe e.g. Tiffin room.
R. A.
Quirky restaurant as it opens up big once you climb through the stairs to first floor. The decor is interesting for a South Indian restaurant as it had a very Rajasthan vibe. Food was definitely South Indian apart from having the usual selection of very British Indian menu that is available in almost every Indian restaurant in UK. The Prawn biryani was excellent and tasted great with aromas reminding one of Kerala kitchens. The Lentil patties were crunchy and tasty apart from the lentil curry which was cold. I prefer it hot as the patties are hot. The mixed starter fish was interesting but tasted great. The staff were friendly and the service was good. They serve beers and have a bar. It was funny with some English customers ordering food and amending it in various different ways, lol.

Food is amazing. Very authentic Kerala food 🤩 10/10
g. l.
I wanted to have the south indian taste which I found at kerala restaurant. Very happy with the food but the menu is very small and selected. I wish they had more on the menu. Ill be back again soon
J. M.
Food is fresh and absolutely superb. Staff were friendly and accommodating. The only slight hang up I had was not knowing the dishes, the descriptions on the menu are brief. The food was fantastic.
B.
Called last night after a few drinks in town. Not seen or heard about this place before. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. Its so hard to find real Indian food nowadays. Kerala Restaurant should surely be the best in Leeds. We will be recommending this place to everyone. Thanks for a great meal

Our 10 member group had a very yummy food in restaurant. The food made my day of the trip after such long travelling. My kid loved the fish fry and the plating was excellent. All the food items we ordered were spicy, tasty and we finished all. If I have to pick 1 from all our dishes means I will go with fillets fish fry.
M. Y. A.
Food was fine, tried their masala dosa. The stairs before entering the restaurant is a problem for wheelchair users and pushchair users.
E. C.
Staff is very friendly and the food, oh my God! One of the best fish curries and Bombay potatoes I ever had. The whole place feels like home, I will definitely be coming back here!
A. S.
The food is impeccable at the restaurant and the service is quick and hospitality is friendly and welcoming. This food is from southern India/Bharat so very different from the usual tandoori style dishes but exquisite in quality. Represents the depth of this great nation.
B. S.
A wonderful restaurant with great service. Asked for gobi manchurian and although it was off menu, they accomodated. Will definitely be coming back.
a. t.
We were recommended this restaurant by a friend and we were left very impressed. The food was so tasty and delicious. Will definitely be coming back here again. Highly recommend this for South Indian food above other restaurants in the area of the same nature. The dosa was great.
S. K.
I have been searching in the north, since 2017 when I moved to the UK, for the dosa closest to home and I have finally found it in this amazing restaurant!! It was DELICIOUS! I didn't have a chance to click a picture of the food as I devoured it withing minutes and my hands were obviously soiled as there is no other way to get the full experience of the dosa other than eating with your hands!! Definitely recommend this place for all of you looking for authentic south Indian food! Staff are super friendly and service is spot on!!
S. R.
Amazing food (recommend the slow-cooked beef), everyone ordered something different and loved it, friendly staff, good value!
S. L.
Came here on the off chance and I’ll certainly be back! The staff were super welcoming and gave great recommendations on dishes. I went for the lamb pothu roast and a side of Kerala poratta. Absolutely delicious- rich, deep flavour with good heat and a lovely balance of fragrant spices. Washed down with an excellent glass of lassi, which I’m sure was home made. Great value and great taste. My thanks again to the team.
R. W.
Popped in on a lunch time for my sons birthday. Good menu with plenty meat, veggie and vegan options. Great service & advice, couldn't be more helpful and friendly and very flexible given my low carb diet. More importantly the food was excellent. Couldn't be faulted
S. A. A.
Was okay but £7 for a single plain dosa is ridiculous. Food was good, flavour was good but not the price
A. S.
Best Kerala restaurant in Leeds City. Had Kerala Masala Dosa and it gave me the taste of Home :')
S. A. (.
A great place to bring Barry!
A. X.
The food and service was amazing at Kerala, I will definitely be returning.
T. D.
Great curry, best I've had in Leeds. Friendly staff. Will go again.
A. P.
Best South Indian in Leeds. We love this place and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The dosa is our favourite but the curries are also wonderful. Affordable and delicious food. Also love all the vegan options!
N. P.
The restaurant is fantastic. The Peshwari naan and chicken biryani are a must-try.
D. G.
Went here last Saturday with an Indian friend and his family who have recently moved to the UK. The food was fantastic and the staff really friendly. Our Indian friends were also impressed. Highly recommended!
S. G. D.
Interior needs some improvement including toilet. Food was average. Service was good
M. R.
Booked a table via Facebook and came here on a weekday.
Atmosphere was very quiet , I think some background music could've lifted the atmosphere.
We ordered a few thalis, masala dosa starters and a king prawn curry dish.
Chicken 65 full of flavour.
Fish fillet, overcooked and dry
Prawn perratu didn't enjoy. Full of peppercorns. Wasn't to our taste, sorry
Dosa masala, one of the best I've had, crushed soft potato's in a very crispy dosa, which was still crispy after half an hour... Curry very tasty, toasted coconut nice... Wasn't keen on the sambal though.
Chicken and fish thalis went down very well. Enjoyed every part of it, came with a mini dosa which was. A bonus, freshly fried popadoms.
I've never been keen on Indian desserts so that was the only thing all of us didn't eat as it was too sweet
This is my first time at Kerala, although some dishes we ordered we wasn't keen on... It hasn't put us off.
I would come back and I do recommemd.
On this visit 4/5 stars
v. s.
South Indian food that is available here is just average, I had ordered idli , which did not really live up to the expectation. The north Indian food is definitely decent and worth trying!
a. V.
We love this restaurant. Whenever we visit Leeds, we ensure to eat only the KR chefs made food. The ambiance is nice & the varieties on the menu is vast. Anoj, Riyaz & the new manager are stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ You care for your customers. Please continue to serve the best Kerala taste in Leeds!
R. R.
I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. It was recommended by a friend and I have to say his recommendation was too subtle. The flavours of all the dishes we ordered truly reminded me of my childhood trips to India. I haven't had true malayali food like this anywhere outside Kerala in all my years of travelling around the world. I feel that the restaurant could use a makeover with some pictures and artifacts to create a Kerala ambience to go with the authentic Kerala food but the food was so good, the critic in me turned into a little child remembering my folks back in my true home, Kerala. I would particularly recommend the Porotta and Lamb Ularthiyathu. The Kerala chicken curry was fantastic and the Masala Dosa was probably the best I've ever had.
C. Z.
Unsure who is to blame but we ordered 8 dishes at 630pm, by 8pm no food had arrived so I called the restaurant who informed me the food had been ready and waiting for half hour. So I called deliveroo who dispatched someone immediately to collect. The food then arrived 20mins later, it was cold, the food had spilled all over the bag and 4 dishes were missing. The daal that did arrive was nice enough.
R. P.
Delicious South Indian food with good ambiance and music. Staff is really polite and supportive.
B. G.
Plentiful and delicious food for an absolute bargain, very impressed!
We made an impromptu visit to order and collect (for takeout, due to COVID) some food for lunch around 2pm. It was our first time trying Kerala Restaurant, and as we didn't want to hold up any potential queues we looked at the menu online before going in.
The online menu didn't accurately depict what was and wasn't available, which is completely understandable - many places have changed or reduced their offer due to COVID. However, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful in offering us similar replacements from the ingredients they did have, even whipping up things off-menu. The amount of food was truly plentiful, we ordered for 2, albeit frivolously as we were excited to try many of the dishes, and what we got easily lasted us four meals. It was absolutely delicious, the Thali was amazing, as was the Payasam, the Masala Dosa was better than we had even in India and the Sambar really transported us back to Kerala. In terms of value for money, it was an absolute steal - I honestly wish they actually charged us more considering the amount and quality!
We were extremely impressed and will definitely be back, would highly recommend Kerala Restaurant for authentic South Indian flavours.
V. M.
Wonderful place to have Indian food. Great people and great food. I have tried Biriyani, Vada, Malabar parotta, chicken 65, lime juice (felt like being in Kerala) and lassi. All the food was authentic and excellent.
S. R.
Ok south indian food and ambience. Friendly staff and management.
S. A.
Best kerala restaurant around Leeds. Huge variety of kerala cuisines to choose from & side dishes are delicious as well. Overall the dining experience is very pleasant. I highly recommend this restaurant.
A. D.
Amazing meal this evening. Dosa and Thali the most authentic outside of India we have experienced in the UK.
J. S.
Unprepossesing frontage but step upstairs and a lovely place; a friendly family run restaurant with amazing dosa! The thali was excellent , and the kids were happy with their lassis. Thankyou!
s. s.
Good ambiance and Kerala food!!! Have some drinks,,,, best for enjoying some dine outs,,,,
R. H.
I'm giving 4 stars for the food. Great menu, very tasty and plenty of it. Good atmosphere and nice surroundings. But...its let down by the service. If you're not in a rush then don't worry, but as with many Indian restaurants now they concentrate too much on takeaway. There was a constant stream of couriers coming in to pick up takeaway orders and the service to the sit down customers suffered as a result. Shame really.
D. B.
I ate there with a friend a couple of weeks ago. It's got a 4 star hygiene rating posted on the door which is good enough for me. I checked it out on the Food Standards Agency website and it is the correct rating. The entrance downstairs is not much to look at; the restaurant upstairs is ok but could do with a bit of money spending on it. The food was tasty enough and there are plenty of veggie dishes to choose from. The waiter was a young man who was very polite and friendly. We got talking to him and he is from Kerala in South India. He gave us a complimentary Indian pancake which was a nice touch, although we really couldn't eat it all because the other portions were big. Overall quite happy.
U. T.
Nidhin, Prethish, vaishanve were awesome. Food is very delicious. Would definitely recommend!
A. A.
Good food. Perfect place to feel like home for kerala people. Good vibes and best customer service.
L.
Best takeaway we've ever had. The veg thali was so reminiscent of our trip to south india last year - given we haven't been able to travel this year, it was an absolute joy. Couldn't fault a single thing we ordered. Blinding. Thanks guys!
J. H.
An interesting menu, generally well executed though service was slow as only one member of staff was working! However, she was very pleasant and personable - she just had a lot on her plate! We'll definitely return, there's took many nice things on the menu!
L.
We vitisted here for the first time on 22 March and had the Best Indian food we have had for a long time. The Vegan Tali was excellent and there is lots of choice for vegans and vegetarians - even Vegan wine. My partner had chicken 65 and a chicken type curry (can’t remember the exact name of it) and said both were fresh and tasty. Our waiter, who was a young man from Kerala, South India was friendly, welcoming and very informative and helpful explaining the menu. Also, the service was quick and efficient. I have rated this restaurant as 5 stars and would highly recommend it, as it’s better than some of the other well known restaurants in Leeds. We will definitely be returning.
L. E.
Service was excellent as soon as we walked through the door. Lovely atmosphere, quiet but classy. Taken to a seat and given menus. Quite a few veggie options to choose from too. We decided to try the spinach dhal, pilau rice and a sweet naan bread. And oh my days, it was delicious!! All beautifully served and cooked to a high standard, with an affordable price to match. I highly recommend a visit, we will definitely be returning! :)
M. M.
Very impressed. Incredible food, some street style dishes. Proper Indian food, not UK curry. Lamb was so tender it was falling apart. Coconut flavors, plenty of fish on the menu. FANTASTIC....will be back. They did some off menu options for my partner who has recently traveled in India and wanted to recreate some culinary moments.
D. D.
Great food good service, after a long time had something which is really spicy.
I. C.
This is without a shadow of a doubt the best Indian food in Leeds. It is so authentic. The decor and atmosphere are lovely with really helpful and friendly staff. The food is so tasty with really balanced flavours - and very reasonably priced with a great selection of equally reasonably priced wine.
g. r.
Food is really good and loaded with flavour. It has been really good experience with combination of amazing quality food, portions and service. Ambience is very refreshing and relaxed. I highly recommend the “lamb ulartiyathu” and “Kerala chicken curry”. Will definitely try this place again.
C. D.
Lovely food and great service.
b.
Always outstanding food at impressively reasonable prices. The guys running Kerala Restaurant are clearly passionate about their food, making this an authentic South Indian experience. We only eat the vegetarian options, of which there's many. I highly HIGHLY recommend the vegetable thali. You'll be astonished.
L. E.
Loved the Chicken Biryani and also had Chicken Chettinadu with Kal Appam, travelled from Leicester to try this place out.
s. m.
I have been to this restaurant twice. My only problem with this place is that it's nota accessible for people with wheelchairs, buggies etc. The staff however offered to help with my buggy. They are very courteous and the ambiance transports you to local restaurants in India.
We had dosas, lentil curry , aloo saag and pulav. Everything was really delicious and spices appropriately. Look forward to going back to Kerala restaurant.
M. S.
Excellent and authentic kerala style food. Great taste. Good location. Highly recommended.
S. M.
A tranquil setting and very welcoming staff.
The food I had was excellent.
Starter: Meat Samosas & complimentary lamb tikka (Thank you, A)
Main: Lamb Ularthiyathu.
Drink: Bottle of Bombay Bicycle IPA.
(Approx £22)
M. J.
Great experience whilst tasting the authentic South Indian food.
We were a little late and almost every restaurant was closed, but Kerela restaurant welcomed us warm-heartedly, and left us with mouth-watering flavours of South Indian cuisine.
A. M.
One of the best Indian restaurant in Leeds. I have visited most of the Indian restaurants in Leeds. This restaurant provides the best service and gives you personal attention. Fish curry in Kerala restaurant is really authentic. They even serve kerala Red Rice. If somebody visiting Leeds I suggest them to try this restaurant to eat really authentic kerala food
Z. S.
Lovely place, All the dihes we ordered were tasty ..I will visit again
T. M.
Went to this place and the waiter introduced himself(which isnt common among indian reataurants); he suggested us the chefs signature dish the famous lamb ulartiyathu, Kerala chicken curry, cheera chicken and Kerala parotta. Food, presentation, flavour, ingredients and the service was really good.
Will try again.
E. B.
Lovely food with great vegan options (including wine!) and friendly staff!
S. B.
I had the best fish curry of my life in this place! The staff are great, welcoming and helpful. The prices are reasonable - good value for your buck! Thumbs up for the Kerala!
C. B.
I went to Kerala in Leeds based on review both here and on TripAdvisor. My son is vegetarian and I am not, we both fancied something spicy.
It doesn't look much from the outside, but well worth exploring up the stairs. I've eaten South Indian food before, and recommended my son try the Masala Dosa, which they brought as a starter along with Chicken 65 for me. Chicken 65 is a spicy chicken bites kind of dish. Not too hot, but great sticky flavours. The Masala Dosa would have done as a main meal for one if not too hungry.
We asked for advice on mains, For my son they brought Karthikka Thiyel, which is Aubergine and tamarind in a great sauce. I had Chicken Chettinadu, which was quite similar to the veg dish, really nice flavours.
This was way too much food for the two of us, but I didn't mind as we were really wanting to explore the new flavours of South Indian cooking.
m. l.
Very nice Lamb Thali. Authentic. Just like when I visit my mother in law in Kollam.
P. S.
Tasty food at good prices. I go here often for their lunch deal. Rice and curry for just £3.50. Check it out, worth a go! Keep up the good work folks!
A. V. S.
An enjoyable and very flavourful experience. Food is clearly made to order and that means a degree of waiting time, but well worth it! Zingy fresh flavours and kind, interested personal service make this a lovely family restaurant.
C. T.
We had a delicious vegetarian meal here. It was exciting to see things on the menu that we didn't recognise as the usual Indian fare and we weren't disappointed. Ate so much that we could hardly move!
P. M.
Really tasty food. Different, more interesting flavours than your average Indian restaurant. We've been coming back for two or three years. Make sure you order a dosa.
S. R.
Good food and relaxed ambience makes it the best.
G. C.
Great food, catered for all our dietary needs!
e. j.
Top food, nice service.
T. H.
Reasonably priced Keralan restaurant with a kitschy decor in the upper floors of a building on Eastgate. The serve a rang of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes and offer Thali's if you can't make up your mind. Friendly staff but lacking in atmosphere.
A. O.
Relaxed atmosphere friendly helpful staff
d. K.
Very good service, amazing food and lovely ambience.
Y. A.
I ordered a masala dosa and a plain dosa. The masala dosa was great, rolled up and crispy. My complaint it's that the plain dosa was quite uncooked, soggy, and unpleasant to taste. I'm not sure if the plain dosa is always like cooked this way, but my experience was not good at all. I do not recommend ordering the plain dosa.
L. D.
Awesome traditional Asian food! Great service!
M. M.
Nice ambience. Friendly service. Good traditional South Indian food. They do a lunch deal 5.99 which is excellent value for money.
M. B.
Delicious Dosa and Lamb Uthraylia? - something very different from the usual Curry House

Great food, very friendly staff, great venue

Don't miss this place especially during Festive occasions as they serve a traditional Onam Sadhya at a very cheap price. A perfect treat for Expats who stay away from their houses during such occasions.Fantastic Food, and a wonderful and friendly staff. A satisfying job!

What an amazing find, the food and service is just first class, will definitely return on our next visit to Leeds

Great little hidden gem. Interesting menu, glorious mushroom pakora. 10/10, would pretend I'm having a Bradford curry in a Leeds postcode again.
S. K.

Excellent food, very friendly staff. Highly recommend the Kerala paratha - probably the best paratha I've eaten outside of Kerala. Keep up the good work.
M. D.
The food is really tasty on the whole but service rather slow, albeit it was peak times. It's a decent option but could be amazing if it invested more in decor and service levels.
K. S.
Nice south Indian spread. Masala dosa excellent, sambar simply awesome.
Chicken chettinadu was a bit of a let down. But overall a great experience. Recommend!
